Thought it was going to be the 64GB for a bit, but Cam got that bit wrong. Now it's 32GB as expected.
Band 12 support for 700mhz LTE is pretty awesome too.

I was willing to get the 32gb any way so that's no problem for me
I'm hoping that they do a pre-order a few weeks in advance online like they're doing with the Xperia Z3. I don't want to have to go wait in line at the store to get my phone, but if I have to I most certainly will!
Are you sure it's only 32gb? I'm seeing discussions the this might be a T-Mobile exclusive or that there's a 32/64 option.

I know some people are adverse to it, but if you have Google Voice and you download the Hangouts Dialer app (with GV-Hangouts integration), you can have Wifi calling and texting built in well before the official Wifi calling app hits. I'm currently using it on my N5, and it works great, even on my super slow work wifi. People do have to call or text your GV number for it to work seamlessly (or port your # to GV), but it seems to be a good alternative for now.

The only problem is like you said, I'll need to use my Google number for it to work. I only use my WiFi calling to make/receive work calls at home since I get ZERO reception in my house.

I heard that the only model T-Mo would be selling is the 64GB model for the price of the 32GB model total.
Who here is hoping the price for it on contract will be at least $199 up front? Also as someone who used to work for T-Mobile I can try to answer some questions for T-Mo Nexus users?
So when they say that WiFi calling would enabled with an OTA, is that only if you bought the phone through them? So if I bought the phone directly from the Play Store and used my $30 prepaid SIM, I wouldn't get said update to enable it?
Is it better to get this through T-Mobile or buy from the Play Store? I don't have a plan with T-Mobile so I would be switching over. My current carrier is FamilyMobile.

That's actually a damn good question. We do not know if this update is solely for the T-Mobile Nexus 6 or for all models. For that fact if this is Google developing the update with T-Mobile or T-Mobile exclusively.

That said they will tie you in a contract to pay off that phone in increments of $20 dollars a month for 12 months (or anytime you feel like paying the rest off) until the device is payed in full. Rumors state that T-Mobile will be doing $27 a month for 12 months for this device so that is worth noting as well.
On the Play Store end it looks like it will be $650 straight out for basic model. To some that is fine but to others not wanting to drop all that down at once T-Mobile's way would make it very desirable for paying it off in increments. It really depends on your preference.

According to their press release HERE, it looks like it will be $0 down and $27/mo for 24 months if you go that route. I will most likely go with the $0 down option, as I currently have Jump for my N5 and am so glad that they're giving us the option to pay for the device in full over the full two years instead of having to put a big chunk of change down.

As far as I know, this is true. They won't let you do the payment deal over a certain amount. The iPhone 6+ was 850 and you needed 100 down to do do the payment deal. IPhone 6 was 750, no down payment. Note 4 is 750, no money down.
Hmm...I think I will just get the play store version then. I want 64GB. Although really I get by fine with a dual 32 GB USB (micro and A) stick with my 16 GB 2012 N7. I just use it for flashing ROMs, titanium, and TWRP backups.

Now, the other question of the day (and we probably won't know until pre-orders start) is whether TMO will carry the white version or just the "midnight blue" version. I was disappointed that I couldn't get the white N5 from them, but that was quickly solved by swapping out the back with a white OEM version from eBay. Fingers crossed for the white version AND the blue version so we at least have a little choice.

U.S. looks like it's coming to AT&T, according to FCC documents

How to tell when a Samsung phone will be coming out in the US:
Start with the European launch date and add the number of days you can reasonable wait for a launch. Add 6-8 months and they might be ready to release it.
So it sounds more reasonable to expect a 2nd quarter U.S. launch since it was announced in September in Europe. I sure hope it's sooner though. It clearly blows away every device I've ever had, including the hyped-up iPhone !!!
I'm going to try and wait till May at the latest, since the warranty on my iPhone 4 is up on June. I hate not being protected...So I'll get the Note from the UK if it's not released by then, then just get a square trade warranty on it.
Unless it is an "iphone" don't expect any release from at&t within 6 months of it being released to the rest of the world. AT&T sucks at releasing non iJunk.

