Hi all,
I had just got my s5 back from a screen repair by samsung two days ago and when i connected my phone to my computer (with the usb 3.0 cable the phone came with), the computer installed all the drivers and what not but my s5 wouldnt say "USB installer connected"(or something along the lines of that like it usually did). The computer wont show my phone either. This makes it virtually impossible to transfer files between my phone and computer. Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and ive also tried using samsing kies but it tells me that my s5 isnt compatible (even though it should be). Ive tried using a different usb cable and the same thing happens. What should i do?

make sure mtpapplication.apk is installed in system/priv-app... if it is or not some more info would help such as what rom/build your on and if you tried a usb 2.0 cable etc.

Ever since I rooted I can not get my Epic to connect to a computer period. I'm about to give up and just deal with what I got, hopefully someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong. Before anyone decides to be a smart ass I have used the search function literally for days and have tried tons of things recommended with no result. I am the first to admit I'm an idiot when it comes to anything involving computers but I'm pretty determained to learn.
This has to be the phone because I have tried to connect to 2 desktops (1 running Windows 00 and 1 running the most updated Ubuntu), and 3 laptops (Windows xp, Windows Vista and Ubuntu). When I rooted I used the Vista computer and connected fine (can't anymore). I didn't have the space on the C drive to install the Android SDK so I switched to Ubuntu (first time user btw lol). Somehow when I was backing my SD card I lost any access to it or the notification bar. I never got my SD back til I rebooted but I haven't been able to connect to any PC since. When I charge (even in the car) it always tries to stay in mass storage mode. I basically charge in my car with my phone off hoping it will just charge and not mount my sd card to my car or wall lol. Yes I wiped 3 times, partitioned sd, tried several different cables (but my husband used mine and no problems on his Motorola) I'm sure I've done something wrong when I rooted or mounted to Ubuntu.
I also can't use adb. I followed the directions to the t (a few times lol) but when I run any commands it says "no such file or directory" I didn't have adb on the windows pc when I di noobnl's one click so I never ran the (adb shell ect) commands. I now can't do jack. I am now running noobnl's DI18 ROM with modem.bin flashed thru Clockworkmod.
I have tried all the basics you will find wit 2 days of web search.
My goal is DK28 (dream on Erica lol)...Thanks for any help and for anyone sparing me a lashing ;-)

When you plug in on your windows pcs...in Device manager..do you see anything appear? also do you have USB debugging on the phone?
USB debugging on?
Have you tried reinstalling the drivers for the Epic?
Rebooted phone and PC? (Sometimes it helps)
Used Odin?
Something might have been screwed up during one of your downloads, bad file maybe. Try reinstalling your drivers first, use Odin (phone must be in download mode), and see if it recognizes te device. If it does then Odin the stock .tar file and go from there. It'll give you a fresh start.
That's all I can think of right now.

I bet your USB debugging is on since most root's requier it. Even tho it says connect to pc if usb debugging is on it wont connect to my windows 7 box
I would suggest, if you're really having this many issues, just boot into download mode (1 on the keyboard + power button) and odin back to di18.
Just for kicks have you tried Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset? I assume that wiping does the same thing if not more but it's worth it to see if it somehow resets a setting that might be the issue.
What's left - software issue or Hardware issue.
Software:
hmmm...yeah gotta try connecting through Odin which uses downloader mode instead of USB modes...
Can Odin see your phone? Run Odin as admin with antivirus off, and proper samsung drivers installed. Then boot phone holding down 1 key into downloader mode. Connect to computer through USB port on back of computer (i.e. directly to motherboard) - does Odin identify something attached to USB port?
Yes - flash the dk28!
No - with Odin still on, unplug the USB cable, pause, and reconnect it. Still No? Try a different USB port on computer. Also try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers - be sure to reboot the PC. If still No, then try on another computer, and as you did before, try different cables. Still No?? --> hardware problem with phone.
Hardware problem with phone: Look at the usb port in the phone - is there any junk in there that might interefere with the connection?
Yes - clean it out
No: phone perhaps internally damaged:
Solution for hardware damage:
You and husband clean up and go to sprint store.
At store - tech will know phone is rooted, so:
--Tech more likely to like you? You handle it, maybe even blame husband. Husband can silently attend and look sheepish, playing the part of 'me man, me dominate environment, me break fancy tech of wife, me sorry." Try to get free replacement phone while simultaneously promising never to let your husband root the phone again, or even touch it.
--Tech more likely to like husband? He goes alone, cops to the true story of how you rooted it and then was backing stuff up when it suddenly stopped working [truth from men? so sincere!]. Try to get free replacement phone while simultaneously promising not to let you in the house should you even attempt to root again.
P.S. forgot to add you might turn off the PCs firewall while testing, as well.

