[Q] Unable to send sms after flashing custom rom - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After trying to flash a few custom roms (CM, AOKP) on my CSPIRE S5, I realized that I have service, but cannot send any sms messages. Im not sure if its because the rom I am using is not meant for cspire devices or im doing somethinf wrong. Im sorry im a noob, its my first android phone after switching from an iPhone 4s. Thanks in advance

You probably need to input new APN (access point name) into your network settings. You should be able to find them and a guide on your network providers website or Google.
Check in the Settings > More networks > Mobile networks > Access Point Name
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tweakker

The app does not have my carrier listed and a Google search for my apn yielded results but they didn't work.

Hi,
APN settings are used for MMS messages and Internet access. It does not affect the SMS function.
SMS setting is just the SMS Center Address, that is stored on your SIM card (not on your phone), so typically it will not be affected by changing a ROM.
Try the following:
1- Put the SIM card into another phone and test SMS, to make sure your SMS function works fine.
2- On your Android phone, download another 3rd party SMS app (e.g. GO SMS...) to see if it works?

Sms works fine when I restore back to stock TouchWiz though. If I use a 3rd party messenger can I keep my number

That means the custom rom has the problem with the SMS app.

[Q] Evo on Boost How To Enable True MMS??

Hello all. I have an Htc evo on the boost network. Everything works well. The problem is the mms messaging. When I get an incoming mms message it goes to this website for.boost mobile called media mail. I have to log into the site to get my pictures...its really annoying. I just had an Htc hero flashed the same way and it gets true mms messages right to the phone. Is there a way to fix the boost media mail issue so that the mms messages go diregctly to my Evo?

i have evo on boost and had the same problem. what i did was use root explorer and deleated mms apk and mms odex from system/app, then download go sms from the market, copy that from data/app to system/app and my mms works perfect now. i would suggest downloading android mate from the market, use this to stop and locate the name and where the app is at on your phone before going into root explorer. ps google free root explorer. after placing go sms in your system/ app folder download handcent from market. this is going to be the mms. app that you are going to use to veiw the mms on your phone, turn off all notifications in go sms so that you don't try to open with go sms.
you may need the right apn...i sent them to my friend and it fixed his problems using apn backup/restore
Can you email me your apn because I have calls and sms working but no data or mms please help! Email me at [email protected]
@calvinfla, i did all of u said to do and it doesnt work. still get that 9000 media message from boost. did u do exactly what u said or maybe forgot something? let me know, pls that 9000 message is urrrrrrr.
I believe the MMS server is "mm.myboostmobile.com". The other poster had it as "mm.myboostmobile.sprintpcs.com" I couldn't send or receive until I changed it and it worked right away after I changed the server.
I have changed the server to http://mm.myboostmobile yada yada and still am not able to send MMS. I have received them and data is working, just need the ability to send. Any ideas?
I am on the 1/11/2012 Energy rom with Sense 3.5
That ROM does not have EPST capability. Are you certain you changed the MMS server?
Did you change it on that ROM or did you changed it once and then flashed to that rom? Reason I'm asking is because just because you changed it once doesn't mean it sticks after you flash a few roms or whatever.
If you want to stick with a Sense 3.5 rom and want to send MMS, the only way I've found that would work short of editing code in the Mms.apk (pretty freaking hard and takes some time) is to download GOSMS Pro (free app in the market).
Once you download that app, go to your regular messaging app settings and disable notifications on it. (if not, you'll get double notifications and that gets annoying)
After that, find this setting in GoSMS Pro...
Once you do that, scroll down and put in these settings....reboot and that's it!!
Yep, that's why I asked. It's the only way I know of also on 3.5 Sense Roms. So if you flashed that ROM the MMS server is set for Sprint NOT Boost.

Yeah is been a while since I've been on sense roms BUT last time I was on sense it was a sense 3.5 rom and it was ported over from a GSM phone so it didn't have EPST working. I don't know if that's the case NOW but the way I provided above is a sure bet with ANY rom out there for boost users!
I've heard of people using an old EPST.apk from sense 1.0 or whatever but that's a 50/50.....it never worked for me, hints the reason I'm on AOSP roms now!
Any more tips or whatever for boost...hit me up through PM!!

I am also looking for hints for boost and I have tried out a few other roms but didn't have luck installing CM7 which is the one I wanted to try. Can't remember why it wouldn't install right now though.

well, so far so good, I guess I have to use go sms for text/mms if I want to use Sense 3.5.
What are some better rom options? I like this one because most of the features work, didn't discover this until recently and HDMI isn't working but that is about it.

Correct one is http://mm.myboostmobile.com - worked for me great both ways with sense rom and gosmspro on boost mobile.
I have the same issue...
I was running Cyanogen 7 for about 8 months with now issues, everything worked flawlessly, till I flash Stock Rooted Rom 3.30.651.3-deodex-20110712-signed.zip...I just wanted to try something new, you know...well, it didn't go as planned. For some reason my phone got Verizon NAMs files or NV items somehow... or I really didn't pay attention to the ROM...but I have never used Verizon before so that was weird...so I flashed back to 4.54.651.1-deodex-20120104-signed and everything was working just fine after that except battery wasn't that stable...remember I wanted to try something new so I wanted the newest Rooted Stock Rom, so I flashed the 3.30.651.3-deodex-20110712-signed ROM again...everything worked as planned for a day and some, but today I get MSM errors...
"SMS Error
SMS Error: Message to not sent, Saved in Undelivered messages.
Please try again."
I cant get the EPST ##3282# to come up...whats up with that?...so I cant configure MMS URL to http//:mm.myboostmobile.com
Everything else is working just fine though.
This is what I got right now:
Android Ver: 2.3.5
Baseband Ver: 2.15.00.11.19
Kernel Ver: 2.6.35.10-g4b48446
Sftware/Build #: 4.67.651.3
PRI Ver: 2.15.003
prl vER: 61007
Any help is greatly appreciated.

i really feel like throwing my phone though the wall. whenever i flash any rom i can't send a text even with data. so i have to use stock rom which is boring af to me. anyone got any sollution b4 i get an iphone 5c??????????????????????????????????????
What carrier are you on? It's probably because the ROMs you are trying do not include the proper APN settings for your carrier.

