Hi guys,
I've been reading and watching alot of videos on youtube regarding the Note series...
I would like your very honest answer with in regards to previous experiences with Note devices, specifically Note 3, as I need to make a decision to buy the Note 4.
A) Does it start lagging after a while? I've heard many reports that it does. I'm coming from iPhone 4s (which I've been using for 3 years) and get annoyed with any lag, which I've almost never experienced with the 4s.
B) Is it possible to get rid of lag, if indeed the Note 3 does lag after a while?
C) Does the battery start dying after a while as well? I know it can be replaced easily but I would rather not spend money on it if I can help it.

I have owned all the notes till note 3 (note 4 is not out yet here) and I can tell u I've been quite happy with all 3 and never had any real issues with lag (i think occasionally it does but not that bothersome to me) and the batteries have always been excellent no problem with them (but I did buy a spare one for the note 3)
I still don't know what do to myself. I want it but it's not available in my country and since i am using Tab S 8.4 LTE i am not even sure do i need huge phone like that next to Tab S.
I used Note 3 for almost half year and my experience with it was great. But reading about display problems and that metal frame and how easy it gets damaged and scratched made me think better and i am not sure should i buy it or skip N4 and wait for S6 maybe.
And as i said it's still not available to buy in my country, i can't believe how Samsung messed it up, it's been 2 months since announcement and still nothing, this never happened before with Samsung devices. And new iPhones are coming in 2-3 days. Such a shame.
If it's too expensive when it becomes available i am not getting it, but i would really like to try it even 5 minutes.

Its way too soon to say about all your questions. My note 3 hasnt had any decrease with time, but that doesnt mean the note 4 wont. Battery is also the same as it has always been on my note 3, but again it doesnt mean that is the same for the note 4.
I had the Note 4, now I have the Note 3 (little issue with my note 4, so its at the repair shop to be declared DOA), and I notice a few things:
Note 3 feels a lot slower
Pen on the Note 3 is far less usable in terms of merely navigating the phone, and FAR less useful. On my Note 4 i took the pen out almost all the time, because its just such a sweet feature, even if i wasnt planning on using it for anything real, but just to browse the phone with.
Screen isnt as good
It feels less sweet in hand
So thats just my little input on all of this.

I have a Tab S 8.4 and I still appreciate having a large screen phone too. So buying the Note 4 was easy for me. I have come from owning a Note 3 for the past 12 months too. I thought at first I may be wasting my money and that it wasn't going to be a major upgrade. I was wrong. It feels very much like a totally new phone. The way it feels in your hand is outstanding and the screen is amazing.
I don't really remember lag being an issue on my Note 3 and on the Note 4 it is too early to say but so far so good. I have never had an issue with batteries either. They aren't that expensive to replace anyway.
The Note 4 is the best phone I have ever owned (and see my sig, I have owned a lot!)
I've had my Note4 since Sat the 25th. I haven't experienced any lag at all, just a one second delay on the recent apps capacitive button, but it being a multi function button is normal. The glass is on straight so the "gap" issue is not present. I'm getting 19.5 hours of battery life with 5.0 Hours of screen on time. Very good screen with no color changing effects from any viewing angle..

the last 6 months I was switching frequently between I phone 5s and Samsung s5, till I received my I phone 6 plus last month, which is still with me , ...... and now I am a note 4 user, my input:
I had very good stability with the note , lag is at minimum but not zero
screen is super good
battery life on bar with iPhone 6 plus, probably 1 hour more or less depend on your usage
feeling in hand is great especially compare to iPhone 6 plus ( less slippery, and feels smaller somehow)
camera is very good and actually i prefer it over the Samsung s5 and 6 +
no over heat no crash no freeze which i had about four times on my 6+ and more often on my s5 but never on iphone 5s or note 4
s pen is very very useful and for my surprise i found my self using more than expected
conclusion is note 4 is full of features and the fact is almost a PC replacement ( in term of productivity) doesn't come without a price which is ( very occasion lag)
but again remember no phone is perfect, but the note is so far the best what I have used so far

Now youre just rationalizing. Theres no reason the delay should be there. If it was merely that its a multifunction button, why isnt it the same on the backbutton? Why wasnt this the case with the Note 3, who has a multifunctionbutton in its place? Why does the recent apps on the Note 3 pop up instantly?
Nah, this is merely shoddy implementation, which I hope they will fix with a patch soon.
Other than that, its the best phone Ive used for my use, and the functions of the device are stellar. Just a great improvement over my Note 3.