When the SGS2 was FINALLY released, I walked into a corporate store to look at
one, and the sales drone said "I think we have one, but I don't care for android, I like the iPhone". Well, when you have sales people who think like that, what do you expect them to push you into? Plus, when AT&T sold their souls to get the iPhone, you can bet there was some under the table deal that keeps something that would stomp the iPhone into dust. And you can bet there is probably more profit on iJunk/accessories than any other phone.
I quit buying on contract with at&t last year with the Streak. It's expensive as hell to buy one out right, but, over the long run, you come out ahead. Plus, I'm still on the unlimited data...as long as I'm a good boy, or until at&t changes their mind again.

That's only true if the ETF($325 smart phone's) plus the contract price is higher then the retail price.
For the iPhone....The Retail price for the 4S 16GB is $650. So you are going to pay $200 on contract, and say you cancel the next month....that's a total of $525. Even if you include a $100 bill for the first month, that's still cheaper then buying a off-contract iPhone 4S!
It would make some sense if you got a lower monthly plan for not being on a contract, but fat chance on that. Instead, it's better to just buy on contract and let your potential ETF decrease by $10/month. When you want to leave ATT or get another phone, just sell it and buy another, you will be better off. The ETF is just there because the carrier is paying for a good portion of the phone for you.
This is still true for most Dumb Phones that are Free on contract. They can run $200 retail, and the ETF is $175..it's still cheaper to go with the contract, once again your monthly fee is the same, and the ETF decreases after each month on the network.
Now. I'm off contract on my iPhone 4. But that's because I get a cheaper monthly rate by being off contract. I use a iPad data only SIM in my iphone, which is the $30 Unlimited deal. The ETF after 16 months was $175...which is the cost for less then 3 months of service. I would be paying the Unlimited data sim anyway just to keep it...So this way I save a ton of cash.
Now if ATT get the Note...that's a $800 device! If ATT only asked $400 on contract that would still be quite the deal, as the Contract price plus the ETF would be $725...still cheaper then the unlocked retail version! And since ATT is what I would be using here in the US anyway, it really makes no sense for me to get the unlocked version. Now...if the Locked version does not have LTE, and does not work with my iPad SIM as my iPhone does, I may just bite the bullet and get the Internationale version anyway, that way I can go on using my data only device.(I use google voice for text and talkatone for voice, android has a Voip gmail google voice client as well)

If I sell my iPhone 3GS for $150-200 then it's only about $200-250 extra for the phone. Has anyone heard of a great place(s) or offer(s) for the Note, with a plan (since I need to extend my plan anyways)?
I'm going to call electroprise.com today and see what the real deal is ... it seems too good to be true. FYI, my current intention is to wait until the Note comes to AT&T and get it for $200 possibly (it may be $400 anyways !!!), but I would have to wait 6 months, which is a total bummer.

You can't get the Note from a US carrier yet. You will need to order international. Many have ordered from Handtec () without issue. They are currently shipping their second batch out. They have a choice of unlocked with no network logo or for slightly less, unlocked with a network logo on boot.

You won't be able to take advantage of the 3g or 4g network on T-Mobile with the International version of the note. It does not have the antenna and chipset for the lower frequencies used on the higher speed network. You will only get voice and 2g speed out side of Wi-Fi. The Korean version of the Note with LTE is being released very soon and will be using the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset (like the Galaxy S2 on T-Mobile). This will likely be compatible with T-Mobile's higher speed network.
The International Note can be used with ATT HSDPA network without issue and at full speed. Some are using the unlimited pay as you go, non-smartphone plan (I think it is called gophone) with the note. I believe it is ~$50/month. Since ATT can only check the IMEI number on units it sells, you should be able to use an unlocked, international Note with this plan without having ATT change your plan to a more expensive "smartphone", limited plan.

The iPhone is a "Smartphone for dummies" in my opinion. I used to hack the old XDAs/Windows phones a lot and I'm looking forward to doing it again with Android.

