EDIT:
Just went to the Sony store and pre-ordered my Xperia Z3. The price is $599 off contract!!!
That's $200 cheaper than the Z2.
Sony must be feeling the heat from the competition. IMO this is a steal and worth buying now for sure.

it shows Z3C on your receipt. I think it means Z3 Compact not Z3? But how can you pre-order a Z3C in canada... anyways, I may go to sony store and check it out:highfive:
Just an update:
Sony Store is selling this for $699. It was an error on their part selling me the Z3 Compact instead of the Z3.
However: Rogers will be selling the Z3 for $599 unlocked and Sony Store will price match so as soon as Rogers has their pricing live (only leaked for now) we should be able to get the discount.

That's good to know though I think Rogers' price is $599 off contract, not unlocked. I was thinking of getting it from Rogers to save the $100 (and I found one site that will unlock the phone for $17 CDN).
The only downside about getting it from Sony is that you can't return the phones according to their return policy. All sales are final unless it is defective. At least with Rogers I can try the phone out for 2 weeks to see if I like it or not.

You can unlock any GSM phone you want for a price. If you want Rogers to unlock it, they will charge you $50. I found a third party site (never used them before) that charges $17.
If you buy the phone outright, Rogers has to unlock it with no delay if you ask for it according to the CRTC Wireless Code. If you buy it on contract, they can make you wait up to 90 days before unlocking it.
(See F 1 at the link: http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/info_sht/t14.htm)
If I end up getting one from Rogers I wouldn't pay their fee to unlock it though as I'll try the other site I found for $17. Of course, if Sony price matches Rogers, then you can buy it unlocked from Sony and save the unlocking fee. The only downside is no return policy with Sony.

According to some comments at mobilesyrup, the 'no term' price at Rogers will be $599 but the 'no contract' price will be $649.
Not exactly sure what the difference would mean. I guess for someone with no Rogers account, you'd be stuck paying $649 (meaning if Sony PM's Rogers, then that would be the price you could get it for), but if you have a Rogers account, you should still be able to pick it up for $599, no?. Just say you are adding the phone to your existing plan and walk away with it? As long as they don't mandate an increase if you monthly plan, that would still be okay.

Ah, sorry. You probably already found this but I did a search on Google and Sony's web site has the instructions to unlock the bootloader. They state 'certain releases' can be unlocked:
http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/
There is also this page as well:
http://developer.sonymobile.com/2014/07/14/sonys-unlock-boot-loader-service-now-improved/
But I don't know if the Rogers one will be one of those 'certain releases'. Sorry. Maybe someone else can confirm.

$600 on ebay for limited time

I bought my phone from this seller. I bought mine for $650 and he promptly raised the price to $700 after selling abut 20 units. Now he has a new listing where ebay is subsidizing it by $100 so you can still get it for $600.
Probably not something you want to see... but I guess expected with Sony's update schedule... Don't know if that changes anyone's intention to buy...

I called customer care today and found out the following.
2 year contract - $199.99 (nothing new)
1 year contract - $299.99
no contract - $439.99
There's also a partial discount for early upgrades, but I forgot what she said. I was too shocked by the no contract price.
Pre-orders begin July 15th.

Plus, you got 8gb and a front-facing camera. And no carrier logos.
someone just posted this in another forum but it confirms the $439 for a "basic" upgrade price
anybody know what a Basic Upgrade is?

PS just spoke to Tmo CS and there is some sort of contract involved with the $439 price but the CS rep covered so much material (you'd think it wouldn't be that complicated) that i gave up trying to make sense of what she was explaining
but the sheet at the above link is apparently valid, she had it in her system

*Nevermind*
Wow, that's less that £300, I may have to get one of them for the lady since I'll be out there in a couple of weeks.
i'll still pay the xtra premium price to get it now, and have the factory unlocked 16 GB version, than having the localized carriers version of the phone, with 8 GB or less.
Too bad the version with the keyboard is only for CDMA networks

Both the TMobile and ATT versions have 16GB.
Also I believe if you're out of contract they will unlock it for you anyway... Or you can pay someone $10 to do it OTA.
I think what'll hurt TMobile's sales more than anything is ATT's $350 no-contract pricing on the Captivate.

If you've been a customer for 6 months or greater I believe they'll unlock your phone without any questions.
As for ATT's $350 price. I'll believe it when I see it on their order page and an order is actually shipped. The $350 came from an AT&T employee answering a question. Who knows where they got their information from. Seems like a case of misinformation just like T-mobile when they had it listed for $329.

When you pay the full price Yes it is locked, you have to ask them to unlock it. and if you run into some new guy tell him your in and out of the country regularly.
I have not had a sim locked phone in 3 years, I do it all the time.
If your worried about it, ask before you buy.

I've confirmed it like three different days with them... Seems to be good so far.
so if i were to buy this phone for the $200 2yr contract price, and i had a $100 credit, would i be getting it for $100? i know this is a stupid question, but i've been scouring the net looking for a price for current customers. and if i could confirm the $100 price, i'd pretty much induce a coma until thursday so i wouldn't have to wait.
You don't have a $100 credit, you have a $100 credit LINE. That means you can pay $100 down and three payments of $33.
Also, No Contract price is $499! Quit spreading misinformation.