Eh, its a bit annoying for me, coming from the Note 3 where it pops up fast. And I regularly pop between apps, even with multiwindow and windowed mode options, so Id really appreciate it being sped up a lot. But yes, I dont find it a dealbreaker or anything like that, even with this flaw its still the best phone available for me, without question.

My little input. I haven't read all posts yet so I might be writing something that has been mentioned already.
A)Samsung phones always have lags. If you decide to stay on touchwiz (Samsung launcher) which brings us to question B.
B). You can remove lag for the most part and speed up your note by simply doing a few tweaks that you can find on YouTube. or if you wanna do a little heavier tweaking depending on your carrier you can root(jailbreak) your phone, from there the possibilities are endless especially if you have an unlocked bootloader.
C) Even if your batter dies eventually, for my galaxy S4 I bought two zero lemon batteries and a charger for 10$ on Amazon. One battery lasted me a year and to this day its still good!the fast charger works amazing! And worth buying extra batteries all day! Just my opinion.

What lag have you seen on your Note 4? Lets say we ignore the recent apps thing, it clearly has some kind of bug there, but that has nothing to do with the launcher.

The recent apps lag is clearly a bug as you said. Hopefully they'll fix it in Lollipop. I've also noticed there is some lag when applications are being installed through the Play Store and you attempt to use the phone for other things. Coming from Nexus 5, I can confirm that this used to happen to a much lesser degree on the Nexus 5. Except with the Note 4, these lags and microstutters seems to be exemplified. Other than that, I haven't noticed any lag at all.
Ive seen some stuttering myself in the Chrome Beta browser on certain websites as Im zipping up and down a website, but thats not launcherrelated at all. Other than that, I havent seen any stuttering or lag myself.
If you want random strangers to convince you to buy any phone then this phone is not for you. You should buy it because you like it be a leader not a follower
If we were leaders wed make our own damn phones and wouldn't be the consumers we are. A follower with delusions of grandeur is still a follower.

Battery life in note was always better than anything else and note 4 is not exemption no only that you can buy a spare battery and be cover for a long time until they star to wear of like all bateries
If you been all this time happy with a phone like 4s i don't know what to say. I would struggle to even the most basic operation like sms with a toy like that. The big screen is like travel in economy and being upgrade to first class again i would don't know if this is the phone for you
I know note is good for me and i would not be happy for a second with a puny phone llke the one you been using

also a phone is a phone and a tablet is a tablet when im away i carry my phone when im home i use my tab even though the phone is nice size i would use my tab rather than this

I'm coming from an Iphone4s myself so can't comment on previous Notes sorry but I can say my iphone freezes and lags all the time. Admittedly I'm a heavy user and have been mostly satisfied with the phone (it was even replaced for free under warranty once so kudos to Apple) but to say iphone's don't lag themselves isn't true.
I've used the Note 4 for a few weeks now - on lag issue, experienced some lag after phone being continously on for more than a week (left it on when charging too) but problem was resolved after restarting the phone. Think this is acceptable?
Also on the Note 4, have needed to retrain my usage as you can switch between apps directly without having to go back to desktop to access shortcuts (with side key panel, you can access app drawer directly too)

Yes I find the performance acceptable. TouchWiz may have its bugs but the Note 4 is coming off a launch with many varients.
Sumsungs devs are probably overworked and focused 100% on lollipop due in just a few weeks time.
When lollipop hits and if these bugs are still present then I will be disappointed for sure
I have owned note about one year, still play it every day, and find new functions and hidden features now and then.
Note 10.1 is so a versatile device that you can never take full advantage of it.
It is still the king of tablets at the end of 2014, and is the most underrated device in 2014(just see all the reviews at Android blogs.)

It is my camera, note 10.1 has the best camera among tablets (although most commentators just dismissed it as no so useful, and ipad air 2 suddenly changed their opinions)
It is my GPS, my note is wifi version, but can still be used as navigation device without data connection, and save phone a lot of battery power.
It is my noting and sketching book. Thanks to Lecture notes and Papyrus, I seldom use paper and pencil now. Paperless world isn't just a fiction.
It is my laptops, using Debian Jessie in chroot, and s-pen as mouse, I enjoy my geek life in two great world, Android and Linux.

