Hi,
I have a Samsung galaxy S5, and the phone keeps dropping the WiFi constantly, and notifies me every time with a notification "Sign into WiFi network" (I don't have to sign into my WiFi network), and after a while (like ~5mins) it disconnects by itself with this message"Your Device has been disconnected from this network, your session has timed out". I have done the following things:
- Disable Smart Network Switch -- No Help
- Keep WiFi on during sleep (always) -- No Help
- Always allow scanning (checked) -- No Help
- WiFi timer (disabled) -- No Help
- Forget the network and reconnect with the network -- No Help
- Tried both 2.4GHz an 5GHz frequencies -- No Help
- Changed ROM (at first it was XtreStoLite then I have changed it to OmegaROM) -- No help
- Flashed Stock ROM (firmware) with Odin (UK-ROM-OPEN) -- No Help
- Wiped everything (Data, user Data, System, ...) -- No Help
- Changed Router's SSID -- No Help
- Reset Modem's Settings -- No Help
- Changed Network Channels -- No Help
- Changed Network pre-shared key - Password -- No Help
BTW: I have like 10 devices in my Home and none of them have problem with my network, So I assume the problem should be from the S5!
Device: Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F
Modem: Netgear R7000 Nighthawk
It will be greatly appreciated if anyone could give me another solution.

Just wondering, are you using a particular custom ROM ? If so maybe try another one to see if it fixes the issues.
Also if you could can you get a logcat of before and during the error occurs and i will look through it see if i can point out the problem.

Thanks for your reply, Yeah at first I used "XtreStoLite " then OmegaROM, after OmegaROM, Stock ROM, and now I'm back to OmegaROM, at first the problem solved but after I have restarted my phone, the problem came back.
I have created a logcat using adb, I hope it helps.

Does this happen on other wifi networks or just your home Wifi, as it appears that it is down fluctiuations in Wifi Signal, i would suggest changing the Wifi Channel Settings on your home Wifi Router to another channel.
The LogCat shows the changes in signal stregnth followed by a network drop, it at no point says that the Wifi Module has turned off !

Thanks for your reply, I've changed the Wifi channel like you said, but no luck, I've flashed a AOSP ROM (Cyanogenmod) and now the problem is gone, no problem at all, so I'm glad that there is no issue with the wireless adapter, I assume, that this problem is related to Samsung's Touchwiz based ROMs , maybe changing modems will solve this issue ?

In that case i would try donwloading a stock ODIN firmware from Sammobile.com and then installing that Via Odin, looks like it could be a baseband issue !
I would go to sam firmware and then choose the correct ODIN software for your device and try that !
I bet it fixes it. Also as you have installed CyanogenMOD i would try installing a different Kernel Also as this may be causing you a problem.
wifi disconnect
I had the same problem on my Gs5 on my work wifi.. was a google.client issue. This thread worked for me.. i had to do "plan b" and enter the stuff into the network config of the phone, actually used the inputs from one of the replies:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/and.../howto-wifi-drop-caused-sign-to-wifi-t2862509
Had previously tried everything you listed as well.
Related
I have done hard reset and soft resets and still my wifi is not connecting.
Finally my EDGE is working great but wifi not. Whenever I try to connect my SSID is set to "EMC Wireless Internal" channel 11. I have no idea where this cam from but I can not get rid of it. I have a new FIOS Actiontec router with wireless enabled to my network name, channel 10. And Hitchhiker tries to connect but it keeps getting bumped off.
I have gone into MediaNet and turned off the proxy and checked for it to go onto the internet on Cingular GPRS.
I have not had a problem connecting before on wifi. I wonder if the router is a problem here, or if my phone settings are screwed up.
And ideas?
Thanks
The WiFi - EDGE contengency
*The Bad News*
By default, if EDGE/GPRS is configured to work, WiFi is rendered useless.
You didnt mention what carrier you have. I have Cingular and they even state on there website that If you configure the Edge/GRPS to connect, then WiFi may not work.
*The Good news*
I have my 8125 working with both Edge and WiFi. Heres what I did:
1. Open Connnections and click on the 'ADVANCED' tab.
2. Click on 'SELECT NETWORKS'.
3. The top pull down should be set to 'MY ISP' or, if you have named your WiFi connection something different, select it here.
4. Click 'EDIT' under this pull down and set connection to 'AUTO PICK'. 'OK' back to Network Management screen.
5. The bottom pull down should be set to 'MEDIA NE'T.
6. Click on 'EDIT' under this pull down. This is where you will set up EDGE using your carrier's settings.
7. 'OK' your way back out. Your done.
These settings let WiFi try to connect first. If no WiFi is available then EDGE/GPRS is used.
Good Luck!
Thank you! Worked for me, but videos streamed from orb still aren't working
Wierd-Fi
I also have WiFi problems after installing HTC official upgrade
ROM 2.25.11.1 WWE
Date 5/11/06
Radio 02.25.11
Protocol 4.1.13.12
ExtROM 2.25.11.102
Everything is great except after successful connection to home WiFi it disconnects after maybe 5 to 15 seconds ... network becomes "unavailable" .. no error message. This happens even when not connected to CIngular EDGE/GPRS (flight mode ON then, individually enable WiFi ON for what that's worth). When I delete my home network WiFi entry to force a re-recognition and setup, it recognizes the wireless net just fine (again) but same behavior.
All my settings are already set as suggested by ralugniC8125 in this thread. I had not tried any of the other ROMs with added features/hacks/fixes found on this website ... would any of them behave differently, you think? PHone was bought from Cingular .. I have not done any unlock procedure (don't really need to from a service standpoint but will if necessary to make a new ROM work right).
Any thoughts appreciated...

