So i see google is updating the 5.0 images this friday, whats the ballpark guess as to when our Moto's see the OTA update? Im on Verizon and I know Verizon takes their sweet time with getting updates out to their phones but this should be a pretty quick update seeing we are pretty much stock...no?

They said in the coming weeks for the Nexus devices, so it's likely to be 2-4 weeks before the Pure Edition alone see's an update. Those updates then have to make it through your carrier (and you have the worst) before it makes it to your phone. 1 to 2 months is probably optimistic.

Verizon... I'm guessing February. Timeline for Motorola on Verizon should be about the same as for Samsung on any other carrier.

.....Verizon. Hopefully we will get unlocked bootloader before February. Knowing Lollipop is out there I the fact that Verizon has the power to give it to me is going to drive me crazy. I lived with an unlocked, rooted, custom ROM phone for way too long.
I wouldn't count on an unlocked bootloader from Verizon ever. I switched to AT&T and a Pure Edition because of Verizon's iron fist policies.

So the first update was a timely update. Maybe we can expect the update to 5.0 to be quick and then subsequent updates take a bit longer.
Id be shocked if the pure edition got it in less than a month. Much longer for verizon as always.

The developer edition moto x received android 4.4 before it even reached some nexus devices last year. Motorola doesn't have to do much to tweak around the software, it is just the carriers that take forever to approve of the update. I assume Motorola pretty much has a final build of 5.0 ready to go already, they are just waiting on the green light from google. Samsung has already leaked their 5.0 test build online showing off the "new" features it has to offer. Samsung's build looks absolutely horrible, still bogged down by the useless bloat.
If I remember correctly, wasn't the Verizon Moto X 203 the first to get KK other than the Nexus line?

I don't remember where so unfortunately I'm unable to provide you a source link but they have already provided an update last year to moto x first gen after the nexus 5 receive it, but before nexus 4.
They told us they want to do the same this year, which means after nexus 6, but before nexus 5.

It was but that is a rare instance due to the fact that the Nexus had some encryption issue that they had to fix. It was really down to Motorola to make that happen, not Verizon. In general, Nexus get it first.
For a more correct overview of Verizon. Android 4.2 was released for the GSM Galaxy Nexus on Nov 13th 2012, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus got it 5 months later in March 19th, 2013.
The Verizon 2013 moto x was the first non nexus device to receive kit kat. You guys are being a little harsh on Verizon here. I know their track record is rather poor when it comes to getting updates to phones, but the 2013 moto x was by far the fastest updated phone on Verizon, even faster than the galaxy nexus.
Personally I have high hopes that we will see lollipop in the third or fourth week of November.

No they stated there would be new preview images and SDK for the Nexus devices. Not the official OTA.
my only concern is vzw losing interest on the X in favor of the turbo. they barely had anything for the X before and even on release day, they have an entire webpage countdown for the turbo.

Not a surprise. Turbo is theirs - they own the brand and control the device much more closely than the X. That, and the fact that the Turbo hardware is what the X should have had.

no ETA...
I've been looking at Punit Soni's Google + account, there is no ETA.
He told me that we have to wait for qualcomm to update the binaries and drivers for the Soc/radios, and then they will update, first unlocked/dev editions, then branded ones.
there is no timeframe, but samsung will update the sgs3 (the US version has the same chipset) in late Q1
http://www.android.gs/samsung-galax...e-to-arrive-by-the-end-of-march-says-insider/
as far as ive seen, they will bring kitkat to last years phones, then 2012 phones.
so IMO, i think it will be april/may if you have a phone on contract...
alas, i think its the last update it will receive.
i asked him if they would dump the kernel like they did on the moto x and moto g and they will do so for the xt926 developer edition.
so once KK rolls out, expect better custom ROMs...
Read a nasty rumor that the '13 models (Ultra, Maxx, Mini) were receiving the OTA and many phones were bricking. Moto stopped the OTAs on those phones to figure out what was wrong, so we might have slightly longer to wait then originally planned...
Seriously, why so long? This seems absurd even for Verizon.

Yes. Sprint got it a month ago.
I was thinking that it was taking abnormally long too, but since AT&T and T-Mo haven't gotten it yet, it makes me wonder. Especially since part of T Mobile's Note 4s have it and the others don't. (The ones with a different model number have them, but the original model numbers don't.)
Perhaps they are fine tuning stuff for the Qualcomm models and used Sprint as a guinea pig since Sprint barely has any subscribers anymore, it probably makes a great lab rat!

It is quite possible they are just going straight to Marshmellow. T-Mobile announced 6.0 update soon, perhaps AT&T and Verizon are doing the same.

