copresGcore_EventLoop wakelock eating battery - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello sinc the past few days I'm having this wakelock eating my battery. I tried to research what it is with very little success. I updated my rom to the latest slimkat and gapps with little success. Anybody had the same problem? Thank you

Same here
getting the same , keep awake solid 100% by this Google play services wake lock, any ideas on how to stop it would be greatly appreciated.

Fixed my problem with copresGcore_eventloop
Ok, so awhile back I followed some tweaks to Google play services to save battery drain, see this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-google-play-services-battery-t2832525
Which worked rather well, but since the latest Google play services update went in I started getting the 'no deep sleep/keep awake' issue that BBS and GSAM showed as being caused by copresGcore_eventloop .
What I did was just reverse the tweaks in android tuner , and also removed my Google account and added it back and then rebooted. This has fixed my issue with copresGcore_eventloop .
I have not yet had time to see if reapplying the tweaks would start the issues again but likely will try that soon and will try to post back results.

After disabling some services I saw this wakelock today as well for the first time.
To fix the problem it was enough to re-enable
Code:
com.google.android.location.reporting.service.PreferenceService

Wow! Was it a magic?

I have a whole bunch of disabled location-related services (cause I need GPS but don't need all other location facilities). But this service was THE one! After reenabling it abnormal wakelocks are gone! Thank you very much!

Could you please post your list of disabled services? I am not sure which
services to disable in order to get rid of the network location stuff, I also
need only GPS via satellite.

Here is it (via ol' good Disable Service):
Code:

com.google.android.gms.subscribedfeeds.SyncService
[STRIKE]com.google.android.gms.update.SystemUpdateService[/STRIKE] (UPD at June 2015: do NOT disable this service, with new version of Google Framework it leads to not sleeping system)
com.google.android.gms.wearable.service.WearableService
It is a full list of Google services disabled on my system (Xperia Ray SJB8 CM10). Probably, some of them aren't disabled by me but by some software due to appropriate settings.
Obviously, I do not recommend in any way to do such hacks on other systems. It is just my weird brutal parascientific experience. Kekeke.

What app is everyone using to disable these services? Thanks

I saw copresGcore_Eventloop wakelock in BBS. I then saw under Settings > Battery represented as Google Play Services. I then experimented with Greenify, DisableServices and using Titanium Pro to freeze apps following the link provided in the first few posts of this thread. All were very interesting but caused notifications about problems with Google Play Services. I'm on 4.4.2 and stumbled across App Ops in System Settings. I tapped on Google Play Services and unchecked a bunch of elements I don't use and it now doesn't appear on the list in battery. I have two google accounts, one is only used to share Google Play Music with my wife. I unchecked all the boxes on that account. I think there is a bug relating to having two google accounts.

always running service: Media > DownloadService

hi guys, I always see Media > DownloadService in running apps.. why it is running all the time? and, being running all the time, is it supposed to drain my battery faster?
I have always lived with that, but if it drains my battery faster I would like to get rid of it..
EDIT: it seems to me it is related to GMAIL.. in fact, after a reinstall, download service process was not there until I started gmail for the first time.. now it is always there again..
can you guys using gmail confirm you have media download service always running?
and people who has not gmail installed can confirm they don't see that process always running? thanks!

hi guys, just a question.. is that normal that I always see maps in running apps? I use maps once per month or even less, so why it should be running all the time? (maps > PrefetcherService)
and, being running all the time, is it supposed to drain my battery faster?
I have always lived with that, but if it drains my battery faster I would like to get rid of it..
the same happens also for "media" (media > DownlodService..... what is that? can I remove it?) and google play music (MusicPlaybackService)
it is really annoying for me to see them always running even when I am not using them....
any suggestion? thanks in advance!!