I have been looking for sites where I can buy the North American version of this phone unlocked. Any recommendations for trust worthy sites with good prices?
I prefer to get it unlocked rather than just off contract because of the problems G2 users have been having sim unlocking some of their phones.
Figured I would list the sources here for anyone else who is looking:
Bell (you need to sign up for a plan)
negrielectronics.com
sntradersonline.com
Best Buy Canada (need to pick up in store, but only $499)
If any more are posted I will update the OP.

Hi Anomaly,

your pick of buying from Bell and then unlocking or some factory unlocked options
Thanks for the replies. I am indeed looking for the NA version and I need the phone shipped to New York.
Bell won't let me order it from them without getting a plan sadly.
negri has it cheaper than SN Traders but it is still $100 more than a G2. We don't have any 3G in Barbados, where I live, but I was hoping to get a Desire Z since I am fairly confident that when we do, it will be on AT&T bands. I don't think that speculation + being able to make the phone brand free are worth the extra $100 though, unless I can find a price closer to Bell's I will just buy the G2.

I will be traveling to the US in about a week, I want to buy a Focus and was wondering if I will be able to do it without having a contract with At&t..
I'm willing to pay the "No Commitment Pricing" of $500+taxes but I don't know what kind of requirements they impose to the actual purchase of a device in the store.
Anybody has info on this?

Your best bet is Best Buy if/when they get the phone, I think.
When I bought my Focus today in an official AT&T store, they mentioned I would have to purchase some sort of contract to "get the phone today". I didn't mind since I was planning to, but it felt to me like it was a necessity...
Anyone else have problems buying off contract? I used my upgrade on an iPhone 4 and wanted to buy this for the full retail price today.... Hopefully I don't run into any problems =/

phew... load off my mind. now i can sell off my samsung captivate without worrying the whole day if i did it for nothing. THANKS
I got the phone when the stores open in Columbus, OH on the 8th. There were 4 of us in line there. The other 3 were Microsoft employees. Two bought the focus, one the HTC. All bought them with NO contract. Infact I think one guy paid for all three of them lol. I'm pretty sure since you can order them online with no contract for $499.99 at ATT.com that a contract is not needed.
I walked in and out of a official att store with a focus.
Buy it @ at&t stores should be no problem at all. The biggest problem is to get it unlocked.

You can't buy the Samsung Focus off contract currently. AT&T will sell it outright ($499 + tax), but they will only sell it to you if your an existing on-contract customer or you sign up (with a minimum term). I've already been to AT&T and tried, apparantly my money is not good enough there. I'm not sure how people in the US put up with this rubbish. Either way, the only way to get a Samsung Focus in the US at the moment is to sign up at AT&T.
I've also been to Best Buy, but they only stock the HTC Surround, which I won't buy due to it not having a microSD slot.
I'm currently an AT&T customer who just renewed my contract for another 2 years for the iphone 4. So they'll be able to sell me one full retail price, right?

EDIT: I just confirm this, you can buy without a plan!
Most online site still need to verify your status with AT&T (at least that's the policy with Letstalk.com). Stores don't like to sell phones without contract because there is no money to be made (monthly service charges).

Amazon.com doesn't have Focus in stock. In fact, it only briefly showed up in like 10 seconds before it was sold out @ 11/8.
You go to Dell online and buy any phone on any carrier in the US and some unlocked Nokia's without a contract and in some cases the prices are pretty good...I have a Streak AND a Nokia N8 on the way lol. Best buy always charges more for off contract phones than carrier off contract price since they want people to only buy contract phones. They only get commission by selling contracts not by selling off contract phones.
OP - not sure if you thought this is a deal, this is the worst possible price you will pay for the carrier phone even off contract.
Edit: I remember buying Nexus S from Best Buy and the sales guy was like looking at me on why the heck I'm spending $550 on an off contract phone. He was trying to push me to buy a contract phone, I laughed off, bought my nexus s and walked off happily

I wasn't able to do it online, when you click the "no committment" option is stated just in-store. There was no way I could add the phone without contract to my cart online, it would always prompt to add a plan/etc.
No-Commitment Pricing
You may purchase a new AT&T phone without a contract at the no-commitment price. This non-discounted equipment purchase option does not require a two-year contract or other long-term service commitment. No-commitment equipment pricing is available to customers that are not on a prepaid or GoPhone® plan. You can purchase a phone at no-commitment prices at AT&T retail stores. For an AT&T retail store near you, visit our store locator.

Oh come on.. I was at Canada 2 weeks ago (Vancouver).. lol.. damn it.. if it was $300 when I was there, I would have probably bought it. But $300 + crazy Canada tax and currency, it might be similar to Google Play I think?
Not to take the thread off topic (somewhat) but I just checked the Rogers site for a comparison sake of the price and the phone isn't even listed on there any more. I am shocked that they took it down while they still have the SII on their site. I guess sales must of been pretty bad if they took it down.
Yeah both Rogers and Telus have taken it down i guess people don't want to get a $600 device that sells for $300 and I doubt they want to sell a unlocked phone.
Also yeah I think you have to go to a store to get this I doubt they ship but hey it's a good deal for canadians who live in large metro areas
Picked one up.
It is unlocked.
They won't ship. You must get a plan with the phone, but since it is month to month I'm sure you can cancel in the first month. With tax and the first month of 25 dollar service it was 370 or so.
So the unit I got has that problem where certain shades of grey are purple tinted. As I understand I need to root to get it to 4.1.
Phone comes with 4.0.1.

Yeah it's a little more expensive then the play store one but in Canada they aren't sold in the play store.
Also yeah ours are on a NON Yakju build so you manually have to flash it over to receive OTA updates
No Thanks