same here. I tried out the free tethering app the other day and with usb debugging on i coudl never get it to install the proper drivers. Without it on and the 64bit drivers installed Odin worked just fine.
I have seen many Galaxy S devices not connect to a computer because of a faulty USB cable. Had my girlfriends sister switch out 3 Vibrants only to accidentally try and connect it to a laptop with a different USB cable and I've seen two others not connect with the stock Samsung USB cable.
How I fixed the tethering issue
I've had the same problem with my galaxy s - connecting to the PC (Win7 32bit) just doesn't do anything. As a test, I had a friend with the same phone/rom (froyo, rooted) connect - and he was able to! It installed the drivers and it just worked. He disconnected, I connected, and now it's fine.
So, see if you can find someone with the same phone and see if they can connect. Makes no sense to me, but it worked.
I've had my Epic fail to mount before. Interestingly any time I had an issue it was with a Mac - it always mounts on a PC. I'll stop now before I open up a can of worms.
Best advice I have is get a Dropbox account. You can use that guy to move files from a computer to the SD card without having to mount to the computer. Perhaps you can get a factory ROM (with root of course) on your phone that way?
You can get a app from the market called SWIFTP (free) & connect to your sdcard via ftp server. This can be a temporary fix till you get your connection error resolved.
I have 1 USB port on my laptop that the Epic shows up as "unknown device" on. Works on every other port, and everything else works just fine on the same port. The factory USB cable is finicky!
Hey guys, just got my Tab a few days ago, its unlocked and its working great. I want to root, but my PC wont recognize it (running win7) and it says the USB device has malfunctioned... wth? I searched through some threads about the drivers, and ive tried 4 different ones, restarted my PC, AND my Tab, with no luck. No, USB Debugging is not enabled. (not a noob, just, simply not working)
Any ideas? I would appreciate it
I just got my tab 3hours ago. I got it to work.
Here are what i've done
1.go to control panel and see if samsung usb driver is there. If it is, uninstall it.
2.disable usb debugging on the tab
3.connect the tab to the computer.
Thats wht worked for me. Hope it helps. And yes, samsung has really got to work on the usb thing.
Unzip and run the attached file. Delete any old unused USB device and delete any Android, Samsung or other related device then reinstall Samsung drivers.

This helped me: my computer tower has front and back USB ports. Back USB ports are directly embedded in the motherboard, front USB ports are a wire run from the case plugged into the motherboard, but the front USB ports are on a different chip.
When I first tried using the ADB debugger with Android, ADB would not even find my device if I plugged the device into the front USB ports. If I move the cord to the back USB ports, everything works properly. Maybe this is your issue?
Thanks guys, I believe I got it working.
hey guys,
I don't know if this still a problem with people. but I'm on win7 64bit and I can't seem to connect my nexus s, to my computer. I always have to upload from computer to dropbox then download the file from DB on my phone... usb plug doesn't work. I tried the same cable with my wifes Samsung vibrant and it recognizes it, but when i plug in my nexus s the debug icon shows up on my phones status bar for like 1 second and disappears. then window on my compter says "USB Device Not Recognized"
need help please.
What does it say in device manager (in windows)? Maybe the driver is wrong...

do u have a right drivers installed
have a look here and check Google USB Driver
I'm having the same problem. I have tried both my computers and multiple cables but I continue to get the error. When I try to update the drivers or reinstall them Windows says the drivers are up to date. I've tried every USB port on both computers as well.
I even took the phone into a repair place to see if perhaps the USB port on the phone was malfunctioning and they couldn't find anything wrong with it.

Try installing pdanet, I had a similar issue when I rooted my ns and installing the pdanet drivers solved the problem.

I've been having the problem also and none of the fixes worked. Not even PDA net. You'd think that the more people have this problem so one would have found a real fix by now.