Yeah I saw the light XD. After experiencing what the Android can do(flash, bigger screen, better customization with ROMS and kernals,etc) I don't think I can go back to an iPhone. I've been loyal to having an iPhone since the first generation, the 4s is what threw me off the ship. Now I'm thinking about picking up a Note I thinking of picking it up from this guy http://www.ebay.com/itm/140636202852?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Exchange my Galaxy for an unopened one and resell it for $450, so minus that from $750 the phone will cost me around $300.
I'm not so sure about the website you posted, I haven't seen the Galaxy Note for less than $730. But what you can do is use your upgrade to buy an iPhone 4s 16gb for $200, resell for $650, sell your iPhone 3gs for maybe $150. WTF are you smoking that this plan makes any sense? The note is not an $800 phone, it is a $700 phone that would cost ATT much less than that (550-600) in wholesale price. So you think you are "getting a deal" when you are just getting screwed like everyone else who goes on a contract.

If I was you I would get a Galaxy S 2 instead.. Get it on att.. Galaxy Note is still very young in software updates.. Has to many issues.

I would have pre ordered but no carriers are selling handsets only. I have to get one from a carrier like Three because if you get a faulty one (always seem to get one) then they send you a new one at the same time of picking up the old one. There is nothing worse than having to send your phone back and waiting for them to test it and it ends up taking weeks to get a new one.

meeh, i dont mind waiting, but some of us have more than 1 spare phone available. others dont. so in that case, i'm right there with ya.
but on the other hand, $10 AT&T medianet is a no-brainer for me.. I'll buy an iPhone or an AT&T HOX on AT&T upgrade/contract for $199 and sell it on XDA MP or Craigslist for $600. That's $400 profit. International SGS3 is $700, less the $400 for the sold AT&T HOX. That's $300 out of pocket for an international SGS3.
Then take AT&T's 3gb data plan of $30 per month, multiply that by 24 and I get $720. VERSUS AT&T's medianet unlimited data plan for $10 per month, multiply by 24 and I get $240.
$720 minus $240 is $480. Take $480 and apply that towards the $300 you have left on the SGS3 after i've sold my AT&T HOX. I'm still out on top $180 (unless i did my math wrong, which im prone to do often lol)
This is my rational for getting an international SGS3.
I don't think LTE is even worth it atm as the speeds people are reporting aren't any faster than what I get over here on Three (UK network) using HSPA+ and not to mention it wont have as good coverage. Besides with a 3GB limit you have, what is the point in LTE? You'd get through it within an hour, here Three gives unlimited data and free tethering and that is much more important to me.

yea, im fine with HSPA+ speeds. I'm running LTE on Verizon, so I don't care much for AT&T LTE.
I do know that AT&T LTE in my area is really crappy right now too.

no. it can, it just wont get LTE. it'll remain on 3G bands.

But I belive a considerable amount of those pre orders are the people that preordered in different stores, different models (White/blue, 32gb/64gb)

Not 9 million pre orders but 9 million shipped to stores.
I'm not going to bother pre-ordering. Prices seems a little ridiculous to me.
But the more and more I think on wanting a 64GB device, I realize I don't need it with all the cloud storage I've got between Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, SugarSync, Skydrive PLUS I have all my music either on a 32GB microSD right now or accessible on google music.
I might just stick to a 16GB device. But $734 for one right now...seems kind of out there to me.
So, while I've 100% decided to finally get a new, better phone (I'm currently using a T-mob G2, albeit on 4.0.4), and I've decided on the Nexus 4, I'm having a hard time deciding where to get it from. I'm hoping the wisdom of the xda userbase can help me make an informed decision.
I've been a T-mobile customer since 1998, and I don't really see myself leaving anytime soon. I'm on a "classic" plan and due for an upgrade, so the 16GB N4 would be $199 (after mail-in rebate), versus $349 from the play store.
Are there *any* differences between the two models? Not hardware-wise, obviously, but software. Will the carrier version be just as easily rootable as the play store version? If I'll definitely be with T-mobile for the life of the contract, without even considering the ETF then, is there any benefit to getting the unlocked version? My G2 is sim-unlocked, but I haven't used that aspect of it at all in the last two years.

Hey John!
They are the SAME exact model. Both are unlocked. The one T-Mobile is selling, is the one directly from the play store, just at a lower on-contract price.

The phone will be carrier/SIM unlocked, even if you buy it from T-Mobile.

Hey the $199 cost is actually greater than if you simply bought the phone from the playstore or from tmobile for the value plan. The classic plan prices are much greater than the value plan, I would recommend getting the value plan where it will $200 upfront like the classic but you will pay the rest off monthly. Even with this cost added it is significantly cheaper than classic.