I have just purchased an unlocked Tilt from eBay. I have been scanning the wiki for days now, along with other sources, and to no avail. I still cannot get my WiFi to work properly. If any one has had this issue and has found a solution, I would love to know it!
ok, here's a suggestion since none of you have mentioned it.
Diable the MAC (Media Access Control) Binding on the router. This should help.
Maybe yall can help me now I have it attempting to connect however it only connects to gprs and it even shows it has a great wifi signal
Still Wifi-less and Woeful

Thanks for the suggestion. This did not help unfortunately. I should mention that I have tried to access several different types of routers... with and without security, and while they are showing up as being available, they will not stay connected for more than a second or two.
Any other possibilities?
Hi, I've some problem with wifi connections. I own a lynksis wag54g2 wifi router. I can establish a connection, but after some times (it's not standard, it may vary), my device disconnect from the router and it's not able to reconnect. All that i can do is plug off my router (i take off the ac adapter) and when it's up again my phone can connect. it's very frustating, but i don't know what to do? i've tried setting something in wifi preferences' on my phone but nothing change. i've also flashed my firmware to the new one, hoping that it could fix that problem, but it didn't. someone could help me?
you can update the firmware to a newer one. this would fix your problem.

Hello.
I have a problem with WIFI on Galaxy 5 (i5500)(Europa) too. They have already changed my phone with new one, but the issue remains. So, for the second time now, I was able to connect my phone to my router for the first time, but after the first interruption or disconnection of WIFI I could not access to wifi anymore.
When I enable wifi in the phone starts ''connecting'' but then reports ''interrupted'' eventhough the signal is recognised as strong.
Firmwire version is the latest available. Router is encrypted with WPA2. Also I can access to router with my HTC Tattoo (Click).
Does anyone know the solution?
I have a decision to make(today), becouse If there is no solution to this I will change to another phone as I still can (Galaxy Spica).
Advise please.
Thanks a lot
What router do you have? have you tried with any other wifi network? i said that because my have this problem only with my router, and not for example with my girlfriend's one.
I found a little fix for my router, linksys wag54g2: open up the config page (192.168.1.1), go for wireless tab, select protection page and click on save settings. that reload the router and my phone is able to connect again.
Hi.
Thanks for your advice. There is some problem with router.. When I restart router the wifi on the phone works until swiched off or interruption becouse being out of range. When I try to connect to wifi again does not work unless I restart router again. ..catchy.. Interfering with mobile connection also makes the drop of wireless connection on my computer, so I need to restart router. I don't know the permanent solution. If anyone has any idea how repair this forever please let me know.
Best,
Thanks
Hi,
Here is my problem with my wifi with the galaxy 550.
For security reasons, my wifi network can't be detected (invisible). If i want to connect a new device by wifi, I must first set my wifi visible and then register my device.
Then I set my wifi as invisible again and the device can connect automaticaly to my network without "seeing" my wifi network.
Problem is that once i set my wifi as invisible again, my galaxy fail to connect because the network is unvisible.
Is there anyway to fix this ?
I have just read similar post on another thread and replied find it here
I ahvent installed anything, perhaps its to do with the handset if its locked to a particular carrier? just a guess and a question...
cheers

I have an answer! Hope it works for you.
My provider gave me really easy solution for wifi connection not connecting even though it was my own network with all the right info. It worked great the first time, then for some reason the phone locked in the "off" position. So I removed the battery to reboot (later learned the right way by pushing the volume button on the left and the power button at the same time)
Anyway, try this....
turn phone off - remove battery - remove sim card - wait a few minutes - reassemble - then the network should log on with no problem.....Good luck!