I can't get the PDAnet drivers to install - during the installation process, my phone has to plugged in, which of course the installation program can't see.
Weird thing is if I remove the battery and then plug the usb in and start the phone, the drivers show up in the device manager but they always disappear before I can unlock the phone - appears the USB connection on my Nexus S is broken...can;t think of anything else.
I have the AT&T version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 with the latest Kangabean Google Edition rom installed. Most everything works great, except for PC connectivity. The first time the phone was never recognized by Windows at all. The phone saw that it was plugged in, but the computer couldn't see it. I tried uninstalling Kies and all Samsung drivers, rebooting, and reinstalling Kies. This worked a little bit as my computer now sees it, and Kies tries to connect but is stuck endlessly trying to connect. I searched all over the web last night and tried many different things, but this is as far as I got. Any advice?
I am also using the USB cable that came with my phone and a USB port on the back of my computer.
Thanks!
Hey guys,
Just recently, my PC and any other PC Ive tried for that matter will not recognize my Note 3. I had Windows 7 and it worked fine for months, then just the other day it came up on the bottom as USB Device Not Recognized, and no matter what I do it will not do so. Yesterday, I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and still the same result. I have installed Kies 3, uninstalled and resintalled Samsung drivers and still nothing. I am running a custom rom in the stock slot using Safestrap...is it possible that that might have messed up something? Even when the cord is plugged into the PC, the phone doesnt come up with anything notification that it's plugged in, but it does say it is charging. If any of you have any tips or something please help because I am at my wits end.
Thanks
Have you tried with another cord?
Computer doesn't see device... Device doesn't detect plug in... Sounds like a bad USB cord

Yes, actually I have and still nothing...forgot to mention that in the original post.
It's a strange problem which leads me to believe that something has gone wrong in the phone, or that I caused something to go wrong by flashing a rom or three, since it did work previously. Unfortunately, I'm at status: Custom, although my Knox is 0x0.

Yes, this shows as disabled. What should this be?
Can't help you solve your problem, but last night I had a hiccup where I plugged my (17 day old) N3 into my computer in a USB2 port and ... nothing at all. (As if it were electrically disconnected - no "unknown devices" showing)
Tried it in a different USB2 port, and ... nothing.
Tried in in a USB 3.0 port - same computer, same OEM cord - and everything was fine. As far as I knew, nothing had changed on either end of things, although the previous evening I had used a different OTG cable for a USB key with the phone, and I had also had a automatic update of the Samsung Push Service on the phone. Nothing had been plugged into the PC's usb ports since it's prior cold boot. (Win 7 x64 Pro).
This morning (both PC and phone have been rebooted), everything is back to normal - both on the phone and the PC. Both the USB2 and USB3 ports all seem fine.
Ugh. Makes me nervous - brand new hardware.
Boot into Odin mode THEN plug the device in, let windows find the drivers for it then once that's done, reboot the phone regularly and see if it works then. It appears to be an issue with most to ALL Samsung devices, but this worked for my wife's galaxy S3 when the computer wouldn't recognize it and the phone didn't detect a PC connection.

Did you fix this problem?
Thank you! Worked perfectly!
I have the same problem, do you have any solutions ? Thanks.
I too have been struggling with this problem. The is no USB symbol in the notifications area on my phone whether I plug into to my computer at work (Win7) or at home (Win7), using a usb3 cable or a usb2 cable. Its as if there was a setting on my phone that allows recognition when plugged into a computer that has been turned off.Is there such a setting? I would love some help on this as well. Thanks in advance! I am rooted with towel root and have had no problems until last week. When I look in the device manager on my computer it shows :
SAMSUNG Android Phone
SAMSUNG Android ADB interface
I tried uninstalling the above and then plugging my phone back in and it re-installs the same driver shown above.
For what it is worth here are the drivers for SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface:
c:\windows\system32\DRIVERS\winusbsys
c:\windows\system32\WdfCoinstaller01007.dll
c:\windows\system32\WinUSBCoinstaller.dll
Should I be using different drivers ? Thanks|!
please help!
any solution yet? i have same problem, no usb detection and camera wont work i want to flash stock rom whit odin but i cant get the computer to recognize my phone...
I was able to fix the usb recognition problem. i had to do a factory restore. I lost root but gained usb recognition AND the Over the Air update to 4.4.4 and patiently awaiting the update to 5.0 hopefully this month!