It happens with me too. I used Greenify and it stopped appearing until the 4.1.6 play store update. Now maps opens automatically almost every 2 minutes. You might not get a significant change in battery life. You can remove google play music though. I don't know about the media download service, might be related to browser or google play music (I recommend not removing it).
thanks for the answer. I tried greenify too and it seems to correctly remove maps here.. (I too have play store 4.1.6, will update to 4.1.10 in a short time btw )
about play music.. I use it, so I can't remove it! btw I greenified it too, so it shouldn't bother anymore
so the only pending problems are media service and also play store (pendingnotification service) that is appearing sometimes in running apps.. unfortunately they are system apps so I can not greenify them
The pendingnotification service might have appeared because of the option to notify you of an update. And yes, the pro version has that feature of hibernating system apps (but its experimental) and god knows what might happen if you do.
of course I disabled the notification and auto update via WiFi options and rebooted but the service kept appearing in running apps sometimes..
as x the media running service, it seems I fixed it removing mediauploader.apk it has not appeared again so far after removing that package!
so all seems good now thanks all!
Sent from my MB526 using Tapatalk 2
EDIT: media downloadservice is back again so it was not related to mediauploader... what the hell can be that??
it seems to me it appeared after running gmail for the first time.. but I will have to confirm that after some more investigations..
after some more attempts, i found out the process: media > DownlodService is related to both gapps and Downloadprovider.apk
if I remove Downloadprovider.apk, that process doesn't appear anymore, but I get gapps FC's (and very probably will not be possible to download anymore things from the browser and/or play store)
so in conclusion it seems to me we have to live with that process running, and that is not possible to really get rid of it safely..
Yup, made that mistake of deleting Downloadservice.apk... Drove me nuts with FCs
so nobody could get rid of that process? you too have it always running?

:silly: Strangely, no, its not always running for me.
It seems to run when I download something in a browser and then disappears after 15 minutes or so

thanks
it seems to me after I installed latest maps 7.x the media > download process is not appearing anymore in running processes.. maybe it was related to sh*tty maps??? :fingers-crossed: :fingers-crossed:

"Google Services" High Data Usage

I'm very confused with my wife's N4. "Google Services" has used ~1.5GB of data in the last 3 days. My wife uses her phone for facebook and texting. She doesn't have any data heavy apps. Any ideas on what do to stop this from continuing?
Maybe try turning off location services or maybe try backing up everything and do a factory reset?

I tried doing that, and disabiling background data for it through battery manager, but that eliminates all google sync. I eventually just backed things up and moved on to a newer rom. Like I said, it is my wife's phone and didn't feel like trying to figure out the root cause. If it were my phone, I'd be more patient. Hopefully you can find an answer. 500MB a day is nuts. Glad we're on "unlimited" with StraightTalk.
My brother and I just got the same problem as well. He has been on Paranoid for over 3 months and just yesterday Google Services used up 1.5gb out of no where (in a few hours). Just today, im on Carbon, my Google Services used up 500mb (in a few hours). Thankfully, I noticed that my battery was going too fast so I went in and turnd off background data for Google Services.
Any one have an idea of what is going on?
I noticed this problem on my phone a couple of weeks ago and asked about it here. Unfortunately no one knows what's really going on.

System Update Issue
I've noticed this same issue since i updated all my Google Play applications last 07/30. Before the update, I did not have this high bandwidth consumption.
Anyways, i've been researching in my phone and tried the following solutions:
First, I restricted Google Services background data, this did not work, it was still consuming my data. So I kept researching and found something interesting, i went to About Phone - System Update, and noticed my phone was consistently trying to update to 4.3 JB (which is 183 MB), and after the download was complete, then a "verification failed" error message was displayed.
At this point, i thought, This is probably the cause i've been losing all of my data. I am running ParanAndroid along with franco kernel for some time, maybe this is the reason the update is failing.
So, a rough solution i did to this meanwhile: Go to Settings -> Apps -> All and disable Google Services Framework, this will ensure that the update is not constantly being downloaded, however, many Google applications will have issues.
Guys I am facing such extremely annoying Google Services (DownloadManager in BBS) battery drain + mobile/wifi data usage issue and I have been searching for some hours.
First of all I have tried the most answered solution - clearing the data of all those stuffs related to Google Services - well it did not work so well.
Then I don't think freezing download manager / factory reset / restrict background data / disabling google services framework are good solutions as I myself did not make changes related to this recently so a factory reset should not be needed, plus the other mentioned solutions would cause syncing issues with Google and this doesn't suit my lifestyle of heavily depending on various google services.
Many of you have proposed that the massive download / repeated downloads are related to downloading the 4.3 OTA and that might be possible according to the similar file sizes as well as logcats you have found. But on the other hand one of the solution - disabling Network Locations settings has also stopped the "download" triangle from constantly staying there when my wifi is on. Therefore we can conclude that it is partially related to the 4.3 OTA download which cannot be disabled on our custom ROMs, as well as partially about the stock Network Location settings.
Fortunately after many posts that do not provide a feasible answer I have found this xda post which addresses the issue related to the Google Play Store 4.1.6. Some of the users have reported that 4.1.10 has fixed the issue and some even said the newest version 4.2.9 is over the internet since 25/7 together with 4.3 update.
Not sure why such critical update did not roll out to the unluckily bunch of us from Google, but I have found the Android Police source about 4.1.10 fixing the "Network Location bug which hogs the battery" and hopefully this will stop the DownloadManager wakelock as well as the crazy battery drain + data drain by Google Services.
I haven't tested this thoroughly because I will probably need a day to check out whether it stops the crazy behaviour but I would just like to share with you guys my founding as soon as possible so you guys can try it out together with me. The latest Google Play Store 4.2.9 apk can be downloaded from Android Police here.
Hope I have helped! Good luck to you and me!

