[Q] i can't update to kik kat official - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i'm from Argentina, I own an unlocked Razr M. When i got the official Kit Kat upgrade, my touchscreen got locked.
In Jelly Bean, I pressed the corners of the screen and I was able to skip the block, i don't have a Verizon chip. I can only install up CM11 M8 because i "need" kit kat bootloader.
BL: unlocked

You can find the latest KitKat FXZ for RSD Lite here or CM11 M11 for JB bootloader here.

Downgrading bootloader

Hi,
I am on the latest stock NG1 Rom after upgrading with Mobile Odin Pro from NB7 which I had successfully rooted with Towelroot. Since MOP doesn't flash bootloaders I am still on the old NB7 bootloader and so far I am fine and don't have any issues. But I have 2 questions.
First, is it better to subsequently flash the new bootloader with Odin each time I upgrade my firmware with MOP and everroot? Are there any benefits to that?
And secondly: if I upgrade my old NB7 bootloader to NG1 now and later - if I get softbricked or smth - downgrade again to NB7 with Odin to reroot the phone with Towelroo,t will I trigger Knox because of downgrading the bootloader?
Thanks very much in abvance.

Which means that if I upgrade the bootloader to NG1 and then try to flash with Odin the NB7 firmware with the old bootloader I simply won't be able to boot or get bricked?
Or maybe I can reflash the old NB7 firmware and then (without auto start option in Odin) flash the new bootloader right away to get the phone running?
For example: if you were on Android V4.3 you will be on the Jelly Bean bootloader. If you then updated to Android V4.4 your Jelly Bean bootloader will be updated to the KK bootloader. However, you can still run Jelly Bean on the KK bootloader. But you cannot downgrade the KK bootloader to the older Jelly Bean bootloader.

[XT1033] Some general info about downgrading that seems missed...

I've seen a lot of threads saying we cant downgrade from lollipop to kitkat, bricking, blah blah blah.
But earlier today I downgraded to the Asia Retail 4.4.4 firmware (.xml.zip) and also to the Brazil Retail 4.4.2 firmware (.xml.zip) from Lollipop (brazil soak)....
So I want to know everyone else's experiences, let's get a thread of the known SAFE ways to downgrade.
Also yes, there are other factors that may contribute to a brick, so people who have bricked tell what you've done in order to brick your phone.
I was lead to believe that flashing 4.4.2, or 4.4.4 asia retail, over lollipop would cause a brick...
TL;DR: Let's try clear up some confusion on downgrading the Moto G
I can only confirm for the XT1033 but I am willing to post whats needed.
@plantator gave some useful information "if you try to flash motoboot and gpt it will give you error and can make some troubles, in this link you run only bat file , it flash gpe 4.4.4 without motoboot and gpt , and next step you flash stock and again without motoboot and gpt. As I said i flash 5.0.1 GPE to 4.4.4 GPE and then to 4.4.4 stock"
And yes if you downgrade from Lollipop to Kitkat you WILL have that weird bloody flickering line going through your screen. the only solution i see so far is turning the screen off and on (lock and unlock) once, and itll disappear. but it comes back everytime phone is booted.
It seems the only safe way to downgrade is to make sure no matter what you do, do not install any over the air update for a version starting with 4, or simply just don't OTA from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4. if you need 4.4.4 to upgrade to 5.0.0 then download the 4.4.4 XML.ZIP firmware.
I'll make the assumption that when 5 hits official OTA rollout itll be safe to download through 4.4.4 unless someone can correct me otherwise.
I downgraded my moto xt1032 from BR soak 5.0->GPE Lollipop 5.0.1 to GPE 4.4.4 using this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/guide-xt1033-downgrade-lollipop-5-0-to-t2969729
and next i just flash stock EU 4.4.4 without flashing motoboot and gpt.bin and it is working! remember do not flash motoboot and gpt.bin
so I back to stock retail EU without problems
What was your "safe" way?
Did you just directly flash everything from 4.4.4?
If not, then what exactly did you do?
Sent from my XT1033 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Bro, when you have downgraded to 4.4.2, the screen still flickering? (like in 4.4.4)
You can go back to 4.4.2 or 4.4.4, just avoid flashing bootloader (motoboot.img) and partitions table (gpt.bin).
But, don't downgrade via OTA! (WiFi/zip) or you'll hard brick your phone.
Don't do this: 5.0-->4.4.2-->4.4.4 (OTA) or the phone will get bricked in the middle of the update process.
Almost all peoples who bricked their devices was ones who flashed 4.4.2 and OTA to 4.4.4 (which makes no sense to me and it's idiotic), most of peoples with other problems simply didn't apply to tutorials and flashed custom recovery after changing to 4.4.4 and trying to push OTA zip. Another are peoples with bootloops after pushing and installing 5.0/5.0.1 which was easily fixed with gpt file.
So just to put together - you can brick device if you will downgrade to 4.4.2 (which made troubles even when there was KK release before lollipop), other problems are just mostly bootloops and connection problems (which can be fixed with flashing gpt file in first case and/or flashing modems for second).
Can you use moto tool to downgrade to 4.4.4
If i make a cwm nandroid backup while in crdroid kitkat, then upgrade to cm12 and return afterwards back to crdroid from backup... Would that be OK?
I've downgraded from GPE 5.0.1 and everything goes right but I want to know, what about logo.bin? Is it safe to flash it? When I turn on the phone it shows the Google logo and the open lock because it was from GPE lollipop, but I didnt dare to flash logo.bin from Moto 4.4.4 firmware, since that file wasnt listed anywhere with the files that were safe to flash...
So is it safe to flash logo.bin? Has anyone succesfully flashed it?
flash logo without problems, it is only bootlogo file nothing more, i downgraded 5.0.1GPE to 4.4.4GPE and than 4.4.4retail
without touching motoboot.img and gpt.bin, do not flash them!