The screen still blows me away. I've owned a crapload of tablets and nothing else is really in it's class when you consider the usefulness of the SPen on something this size.
Unfortunately, Samsung is just awful with software, so a decent newer ROM is probably as good as it gets. I don't see anything out there I'd rather have.

Waiting for this to be released. I skipped 2014 version and still on the first generation. But its too sluggish these days,,,,, Need a replacement soon.
So far, so good. Been using it for around 6 months. I have the WiFi version, which I will sell soon and get me an LTE version.
I am very happy with it. Owning an iPad Air also, make me think that the iPad is only for my wife and some fun games. Nothing else.
On the other hand, the Note has been proven a beast of a tablet. I hook it up with a BT mouse & keyboard, use Screen Mirroring to my TV and I have a nice laptop
Only thing that bothers me, is the somewhat laggy scrolling through the home pages. Hope it wont be like that with the LTE version.

I think Samsung are stepping-back and re-evaluating their products. They got killed on Galaxy S5 and having way too many Tab lines last year. I don't expect a new Note 10.1 until they can either put an 810 or their own 64bit chip in it. It will have their new look per the alpha and Note 4 lines (I immediately covered my 2014 Note 10.1 with a case, that fake stitching slippery plastic back is awful). I think we may see the new Note 10.1 (2015) around when the Tab Pro and Note 12.2 came out last year (1st quarter).

Bought the 2014 edition from dustinhome in norway for around $200 couple of weeks ago. was a great buy and comming from the 2012 edition its a decent upgrade.

Define fine, one of the primary reasons to buy this tablet was/is the proper use of its size (multi-window) and the S-pen. And while S-pen support in AOSP is kind of good, multi-window support (which IMO is even bigger deal, in all tablets actually) is nowhere to be found.
I'm with you, AOSP is better than any OEM rom, but AOSP mostly cares about phones, has very few (if any) tablet specific characteristics...

I never really liked multiwindow, so I'm fine with AOSP, multi-window always got me to windows that were too small for me, but that might be my eyesight...
To bad the build quality is junk. My display ribbon came loose a few times now and I decided to leave it at home now.

Split-Screen basically splits the screen into two 7-inch screens, most phones (for example) are way less than that. Also the best use that I've found for it is to merely "minimize" a window. That's especially useful if it something that can't properly run in the background like youtube, so I have youtube playing, doing my thing and if I listen something that may need my attention then I simply drag the "minimized" youtube down. One last use is that when an app refers to another the original is not "closed". For example my file manager points to a doc file, when I press to open, it opens on a split screen (almost like on a PC), basically letting me to choose on whether I'd "maximize" it (all the while the file browser is still open) or "minimize" it for later use. This "omni-presence" of windows makes things much faster and direct to me than simply using the recents panel (alt+tab equivalent), although it has its issues too.
Of course the above cannot be done with "drawable" windows (like the ones that exist in AOSP roms) or the ones that can be "drawn" by the S-pen in TW roms. Like you I find them useless as those mini-windows are way too small for proper interaction.
To sum up, multi-window (mostly of the split-screen variety) is an acquired taste. For the first few months I never used it, but once it becomes part of one's "work flow" it's hard to go back. In fact lack of (proper) split-screen is what has kept me away from AOSP for this device. Every single of my devices (other than Note tablet) have been using AOSP before long...

Is this still worth picking up? I see no 10.1 2015 or 2016 on the horizon. I played with the Tab A with s-pen and while I liked the size and features the screen is a big disappointment. Having a note 5 I guess you just get used to a clear screen. I see that 5.1.1 is out and hoping for good reviews and better battery life.

