Disable Capacitive Buttons - Add Virtual Buttons possible? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Coming from M8 i really miss the virtual buttons and kind of dislike the capacitive ones. It is strange that Samsung exchanged the back and Menu/Recent Buttons as well.
However, the Topic says it all, is it possible?
Thanks in advance!

I'd like this too.

Personally i would'nt disable the normal Menu and Back buttons but if you want the on screen buttons
You need to have root access and a root file explorer like Root Explorer or ES File Explorer. Open Root Explorer and find build.prop file.
System/build.prop
Make copy of the build.prop save to your SD Card in case you have a problem with the edited one so you can replace it if necessary
Open build prop file with long press then the option to open in text editor then add the following line at the end of the file.
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
Save the file and then reboot your phone. Once the phone has booted up, the navigation bar should be activated. If you want to remove it, simply remove the line or replace the build prop with your saved backup one

Can anyone upload a picture to see how it looks once activated?

I recommend CM12 Temasek build...with touchwiz i got a funny navbar in landscape view.

Big icons at home screen

Recently I updated to WM 6.1, so I have to reconfigure my device. Now I can't remember where I can turn off the menu with the big icons depicted at the bottom of my post. I find it really annoying to have an extra window pop up, since most of the time I click the right icon and don't need bigger ones.
I've already gone through all of the settings, but can't find the option to turn it off, though I know it's possible to! Any help is appreciated, I'm sure someone knows.

If you have large start menu enabled then this is also part of it. I don't know if you can turn it off individually.
It can be disabled by deleting few keys in registry.
1)HKLM/Software/HTC/EnlargeTitleBar (Or something like that)
2)HKLM/Services/Largetitlebat (Or something like that)

I've the same problem too.
Few weeks ago I installed a new lock screen program (not S2U2) to subsitute the original one. Later I uninstalled it. the original lock screen is lost. It is now same as the one in WM6.1, i.e. showing unlock button at lower-left and a grey screen is shown to unlock after the button is clicked.
Anybody can help us to restore the lock screen of WM6.5?
Its actually quite simple (for someone who has the files) to resolve, i made a thread this morning with the same problem. ill copy the important parts:
The slider im looking for comes stock (i think ?) with the 1.61 ROM, it is transparent and uses the same type message symbol as the one in Sense. The files needed can be found in resco in the windows folder.
These are the full names of the files required to restore the slider:
\\windows\\icn_em_up.png
\\windows\\icn_em_dn.png
\\windows\\icn_mc_up.png
\\windows\\icn_mc_dn.png
\\windows\\icn_vm_up.png

\\windows\\icn_sms_up.png
\\windows\\icn_sms_dn.png
\\windows\\LS_LockSliderLong.png
\\windows\\LS_LockSliderLong_Dwn.png
\\windows\\LS_LockSlider.png
\\windows\\LS_LockSlider_Dwn.png
Should be a simple copy n paste thanks

disable input method popup menu?

there is 1 thing that drives me MENTAL in winmo. you know...at the bottom there is the keyboard icon to hide or show the keyboard? yeah thats great, very useful, but if you touch 2 or 3 pixels to the right you get this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
There must be a registry key to disable this menu? it drives me crazy, its so easy to accidentally tap it when going to hit the spacebar or the keyboard icon but takes almost 15 seconds to appear with no way of canceling it until it displays.
Very frustrating.
Hi Uppy,
This is driving me crazy too.Count me in for this crusade.
Can someone help us please???
Try this...
First find HEKY_CURRENT_USER\Controlpanel\Sip with a registry edting tool,
then create a new DWORD with the name TurnOffAutoDeploy,and set the value to 1.
Have fun with your T3333(Mega)!
Thanks dude, i tried it but no luck.
Searched but did not find anything on XDA....
However this is a site with many, many registry tweaks http://nowsci.com/registry-changer/..... check the section on "input method". Maybe disable sip input method will work....Have not tried them.....and be careful changing in particular HKCR registries can be "killing" for your device.....know from own experience

[Q] Keycode of an virtual button

Hello i need to override the virtual onscreen button that hides the soft keyboard.
Does anyone know hot to get the event of the virtual button that hides the keyboard or its KEYCODE? On devices with hardware buttons (Back Home Options Search) this can be done by overriding the BACK button, but on devices that have onscreen virtual buttons the back button changes into an arrow that hides the keyboard...
The first view with normal buttons

Sorry for bothering you with this but i searched google for two days and found nothing.
Sorry for my english and thank you!
You can override the EditText: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3425932/detecting-when-user-has-dismissed-the-soft-keyboard
There are also other possiblities: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2150078/how-to-check-visibility-of-software-keyboard-in-android
They just do not use the onKeyXXX methods. :laugh:

First of all thank you for your fast answer.
I managed to implement to detect if the soft keyboard is shown or hidden using the method that measures the layout height.
Thank you very much!!

[Q] Statusbar LG-E400

Hey guys, I need some help.
I edited my SystemUI.apk to remove the music widget and the carrier text for more notification space, But I have a problem now.
In the carrier area there was my clear button, and now it's gone. I want it back but diffrent, Hope you guys can help me!
This is how it looks like now:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And this is how I want it:
Or can I make this button to clear the notifications?
Already Thanks!
DarrellDD
have a look at my SystemUI, it's themed similar to NatureUX's so it should answer your first question.
[EDIT]
Got it working now, and I know my problem.
Because I hide the old clear all button and not deleted it, It uses that one. By deleting it it uses the new one.
It works like a charm!
Thanks!
[EDIT]
I want that indeed, but I tried to copy it to my SystemUI.apk with no succes. The button appears, but has no functions. When clicking on it, the background changes but it doesn't clear the notifications. Also when I added the ids of the button apktool won't even build the apk because of errors. I have no idea how to implent it working. Hope you can help me.
Greeting,
DarrellDD
you don't have to add a new id. my example only move the button to notification header and add a custom image. the id (@id/clear_all_button) and all other elements remains the same.
I mean the drawable ids in the public.xml But I saw they automatticly added when building the apk. Thanks anyway! You really helped me editing my phone!