I have a little question, if i accidentally flash motoboot or gpt, i can't flash again to lollipop then downgrade again? i don't do it, is just in case.
also, i have a XT1032 with 5.01 GPE lollipop, i can downgrade to 4.4.4 without flashing motoboot and gpt then go to stock 4.4.4? thanks!

Your post is the most sensible one for people to use. I honestly have no idea why anyone would flash 4.4.2 unless they don't have the 4.4.4 firmware. What seems to be happening to those that update from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 OTA and have problems is that the bootloader was upgraded in 5.01 to version 41.18 Have you done the downgrade yourself and did you get the screen flicker issue? I'm running 5.01 GPE on a XT1032 and for the most part see no reason to downgrade. I will however consider flashing the Motorola stock 5.01 firmware once it's released.
Why I downgrade? only to check if it possible in easy way and sure it is. I like Lollipop very much , and back from gpe to stock only for waiting for stock ota when it arrives, not to flash everything when it comes, im ready now for it

Pls answer: did you get the screen line moving/flicker problem after downgrading?
You can't flash OTA if you downgrade, ex: if you downgraded from 5.0 to 4.4.2 and update with ota to 4.4.4 the phone will brick

What if i do like this:
I'm on XT1033 ASIA, convert to 4.4.4 BR, OTA update to soak 5.0 and then 5.0.1. So the bootolader is updated
And if the OTA is already rollout for ASIA version, then i flashed back to asia 4.4.4 retail without flashing motoboot and gpt, then OTA update to lollipop
How?