If you get a good deal and care for the pen I would think it's still worth it! I got mine summer last year and am mostly happy with it! There is also still very good support from devs like @joshndroid who's providing us with temasek's unofficial CM13 for the tablet. Still has some issues, but I'm confident there will be a well running CM13 for it eventually. I was also very happy with temasek's CM12.1 version for it (am considering to go back to that until some of the CM13 issues are sorted). I cannot tell you much about the stock lollipop experience, as I never really used that.
I have to say that for me the ability to run a full desktop linux on it is what makes it most useful to me.
There are now a few reasonably priced windows tablets with pen support, in particular something like the Cube i7 Stylus which is pretty interesting (I'm not talking about higher classed devices like Surface or Lenovo's Thinkpad Yogas as they play in a different price league). But you should probably be able to pick up a used Note for still much cheaper and get a very nice experience.
How long will the note 3 live?
The reason i am asking is because with all these new hardware and new android updates, i feel my privacy is withering away, and am pretty much in absolute authority and control of my current note 3 (4.4.2 kitkat).
i.e there is no way in hell i am buying a phone with a fingerprint scanner or use a software that isnt compatible with xposed modules like xprivacy.
So how long can i keep this phone, be up to date with high-specs requiring apps and also have my privacy at the same time?
How long will the phone live depends on your usage and luck. It might last three years, four years, five years, no one knows.
You can understand that what hardware is latest, what's not. Note 3 N9005 uses SD 800, while SD 810 is the latest. And does that matter to you? Again, depends on your usage, I mean if you always want the latest and greatest then Note 3 is slightly behind the line, but if you are just an average user then well, its still a great phone.
If you like KitKat (you should because its stable) and as you said Xposed compatibility etc., then keep the phone as long as you can. No one has the right to play with our privacy, totally with you there.
Hardware wise, for regular use it'll hold out very well for at least 2 more years.
With proper management (debloating, custom launcher and proper care) 3-4 years.
You may need to replace the battery at some point though. Those don't last that long.
I've got a 2.5 year old S3 that still runs smoothly in everyday use. And that's the 1GB RAM Exynos version. Considering that, a 3GB RAM Snapdragon 800 device will last at least 5-6 years before it starts struggling to keep up.

Then maybe a feature phone is safer. Without updates it gets boring. You can use custom roms so you don't need to have fingerprints stored or don't use that feature. There is always a privacy risk nowadays no matter what android you use. Old versions may be at risk as the newer versions get updates etc. You don't have to worry unless you do some "rare" things. Who cares what game you play or which movie you like. For usual people it doesn't matter unless you are sure that your privacy is misused. I was thinking same before but don't care about small things as life will be more tough and i would worry about apps..... Love life instead ^^
It will last loong
My first android was Samsung galaxy I which lasted until note 3 showed - featuring big support from a lot of people who made that phone blazing fast apart from official ROM which was horrible - it lasted loong. For the same thing Note 3 will probably last as much since no significant improvement will be made with future phones.
This phone is feature rich and powerfull, it has really big community and a lot of users. Apart from the hardware related features any software changes can be ported from future phones to this one. And as it gets older it will only be less buggy than freshly new phones.
Well this is my point of view at least and i think i will stick to this baby for as long as it works and boots up! (unless 4k becames standard as 1920x1080 is now that way i might reconsider my view).
Yep note 3 specifications are good to go another 2 years.. But now sammy makes beautiful devices, specifically gs6 and edge are very beautiful.. I think note 5 will be more beautiful.. Becase of that some time we have to go for new divice..
Updated to lollipop and it still runs like a champ. Kitkat is even more stable and kinda feels more practical as well, especially when opening the recent apps menu where you have to wait an eternity.
3gb of ram and a snapdragon 800 should have no problems for at least 2 more years. After that there will probably come other games or apps with higher requirements.

I heard Samsung stopped producing samsung note 3 battery and the battery in the market currently was fake samsung battery. Can anyone recommend me place to buy original samsung note 3 battery which can last for 3 years in Malaysia?

I was able to get a good battery because it was included with a new charger (the white clam shell version)
Try a phone repair store. They would know how to get a good replacement.
I still have 2 left.

I just put a 256 GB Samsung Select EVO card (39.99) and it works fine.
Plays 4GB movie files just fine. (08-2019)

I bought a GadFul compatible battery on amazon about 1 year ago. This battery is really cool, I can use my phone more than a day long without needing to charge it (if I use my phone not as a game station ).
Lst month my motherboard died (sim card reader could not read my sim card anymore), a 2nd hand mb on aliexpress cost about 25 USD... very easy to replace. I am gone for another 4-5 years
After Note 5 was published, people make lots of complaints about it. So, can anyone tell me why Note 4 better than Note 5?

