The Moto X phone just received a camera update which allows the Moto 360(smart watch) to take a picture. When you open the camera on the phone the app on the watch also activates. You can then tap the screen on the watch and the phone will count down a few seconds and take a picture. After the picture is taken it appears on the watch face.
Not sure it is super useful but I guess if you prop your phone up and take group shots you can now do it remotely and also verify the pic is ok(albeit in very tiny form on the 360 screen)
It is nice to see Motorola continues to add features.

It says performance improvements, too - we can only hope!!!!
There is no point if they keep adding features if not fix the problems that are currently with the camera and flash on android 4.4.4.
Apparently remains the same and the photos remain obscure disaster ...

Not everyone has your issue though. Who knows how many out there do. It could be a very small percentage and therefore unnoticed by Motorola.
My wife's X on 4.4.4 is fine. Nearly as good as my M8 anyway.
Though both don't compare to my $120 Kodak camera. Lol

I think my camera has always been bad in low light no matter what the version.
I think all 444 cams are bad. My Maxx too.
Any with good no ambient light pics w/flash? Please chime in.
Go in a totally dark room, set flash to always, shoot something, post a good pic, please!

I understand Motorola is not the best manufacturer of cameras for mobile phones, but if this is a mistake, since before 4.4.2 did not happen.
The first photo was taken with Moto X, the second with a galaxy S3 with no light in the room, only the flash.
? I much prefer the first pic. Taking pics of real people is a drag when its too dark like pic 2.
Guess everyone is different . ?

Plus the flash on the white is obviously reflecting the light back.

So I like most everything about my nexus but the way it takes pictures. Its not so much a real issue because it doesn't prevent the camera from working.. but it seems the chip/sensor they used for the camera gives a red spot in all pictures in the center of the image, most noticeably in pictures with a white or light background/image. I'll attach a picture so everyone else can confirm what I mean... I was hoping we could get HTC to replace the phones that have this issue via the warranty as this seems to be an issue with many nexus ones (based on a couple of reviews and the pictures they provided there). Here's my sample picture. You can also see it on screen when looking at what you're going to take a picture of.
Also I do research in a lab and its a procedure for an experiment I'm doing... just realized what I was posting might seem odd... didn't really read it before posting.
It is a software issue, so they are not going to do a warranty replacement. Droid had the same deal with it, seems to be something with the base 2.0/1 Android framework, I am sure it will be fixed when google releases their bug fix update(don't ask when, no legit idea beyond guessing sometime around the start of February, since that seems to be the typical timeline with phone bug updates, about 30 days after launch the first update is released).
Correction. It's a HARDWARE issue. Dont believe me? leave your cammera on for a couple minutes.. Goes away right? Its cuz droid camera was the same.. or similar? They had a bad batch. Mine has no pink eye(N1) =>
The Droid's issue was partially a software problem...
http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/17/motorola-droid-camera-autofocus-fixed-in-secrecy/
As well, it is a "who really knows?"
http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=10749
It seems many phones, with different camera's and so forth are having this issue... CCD seems to be the manufacturer of all the sensors, though, so perhaps there is a problem with the firmware from CCD causing this?
I highly doubt that every single camera sensor ever made by this company happens to have this sort of issue due to hardware. That would be pretty insane! However, if it was a firmware issue, then it would be present in every handset that uses a CCD manufactured/firmware supported camera, and this seems to be the case.
As well, it has already been stated the HD2 will get an update that fixes it. Hopefully the Nexus One is in the same boat. I didn't notice it on the test unit I used, but I asked the current tester if it was happening, and on all 3 it is present. It isn't noticeable in most pictures, though, especially with the flash on, FXcamera set to the proper white balance, and so forth.
EVERY Nexus One you get will have this issue. IT IS SOFTWARE. My N1 has it, the replacement I got has it too.
I've just taken a load of pictures and no pink from what I can see with both flash on and off.
Took pictures of a white surface and no pink. Must be hardware.
EDIT: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/phot...authkey=Gv1sRgCNKM3fOF452TyQE&feat=directlink
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/phot...authkey=Gv1sRgCNKM3fOF452TyQE&feat=directlink
Do you have any camera apps installed? FXcamera with proper white balance settings(sometimes auto is perfect, sometimes you have to do it manually) makes it go away a lot of the time too.
Eh Hem.. Guys are you all forgetting that my N1 DOES NOT HAVE PINK EYE
From what I understand this is a hardware issue. This was also present in an earlier HTC phone (I think the HD2) running a different OS altogether.
yes this was a widespread issue on the HD2... and it was completley fixed by a SOFTWARE UPDATE! >.<
A cursory search of the words "hd2 pink camera issue" on Google seems to imply that this is actually a hardware issue.
Edit: The source of the confusion http://www.redmondpie.com/fix-pink-camera-problem-on-htc-hd2-9140202/:
HTC first confirmed it as an hardware issue but then later they found out that it was infact a software issue, rather than a hardware one.

