[23AUG] "Hacked" Play Store 3.8.17.4 (Wishlist, delta "smart" updates, gift cards)
Hey guys,
I was looking for this yesterday and I found nothing, so I decided to "hack" the Play Store apk myself.
It's just 3.8.17 Play Store with Wishlist and (US only for now) gift cards activated.
How to install (or update)
1. Make a nandroid or backup Play Store by Titanium
2. Go to Settings » Apps » All » Google Play Store, tap "Uninstall updates" (if active) and confirm
3. Download my APK, place it on /sdcard and rename to Phonesky.apk
4. In Root Explorer (or any other file explorer that uses root permissions, but don't use ES File Explorer) go to /system/app and remove Phonesky.apk
---4.1. If you see any com.android.vending-*.apk file in this directory, remove it too
5. Copy Phonesky.apk from /sdcard to /system/app
6. Reboot

They aren't. It enables both them and wishlist. Both are fully usable, however there's no way to buy any gift code ATM

Got a better link? On my phone it wnt let me copy the text to put in my browser

Can I ask if this is dpi hacked? As in for those who have a dpi of 162 like me it will fix the market incompatibility error?
If not how can I hack it to force the market to use a set dpi? Instead of reading my build.prop?

Nope. It lets you download apps unavailable in your country (they aren't shown in search results!) or for your device. It also lets you access and manage your Wishlist and gift cards.

Is that possible to free download to payable apps, can u do it?

Can I ask what you did to change it? I've been trying to figure this out for the longest time. Plus sorry to be a pain but can you get rid of just device restrictions and not auto updating the market? I wouldn't mind if the market updated itself

He's talking about going to play. Google. Com and installing an app from there. But Google services framework is what handles that (if I'm not mistaken)

I just modified the function that checks whether the application is available for user to always return true. Simple, isn't it?

(Q) won't install 3rd party apps.

So I've recently noticed that my phone won't let me install 3rd party apps anymore. It accepts it to download but when I get to the install screen and try to install it won't let me. Anyone know how to fix this? I'm on MF3 regular GS4.

Could be possible that they either are not supported by sgs4 or they need to be system apps which would than be required to be pushed to /system/app...but since you said they are third party apps id assume that they are nit supported bt the s4...im on mf3 base (not official ota though) and ive been able to install the google edition camera just fine which is a thrid party app

do you have the install from other sources box checked ?specifically:
1. Settings
2. More
3. Security
4. Unknown Sources
5. Check...

yes SIR i have that checked already.
all the information is up there I said it won't let me install 3rd party apps ANYMORE[hint] and if I didn't check that box it wouldn't let me get to the install screen[hint] or yet even download. But mg2195 think answered the question for me? I believe the apps weren't compatible with the phone but I mean I was trying to install some apk and it wouldn't let me.

Good Deal.. Glad it worked out!

I had the same problem and it was caused by apps that changed my screen. For me in particular it was twilight.

I recently put smear state apk. Do you think that has anything to do with it?

It's worth a try. Uninstall it and try installing another apk.

Can't install Google Play Services

Help! I updated my youtube to the latest version and now I can't use it anymore! When I open youtube, it says that I need to install Google Play Services. So I go to playstore and install it. But then it tells me something about shared user id or something like that, and then it doesn't install. Please help me!!

Says "invalid link"

'com.lge.fmradio.apk' is unavailable. This file was deleted.

Same. The manifest seems to reference some hidden menu. Anyway, it's beyond my understanding. Hopefully brighter minds can help

It doesnt work like that guys,you cant just install it.It goes along with more than one file ( i think 3..) and there is work to be done possibly from a developer,in order for the phone to recognize it.

I was kind of thinking that we would need more then just the one file.

This. Works perfectly for Sprint LS980 - not sure about other carriers.

NextRadio only lists compatibility with some Sprint phones. I don't know if OP can somehow sideload it to make it work.

No - but you can use Mike Reid's Spirit2 - works well on CM11

Simply Search for "CROM Service" and you will find it.

Proberly because the site the op directed us to was in Chinese . Well I think it's Chinese. LoL
Which is why I warned of all the permitions its asking for. Could be a fake / malware. Be careful.

okay i found crom services but its asking me to sign up for a samsung account and the message is all in chinese,
even though the device has been switched to English there is still CHinese, i think its rea`lly cool that this crom thing is here, but what OS do we install afterwards?
anyone have a guide on what to do for the samsung sign up?

Where did you find the CROM services? I agree though that its really weird that a locked bootloader on ATT would still have message about warning about installing custom OS with continue or cancel.

i could be completely stupid to say this, but are you posting in the right area?
i thought this was for the chinese model, im not sure if US variants have the crom thing.... unless you have a chinese AT& T one?

Hi Guys, This should be ONLY for the Chinese variant of the Samsung Edge, However I fully believe the app can be ported over. Don't download from Chinese Site, it is probably malware. I downloaded mine directly from Samsung App store.
If anyone knows how to export apps from the samsung app store, I would happily try to grab the app for you guys.
I can also translate the step by step if you guys give me the screenshots you guys are seeing.

I've got a couple versions of the apk posted on xda. It looks like it's failing on version or class checker, I'm trying to get some dev attention but not so much yet.

Anyway, I've installed android studio and I'm going to take a crack at it but I haven't scripted anything in years so no promises. My feeling is that it can be adapted for different regions.
