[Q] Standalone/Native apps for android wear watches - Wear OS Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, I'd like to know some apps that you install using the phone, but which can be used when the phone is disconnected (not with you), so run natively on the watch.
Like, I install app A when I have my friends android phone, when I go home, I still want to use app A. I know there is a possibility for this as google said it. I know of the 2 apps: wear calc and wear compass. But surely, there should be more right? Anyone know some Watch-specific/native/standalone apps?
Thanks!

Can I install apps on it with a phone, and use them without a phone?

Hello.
I'm planning on buying a lg g watch. I currently have an iPhone, and will be getting an android phone for sure in 6 months (iPhone bill still goes for 6 months). I was wondering, can I install apps on my friends android phone, install them to my lg g watch, and then when I go away, still use those apps.
Like, calculator, small games etc..?
I understand I need a phone to set them up, and that, I have. I also understand I can't get notifications on my watch without the phone. but apps installed on the watch like a calculator, can be used without the phone, or not?
Thanks!
I don't have an Android Wear watch (waiting for the 360 here in Brazil) but I think you can access those apps that don't need constant connection to the phone like a compass, calculator... Your watch will show that is disconnected, but if you scroll down to the start option, I guess the apps will be there.
Yes, il it possible for the stand-alone application (calc, compass....).

[Q] Alternative to Android Wear, using a wear device without Play Services

Hi, I recently got a Moto 360 as a present. But sadly, I soon came to the realization that you can't run Android Wear without GAPPS installed (I'm running CM10.2). I'm not going to install Google's spyware just so I can use a watch.
Are there other Apps that work with AndroIid Wear Devices? My smartphone does support Bluethooth 4 and BLE. A little bit digging showed me that some dedicated people got some functionality to work on their Iphone without Google Services. Alos when I install the Pebble App it recognzes my phone (but can not connect)
I really just want to get notifications to my watch, control music , set an alarm and maybe get my pulse data on my phone. Are there third party apps that can do that?
The person who ported the Android Wear functionality to Iphone has a Github repository of his Iphone app under shiitakeo/android_wear_for_ios . If there is no option I will have to write my own app and I'm going to orient myself on what he did there.
So you are looking for an app to connect your android phone to the iOS wear connect app on moto360? And not android wear app?
I'm looking for a third party android app that lets me connect my Moto 360 with my Phone aCyanogenmod 10.2 without gapps installed.
Without gapps I can't install the offical Android Wear app. Taking a peak in the IOS world shows me that it' s possible to do that with a device that supports Bluethooth 4.0 and BLE. The Pebbles app also recognizes my watch but does not let me connect it, this tells me that they must use a similiar protocol or maybe even the same. My question is, if someebody already did write such an App, that lets you connect your Android phone with your smart watch (without installing gapps!), or if I have to do this on my own. (I'm a software developer but never did anything with Bluethooth or much in Android.)
I'd also like to find a non-gapps solution for this. Have you found one?

apps for KW88

Hi,
I'm looking to create an app for a KW88 (KingWear) smartwatch I've purchased and awaiting it to be shipped to me.
As this smartwatch has a sim card, it may double as a phone. Therefore, I wonder, if I create a standalone app for the smartwatch (It is supposed to show the pictures of contacts and then, on press, call them), do I need to make a normal android app or an Android wear app?
(Implying it is possible to have a third party app completely standalone on the KW88 watch in the first place.....)
many thanks for the answers!
Regards,
Wattah

Careful, Wattah!
The KingWear KW88 runs on Android 5.1 and not Android Wear - which means it doesn't support apps made for Android Wear at all...
This standalone app you meantioned won't be integrated and run only if you open it manually. Native support in terms of using this app instead of the built in app will be difficult to work around. (see launcher apks on Google+ forums)
Hope that finds you well
Best regards,
Daniel
Welp, sorry, apparently I've never said anything back.
Thanks for the answer, as it actually made things a lot easier. I've now programmed an app and using a app called Always on, the app is nearly always on. What I intend to create is a skin over the KW88 device which will make it much more usable for elderly people.
What I noticed is that sometimes, using the physical button, the app will close and display the watch face. For us it is easy to navigate through the watch face, but I need it to be as easy as it can ever be and so, i need the face removed.... Is there any way to either: remove the face alltogether or have this app be incorporated in the face (it needs to be able to handle calls and use GPS)....

Several Apps unavailable on Wear24 play store (android wear 2.7)

I have tried searching for Google Keep and Sleep (as android) but they dont show up, including several other apps from vendors who claim them to run on android wear 2.0. When i try installing them through desktop and selecting my watch on play store website, it says device is not compatible. The watch is updated (2.7). I have ruled out the possiblity of unavailibility due to being in Canada as I have it installed on all other devices. What else could be the reason?
Is there any other respository I could find these apks and push them through adb (debugging through wifi)?
If the apps are Wear 2.0 ready, like Sleep as Android, just install the app on your phone and it will sync to the watch and will be available for install after that.
Using with iphone

Android Wear insists my Google App is not updated

Hi all,
I needed to do a reinstall of my phone in order to clean up data. (don't worry, this is indeef about Android Wear).
I couldn't set my watch up and it is syncing with my phone. However, the Android Wear app is insisting that I do not have a sufficiently updated Google App.
It is wrong as I even tried a Google App with a release date of 16-Jan-2018 from Apk Mirror, and yet the Wear app still gives this error in the screenshot, even after reboot.
I mean generally it's okay not to use Android Wear, but, that app has some functionality that I need. (eg Screenshot, Bluetooth Debugging from my phone needs to be enabled from that app, etc).
Anyone know what is up with this?