I believe the SOFTWARE update is just overcorrecting the blue/green settings on the center of the camera (Guess...) to cancel out the HARDWARE problem with YOUR camera. But again.. It is a Hardware issue for sure. Sorry guys xD I win!
I wouldnt trust htc if you ask them though.. I dont think they are certain what planet they are on half the time.. I asked about how they know that I unlocked my bootloader and his answer was basically.. voodoo. Soooo yaaahhhh... Notice that the cameras are the same for droid HD2 and Nexus one? and those are the only 3 with the issue? Not the G1 with ported software? => hardware folks

I agree, just because the manufacturer releases a software fix doesn't mean its a software problem to begin with.
The first day I had the phone, I really noticed the pink spot. Yesterday I took 30 pictures, I didn't notice it at all. Today If I look hard enough I think I see a little tiny pink, viewing the image of a white piece of paper in the same place (office) I first tested the camera.
Yeah I noticed this too. It only really shows up if I take pictures of white paper or a white wall. Every other normal pic I take turns out fine but I do hope they can fix it with a software update... wouldn't be too hard.

The coding in the stock camera app seems to be a bit screwed up, it makes the camera tend not to focus well and seems a bit unclear most of the time. In that case use this:

If you have no interest in filters, there is an original version of every photo taken.
The one problem that may annoy you is the improper scaling. The photo's are worth it though, Here are some samples.

Apparently non US customers got screwed over like me, as Amazon bought exclusive rights to sell the Ultimate version in their appstore. Can't find it in market anymore. And my Titanium restore from Desire doesn't work either...
I don't like paying for nothing that much, to be honest.

A lot of users paid for the Ultimate version and it is no surprise are far from happy in how the developer sold out to Amazon leaving it's paid supporters out in the cold.
For that reason they will not support the developer again, paid or free.

One of the things I hate doing is swiping a whole bunch to scroll through length webpages or forums.
Have you used the smart scroll feature to surf any pages? How well does it work? Does away with all the swiping that is normally done while surfing on a smartphone browser?
Have you tried the NFC? I assume it works in exactly the same way as GS3...?

Also, could you take pictures of the phone itself? In addition, a picture of the apps that are in the drawer immidiately upon boot?
Just tried it on a few pages...it seems to work really well...I guess it is based on the angle at which it thinks your eyes are looking at the screen so you can trigger it by tilting the phone. I can scroll up and down an entire page without touching the screen, and stop wherever I want to read something.

It's definitely nice, the screen is probably it's best feature. My other phone is the LG Optimus G so the S4 is not a big spec jump. It almost feels too light, but I am attributing that to the fact that my OG is a slab of glass.

Maybe if you're filming a video and you want to talk about what you are filming? Maybe showing the reaction on your face to whatever it is you are taking a picture of. Video reviewers will like it because they can show their face while recording their review.
I'm definitely with you on that....the only thing I could see it being useful for is capturing your reaction to the picture you are taking...? It actually frames your face in a postage stamp and overlays that on the rear camera picture. I guess they are trying to make the picture taker not feel left out of the picture.