Then you can flash OTA because you earlier flashed 5.0 soak test, so bootloader will be the same as the rollout OTA...
You can OTA to 5.0 comming from a downgraded 4.4.4 firmware!
I mean, 5.0 to 4.4.2 to OTA 4.4.4 = brick
But 5.0 to 4.4.4 to OTA 5.0 = will work because you have 5.0 bootloader already! :good:

[HOW TO][XT1033]Revert from 5.0.1 GPE to 4.4.4/5.0/5.0.1 Motorola or 4.4.4 GPE

Tested on my XT1033.
Some steps are repetitive. That was the way I got back to 5.0.1 Stock after flash 5.0.1 GPE. If you find a shorter way, please tell me and I will add it here. Otherwise, please follow all the steps.
FIRST PARTY - Returning from 5.0.1 GPE to 4.4.4 GPE
1 - Download this folder and extract it: http://www.mediafire.com/download/3ll0q1lwa1rd26r/Lollipop.rar
2 - Download this (GPE 4.4.4 - https://mega.co.nz/#!lUJCFICJ!19k6_7Zsd5_FB47ydrs2ECHF6wWOEd1oUlEmvr_p75Y) and extract into Lollipop folder.
3 - Reboot your phone in bootloader mode. Then plug your phone.
4 - Run BRAZILIAN 5 TO 4.4.4 GPE.BAT
5 - Boot phone, and reboot in bootloader mode again.
6 - Run ANY FIRMWARE TO 4.4.4 GPE.BAT
7 - Boot your phone. At this point, your phone will be running 4.4.4 GPE
SECOND PARTY - Returning from 4.4.4 GPE to 4.4.4 Motorola
8 - Download this (Motorola 4.4.4 - https://mega.co.nz/#!gs1WlIQK!nJA7Vc94DBfGFWGk1krcI5I2cKrJNGHnr_YekCBscwQ) and extract into Lollipop folder. Confirm overwrite files.
9 - Reboot your phone in bootloader mode. Then plug your phone.
10 - Run ANY FIRMWARE TO 4.4.4 GPE.BAT
11 - Boot phone. At this point, your phone will be running stock 4.4.4 motorola again
THIRD PARTY - Upgrading from 4.4.4 Motorola to 5.0 Motorola
12 - Download this (Motorola 5.0 - http://d-h.st/buH) and put it into internal memory.
13 - Reboot in recovery mode and flash it.
14 - If you are planning to upgrade to 5.0.1 ignore this step -- Wipe Data/Factory Reset
15 - Boot phone. At this point, your phone will be running stock 5.0 motorola.
FOURTH PARTY - Upgrading from 5.0 Motorola to 5.0.1 Motorola
16 - Download this (Motorola 5.0.1 - https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Bwray3U603G8TklaOEhXM3NqVVE/edit) and put it into internal memory.
17 - Reboot in recovery mode and flash it.
18 - Wipe Data/Factory Reset
19 - Boot phone. At this point, your phone will be running stock 5.0.1 motorola.
20 - Leave your thanks, if you think that i deserves it. :good::laugh:
Special thanks:

Alternative procedures:
1 - Going directly from 5.0.1 GPE to 4.4.4 Moto (suggested per @felipeap )
- In bootloader mode, flash gpt.bin file from 5.0.1 Moto. (It can be found in the OTA 5.0.1 Moto zip file)
- Then, flash 4.4.4 Moto (through bootloader mode)

There is no xt1032 stock 5.0 or 5.0.1 lollipop yet. If you're on the GPE 5.0.1 ,you'll have to wait until Motorola releases a OTA stock update to lollipop for the xt1032 before trying this method. I intend to just wait for the full stock lollipop firmware to be released before considering the idea of flashing back to stock.

[Q] Help with JJBL to KKBL

Hey guys, I've recently inherited a relatively unused xt907 vzw that I plan to use when travelling. It was still running ICS when I got hold of it. I'm currently unlocked and rooted and running the latest nightly build for jbbl. As it seems like support is ending for jjbl roms, I'd like to update the bootloader (but remain unlocked and rooted) so I can put lollipop on this phone. Having only used Samsung phones before, I'm a bit of a moto noob, so any help or advice would be appreciated.
I suspect I need to use RSD lite to flash the .10 baseband firmware, right? I'm aware of the issues with .15.
If it matters, my current baseband version is SM_BP_101032.021.32.80P
Thanks in advance.
Since your bootloader is unlocked - you can flash whichever firmware you want with RSDLite. If you want the KKBL, you will need to flash either the .10 or .15 Razr M KitKat firmware or even the .10 luge KitKat firmware - your choice.

