He also posted on the N9 forum, all he did was pull the files out of the sdk emulator image, it has nothing to do with the n6 specficially as the files arnt for it.

Confused about 9.png files

Ok, first sorry for posting this question, and I did search and found that the information is some what broken up and it confused me. Sorry I'm not a developer so the lingo is way far advanced.
But this is what I've gathered and done.
-I took an app that I wanted to edit. I got the images and did my PS CS4 editing to my liking and saved them.
-I did the draw9patch and manage to save them in a folder and then I put the correct names on the pngs with the 9 still at the end of the file name.
-I got lost with step no.6 of one of the threads talks about "eclipse" and thats where I'm lost.
I don't know what the heck its talking about workspace. I don't know what to do from here. Can somebody please explain it to me in laymans term. thank you.
You need to load up the sdk, eclipse is part of that.

I have the SDK installed but do I go to the SDK Manager or to the tools? if I go to the tools which app do I open? this is where I'm stuck at
Did you try this?

@johnny quest: forget about that outdated method. Use apktool or ApkManager instead.

hey brut is there a video or post relating to the steps on editing .9.png's using apkmanager or apktool? ive been looking into the draw9patch thing but everything i run into is an old post and i guess thats what you saying here. i was a total noob and now ive got down using theme porter, update.zip maker for modding stuff but ive only taken the png plunge seeing that most people are saying you gota be a pro to edit .9's and xml and all that. im fully capable of getting it im just not finding the right tutorial and info. any direction would be much appreciated
also im trying to mod my phone dialer (attached) is that something a semi-new modder can handle. eg-changing the background from black to white...the orange numbers from orange to white? just a shot in the dark you know

Why not? I'm sure someone already beat you to it as I write this. People are already going ape**** for ICS system dump, not that I blame them
Awesome! Can't wait to see where this thread goes!
Has anyone had any luck deodex-ing thes? I only managed to get a few properly deodexed, but none that I wanted. the rest have <EOF> (end of file) errors. my guess is that bak/smali needs to be updated for ICS.

There is no point really. Its proof of concept. SDK ROMs are next to useless.
this might be a basic question since I am doing this for the first time. I have the system dump of ICS and boot.img of my device HTC aria. I have edited the build.prop in system dump and init.rc in boot.img. How can I repackage the system dump that I downloaded with the boot.img that I have?
I used the option "99 - Build rom..." from the kitchen options but CWM fails installing the zip.
can you share info as whatz missing here?

How to flash Android L .tar.gz on rooted Nexus 4?

Hello, I have a rooted Nexus 4 running CM11 M7.
I've downloaded the official Google Code Android L .tar.gz file for the Nexus 4. How do I go about flashing/installing it? I already have ClockworkMod 6.0. I don't mind having to factory reset if it's necessary. My bootloader is, I understand, unlocked.
Thanks for any help!
Can you please share the for you downloaded?
You have to flash it but not through recovery. Download universal android toolkit
how smart could you be to create an account just for this stupid prank?
OP, give us either screenshots, upload what you have, or give us a system dump. Otherwise I'm calling BS on another desperate Nexus 4 user who can't be bothered to wait just to play around with something that holds more bugs than a forest.

I think OP is telling the truth i accessed the aosp project for mako and found this android. googlesource. com/device/lge/mako/+/l-preview (take out the spaces)
if you see there is a link like this on the top [tgz] that downloads a tar.gz file.

this is a 602kb file containing the (incomplete) kernel source. useless.
Does this mean I have to wait until the factory image is published?

yes. youll be waiting to about october or so until google actually releases "L".
My $0.02
Not sure how he got the tar.gz, but it wouldn't have been hard to compress the files from Android Studio
It's a "preview" for developers to begin developing for Android L. "Allegedly" there are people attempting to port to the Nexus 4. I can't even port Nexus 5 over

Sorry not able to at moment
It simply is a case of just downloading the rom zip taking out the system.new.dat & running the script with the command given then unpacking it with the ext tool
Anyone who can follow instructions can do it - requires no knowledge as it's all automated
Solved

*note* This file is mainly here for rom developers looking to build a custom rom or extract files/patches to apply to other models. It can't be used to repair a bad update as patches will not apply twice.
nice, i hope someone can make it compatible with Y
and btw ... there are typos in your signature : 16 MB / 32 MB for your nexuses

The signature reflects the specific models I purchased and the amount of ram/rom they had. As such it appears accurate to me.
it's 16 GB and 32 GB, if it was MB you wouldn't even install anything
How do you install this?
Sweet! So just flash in recovery?

The short answer, and it's not intended to be ugly, is that if you have to ask it's not a file you should be installing.
It's easier to get it from the system updater....this is primarily intended for folks doing rom work or want to extract the patches to see what might be applied to the other models. It could be sideloaded via twrp for the specific firmware/model listed if they needed to for a particular reason.

It died on verifying system because I don't have that Google bloat installed. Oh well.
Quick question. I've flashed .bin files via odin, what do I do here?
It's simply a renamed zip. Change .bin to .zip and you can open it.
@purple.epod and others....I'm uploading an unrooted system image with boot (we need the kernel to match the system) to mega and will post the url when it completes tomorrow sometime. That file can be used to flash via twrp to the latest version and skip all the interim steps. Keep an eye out for it.
Sorry for so many questions -_- Lol. But flash this? Or the one you're talking about uploading?

The average user should use the file being uploaded in the system image thread. This url was for folks doing work on rom's.