Just curious if anyone is disappointed in the v20? I know some have already received their units.

Curious - thanks.
What reviews are you looking at? I've seen 95% very positive reviews.
i feel the screen could have been better.. i like the amoleds
The phone itself I love. There are software changes I could change.
Oh, I do wish there was an LED indicator. Makes it easier to know what's going on from across the room. 2nd screen is hard to read from afar.
I'm just trying to get used to LG again from using Samsung for the last year. I wish the stock launcher was a little bit....more. I used the stock touch-wiz on the S7 edge and Note 7 and actually liked it (I know, I know) and I feel like the LG launcher is a little meh in comparison. Switched to Smart Launcher and all is well there. I do sort of wish the screen was AMOLED, but that said, the screen on this thing is in no way bad. Otherwise, fantastic phone and so nice to be on a proper 5.7 screen again.
Has anyone found a way to schedule comfort mode? I don't like I have to go turn it on and off.

Try Nova. It works well with my v20
I will get mine tonight and will let you know what I dont like. I have a Nexus 6P at the moment and had 4 Note 7 in 1 month. The Note 7 was a great phone from the design but Touchwiz is so slow and laggy it was annoying. The screen of course was gorgeous and the camera was great. The 6P is in general fast but stock android is so blunt. I had Nexus phone for 4 years. The 6Ps camera is slow and the stock camera app is awfully simple. The AMOLED on the 6P is awful (yellow tint and dark). I rather have a good LCD than a bad AMOLED. On the N7 and the ^P battery life was just OK. Nothing to brag about.
I hope from the V20 that the screen is decent, the camera is fast and takes good pictures and that the battery life is decent. I am most concerned about battery life but we will see.

It is. Even with phone in silent it still makes the shutter sound. Nothing mutes it.
I use Nova launcher prime. I like Nova so much it's one of the few apps I bought gladly.
I'm shocked you can't disable the shutter sound. That sucks. I take pictures of my grandkids a lot and the sound makes them wild! LOL they want to hear it over and over... LOL ?
I guess that'll have to be something once it's rooted and custom rooms start showing up.
My last 2 phones have been Samsung. Galaxy S3 which I kept for nearly 2 years, and now the Samsung Note 4 which I've had for almost exactly 2 years. Before the S3 I was either using an iPhone or the LG 3D phone which I can't remember the model number.
So my dilemma is I read the specs for the v20 and I'm underwhelmed. Then I compare against my note 4 and don't see enough "upgrades"... I like the ticker screen on top, I think that's awesome. I like the wide angle camera but the images look so fish eyed I can't imagine using that for taking pictures of my kids (my main photo subjects) for scenery or artistic shots I'm sure it's amazing. But I'm no photographer, I want good pictures and fast camera response. (and no shutter speed)
I agree with the poster who said a good lcd screen is better than a bad amoled screen. I do wish it was amoled but it isn't so...
Thank you all for the info. Please keep it coming.

Nova is a great launcher, don't get me wrong. I'm just getting lazy in setting up my phone and Smart Launcher lets me customize my phone without having to set up folders and organize things myself. Nova requires so much initial set-up and I just don't have the patience lately.
Back on subject though, the more I use this phone, the more I love it. It sucked to have to give back the Note 7, but this is a worthy replacement and feels so well built.

It's a bit complex but it has a camera sounds options in it: Camera FV-5 I think it has a freebie trial version so you don't have to buy it. (Only reason I got it was to shoot RAW on my Nexus 6. The V20 already has the RAW option baked in.)

Do you have the korean version? Korean and Japanese phones have shutter sounds always-on to attempt to curtail "up-skirt" photography.

I'm using the T-Mobile version. With the phone on silent, the camera makes no shutter sound. So it may only be the international version.
Having issues with front camera taking blurry pictures . Anyone having same issues. Please suggest possible solutions ?