I definitely appreciate the advice, and while what you're saying true for most people, I'm not sure if it applies to me. I'm on a family plan that has different contract-end dates for each line; what I've gathered online, then, is that although I'm past the end of my particular line's contract, because others are not we'd have to pay a $200 "migration fee" to change to the value-type plan, which would be $10/month cheaper. The combined extra $150 from the play store (or $350 from the t-mob store) and $200 fee don't offset the $240 saved with the cheaper bill.
On the other hand, I haven't asked in person at a T-mobile store if I'm getting this all correct, and I could easily be wrong. If anyone knows for sure, they could chime in here to let me know I'm right or wrong!
EDIT: Plus, the rest of the family would then not get discounts on their eventual new phones if they were to want them.

Funny, but if you read through, it looks like if I'm planning to stick with the same (family) plan I have right now, it's probably cheaper for me to get it subsidized.
I wonder if you can go into the TMo and see if you can get the phone for the Play Store price.
I'd wait until the 13th and see.

Doubt it. There wouldn't be a real reason to sell a phone without a contract and discount it down $150. No incentive for the store, T-Mobile, sales reps. etc.
Guys i have a question maybe you guys can answer for me. THis is the first time me and my husband have been with a GSM network and i plan on getting the phone through play store BUT here is my question....
"what are you guys talking about when you mention classic plan and value plan? Does tmobile charge you $200 then the extra a month on a regular upgrade if your available for one? Im so confused and have seen this floating around quit a bit. Does it only apply to this phone or do they do this with every phone? with my past carriers i have been able to get a phone when available for an upgrade at the upgrade price without extra a month so i am just curious as to what all this means?" Can someone please explain this to me lol

If I am correct, when you purchase the phone under a value plan you pay $200 but then you also pay a monthly amount in addition to your plan until the phone is fully paid off. The monthly amount you pay in addition to the initial 200 will add up to Tmobile's price for the device without a contract. However if you purchase the device under the classic plan, you pay one flat fee for the phone and there is no additional cost to your monthly plan besides the first months upgrade fee ($35 I believe).

If you (and only you) got off your family plan, you could go to StraightTalk (still using T-Mobile's coverage, or AT&T's if you prefer) and pay $45/mo. for unlimited everything. Is that still more expensive than your portion of your family plan costs? Seems unlikely.

Oh wait, the site says 42. I HOPE THERE ARE NO DIFFERENCES because I will be buying it from the Play Store since I am on the poor family plan. Essentially I am saving $250.

I am pretty sure there are no differences between the devices! From all the articles I have read they seem to be exactly the same.
Any one know if they will be covered under insurane if bought from the play store? Wondering if the numbers match up so in case of an accident asurion wont weasel out as usual.

At first I thought they were the same and then I got confused because I read an article where a guy was mad because only T-mobile was selling it with their contract. Others had to get it thru Google Store. Then he complained that it didnt have LTE and that T-mobile one had HSPA+ 42, while the other only had HSPA+ 21. I dunno. I can't wait!
Hey guys, been reading a bunch of reviews and have been wondering about which phone to get for my upgrade. Coming from a T-Mobile G2 (HTC Desire Z), I've really been struggling between all the flagships like S3, Note 2, N4, and even the new Nokia. Some facts:
- I'm on T-Mobile Classic Plan, so an N4 upgrade would cost $200
- No, I don't plan on switching from T-Mobile any time in the near future
- I'm a student, so there is WiFi in 90% of the places I go
- I intend to use the phone primarily for texting, social media, and news
- I don't game on my phone and my music library is under 50 songs
- I am very satisfied with the build quality of my current phone, I have only dropped it 1-2 times in 2 years, but would prefer a phone that can survive a fall or two
- I want a phone that is built to last the next two years before I can upgrade again
If anyone who owns an N4 can tell me if it seems like a good fit for me, I would greatly appreciate it! Reading reviews and posts about specs like AMOLED vs. LCD and benchmarks really doesn't translate into real world use for me.
It seems like a good fit for you. I would just get a case to help project the phone.
Go Nexus 4 if you want the best Android ever built...and also for Development, mods, and etc if you love flashing roms by some of the best devs on xda we have it all here...
other than that go Note 2 its a beast just like the N4 but without all the extra I posted above....
You should probably know that the price is $199 down and 20 payments of $15. The phone will cost you $499.