I don't think so! I believe that we won't get 6.0 update in 2015. It's most likely that US carriers (VZW, ATT, TMB, and USC) will follow the international variants and push 5.1.1 update in 2015 (probably, it's due in October) and wait too long for the next big thing (M) sometime in 2016, after releasing it for the 2015 flagships (S6 and its family) in the next few months. However, I hope you're right.
Verizon always seems to be last and not fair to the older phones in the cue. To me we paid out our cash way before the S6 owners , no offense. I think the S4 will be the cut off so, why not be fair and start from that. Verizon, at least on the phone and in the stores, always bring up loyalty, show it!
But I wonder if it has anything to do that Verizon is a CDMA system

Leaks seem to be a thing of the past...rarely see them anymore. The 2 new nexus devices won't ship for another 3-4 weeks and that is more or less the official unveiling of 6.0, even though other Nexus devices are getting updates starting now. Then about a month after that you will see other devices getting updated. Samsung has to incorporate TW, HTC has to incorporate Sense 7, LG - LG Home, so those will take a little longer.

I read some carriers in Canada are receiving 5.1.1 on Note 4 via OTA.
AT&T got it today. I'm guessing T-Mobile will be next and We'll get it in January.
Looks like Motorola DID write the updates, but it's AT&T and VZW holding them back
http://www.wi-fi.org/product-finder...sort_order=desc&keywords=XT1096,XT1097,XT1095
The updates went to the WiFi Alliance for certification. Maybe AT&T and VZW will stop dragging their feet and let us have it.

So they can sell you a new phone of course same reason batteries are no longer user replaceable. Carrier greed.
I'm guessing this is still part of the story. Pure speculation, but perhaps Moto offered the stock updates, the carriers said OK, now go add all this bloat and test that everything still works, and Moto said we don't have the resources to test your bloat... I have no idea, but I'm guessing there is more to it that just what we know.
I think Motorola hands the software over to the carriers and they add and test it. I'm thinking that there is something to an agreement to sell a particular phone that guarantees a certain number of updates or something like that and that agreement is up for the 2014 Moto X with the carriers.
So in that case Motorola can make the update but the carriers aren't obligated to release it.
Sent from my XT1095 using XDA Free mobile app
If this is the case, why hasn't the Pure Edition/XT1095 gotten the update? It seems odd to me that they would willingly hold up an update for the XT1095 so that they could release it at the same time as the carrier versions of the phone... My guess (just a guess) is that they might still be working on stability with some of the Moto features when run on Marshmallow.
What we don't know is if Motorola is testing an update now. The testing for 5.1 took months, with multiple builds pushed out the test group from what I understand.

Maybe it's just me (I very well could be hallucinating) but I've always noticed that before I get an update my battery life gets a tad wonky. It's gotten to the point where if I go a few days where my battery dies more quickly than usual I'm like "Wait, are they going to push an update, soon?"
Again, I could be hallucinating. :silly:
This changes everything and makes it a totally avoidable PR disaster. Everyone was ready to lynch Motorola for not updating the carrier versions. The fact that Moto didn't speak out about the carriers blocking it is fascinating and I can't figure out why they'd do it., since they don't really need carriers anymore as they sell everything unlocked, unless maybe they still put them in retail locations or if they have enterprise deals for backend systems. Either way if this is true, Motorola is jumping on a grenade to save someone else.
We'll see how the rest of the life cycle of these phones goes, but maybe I can buy another Moto after all. If they keep punctual updates coming, maybe a black friday 2016 X is in my future.
People should stop bashing phone manufactures when it's usually the carriers fault for the lack of updates. This is very typical in the US where AT&T and VZW are the biggest blame since they control the major herds.
Phone manufactures provide the updates, but it's up to carriers (and their carrier branded phones) to decide if they want an older phone to receive an update or just fool mindless sheep and let them them buy a new phone if they want the latest and greatest. Simple as that.
Also.... Welcome to the consumer era! Where anything is old the next day! Why spend precious time on old hardware when they can sell you a new fancy phone for the same price or twice as much?! You know you can't say no to that if you're technologically impaired!

I have a MM ROM on my tablet and I really don't see what the fuss is about. The Moto X 2014 is still a great phone. MM doesn't bring anything really new to the table. I'd much rather have root than an OTA.
For me I was hoping that the MM update would finally fix the bluetooth/wifi issues that have plagued this phone since I got it.

Does anyone have any idea as to when the XT1575 version of the Moto X Pure Edition will receive Android 6.0.1? I know the XT1572 version has received it, how much of a difference can there really be between those to.
Not much as many of us are running it now. You know as much as anyone here when it will be released.
I agree that it is irritating as it is almost exactly identical. Especially considering that there is no carrier control involved... Not directly that we can see anyway. With so many US phones being carrier controlled though, I imagine the focus is put into international models first. Hoping that North American carriers will start losing their grip on locked out devices.

Seriously though, pretty frustrating that Motorola/Lenovo is taking so long to update their last "flagship" device. I realize they are working on their new 2016 models, but come on, if Samsung is beating them at updates, that is pretty sad.
The price has dropped to $349 on the Motorola website for the 32GB model..