I'm on t mobile and it's roms I used to run as my daily driver they started acting up all over a sudden.

SMS does not required data plan. MMS does need data so make sure the APN is correct.
Disable voice+ ?
I asked about a similar issue (couldn't send SMS messages) with CM10.2 in a thread earlier today and someone pointed out to me that I needed to disable/freeze the Voice+ app that has been included in recent ROMs if I was in a country where Google Voice didn't work like the UK. After doing this, it was possible to send SMS messages.
In the US it may be necessary to edit its settings to get texts going via the usual SMS route.

Also make sure the "service center" number is correct. It's the number your sms get routed through by T-mobile.

[Q] messages, or google hang out with crashing upon sending or receiving an s_m_s msg

thank you in advance. I have an LG g2 d802 which I purchased through Amazon. The phone was working perfectly in the US with AT&T. I then brought the phone to Venezuela where I tried using SIM cards from two different carriers. With both carriers I have the same problem. When sending or receiving an SMS message, whichever app I have set as the default app crashes with no way to send a report, just a dialog box saying the app crashed. I tried wiping the phone from the phone's settings user interface, as well as installing t w r p and wiping from that. I have tried 2 different firmwares for the 802 which I found on the internet, with different version numbers of the system, and still the same problem. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could still try at this point to get messaging working?
Thanks
Greg
wow! No one has any suggestions? Anything would be appreciated!
Can you logcat it maybe? Try to pull out your simcard, flash the right kk basebands flash the rom and reboot and reinsert the simcard again maybe it works normally then. I will think of some ideas and i will repost it here again.
Maybe you need to do some build.prop modifications to set the region or what. Does your phone says to which cellular network is connected?
thank you so much! The phone has no sim card, and you can't pull the battery. I did install wildcat and I'm seeing a lot of errors relating to the telecommunications database not being available. Now I'm seeing things like 08-22 12:01:32.128 E/DatabaseUtils(1583): ¿at com.android.providers.telephony.MmsSmsProvider.getThreadId(MmsSmsProvider.java:1332)
thanks again for the reply. I believe the phone was originally from Singapore as it had SingTel apps on it. I have tried flashing a few stockroms from other regions but nothing has worked. I'm going to have to read up about the KKbuild and build prop as those are new terms to me.
Update - I tried using build prop editor to change the locale region from u_s to venezuela and it keeps default thing back to u_s. Maybe this is part of the problem? I did use the phone on a_t_&_t network before bring it to venezuela.

yes my phone does show the network it is connected to, and I can make calls just fine and I can even use the data connection. there are two carriers here in Venezuela for which I have SIM cards, with one of the carriers I am able to receive the carrier's SMS messages which show my remaining prepaid credit, but other messages from other sources crash the messaging app. With the other SIM card I have, even the messages from the carrier crash the messaging apps. So with one carrier it almost works.
I'm in a part of the country with very poor internet but in early September I will have good access and can download roms etc and can follow the instructions you gave me. Thank you! Greg

Thank you so much! That did it! What's interesting is that before installing that app my phone would not automatically get the APN information from the sim cards. I had to enter it manually. After installing the app now the phone gets the APN information from sim cards. So not only does installing that app fix the problem with messaging crashing, but it restore is the proper interaction with the sim cards. Obviously that app contains something that's missing from the stock l_g firmware.

Phone won't send (but can receive) MMS

Hey all. I've had my Galaxy S4 for about a year now, and I've installed a plethora of custom roms. I'm currently running stock touchwiz on my device. I've noticed that my device can receive but not send MMS message. This has been an ongoing problem for several months and I haven't been able to figure it out. Before I switched to stock 4.4.2, I couldn't even get MMS messages, and today my co-worker sent me a successful MMS. But I still can't send them. I don't have an APN settings option in my settings, so I updated my profile etc. through my Sprint Zone app. I'm completely lost and have noooo idea how to get my MMS messages to send. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey bryguy9021, thanks for the reply. I tried opening voice dialer and speaking APN but received an error that says "I have no specific answers for that. Let me do a search for an answer to apn". I tried speaking "Open APN settings" and it simply took me to my connections menu. But there is still no option for APN.
I've been having this same issue for a LONG time now. I've read a lot of cures, I ended up messing with my APNs manually and got things REALLY cocked up. I heard that 8sms would work better than the default messaging app and have been using that, but I still can't send MMS messages. I've pretty much given up at this point.

No MMS S4 I337M

I was able to enable my AWS and it works great, but I could not use MMS. I could text and make calls but that's it. I was on 4.4.2. I tried upgrading the modem to a few different ones with the same results. I checked with my provider that my APN settings were right and nothing works. If I upgrade to lollipop, everything works great APN settings are picked up automatically. If I go back to kitkat, I get the same results, no MMS. I'm not really fond of lollipop and would really like to go back to kitkat but I'm having this problem. Anyone have a solution or something I could try to figure this out. I searched but couldn't find anything related to.
I was using a stock 4.4.2

Working, for some reason NI2 was the only one that would work. Not sure if it has anything to do with the enabling/flashing AWS, but now working.
If you've got PushBullet or other "share-everywhere" app (e.g. Airdroid) installed' try uninstall & test MMS again. That was it on my ATT Samsung Edge4. --markfast--
