Soft Brick Help - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Every flash I try with Odin is not working. I have tried 4 different stock .tar files all of which ****ing fail through Odin. I'm getting extremely pissed off right now as I need my phone to not be ****ed up.
What Happened:
Installed a rom on my Samsung Galaxy S4 AT&T SHG-I337 that had issues with the WiFi. Actually, it was THIS rom. When I flashed it using SafeStrap I figured if there were problems then I would just revert back to stock rooted rom and try to find a different rom. Nope. Hyperdrive is ****ing gay and removed SafeStrap so when I went to boot into it, SafeStrap wasn't there anymore. So I attempted to flash using Odin and it failed. So since I removed my battery while in download mode my phone will no longer boot normally or into recovery.
I have tried to flash all sorts of stock firmwares and all just FAIL through Odin.
I Have Tried:
NB1
MDB
MDL
And I think there were 2 more but hell if I can remember what they were.
So how the hell do I unbrick this piece of crap?

You removed the battery while downloading in download mode? That's a problem. But use the nb1 tar and try different usb ports. Odin can be finicky. Good luck

I have tried flashing that same .tar so many times. And every time I see "FAIL" flash at me I get even more mad. I need some other suggestions.

Have you tried different usb ports and cables? I had a device where I flashed many times and finally it worked. And I'm not the only one that has experienced this. Sorry, but that's the only suggestions I have.

That would not make any sense seeing that I was able to flash fine with Odin 2 days ago using the same port and cord.

It probably got hosed when you too the battery out while it was downloading. My last suggestion is jtag. See mobiletechvideos.com

When I'm in Download Mode I just noticed something that says "WRITE PROTECTION: ENABLED" so do you have any idea what that is?

Yea, so no one has a fix for this?

Gonna quote myself and say that its fixed now.
All I did was take out batter overnight and changed the USB port to the one directly from my motherboard. I then just flashed the stock NB1.tar.md5 file and everything went smoothly from there. Though that has never worked for me in the past (different USB Ports) but for some reason it did today.
Would me pulling my batter out overnight have had something to do with it as well?

Mtp broken after MF9 host

I'm running a totally stock Sprint Galaxy S4. I recently updated my firmware and I'm now unable to connect to Odin or use MTP for file transfer. My phone will mount as a camera. I have used various cables to rule that out. I also went to the Samsung website to get the latest usb drivers. I went so far as to wipe my phone too. Does anyone know how to fix this? I would like to root my phone. I have a stock recovery so I'm limited on what I can flash. I also downloaded official firmware but had signature issues. Please help Lord Vader. I must destroy Jedi Scum.

You need to flash the newest kernel for your device, this has been fixed.

4.4 update caused bootlooping

I took the 4.4 update and now the device bootloops. It was never rooted and never used much at all. I think no more than ten apps were ever installed on it. It belongs to my mother so I'm not familiar with it. I'm very familiar with android as I've been rooting and installing roms on my devices for over 2 years now but I was hoping I could get a quick solution from someone here so I don't spend my whole day trying to fix it
Thanks in advanced!

Now you can just flash stock firmware using fastboot.
Download the factory image from Google and flash it using fastboot.

Help please

So I was trying to help a friend flash stock using Odin because his phone app was being a piece of crap, he was on a CM 11 nightly and, well, long story short I almost bricked his phone not knowing there is a limit on how many times you can flash a Samsung device using Odin because of the yellow triangle. I can't use triangle away because it's the CM ROM on a CM kernel, I was able to get rid of the softbrick by using a older CM ROM on his SD card, this wouldn't be a problem if his phone app was still working, his WiFi was working and if his sound was working, but it's not. So to recap and for the question, Samsung is stupid, and can anyone help?
Thanks in advanced

First thing you have to do for anyone to help you is,provide which build you were on and which stock rom you were trying to flash. There are tons of people here with great knowledge if you can be real specific.

Fairly sure there is no limit to the amount of times you can flash using Odin. There is a counter but no limit
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
Sorry, Samsung isn't stupid or they wouldn't just magically be a $250+billion dollar company that has been around for 76 years.
Because you jumped in and were unsuccessful with what you were doing doesn't constitute failure on their part.
How about taking that phone - S4 back to bone stock. ALL the answers on how to do that are here. In fact in the last couple days I've personally given instructions on how to do that for a number of people here in the help section. Do some searching and reading and you'll find your answers.
It always helps to come to a manufacture's section and say how sh**y they are. Makes those of us who choose to use and support them feel ever so helpful.
Ok sorry should've been more specific, I'm not new to these forums I was just in a hurry, also seriously guys I'm just frustrated I know Samsung is not stupid you don't have to post their history, they're awesome it's just dumb that they have a limit, and yes if you install the latest stock Sprint update (the one I did before I rooted and rom'd his phone) there wouldn't be a thing such as triangle away. Anyway on Odin it says it passed when flashing stock (the firmware that comes with the phone) but it does it in 4 seconds, and when his phone boots up and it just restores CM, so far everything we've tried either softbricks it or restores CM. Is there anything that completely and I mean completely restores this phone