Hello,
I've already searched the forum for an answer but I've been unable to find any solution.
I have a GT-i9505 Galaxy S4 with Omega ROM. I though flashing a new rom will help me but it's the same.
Everytime I walk away from my router, it automatically sets the wifi as "Network disabled because internet connection is slow" and won't connect again. I have to manually click connect to force it to connect it. Also, when I'm in my University, it keeps disconnecting for the same.
How can I avoid this and force it to stay connected? Do I need to flash some custom modem or something?
Thanks

TRY THESE STEPS
1) Settings => Connections and tap Wi-Fi. Then tap Menu and make sure Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep is set to Always.
2) Turn off Wi-Fi power save mode on your S4. Type *#0011# on the phone dialer, then Menu => Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi power save mode to Off. (WORKED FOR ME)
3) Or change your router settings to 802.11 model
Galaxy S4 wifi non-connection/drop out NEW FIX
Had a problem for ages with my S4 not connecting to wifi and therefore no internet, no updates etc. My router is a Netcomm NB6Plus4Wn but this may work with most routers.
It would constantly go through the authentication, secured/saved cycle but rarely actually got an ip address.
After trial and error I found this worked straight away and it is a very easy fix.
Go to your router settings page, then wireless settings, look for Primary Channel setting.
There may be a (Lower/Upper selection) - tick the LOWER radio button and apply changes. Let router reboot.
Note I also use WPA/TKIP settings for security.
Test your S4.
Mine was set to Upper Primary Channel previously and as soon as I changed that setting to Lower Channel wifi and internet worked immediately.
I hope this helps some people with this common problem as I know how frustrating it can be.
Cheers
wifi verification problem
galaxy s4 GT-I9500 running pac-man rom. just started getting verification problem connecting to my linksys router one foot from my phone.
did the following on my phone: settings, Wi-Fi, settings, wps pin entry, msg reads " enter pin xxxxxxxxxx on your Wi-Fi router." where xxxxxxxxx is a number.
logged on to my router, clicked on Wi-Fi tab, under Wi-Fi protected setup, it asked me to enter the wps pin number from my phone. I did and after a minute or so, it indicated success and now my phone connects to Wi-Fi
weird. my phone connected for months without this procedure but just started failing today. thanks to the one who suggested checking the router setup.

I recently ran into the same problem and my wi-fi button wouldn't come on no matter what I did. Finally, I took the phone to Best buy as the now have a Samsung store there and the guy reflashed my phone with the 4.3 update free of charge and it worked. When I got home I rooted over my phone and now my wifi works fine. Hope this helps.

No, and the reason that we don't know is that you didn't provide any useful details about your situation.
If you think that someone can do more than make a random guess implies that you think that there are only one or two possible causes. But most issues, including this one, have hundreds of possible causes. So random guesses are not terribly useful. Nor are we psychic, so the only way to efficiently narrow it down is to look for anomolies in your configuration. Which you haven't described.
You should be providing as much technical detail as possible, e.g. what is your home router model & it's firmware version and configuration details, phone firmware version, any specific error messages, any observed pattern, a logcat if you can and anything else that seems relevant.

Have you tried changing the channel on your router?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Change the router channel
Change the router SSID
Default the router comfiguration
Change the router operating mode
Update the router firmware
Move the router to a different location
Use a different router
Unplug your neighbours new 50,000 watt pirate radio station
Update your phone firmware
Buy a different phone
Sacrifice a piece of triple chocolate gnocche cake to the pagan God of chocolate and wifi
All random guesses with roughly equivalent (and small) chances of success.
Or one could try troubleshooting the issue methodically.

Hey guys,
I had this problem before, This is an issue with your samsung device and your ISP. They aren't compatible with each other.
Solution:
You must just block clients3.google.com in your modem/router. You can use Block Web Sites section in your modem/router.
Every thing has a solution.
Enjoy your device WIFI.

I have teh same issue on my S5 Cricket. The WIFI does NOT disconnect. Its connected however I don't have internet connection. Turning the WIFI on and OFF fixes the issue, for a short while until it happens again in an hour. Sometimes I slick on a link and wait and wait just to find out the darn WIFI is not connected to the internet. (probably not even connected to my router properly eg, I cant see my laptop shared drives for example).
This has something to do with saving battery or somthing. WIFI internals shut down, even though the icon on top of the screen still shows I'm connected.