Should last 2 years easily, as Google gives updates for a full 2 years. The hardware is top notch as well, so it won't lag behind. I certainly recommend the N4

It is? Huh. I thought the down payments applied for people on the Value Plan and the Classic Plan subsidizes the phone cost so you only pay the initial down payment. Could be wrong though.
Well, for $500 bucks ($300ish if I wait a month or so I suppose) a Nexus 4 doesn't seem nearly as attractive anymore.

I have nexus 4, note ii and siii with me. To answer your questions first thing you want to decide is, are you going to do lot of flashing and rooting and tweaking on your phone? If yes then stop thinking and get nexus 4 right away. There is no better option if you wanna do that. No need to even read further. If not then i would recommend note ii. There are multiple reasons for that. 1) you said you are not going to play lot of games on your phone. Note ii and nexus 4 are similar in many aspects but gpu. Nexus 4 gpu is much much better and hence much better gaming. As gaming is not your concern it would be fine... 2) You are going to do lots of texting, social media and news. In these cases bigger screen comes in handy. Also according to some reviews note ii performs much better with html 5 benchmarks than nexus 4. Also features like pop up browser and all comes in handy. Speaking from experience. 3) You are a student. S-pen might help you a lot for taking notes and all. 4) Nexus 4 has gorgeous build quality. But great things comes with great responsibility. you have to be careful with this device with glass on both sides.

I use both the phones. I have to have one working phone for my business and other reasons. And i also love to do all the rooting and flashing roms. I learnt the hard way not to do this on same phones. I love both phones for completely different reasons.

Forgot to add one thing. I am not anal about the displays and color rendering and all. I personally like note ii display. Not for colors and all. I am no professional or expert on all that. I just like bigger screen. Hehe..

I think it's mandatory when someone posts a thread like this for someone to suggest they go prepaid. I guess I'm that guy. So, why not go prepaid?
On the cheapest classic plan, you're paying $70 per month for 500 minutes and 2GB of 4G data. Over two years, that's:
$70*24 + 200 = $1,880.
If you want more minutes or data, of course you're paying more.
You can do Straight Talk and get a T-Mobile SIM card and pay $45 per month. Unlimited voice, uncertain amount of data but probably at least 2GB per month. You buy the phone from Google, of course.
$45*24 + 350 = $1,430.
If you don't like Straight Talk, you can try Solavei for $49 per month or possibly the new Go Smart mobile for $45. They offer at least 4GB of high speed data per month.
And if you end up not liking their service or network, you can switch to AT&T's network any time you want.
The savings are significant enough that I'd seriously consider waiting a month or two to get my phone.

Maybe? I'm not sure what the costs boil down to in the end, but I know that my whole family (5 people) is is on the Classic Plan with my father simply adding 4 other lines to his plan. I believe additional lines have significantly lower costs, but thanks for the heads-up, I'll check out the costs.
It seems like a good fit BUT you are wasting money staying on the classic plan, you'd be better off paying $300 for the phone and switching to the $30 prepaid or straight talk.
The build quality is better than the G2 by a good margin, I have a G2 and that hinge is janky, but don't expect the N4 to survive multiple drops without a case. The N4 will be the most up to date phone for the next 2 years, that is available today, you might be looking for something else in a phone but to me that was important.
I was fully expecting to spend $650 on a phone, I was going to buy the iphone 5 off contract and still will but it'll be 6mos from now, so I could have bought any of the flagship phones right now and IMO the N4 is the best choice out of the current crop of android phones.