Where are you getting this idea there is a limit on Odin flashes?
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
There is no limit, as mentioned already, with Odin.
I've used it probably a hundred times since I got my S4. I know others have used it more.
Take some time, look through the Q&A/help forum and you'll see some posts I've helped others with, in the last 24hours alone, on how to get back to stock.
Edit:
Okay read this post. It'll get you to stock. Just read the instuctions on how to do it.
Ok I'll try it thanks for tolerating me I can be hard to understand when panicking

Glad you got it working and THANK YOU for posting back - that is what helps the community.
I understand the panic too. Especially when things are f'd up.
But if there is one valuable lesson I've learned in my half century of life; if you can just pause, relax and step back, many problems are easily resolved. And better yet more avoided by haste.
Good luck with the new phone setup.
OK one more quick thing, we flashed it successfully but now it won't boot its been over an hour after we flashed and its stuck on the Sprint logo

You can first boot to stock recovery (power on + volume up) and choose a 'factory reset'. That often clears stuff up pretty well
Or
Try and PC Oding a stock MK2 kernel. Then battery pull and restart after. Saw this on a few phones
I'll have to search to find it but it's here somewhere.

***need help rooting***

What's up everyone, i'm new to the site and i was wondering if anyone would be willing to help me root my galaxy note 3. I've tried rooting in the past and failed terribly. I tried on a sprint gs3 and a verizon note 2, and i almost bricked both of them. So if someone with a lot of experience would help root my phone and install a custom rom, it would be greatly appreciated. As far as the type of rom, i could careless about appearance...i'm all about performance and battery life. So basically, i want a rom that "overclocks" my processor and removes bloatware and unnecessary apps. I'll take instructions on how to do it but i'd rather someone remotely control my pc [teamviewer] to help. I'll even paypal you like $5 for helping me. Thanks in advance!
I *would* help you, but I'm having issues rooting as well. I'm no where near new to it, been doing it since my HTC Fuze way back when. There are a couple of ways to root, Vroot, will pretty much root anything android and there is Kingo. I would give you links to both, but its not allowed, but you can do a quick google search and find them and info about them. If you're on the MJE build, I was successful with both methods, but I managed to cause a few issues when I was rooted with Kingo and had to Odin back to stock.
You need kingo 1.1.8 and safestrap. Both are one button operations. I rooted and had the safestrap installed and the modified twrp recovery in less than 3 minutes. Kingo 1.2 had a faulty script and causing errors.

Obviously since the bootloader is locked down tight, if you want a custom rom, you need to use safestrap.
You need to download safestrap apk file from hashcode's website, open it, grant root permission, and install recovery.
Once you install recovery you can reboot to recovery right from the safestrap app, then create and activate rom-slot-1
Once active, you can flash/install your ROM.zip file (I would recommend Hyperdrive or Jelly Beans) and reboot...that's pretty much it in a nutshell, its relatively easy
Needing some help with rooting as well. Instead of making a new thread I figured I'd hijack this one
I just tried to root with Kingo, it failed to root. I have a S3 SCH-I535. Where do I go from here to successfully root my phone? I used Kingo 1.2.0.1876. I could not find version 1.1.8.

Thanks, finally got the download. All 1.1.8 links were leading to 1.2 download, had to use a mirror download to get 1.1.8.
Starting root now, hope it doesnt brick! Before I start...I guess I should ask, will rooting and going to a custom ROM fix my battery drain issues? Since the 4.3 update I get about 6 hours of battery life while not using my phone at except to turn the screen on for 10 sec to check the battery level.

I honestly don't know what to tell you. I have a note 3 and 1.1.8 worked for me.
Are you sure it's 1.1.8? I tried many times and downloaded 1.2even thoughit said1.1.8 and finally found 1.1.8 from a user on xda. If you need I can upload the correct version. But as previously stated you can find the most up to date safe strap on the note 3 board. Install the app press install recovery and every time your phone boots it will ask continue or recovery. Make a backup of stock and restore to any slot you want If you want to do stock rooted or select any slot and flash any rom (make sure it's for the Verizon note 3 because with a locked bootloader you cannot flash kernels) I'm currently running neon rom and with moderate usage I'm getting almost 3 days on a single charge. I find wifi downloading I can destroy 40 percent battery in about 2 hours though. Any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

You have to make sure you turn off antivirus. For me that meant turning off avg, Windows Defender and some other stuff I found it. Make sure you have developer options on USB debugging, screen stay on, and for some reason it seems like it helped to turn on unknown sources in your security settings on your phone. Sometimes it took me unplugging the USB and plugging it back in a few times in order for it to work but I just did it myself last week and making sure I did those things allowed me to do this pretty easily and reliably

Why don't you flash the full mdl from samfirmware and reroot. If it is truly, mdl and you flash nb1 you will lose the ability to run custom roms.

Yeah, it's definitely MDL and was running ib4std's KK rom. I tried flashing task's AOKP, SHOstock's new rom....even formatted the internal sd and the WiFi toggle just won't turn on for any of them. Don't know what my son did but I'm hoping doing an Odin back to stock works.

Some good news I guess... Local little shop said they could fix it for $50 which is obviously worth it to do. I'll find out more tomorrow once it is apart to see what is wrong. Might be a ribbon cable wasn't seated properly after the screen was replaced but I'd rather have it done by someone that can guarantee it gets fixed