Hi and thanks for sharing your investigation and findings so far. I looked at my Nexus 4 tonight and saw that it had downloaded 500mb over 3G so I disabled it and started searching for an answer. Definitely looks to be the OTA 4.3 issue, but installing Play Store 4.2.9 has done nothing for me. My phone has just sucked down another 500mb over WiFi under the "Google Play Services" heading and shows no signs of stopping.
I'm running CM 10.1 stable - really need a fix for this because otherwise I can't enable 3G without burning my whole quota in short order.
Darn, had this same problem, in one day 500mb over 3G.... Thats not cool.
Recently installed a new ROM, Cyanogenmod 10.1, and I think I found the problem. The gallery app was synching all photo's on my G+ account it seems.
Hope I nailed it, because we just went on holiday today and I need my data for finding information etcetrea. But I think this is it, as I can view photo's from vacations made decades ago whoile phone is in airplanemode...
Hope this helps others with this problem...
This is exactly the root cause. I've just lost a gig on 3G today. I'm on wifi now and update just keeping download & verification fail loop. I'm on PA Rom.

Here's how to disable the OTA download on any ROM
Install Autorun Manager from the Play store.
Then enter its recommended advanced mode.
Go into the settings and enable the following : system entries and system app disable.
Disable com.android.gsf.update.SystemUpdateService$Reciever under Google Service Framework

You can try this
It is definitely something to do with the 4.3 update. I was on PA 3.6 (Android 4.2.2) and had this problem. After upgrading my phone to Android 4.3 on the latest PA, I no longer have this issue. I think it is a problem in the ROM where they tried to remove the OTA feature, but instead it still tries to download the ROM via 3G in the background. Don't quote me on the above, but that is the only thing that makes sense to me!
Since I've reached my limit for the month (and I'm not even half way through doh), I have had to disable Mobile Data otherwise I would have had a hefty bill come through!

Google Play Services taking up too much battery?

Lately when i go to check my battery percentage, usually the screen would take up most of the battery, but now i see google services taking up way more than my screen.
Google Services takes up 38%, while Screen takes up 29% in the battery setting menu.
Although I'm running a Modified version of TouchWiz, I know it's not the rom because I've been on this rom for a month now and this has only been happening recently.
Has this been happening to anyone?
I'm thinking it's the new playstore update.

Battery Drain Issue..Kernel or Google Services ? ?

Hello everyone um using OMEGA V14 with PERSUS kernel ALPHA9...um having a battery drain issue on my GT-i9500 ...i have calibrated my battery 2-3 times by discharging it completely to 0 and dn again to 100 widout break...And i have used WAKE LOCK DETECTOR (downloaded from playstore) to see which app or whatever that thing is causing a huge battery drain issue.I have uploaded 2 screenshots One is of CPU and other is of KERNEL...Now i wana know few things :
1. How to stop GOOGLE SERVICES from eating up my battery? i get hardly 3 or 3 n half hours of screen on timing and wid standby total of 12-13 hours...I have also disabled SYNC and location settings and GPS and using greenify too.
2.IN CPU WAKELOCKS>>>What is 1013?when i click on it for info it shows info as Audioout_2 and TYPE :SYSTEM(MEDIA).
3.IN KERNEL WAKELOCKS>> What is l2_hsic? This time it showed just 1 h and 7m...before it was 3-4 hours...
4.IN KERNEL WAKELOCKS>> What is umts_ipco ? It also showed less time as before it was same like l2_hsic.
5:IN KERNEL WAKELOCKS>> What is exynos5-fb.1 ? exynos is the process as far as i know :/ but what about fb ? FACEBOOK ?
These are the main issues which are draining my battery like hell..if anyone has knowledge about the above questions plz allow me to learn something from you thanks ...
Hey mate
I had the same issue as you.
Most likey google play updated to 4.3.11 or something like that.
You need the 4.1.10 I've got 4.3.10 and its back to normal.
The updated app turns on some sort of hidden location services and polls ever so often.
Go to settings then apps. Then find google play then click on uninstall updates. Restore previous update.
Hope that helps.

