[Q] Device don't recognize specific SIM carrier - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, must say the device got a little water back few months before it started to make this problem.
The motherboard and every thing looks clean inside.
The problem is when we put a sim card its not recognize there is a sim inside, we tried a new sim and other sim that works 100% on other device, but nothing.
The funny thing is when we put other carrier sim card it recognize it and works fine.
We tried to replace the sim card slot , problem still remains..
The last thing I think about is to replace the charging (usb) port (all this board), do you think it will fix the problem? or what else could be this weird problem?
thanks.

Anyone have any idea about this issue?
BTW, the charging port/board is related to the buttom back-setting touch keys?

Your phone is locked to certain carrier that's why it wont recognize some sim cards and some work just fine.
If the sim card slot is damaged the phone wont read any sim.

The device is unlocked, not bought from any carrier (here they never lock it anyway).
The Sims that's works are different carrier so can't be lock to specific one.
Maybe something messed up with the modem?
Is it possible that the charging port (board) will do the trick? (The antenna connect to this board as well)

[Q] how to update an "unlocked" phone

complicated story. recently purchased an "unlocked" optimus 7 phone off of kijiji and it was working on my fido simcard, but it only worked until i got home and synced with my computer played around with the simcard and battery and was alittle rough with it, then the "unlocked" phone detects no sim on my phone. had a feeling i got ripped off. but awkward enough i think i had a hand in making it not work (i tried putting the sim card in without pulling out the battery, so i suspected that i might have messed up the hardware)
few days later, plan was up for fido so i switched to telus, but because the plan i got did not include data, so i am not sure if it would actually connect with a "unlocked" telus phone, i just want confirmation from anybody that "Any sim card can work with Any telus phone?"
story aint over
hoping that it was my fault for only messing up with the software by attempting to unlock myself and that it had nothing to the hardware, i went to pacificmall to somebody reliable to solve my problem and asked to "re-unlock" it for me.
result was that he told me it might be a hardware issue, and that he tried other sim cards and phone had not detected any signal.
what happened later on was i attempted to fix hardware my self by looking to push the simcard holder down thinking that it might be because it was loose from be trying to jam the simcard in earlier.
end result, phone is now detecting my telus simcard, and so my main question now is "i dont know if its becuase it is unlocked that made it work, or do all telus sims work on all telus phones and i fixed my phone by some retarded method"
All Telus sims work on all Telus branded phones, no matter what you may have done to it.
not working anymore
after having reception for one day, it ain't working anymore.
can anyone provide any help? would it be a good idea to sent it to Lg for fix?
Dude, I don't know for sure, but you probably did a short-circuit on the SIM socket when you tried to insert the SIM with the battery connected =/

P6800 SIM Card not recognized!!!

Hi,
I just purchased a P6800 to replace my current phone.
Everything is awesome about the device, but everytime I try to insert my SIM from my previous phone, it keeps saying "Please Insert SIM"
After many reboots, same message shows on the unlock screen.
I've tried other SIM cards from my friends' phones (H20, Red Pocket, T-Mobile, Etc.)
The only SIM it seems to detect is my old O2 SIM card from my travel overseas.
Are there different times of Mini SIMs? Perhaps the metal contact sizes are different for data and regular phone SIMs?
I hope someone can help as I would love to utilize the full capabilities of this device.
Thanks.

It uses a regular sized SIM, not a micro-SIM. Are you sure you're inserting the SIM with the contact side down notch end first?

Im having the exact same problem. Bought a Telstra sim for my P6800 and it wont recognise it. The same sim works fine in my Galaxy Nexus, and the sim from my Galaxy Nexus works fine in the Tab. It's just this particular sim/data plan it wont recognise the sim, keeps saying 'insert sim'. I had the sim replaced, same issue. Any ideas?
Did you try to go to Settings -> Wireless and then configure the APN, etc.?

Wont let me into it. When I press Mobile Networks it tells me to insert a sim. The sim works fine in other devices but is not detected by the Tab. A Google search reveals that it is a common problem with certain sims and carriers, I may have to go to a Telstra store and try a few different sims.. Unless there is something else I can try?
I had a problem with my sim card but when I reboot my device It is Ok.
Yes. Try to reboot your device. When I inserted my SIM while the tablet was on, it would give me the same error until I restarted the tablet.
You definitely have to reboot the Tab after inserting the Sim.

With respect, rebooting was the first thing I tried! Makes no difference whether I insert the sim when the Tab is off or not, still not detected
If a different Sim card works in the tablet you can see if your phone provider can give you another Sim. If no Sim works, it's most probably HW related

A sim that worked earlier in the week no longer works, sadly now looks to be a hardware issue..
You can't use the micro sims they mess up the sim reader if you leave it in it will continue to work but once you take it out it breaks the sim slot it happened to me i used a att sim first and it worked fine then a rep at a cell shop put his micro sim with an adapter into to it to see if it worked with t-mobile and when he took it out the sim slot wouldn't work I had to get the device replaced

And that is exactly what has happened to me. I was using a micro sim with adapter and after I removed it, the device no longer recognises sim cards. It will cost me AU$130 to have it repaired.
A big warning to everyone else not to use micro sims with adapters, make sure you use a full old-style sim card! Quite annoying since most carriers these days have the sim card with the micro-sim push out, these will damage the sim slot in the P6800
Same problem here after using a microsim adapter now it doesn't recognize any sim. Do you know how to remove back cover so i try to repair internal sim card reader?