With tmo usually the 2nd line is cheap to add ($10 or less) but on the 3rd/4th/etc line it is usually the same $10 add on fee plus whatever the data/texting costs are (for me to add a third unl data/taxting line was going to cost ~$50 total.) I would definitely sit down with your dad and see if tmo is really giving him the best deal a lot of people still aren't taking the long view with phone contracts (sure the phone is $200 to start but it costs you an exxtra $2k over the course of 2 years.) AND tmo charges you ~15% in tax, I negated that with a 15% plan employee discount but still with prepaid you can avoid it altogether.
It seems like a good fit for you.
The G2 is pretty old.. you'll have to get used to the lack of a physical keyboard (I used to have a Nokia N97 before switching to touchscreen keyboard).
Hm, if you like flashing roms and having the ability to customize your phone, then I would say N4 is a good fit. Since you're on a classic family plan then having one additional line is just $10 more plus data (do you have family texting bundle?). If you don't mind putting more money down, then I would suggest to not buy it not from t-mobile as it's the exact same phone as what google offers, but the price is so much higher. As long as you don't mind with dealing with buying from third parties. You can either save your upgrade for when the iphone 5 comes out and perhaps resell that at a higher value, or to get something like galaxy s3 now to resell. Also, if you speak with a tmobile loyalty rep over the phone, you may be able to get a phone for less than the standard price since you'll be upgrading.
The N4 definitely has a nicer feel to it, though I don't know how well it will survive against falls due to the front and back glass. But.. you stated you rarely drop your phone so that's good .
i think jalshah05 makes some pretty good points when it comes to the note ii. i mean you get the best of both worlds or a tablet and phone. i had an s3 and it was awesome........until i accidentally dropped it face first onto concrete the day before i was about to sell it. =(
i was able to get a hold of the N4. aside from at&t not recognizing the phone officially and not getting the 4g speed i was paying (i finally switched over and get out of at&t), it's a pretty solid phone. you just have to be careful if you don't have a case since the glass could crack if dropped (some people reporting that). i guess the big thing is that you'll always have first dibs on any android updates that come out. if you like to flash different roms, i guess that won't make much of a difference.
but i'm like you. i don't game much. mainly for texting, calling, web surfing, social media, random internet apps (like looking up movies or sports scores) and i couldn't be happier.

I have a 6P and will likely be going with the Pixel (non XL) upon release. I caved in and got the 6P last year even though I hate phablets, and although it's an amazing phone, I still find it too big to this day. 5-5.2" is my sweet spot. Will buy from play store directly like 6P and N5 before, easier this way especially for warranty imho, unless Videotron in Quebec (likely) or Fido/Virgin/Koodo (unlikely) have it at launch as they all have decent 6GB/60$ BYOP plans ; not Bell/Rogers/Telus.
I'll sell my 6P (pretty sure I can get 300$ for the 32GB still under warranty) so that should offset the, I assume, 750$ish price range for the smaller Pixel. The only major turn off for me is front facing speaker ; I will really, really miss those, especially if the bezels are as thick as the leaked renders/pictures (I'M SURE THERE IS ROOM GOOGLE, WHY? :'( )
And the phone better be f'ing amazing at that price (or really nice at a more decent 600$ish price).*
If the price starts at 650USD which in Canada means 845CAD$ + tax = 975CAD$ I'm out.

How much is your monthly plan?
Only $12 more than previous contract for Nexus 5 two years ago, which completed by chance in September.
Cell and data bills in Canada are crazy, though. I support openmedia.ca 's efforts.
Total though, $80? I would imagine half of that would go to pay the phone off.

Just ordered my Pixel. Added a new line to my account (Telus) and the phone was 0$ .. Already have 6gb shared data.. so a new plan is 84$ a month taxes included. So it cost me 17$ (sim cost) to order this phone. And comes with 100$ Google play credit!

My monthly bill for the last 2 years was only $12 less then this. I am glad it is not free if the change in bill would be lots higher and it would cost me lots more in long run.
$12 x 24 months + $200 = $488 Pixel at end of contract. Compared to $1033 as someone saw, it is a good deal for me.
Just preordered it from bell for 399 on a 2 year contract. Can't wait for it to come. I think this phone will definitely be worth it.

I pre-ordered 2 black 128GB's yesterday from Rogers for $329 each. The demand for the phone doesn't appear to be that high though judging from my position in the line-up -- I'm 47 in the line-up, and that's after placing my order one week after the device was announced...
With Rogers, if you pre-order, you get 2GB of data extra to add to your plan for 12 months, a free Chromecast and a $50 Play Store credit. And that's per device. Not bad.