MicroSD-Card reader, IR Blaster, swappable battery, larger battery, Gear VR, no fragile glass body, etc.
Screen off Memo
the only reason why I want to update to Note 5 from Note4 is "Screen off Memo". And now we can have this SOM on Note 4, so no more Note 5 for me (Big thank to xperiacle and Pako7).

No microSD support is bad, but I still can manage that.
But NO user replaceable battery....that's a DEAL BREAKER!
I'm the type of person who use a device until it is broken.
So being able to replace battery easily means I can just replace the battery if the original battery is broken.
That's why Note 4 is better than Note 5
note 4 vs note 5
I just purchased a note 4 Exynos chip instead of a note 5. The reasons for the going for the older model.
- expandable SD card.-( I upgraded from an LG G2), it was always a hassle to backup Roms and if the memory is full from apps and app data then there was no space for music let alone videos. now with SD card I can carry loads of media and even swop out SD cards while I travel. also easy to update ROMS and load content from computer to phone without the need for cables.
- Battery life-the note 4 has a larger battery, yes the note 5 has more efficient hardware and might actually last longer but i believe that with proper software like the recent update to 5.1.1 will negate the hardware effectiveness unless you run high intensity games. I easily reach 2 days battery life and can push 3. and then you can just pop off the back and boom insert new battery. also as your device ages the battery dies and it is a cheap fix to just pop out the back and insert new battery, future proofing a bit.
-Exynos chip- The note 5 has a much faster chip but I am not a gamer. I like to use my phone for everything from calling(yes it is obvious but very overlooked) to running functionality apps that simplify life, with some light to medium gaming thrown in between. IE more calculations than graphics that is why i purchased an unlocked exynos chip note 4. it has the ability to oneday, with the correct software, to also run with 64 bit capability. downside is lack of ROMS especially my favorite CM 12.1. I have also done benchmark test and on geekbench i am getting results of 4500 plus multi score and 1200 single. Antutu gives still 54000 . this means that with Android 5.1.1 the phone is not much slower than the note 5.
The Spen - you cant break your phone with the note 4 Spen, and is idiot proof like you can with the note 5. the other little upgrades are just software. Software can always change. Look at some of the fantastic work done by Devs here to give note users the latest features on older phones.
IR blaster- overlooked but so useful, can control TVs Aircons and Media devices. (just wish samsung could also learn IR signals like my old G2 to custom make a remote for the house/office)
Things that make the note 5 better.
Faster chip( as mentioned above not that major for sum of us, if you game a lot then maybe it is), more ram, better fingerprint reader(one thing I wish note 4 had), samsung pay (nice to have, will unfortunately not be coming to my country soon so not a problem).
Things people say makes note 5 better but I think is just hogwash
- build quality- both are excellently built, but everyone just puts covers on anyway and then the note 4 even wins with better covers that integrate with the back panel, and no glass that can be slippery.
- wireless charging. REALLY people how difficult is it to insert a charger , USB type C with fast charging would be the ultimate solution. and if you really want it the note 4 can also use wireless charging with 3rd party products
Above is just my 2 cents worth. use it ignore it it is just up to you, I know I made my disision and I am not regretting it at all. will probably root my phone soon, but so far there is little reason to root. maybe to use note 5 apps