Your phone thinks that your WiFi is unstable and dumps the connection to go back to 4g. Why exactly, who knows, but it's easy to turn off the "smart" network switch. Simply hold down the WiFi icon for 2 seconds to get into the connections section. Right there at the top is the smart network switch section ... just uncheck the selection box. Easy.
Lastly, people like fffft need to get over themselves. The fix for the original poster's question was easy, but since fffft didn't know it, he decided to instead attack in order to make himself feel superior. How sad and pathetic does someone have to be to troll forums looking for opportunities to attack and belittle someone else?

solution to wifi disconnect problem
I was looking for an answer to a different wi-fi question when I saw this.
I'm on AT&T with my S5.
Under the Wi-Fi settings I have an option for "Smart Network Switch" which says it Automatically switches between Wi-Fi and mobile networks to maintain a stable internet connection. Anytime a computer says it automatically does something for me; I typically say no thanks. I don't typically like my devices making assumptions of what I like, don't like or want to do. So I have that option unchecked. I never have an issue with the network stability once I've connected to a specific wi-fi connection.
Not sure if that will help you all or not. But thought I'd share.
so under Settings --> Quick Settings --> Wi-Fi you will find a check box option named "Smart network switch", untick it, this should take care of the problem.
leon.

- Device: Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F), Stock, not rooted
- Android version: 5.0
- Kernel version: 3.4.0-5640614 (2015-09-01)
- 'Smart network switch' is turned off
- 'Always allow scanning' is disabled
The problem started 2-3 days ago. When I turn on WiFi/WLAN the phone constantly turns it back off and on again. Didn't happen before, didn't change anything on the router (I have no access to it ) and didn't install a new app (as far as I can remember). I don't know if it only happens on this access point.
I made a log file (adb logcat) but am not sure if it contains sensitive information, is it save to share online?
The logcat doesn't contain any sensitive passwords.

I'm have the exact same problem.
Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900T)
CyanogenMod (13.0-20151203)
Android 6.0 (Marshmallow)
Baseband (G900TUVU1ANE6)
Smart network switch: disabled
Always allow scanning: disabled
What's happening is as soon as my Wi-Fi finishes authenticating and connects, it is immediately disconnected and tries again. No other devices in my house are having any issues, so that eliminates the router. When I factory reset my phone the Wi-Fi begins to work again, so that eliminates my phones hardware. The confusing part is that I installed a bunch of apps such as AdGuard that could possibly cause an issue but everything worked and this started out of nowhere. Also, I factory reset my phone AGAIN and AGAIN, everything worked and out of nowhere while I was looking at my screen while idling, I watched as the Wi-Fi connection dropped and began the disconnect/reconnect loop...
I'm assuming it has to be a software issue because it only started when I updated to a newer Cyanogen. I'm about to test if other Wi-Fi networks have this problem and I'm also going to look through and post a log.
If anyone has any questions or suggestions that may lead to a fix, PLEASE help!
Thanks
Well I factory reset again, this time wiping the internal storage and everything is now fine. I did look at my logcat and there were Wi-Fi errors but I forgot to post them...
Hello good people of XDA,
Bought an used Nexus 6p from a marketplace and found out WiFi keeps dropping. It connects to a network and within few seconds drops off. Doesn't even open a webpage or connect to internet for the few seconds it latches on to network.
Below are few troubleshooting steps i have tried without much luck
1. Made 2.5Ghz and 5Ghz SSID different (Completely disabled one each time and tested - Didn't work)
2. Tried connecting through Static IP
3. Wipe Cache Partition
4. Tried with all kinds of routers and 4 different internet sources at friends and family places
5. All other devices in my home are connected and have no issue. Only issue with this phone
6. Went back to stock MM ROM (6.0.0 (MMB29N)) without any luck
7. Tried with the latest 7.1.2 (N2G48B, Jul 2017) without any luck
8. Tried a few custom ROMs without any luck
9. Went through XDA forums to find if any other solution
10. Changed router setting to a specific channel
Anyone knows what gives? Is it a hardware malfunction?
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks
Have you tried flashing different radio? Not sure if it will help but I've been using version 3.75 . The latest 3.81 was having drop offs with my cellular.

Does Wi-Fi work as expected when cellular data is turned off? If not, you may have found your answer. Tried a network settings reset? Under dev settings there are a couple of toggles related to cellular/wi-fi handover. One is aggressive Wi-Fi to cellular handover, and the other is cell data always active... try reversing those. Lastly look in the phone settings menu (*#*#4636#*#*) to see if anything looks wrong, or if a different setting may work better.
It happens to me alot, Just try another rom (nitrogen for example) rarely happens to me on nitrogen.
If that don't help, try removing the password from your router (make it open without password) and test if it works (it should work) if it don't,
Try connecting your phone to the router through WPS.
If it don't help, try adding your device manually through router configuration.
Try the above and let me know the result