First thing first. Check if it is an external or internal issue. To check if it is external, take a closer look to the camera (if possible with a zoom ?) and if you see the lens is foggy or some moist inside there, then you will have to open it. To check if is internal, install 2 or 3 other cameras that work with selfies and see if it is blurry too.
Could you post an example?

1st, if you want someone to answer to you, you must click on the reply button. otherwise, that person might never know that you are asking him something.
Now, this is a picture of how more or less a foggy/moist lens would look like (like fog accumulating on the interior). If you take a close look and you dont see anything abnormal, then it is more likely to be something inernal (software related) but in order to see whether is that too then, you might want to install several camera apps and try each one. if none of the show a blurry image, then it is software related. if all of them show you the same result then ... it might be external and you would have to open the phone.

A) If the OP is serious about this thread, they'll come back and actually check it and see my request. If they need me to hit the reply button, that's just lazy and not giving a care. If they don't care, I don't care.
B) If you meant to attach a photo, you forgot to.
C) I'm not really interested in seeing what you have, I'm here to help the OP. I've been doing photography for over 30 years now. I pretty much have seen it all. Not sure why you think I want to see what you have since you are not the OP.

This is what i mean.

And to be honest. If you want s fast response then the usual approach is a reply.
Seems like you took my comment the wrong way. i dont know why since it is just a suggestion which make sense (didnt they created the reply button for that reason?) . Also, you are talking to someone who had that same issue. Maybe not with this phone but with the samsung galaxy s5.

Er, the OP started the thread and commented about blurry photos, what made you assume the thread was suddenly about you?
And there's about a million different reasons for photos to come out blurry which is why it is best to ask for examples instead of jumping on a solution that is probably somewhere at the bottom of the list out of possible reasons first. Makes complete sense that I was talking to the OP if you're actually here to help the OP.

Ah. nevermind I thought I was talking to the OP but now i figured out i was talking with someone else.
Do you know what a hierarchy chart by any chance? (dont go taking this question the wrong way now)
Yes, I know what a hierarchy chart is but I fail to see how that solves the OP's issue without the OP coming back and giving us examples of his/her blurry photos.
To get back on track, and yes this is almost pointless without samples of the blurry pics, my front camera seems to "smooth" selfie pics as if to make them seem better. They look, to me, like they have been processed to look "better"--like some people often do on Facebook to pics of themselves, particularly if they are above a "certain age."

Thanks for all the suggestions. It turns out lens had collected dust under the screen protector. I took some pics without screen proctor they came out just fine. I am sorry to reply so late due to hectic work schedule. Truly appreciate the advice. I didn't mean to post a question and disappear.

Just bought the V20 and I've got to say how disappointed I am with the front camera, particularly auto mode. It's almost impossible to take a picture that isn't blurry. The only way to get a decent picture is to switch to manual mode and increase shutter speed. Once you toggle between shutter speed and iso, you can capture really decent pictures. Where this causes problems is when you need to snap a picture really quickly and don't have time to sit and adjust settings. I'll probably return this phone and go for a Samsung. At least I know I'll get great pictures. Very disappointing.
the front camera sucks because of the focus, that's why mines blurry anyway. it's like infinity focus so anything closeup, like a selfie, is not sharp. the galaxy s7 was the same way.. the ffc was garbage on it bc of this. weird, bc my note 4 ffc was 10x better than both and that phones 3 years old lol

I think it has something to do with with the stupid beauty filter on the front cam for selfies. Even if you turn it down to 0 it still looks like it's applying a smoothing effect and there is no way to turn it off as far as I know.
Just doing a comparison shot in another camera app like the Google camera I can tell a difference in the detail of my skin. The Google camera sucks because there is too much noise overall but I can actually see the individual hairs on my beard whereas on the LG one with the beauty thing turned to 0 it still looks like a smoothed out mish mash