Flash the .10 Razr M firmware (KDA20.62-10.1).
Head here > http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-razr-m/general/guide-faq-how-to-root-boot-unlock-t2869432
Thanks again, ATTACK, this worked great I've got CM12 up and running. I had to install a CM11 4.4 build before CM12 because of bootlooping (tried multiple recoveries and CM 12 nightlies).
So in case anyone else comes across this: KDA20.62-10.1->CM 11->CM 12. Works like a charm.

Heads up to those who updated to GPe 5.1

I'm a XT1032 user who updated to GPe 5.1 and I noticed it updated my bootloader to 41.19, given past experiences with the 41.18 bootloader it might no longer be safe to downgrade to KitKat 4.4.4 and OTA to 5.0.x as 5.0.x includes the the 41.18 bootloader.
We know from people who downgraded from official 5.0.x to 4.4.2 and OTA'd to 4.4.4 that the OTA procedure causes a hard brick due to flashing the old bootloader, therefore it might be wise to not downgrade to any KitKat version at all if you previously updated to GPe 5.1
yup going from 5.0.2 to KK (4.4.2 to 4.4.4) killed my moto g.

perhaps going to 4.4.2 then 4.4.4 did it? Wheras if you went straight to 4.4.4.
Either way won't risk going to KK
even i have downgraded to 4.4.4 from 5.1GPE and didnt face any problem.
It is 100% safe to downgrade ONLY if you do not flash the old bootloader. Kitkat, or lollipop 5.0.2 can run on 41.18 bootloader and even older bootloaders, just remember guys, if you try to flash the older bootloader it will hardbrick your phone. Avoid flashing anh bootloaders at all.
Just avoid flashing the bootloader, and you can go back and forth between Android versions. If you downgrade you'll have the flickering bug, but nothing more.
Flashing the 4.4.4 or 4.4.2 bootloader on a device with 41.18 or 41.19 will likely result in a hardbrick. AFAIK.
My point is that the OTA from stock/GPe KitKat to Lollipop 5.0.x includes the 41.18 bootloader, it will attempt to "upgrade" the 41.19 GPe 5.1 bootloader to 41.18 which might cause a brick the same way going from 4.4.2 with 41.18 to 4.4.4 with 41.13 by way of OTA was causing bricks
I made a mess of my attempt to upgrade to GPE 5.1 , so I downgraded to to 5.0.2 and it also downgraded the bootloader from 41.19 to 41.18. I wonder if that means that the 41.19 bootloader will allow us to downgrade further?

I'm not sure, I wouldn't try it unless you know you can get it repaired for free, IIRC the phone refuses to flash the bootloader if you downgrade it using mfastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img.
In any case, if you guys get sick of GPE 5.1, just flash the Brazilian 5.0.2 Firmware image without motoboot.img and gpt.bin... Then you will have back all Moto features (and will remain in 41.19 for now)... When the 5.1 moto firmware image comes available, just flash everything, including motoboot and gpt, to replace the ones from the GPE firmware...
Even if the 5.0.2 firmware image for your specific country comes available, you can flash it excluding bootloader and partition table safely... Then wou will be able to OTA to Moto 5.1 when it comes available, because you will already have the new bootloader, so there will be no problem.
Luckily, I flashed the GPE 5.1 flashable ZIP from lost101... :good:
4.4.2 WILL KILL YOUR PHONE
The death will happen after OTA from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4.
Speaking from experience :highfive:
So, I am kind of in a mess right now with my phone and I was wondering if it was because of the bootloader. Can anyone please tell me the bootloader versions for 4.4 kitkat, 5.0 lollipop and 5.1 lollipop?