The Note 4 has overall mostly the same features as the Note 5 does. You won't really notice and difference in speed on a normal daily use, only benchmark wise.
The Note 4 has a removable back, replaceable battery and microSD support. If your Note 4 battery is fauly, you can get a new one under warranty. If your Note 5 battery is faulty then you would have to send it back to Samsung.
And, of course, the Note 4 is cheaper and you're getting way more value for your money than with the Note 5 in my opinion.
It seems to me that every new Note has features I don't want added, and ones I really use taken away.
Case in point - I still have my old Note 3 lying around as a spare, and picked it up to use the other day. It made me stop and think - the Note3 was actually an awesome phone, why on earth did I "upgrade" to a Note4 in the first place?
1) Note3 was lighter and slimmer than the Note4
2) It had USB3 - to be honest I don't miss that all that much, but it was kind of cool when copying large videos off the phone
3) The car dock audio worked flawlessly via the USB cable, something I've been waiting in vain for Lollipop to fix, but to be honest I think it's a hardware limitation
I feel the same about the Note5 - everyone + dog has belabored the lack of SD card and removable battery, and while I wholeheartedly agree that these individually would be a deal breaker for me, the nail in the coffin is the lack of a Snapdragon processor.
Yes, yes the Exynos is a fine processor I'm sure but it feels as if all the development of ROMs is happening on the Snapdragon. I mistakenly bought the N910C Exynos version when the Note4 was first released and it took me about a week before I sold it, at a loss, to buy a Snapdragon variant - it just felt laggy, I couldn't find any hope that I'd ever be able to put CyanogenMod onto it. In short I hated it, and myself for not checking the model number before buying.
My Note 2 has served me well, but it's time to move on. The screen shows signs of burn in, and applications frequently crash due to (likely) faulty memory. Clearing the cache helps, but it's not something I want to do daily.
I'm looking for a similar phone with a pen/stylus, replaceable battery and mSD card support. Is the Note 4 the only option? Other than having a phone with no faults, what are expected to be the main benefits if I upgrade, and are there any regressions/drawbacks to consider?

wait a few weeks and see what the Note 7 have to offer ( it wont have removable battery though )
definately Note 7 - waterproof, with decent camera and audio, superb screen, sd card and many many more. I migrated to Note4 (DN5) from N3 and I'm waiting also for n7 as n5 is a crap (or beta version )
Lack of replaceable battery makes the Note 7 a non starter. When travelling I frequently use the phone for many hours without charging (on-foot navigation; tripadvisor etc) and I need it to be completely dependable. With a replaceable battery I just pop a new one in and I'm good for the rest of the day. I tried using a portable charger in the past, and hated how unwieldy it was compared to just spending 10 seconds to replace the battery.
The LG Stylus 2 Plus looks somewhat comparable to the Note 4 and is newer (Android 6, touch fingerprint reader), but seems to have a more limited stylus and lacks a physical home button (which I like very much in the Samsung, but I'm not sure lack of it is a deal breaker).
Thoughts?

If you are on a budget then yes the Note 4 is a worthy upgrade from a Note 2. As it's the last in Samsung's flagship line that had a removable battery. However if you have the cash to spend, wait and get the Note 7.
The Note 7 doesn't fit my requirements, regardless of cost (no replaceable battery). It seems I need to decide between the Note 4 and the much newer LG Stylus 2 Plus.

Yeah, the LG Stylus 2 Plus is a rather poor spec device. You are much better getting the Note 4 instead of that! As the stylus used in the LG Stylus 2 is just a regular capacitive stylus that you can get at any high street retailer.
Ok, so I'm probably getting a Note 4 later this week. A few questions to make sure I'm making the right decision:
1. Is it easy to root?
2. Do I need to worry about Knox?
3. Can I use it worldwide without an issue (roaming)? I've had no issues at all in this regard with my Note 2.
4. I can get the N910C variant for less money than the N910F. Is there any significant difference between the two? Note that I don't play games on my phone.

Edit: I can also get the Galaxy Note Edge SM-N915F for the same price as the N910F. It seems pretty cool, but getting a TPU case for it (which I like) seems to be impossible. Such cases are very easy to fine for the Note 4 and usually cost only a couple of bucks.
The N910C is much more stable than the N910F as the N910C uses the Exynos 5433 SOC rather than the Snapdragon 805 in the N910F. You can root it pretty easily both the N910C and F models have excellent worldwide coverage with the exception of specific US carriers.
It is possible to get TPU cases for the Note Edge I've seen them online.
When you say the N910C is much more stable do you mean the N910F tends to crash / freeze, or something else?
Bought the Note Edge eventually. I love almost everything about it, but there are some senseless regressions on the software side:
- No way to display Favorites (contacts) as a list. The thumbnail-based display uses tiny text for names and has them truncated.
- No way to display Apps as a list. The grid display is much slower to browse because the eye has to go in different direction to follow the correct alphabetization.
- Dialer log does not support long-press menu anymore. Makes it more difficult to add a number to the reject list or favorites.
Why cripple things that used to work so well?

The Note 4 is great. Since you have no interest in the Note 7, then you'll be completely fine with the N4. I upgraded from a Galaxy S5 and it feels like a completely new phone even though it released a long time ago. Marshmallow breathes new life into it.