Google play services is the main big issue for the battery drained.
I have manage to stop Google play services after following this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35755907&postcount=11160
my battery now can last between 2-3 and a half days with moderate usage.

same problem mate, when I turn off location services, use goes down, google needs to sort this, same problem on HTC one, there is some bug in google now, nexus 4 users were suffering the same, but google was prompt to close the bug, we all know all these other devices are treated like stepson:laugh::laugh:
Same here
I had the same problem i figured out thanks to better battery stats that the problem was partial wakelock called audioout_2. It just didnt let the phone to go sleep. I figured that real racing 3 caused this! if you play that game just close it (hold menu button and swipe it off) and now it isnt draining so much (i know it is called google services but strangely real racing did this just try it)
but if you are not playing this game it could be caused by other app just install better battery stats charge phone to 100% and let it be overnight and in the morning look to better battery stats what causes your wakelocks
proof that it is counted as google services in attachement and tomorow i can add stats from this night when i will just close real racing
+1... But it's not happening everyday to me, just sometimes... But with same usage...
I am witnessing this for approximately 3 months, very sad with this…

A reboot would fix this. I experience this after I use google maps which is very stupid.
Recently noticed the same, it is so ridiculous! So I went to Settings -More tab -Location Services -unmarked WiFi&mobile network location -Restarted and all is good!
Google MUST fix this!!
Plagued me when i got my S4, turning off Sync and GPS will prevent most if not all, but as people will point out...if you do that you lose Google Now and some other google syncing services.
This is what ive been doing at night or when im not using those apps...
Not the perfect scenario and google does need to fix this asap.
Nothing to be alarmed. Probably it is just location history being recorded.
Btw 4.3 does wifi location even with wifi off. Just making sure there is a real time location even after you selected to switch both gps and Wifi off.
/Sarcasm off
Forgot to add, you can turn location services and history off via settings (no need for root).

You disabled google maps?
If you are rooted you can try to use Greenify to "freeze" apps like google maps when your display is switched off.
It reduced my wakelocks to a minimum.

Can someone please tell me why Google services is using that much battery. Is it a wake lock or something? Anyone had a similar experience? How can I stop it from using this much data?
Thank you

I had the same problem. In my case i found that the google contacts were syncing all the time. every minute.
The only way to stop draining the the baterry was to stop the sync. i activate ir ones a week to keep by contacts in gmail.
The problem was solved after Samsung deliver a new version.
+1
Guys i already told you that it is caused because of some app but it is shown as google services which isnt true!
Look at first attached file this is like 28% after 10 and half hours on battery (i was sleeping) with wifi off but mobile data on and google contact sync, gmail, app data and chrome on and with google location services on (via networks, GPS was off ) and i didnt closed any apps with holding home button and swiping them off
Second attached file is same setting but i closed all apps and look it drained 11% after 18 hours 49mins (i was sleeping and in work and left my phone home because of this testing) which is great standby battery life (nearly 8 days 100% - 0 % ) and as you can see still it say that google services drained 89% of it but battery life is better than in first attachement
I investigated it and found out that Real racing 3 didnt let my phone to go to sleep and it was because of kernel wakelock AudioOut_8 and some other apps like skype can do the same so my advice is close apps before long standby it helps just try it and you can even figure out which one did it
PS: Sorry for my english its not my native language but i think you will get what i mean
Thanks for the thread @ChampMEon
I've had the same issues. But seems like 4.3 have improved on it!