Same problem here, after using a Micro-Sim Adapter, my p6800 stopped recognizing the sim cards. I hope the repair do not cost too much.
Don't know if this might help.
I had the same experience when I insert my Sim card the first time.
Luckily I have about twenty old Sim card to play with.
I tried most of them and found put that some Sim card is thinner.
So, what I did was to paste a layer of clear tape on the back of my Sim card to make it slightly thicker.
It will fell a but tight at first.
But it helps.

I've also tried that, pasted a piece of tap to make the sim a bit thicker but It didn't worked, I think I have to send it for repair.
Thanks for your help.

Last try would be the most ancient method.
Try using a eraser to rub the contacts of the Sim card.

[Q] one particular sim card not being detected on s4 i9505 SOLVED

I have a extremely illogical problem and spent alot of time diagnosing it which still got me nowhere.
The scenario is like this,
I have 2 S4 galaxies, (both unlocked australian models)
1. I9505 (Stock 4.4.2)
2.I9507 (Stock 4.2.2)
I have a very old sim card that has been working on all my phones so far, android and others. It is a Australian TPG sim card which uses the optus network
I insert this sim card in my I9505 20 or 30 times and power on off, always have message no sim card. I try at least 5 other sim cards, different carrier and different country all detect and work on first attempt.
I now insert this sim card into phone 2 (I9507) it detects on first attempt! I do it 3 more times all attempts are successful.
So I open both phones, swap the sim card / sd card reader parts between phones (I mark each sim card reader so there is no confusion which one is which)
Now I insert sim card into (I9505 with I9507 sim reader) sim card not detected, 10 attempts all fail.
Insert sim card into (I9507 with I9505 sim reader) sim card detected every time!
I try all my sim cards on both phones, all sim cards work on both phones, both sim readers are 100% fine!
I am thinking this has to be software related, I am not able to downgrade my I9505 to 4.2 obviously, I do not want to upgrade my 9507 to 4.4.2, to see if the sim will fail on the i9507.
the 9505 has the 4.4 bootloader and knox has been tripped, but it works fine with all other sim cards, phone calls, data, wifi etc.
Anybody have anything in mind or any clue why in the hell the sw on the i9505 hates my tpg sim and won't detect it, obviously the sim reader is working 100% and the sim card also works 100% detects on i9507 and also on a xt925 motorola (pre 4.4 bootloader)
The only thing in this equation thats out of place is 4.4 bootloader, I have no second device with 4.4 bootloader to verify.
is there any new security or anything at all regarding sim card reading in the 4.4 bootloader?
Any help appreciated, hope its not a thread with 0 answers after a year
ps tpg charge $20 for sim replacement and take upto 10 days in mail, so I am keen to solve this before replacing the sim
The problem was hardware wise afterall, all other sim cards worked under normal conditions however the non working simcard started working when heavy pressure is applied on the sim reader flex cable plug. Solution was to put a rubber stopped on top of the sim reader flex cable plug. When the midframe is screwed down the rubber stopper puts the extra pressure needed.
Something to point out for those purchasing SIM card slot replacements. The original part HAS the rubber pad mentioned above. If you replace the SIM card reader with a new one you have to peel the pad off the original and place it on the new part for it to work correctly. The new part doesn't include the pad.
Have the same problem with my s4 i9505 . I flashed 4.4.2 official rom then custom roms with no results . But when i changed sim card with other of the same operator it worked . I realized that the problem lies in the new sim cards pins engineering.

Cannot connect to mobile network: NO SIM CARD - EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY

Hi, I recently bought a new Yotaphone2 (YD206) taking advantatge of the Singles' day discounts, but I am having some trouble connecting to the mobile network.
Since I did not have a nanosim available from the beggining, I started by updating its ROM (I used the last Russian one, while keeping the Chinese radio) and then I rooted it. So far so good.
The thing is, after my microsim was cut into a nanosim (the guy at the mobile phone store did it, using one of these "staplers"), I inserted it in the tray but it is not recognized on the phone. On the screen you can read "No sim card - emergency calls only".
At first I thought it was the radio, and I even flashed it again. I also went back to the original chinese rom, with no success. I think it's not a radio problem, since I can get some statistics in the *#*#4636#*#* menu, but I am not a 100% certain. Of course, I've already tried rebooting, setting the airplane mode on and off, removing and inserting the sim again, etc. Apart from that, wifi, bluetooth and everything else work as expected.
The sim card works, because using a microsim adapter I can fit it in my Nexus 4 and it gets signal. There are three options here: either the radio is not properly configured/flashed, the phone is faulty or the sim has been wrongly cut.
Could you help me troubleshoot the problem?
Solved!
Solved! It was the sim card, it was not properly cut. I used some sandpaper so sand one edge that was a bit rough. I didn't even have to reboot, the phone asked for my pin inmediately. I'm using the last EU rom with the chinese radio.
Yay! Happy!
I have the same issue now and my yotaphone 2 was bought in China... I've tried the sim cards from two companies, both didn't work. I doubt I received a defective product.

Canadian Note 4 not recognizing any SIM card

Note 4 not recognizing any SIM card
Wondering if any of you experts out there can help me out.
I have the Canadian version (SM-N910W8) of the Note 4 (pretty much same as the T-Mobile version) which works fine except this one issue which is puzzling me. The phone will not recognize any SIM card (have tried many) but has no issues with SD cards or connecting to WiFi. I have gone so far as to replace the SD and Sim Card ribbon & antenna cables with new ones, tried official Samsung TouchWiz & custom ROMs but the issue persists.
There are many posts on the Internet about Samsung phones which stop recognizing SIM cards and asking users to re-insert it or reboot the phone but mine simply refuses to recognize any and all SIM cards. Have tried adding a piece of paper, tape, etc... on top of the SIM to no avail.
Any suggestions?
