I miss an old feature of Galaxy S3: Location in picture filename taken by Camera.
Is it present in Galaxy S5?
I cant find a similar option!

Have you turned Location tags on in your camera settings, this enables the GPS, then in gallery when you look at a picture, tap the Menu buttons > more info and the location is indicated there using Google maps, is that what your looking for.
Thank You, but I'm looking for a differend feature. On my old Galaxy S3 picture file name was like this: 20140216_104656_Abbey Road_HDR.jpg so there was the name of the street where You took the picture into the file name.

Yes, I completely agree. On my old Note 3 i used to be able to enable this very useful feature, "contextual filename" - what that did was basically add a *_street_name* location tag to the end of the filename. Now people who make lots of albums surely find this extremely useful, as you can instaltnly recognize the area where the image was shot (very handy, trust me, if you have like thousands of pictures)

On my actual Note 4, you CAN enable location tags, but you CANNOT turn contextual filename on, as it's completely gone as a feature, and I have but recently realised this, after copying some pics from my phone to PC, where the EXIF will not even show you the basic coordinates.

Yes it is available on my S3 which has camera version 1.5, it is on my TAB which is version 2.0 but its not on the S5 which is version 3.0, when you decompile the apk it is not even in the structure as disable option its just not there at all, only Samsung know why they have removed it completely.

Ive been looking for an option to set what the filename of photos are but i cant seem to see it. I pretty sure there isnt one, which is kinda disapointing. It woiuld be nice to be able to set it so pictures area easier to find when backed up.
I have t in the park coming uip (working) and it would be good to be able to set the filename to t in the park day 1, and so on for easy uploading to our webnsite and facebook.
when i had the g1 i could do this no problem.
IM starting to regret not waiting on the desire coming back in stock. the large screen just isnt making up for all the things its lacking in software.
ok i found that you can enable prefix for storage card, but i dont want date prefixing, i want custom one
Do you just want to change the file name? Open the image in the album, bring up the controls for the picture, hit the right most icon, Properties, and Rename is located on the right softkey.
No i want to set a prefix so that my photos can be orginised better. isnteam of imagennn i want for instance, t in the parknnn.
So i can basically set it, take pictures, then change it to something else etc
I've actually been *pleasantly* surprised with the Vibrants gallery app (gallery3d.apk), though I'm stymied that it seems to default to showing photos in an "oldest first" format. Is this true for everyone else? Anyone know how to change this behavior?
Thanks,
Yip
*** CHECK THIS POST for a partial (very cool) solution to this issue ***
Mine does the same thing. Kind of a pain when you have a lot of photos and have to scroll through tons of them to get to the latest pics.
yea this I find annoying, wonder how we can hack it...
Hmmm...so others are seeing the same thing, eh? I guess we're hoping someone finds a workaround for this. It's actually a very full-featured gallery app, so I'm surprised that something like this was left out -- seems like a natural option to set. In fact, it *should* be the default setting, if you ask me.
Hopefully someone will solve this AND/OR it'll be fixed in the next OS refresh.
+1 same annoying behavior. for the 3d gallery app looking so nice and polished, and the sharing having so many options, the basic preferences is quite lacking. :/
such as sort, delete confirmations, and so on and so forth
Partially solved!
Quick update on this:
I found another thread that allows you to replace the stock Vibrant camera app with the stock Captivate camera app -- basically because it's easier to use, selecting scenes, and so forth. Really a nice update.
Anyhow, I was noting that the new camera app placed everything in a "Camera" folder instead of the "Photos" folder. Rather than fuss with it, I just used Astro to move all of the photos to the new location, and then I deleted the old Photos folder.
So.... I opened up the Gallery app and voila! All of the photos are now sorting properly: newest first! Still no way to select any other sort option, but this is DEFINITELY the proper default setup.
Hope that helps someone else out there!

I did the same thing and it works like a charm
Hi, I've noticed that the Gallery app is slightly different from my S6 in that it includes all pictures on my phone when i click on the Gallery button in Camera app.
Is there anyway to exclude all pictures except for the ones that the camera takes, like in my S6?
It a bit annoying that there is always a meme (from whatsapp group chats) in the bottom corner of the Camera
Same concern here, did you find any solution?
This has been an issue since Note 7 and I have not found any solution yet, except going directly to gallery/albums/camera instead.

