This is the custom verizon version.
Is there any way to get around this or there hasn't been a way to use other sims on this phone?
I tried messing around with mobile type (GSM,etc) and nothing works. My tmobile sim card simply gets no signal.

You have to change the APN settings in Settings ->More Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names.

Nope, APN is used for data connection. OP's problem is no network registration.
I found the problem guys, the IMEI has been blacklisted, the phone is unlocked.
I got this phone cause its been in lost and found for 6 months at my hotel so we were gonna throw it out anyways.
What do I do now? I tried contacting tmobile but they can't unblock it for that.

Besides having the original owner getting it removed from the blacklist through Verizon, nothing can be done.
There's a shared IMEI blacklist among all of the major U.S. carriers now, so if it's blacklisted on one, it's blacklisted on them all.

I have a dumb question.
If i lost my hd2 and i have insurr on the phone, I get a new one after paying the deductible. If i ever found the lost hd2 or somebody else found it what happens ?
is it rendered useless by tmobile or the guy that found it can still use it when he pops in his sim ?
thanks,

thats very subtle.
In the UK, I was told by my retailer that a lost phone can be blocked from accessing the network and that this was done as soon as a phone became an insurance write-off. I don't know what constitutes 'the network' in this case.

In the UK, the re-found phone now belongs to the insurance company.
Every network knows the IMEI numbers that are accessing their network. They will block any IMEI's that are reported lost or stolen and add it to the black list.
In the UK our phnes would be blacklisted as soon as reported lost or stolen by the networ operator, if you havent recieved your replacement there isa tiny chance th network may un-blacklist your phone but a ver small chance, and for using it in a different country erm im not telling you,............... lol
there is a site that for ~£2 can verify a phone by IMEI if is stolen.
there are some free sites also that can verify if the IMEI is blacklisted.
i think black list is international and it will not work any ware on this planet if blacklisted.

The IMEI number is used by the GSM network to identify valid devices and therefore can be used to stop a stolen phone from accessing the network in that country. For example, if a mobile phone is stolen, the owner can call his or her network provider and instruct them to "ban" the phone using its IMEI number. This renders the phone useless in that country, whether or not the phone's SIM is changed. However, the phone can be used abroad.

In other words, you can not claim the insurance without make a report to the police, then, that phone is blocked by the network(useless after that) and if all goes right you get a new one.
Just a question, does the insurance pay if you lost it? Or is just if is stolen?

I guess it would depend on what you are covered for, im covered with Virgin for anything, so even if i throw it at a wall drop down the toilet im covered i will get areplacement, my friend is only covered if its stolen so depends who you cover is with and what thre T&C's are.

IMEI blacklists are only vaild in the country the phone was barred from. So it goes without saying you could take it to another countrys cellular network and use it with a different SIM.

It's impossible to unblock a blocked IMEI number, once it's been blocked it's usless in that country.

I'm having a dispute with tmousa regarding them locking my phone to their network. I own my phone but put one of their prepaid sim cards in my phone. I guess they thought it was one of their phones and they locked my imei number to their network. Now for over a month I have been trying to get them to provide me with the network sim unlock pin so I can take my phone to another network but they're saying my phone has been modified and they can't find my imei number in their database so my phone is basically a brick now. They claimed they contacted HTC to get the number with no luck. Is there anything that I can possibly do now? Thanks.

IMO you should contact one of the ebay's unlockers and check if your IMEI is unlockable(it is cheap to unlock, about 2-5US$).

Wow thanks for the eBay tip! Just paid for the code so waiting for it now... I thought this was a different type of lock. I thought the Rom itself (tbd sense) unlocked the phone to other networks but I tried a wipe and re-flash and it was still locked so I should have asked the question sooner. Will post the result.

Also just so you know it was not the sim card you put in it that placed a lock on the device to just use T-Mobile. The lock was on the device from factory, all US cellular providers do this to all devices they sell. It is a effort by the providers to keep you from changing providers so easily. They figure if you have to buy another device to change providers you would not be so willing to change to another provider because it will hit you in the pocket book harder. It is a very under handed practice in my opinion and should not be illegal. We pay for ower devices and should be able to use them how we want and with what ever provider we want. But then again we live in the worlds greatest country right.......what a joke.
I have had an HD2 since they first arrived at T-Mobile. As stated, all phones in the US are carrier locked by default.
It was easy for me to have mine unlocked. I called T-Mobile and told them I would be traveling out of the country. I asked for the unlock, gave them my IMEI, and serial (maybe). That was all it took. I got a text message with the code.

In that case, if it where me, I would use The Advanced Ace Hack Kit to root and Super CID your device that will SIM unlock the device permanently, the only proviso is it may erase all your data so make sure it's synced with the Google servers etc., etc

Yes, Not all unlocked phones work with all sim cards. Some carriers lock their sims, so you have to ask for a new sim. The Hack Kit sim unlocks the devices but not the SIM restriction set by the carrier.

Yes, I was just thinking the same. I will with some more research on the subject.
It would be worth trying with a different sim. If one of your mates are on a different network try theirs otherwise pick up a free payg sim. At least you will know if it is the phone or the sim then.

Man, I has a low reputation here, but it isn't because I'm noob. It's because I don't post messages here and there ( I'm just trying to keep threads clean and read threads attentively). But I'm enough experienced in your problem. I'm in judicial process with my local shop now, due to exactly your problem. Forget about bad contacts, IMEI's, locks and other I've tried all means that I could find in the internet since 2011, every! And all of the threads connected with your problem begins with "bad metal contacts/ sim card changes/ locks/ unlocks/ roms/ radiomodules/ flashing etc". But It's just a faulty phone[!/B]. Belive me. All this threads ends with something like "any solutions? somebody? " There is no solution for this from at least 2010 year. Don't waste your time and bring your device back to your retailer if you can. I has evidences and prooflinks, and can give them later. Now, I just suddenly have found your post while serching new info in the internet for TODAYS judicial session. So don't reduce my "Thanks Meter" at least till you ask prooflinks. And I'm "beging" you: "just bring your phone back to retailer"
Added few minutes later:
1) I know that it is a bug in the OS-Hardware-controller_flash junction and we all won't find solution because it is very specific.
Here is the answer of t-mobile service. And the core phrase is "If you've messed around with apn settings or something that'll cause errors to, so try a factory reset just to make 100% sure there's a hardware issue." You do not need to fix so hard bug- they should make appropriate devices.

2) A guy whom t-mobile sent a new phone and admited it was manufacturer's bug

I feel my problem is unlike others i have read about for the last few hours...
bought a phone off craigslist
s4 sgh-i337 on telus in Canada.
went to put a telus sim in and it recognizes that its in there (so sim tray must work..) but i get "Not registered on network" problem...
tried 3 different telus sims, all do the same thing..
my IMEI matches the one on the physical phone so all good there?
its not rooted as i downloaded root checker and i restored it back to factory twice...
i just want service it does not make calls or texts. everything else is fine..
what gives.. thanks for any help sorry if this specific issue has been covered!

Go to settings>>more netowrks>>mobile networks>>network operators..let it search then choose Telus, if it works you should see a message "registered on network" watch for it because it disappears after a few seconds.
The other thing you should check is that the network is actually up, not sure which part of the country you are in but you might want to check the Telus site to make sure they aren't just having network issues.... happened in Calgary a few months ago....
Also check network mode in settings should be set to lte/wcdma/gsm lol I set mine to GSM only and nothing worked....

So having further checked into the phone, the IMEI is blacklisted and reported lost or stolen.... That's why it worked at first and now does not!