I have used "no media" on my N7 to stop advertising pics showing up in gallery back when I had it (yep, advertising pics were showing up in gallery too), but that's really not a solution, since in my case I have tons of media files on my phone and I want them to show as media files, just not inside gallery open from camera. I have not seen advertising pics showing up in S8 gallery, but pictures that I downloaded from internet do show up.
I have the same issue! But with camera app.
I have the same problem on my S8. I don't want them to hide from gallery but at the same time they shouldn't be included in the camera.
I have the same problem, and I haven't found the fix yet. The .nomedia fixes the problem, but it isn't good as a permanent solution.
*Necromancer ⚠*
My Solution is to use Quick Pic! Been using it for years! (even b4 CM purchase. No they didn't molest it) It allows Hiding with or without password.
I give up on Gallery!
Obviously, .nomedia is not a real solution, to this day from Note4 to Note8. It would be nice, if like Open Camera allow an app to be used when clicking "Gallery" icon. I still use OC frequently, but some features are not exposed to 3rd party apps!
I can say it's embarrassing to show pictures &andaccidently swipe. Showing some of my Tumblr saves..
Use ES File Explorer to find the Cache holders and set them to hidden.
.nomedia only works until you clear the app cache and then it's deleted along with it.
If the gallery can't see the folder, it can't display it's contents.
Where are these cache holders?
So, I have just upgraded myself from G3 to this Beast phone (love it)
Native Galaxy Gallery App there is a Story Mode/ selection that puts together all the pictures you have then in a given day or location and adds background music & some effects but, in doing so it cuts the pictures so you end up with half the face or picture to see.
Are there any settings the I need to change to make the pictures show in full or is there any fix for this.
I tried searching the forums but found nothing. In case I was wrong please direct me to the correct post
I'm finding that I have the same results and can't find any settings to change the way it seems to zoom in on each photo. Really nice idea but poor execution...

No one else seems to have this issue or care for this feature
or they are too busy rooting/ unlocking the SD version of the phone
Can't say about others, but in my case: 1. easy enough to do it manually just the way I want it 2. it almost never works properly, besides cutting off the frame. Case in point, my phone created album called "at the beach", after we went to the beach. Well, most of the pictures in this album are not from anywhere near the beach and since I have location embedded in every picture and phone already correctly identified I was at the beach including particular field, not sure why it added pictures taken at home and many other locations. Bottom line: useless function personally I don't care about.
Hi guys, i just realized that the camera app of this phone is really poor and lacks even basic options like selecting video/photo resolution/megapixels. Is there any modified version of the app that adds these options? If not what's the most recommended app to get the most out of this beasts camera?

Google camera can be a pretty good option, I also use filmic pro if you want to get full control of your camera.

Thanks man. Do these options you mentioned support all 3 rear cameras of the phone to the fullest? Any working apk for Google camera that is recommended working for OP7T Pro?

I wanna say the the Google camera supports all three with a custom xml file. It can be found on xda under GCam.. I can't find it right now for whatever reason, but a quick Google search will get you there
How I just installed GCam

So here's how I just installed it on my 7tProMc5G.
First with Telegram installed, look for "GCam Finder [BOT]"
This is a menu driven space, at the bottom click "GCam Download", new buttons appear, select phone manufacturer (OnePlus) and phone (OnePlus 7/T/Pro)
Then you'll see instructions and buttons to download APK and XML. Download both. (You're now done with Telegram, but there is some good info in the FAQ.)
Once you've done that I went to the notification of the download and installed the apk from there, you might be able to install from File Manager.
Once that's done the apk is installed, but you want to add the xml. This will go into a specific folder, which can vary, so do the below to make it easier.
Open Gcam. It's just called Camera, but has a different icon from the OnePlus. (It recognized the three cameras, and seemed to work ok, but just in case I decided to install the downloaded xml.)
From the top of the viewfinder, swipe down to open the options (flash, hdr, etc.)
Click the little settings icon at the bottom of the options window.
Scroll to the bottom of the Settings and select Configs.
Click on Save and enter a save name, anything will work, you're just making a config so that GCam makes all the folders you need.
Now back out of the app and go to file manager.
Go to Download and find the .xml file, copy it to the clipboard.
Go up to Internal Storage and find the newly created GCam folder, and the Configs folder inside it (mine was called Configs7)
Put the downloaded .xml file in there, you should also see the one you just created.
Now go back to GCam and in the bottom area where the three buttons are, double-tap to the right of the "last picture" button. You should get a dialogue allowing you to load a config, choose the downloaded .xml.
When I did that the three "zoom" options changed, this will be based on which xml you download.
I checked and NightSight seemed to work, also while in NightSight scroll down from the top and Astrophotography gets turned on.
Kinda neat. I'm digging this phone, it's wicked fast. I bought it for the 12G RAM, I didn't even think 5G would work, seems to though.
I simply installed urynx05's lastest 2.3 Gcam on my unrooted 7t Pro Mclaren (I'm waiting for my unlock.bin) and all the cameras work without any issues. No need to use any xml's to get everything working, just enable the aux cams in settings. Just Google gcam urynx05 and the you'll find it.
