Galaxy Note 3 N9005 Sound Processor Mods ? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi people do you listen to music on your Note 3 via headphones ? i know most of you do and it's a dum question but what do you think of the music playback quality ? As i'm a bit disappointed with the sound playback, why im saying this i use to own a Samsung Galaxy S4 E300S Korean version and music playback was simply amazing on that device the deep bass and clear treble simply was unrivaled for example if im listening to music on my Note 3 i have to turn it all the way up im at one or two clicks away from full volume and it don't sound that good with the S4 E300S. i would only need to turn it up 3 to 4 clicks and it sounds frigging awesome. Any more clicks up i would go deaf i mean its so dam loud it's simply astonishing how much more powerful the sound card is in the Galaxy S4 E300S. Right my question is i don't think im gone deaf is there anyway i can tweak the sound card on my N9005 ? i am rooted ? Thanks people

Never mind people it was the gay Samsung headphones I was using that didn't preform too my standard as I found some old iPhone 3GS headphones they sound awesome with the N9005

[Q] Any DAC Comperison between I9500 and I9505?

Hi Everyone,
I have read and seen almost every comparison exist between these two models and came to a I9505 conclusion
One last thing that wasnt really clear about is the mic, ear piece and the speaker quality and volume.
As for the mic I have seen in this video here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJ_o6784tEg
Which clearly the I9500 mic is a lot better than the I9505, I guess that affects the call quality but I want another opinion based on an everyday usage if you can about the sound as a whole (Phone calls, Music, Speaker volume, etc...)
I know that the I9505 has almost the same spec as the HTC One which has a great sound reviews.
Is the I9505 far from it?
Thanks a lot!

[Q] Note 2 vs Note 3 Headphone Jack Audio Out

So, I download the same songs on both devices (same source)
I have the International Version of the Note 2 n7100
and I have the Canadian Version of the Note 3 Snapdragon
My headphones are JVC HA-FXT90 ( http://www.head-fi.org/products/jvc-ha-fxt90 )
I set the volume to 10 on both devices... and I do the snap test near the ear to see if I can here the snap
on the note 2 I can't hear the snap or claps
Note 3 I am disappointed being such a premium device with a high price the sound via the headphones is not where it should be.
ANyone else feel that way? I know there is posts about speakers etc.. but this is just about the headphone out only.

Are you complaining about the audio quality (as most people will be assuming), or do you mean it doesn't play loud enough to drain out outside noise? The Note 3 audio quality seems excellent, as you can also read in the gsmarena review, accompanied by beautiful graphs etc. The output level of the audio jack is on the low side, depending on the recording. Hope this answers your question.
Damn... yes my note 3 sound very very good.
And it is clearly superior to my old note 2, but a lot of people have a different opinion.

Yes, when using the note 2 + headphones at volume 10 it drains outside noise with my headphones
When using the note 3 + the same headphones and same track.... to get the same effect I have to have the volume at 13..
it seems the via the headphones the note 3 is not as good as the note 2

To not ruin your ears I would suggest some closed headphones or good in-ear earphones. At my office me and several of my colleagues use some inexpensive Sennheiser HD201's, which are excellent for this. I would prefer using some high end head phones, like I have at home, but the best ones are not closed (so everything can be heard by you and people hear what you are listening to).
while i agree that note 2 sounded better than note 3, it didnt do so out of the box.
i had a custom firmware with a custom kernel supporting direct control and optimization for the wolfson dac in exyos note 2.
out of the box note 2 sounded lame.
note 3 snapdragon version isnt as good as custom kernel note 2 but with a lot of playing around with equalizer it does sound good (not great though)
i should point out that i have 9 IEMs and 7 full size cans including he400 hd650 and LCD 2 (version 1) with a few fiio amps/dacs and one top end burson audio dac/amp combo, so my views might be biased.
to the OP:
root your phone and install this:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470890 (for snapdragon sm-n9005 only, exynos has a different version)
i recommend the moderate version. the audio will be plenty loud enough and speaker will be very loud as well

[Q] i9505 audio quality

Hi I hope you can answer my question please, I am selling my iPhone 5 as I wanna buy the sim free UK model S4, my main usage will be listening to music but I have seen a lot of people complaining about crackling with the i9505 UK model.
I just wanted to know has this issue been fixed and is the sound quality as as good as the iPhone 5.
Thanks

I`m from UK and i have no problem with the sound quality.
The sound is realy good for me.
Thanks can anyone else confirm this aswell, I will be buying s4 this weekend.
Oi! I used the HTC One for 5 months and now S4. I don't see a difference in sound quality over my HIFIMan RE-262 and RE-272.
Also you can use apps like DFX that can push the quality further,Viper4android is a pretty free tool to play with more audio goodies but you need root.
The HTC One is better as inboard speaker(for ringtones) as it uses Beats stereo speakers that's it
that's good then looks like I will be buying a S4.
Thanks
I haven't used the iphone 5 to compare, but I'm using the s4 i9505 with poweramp music app and parrot zik headphones / Bose MIE2i mobile headset, the sound is unbeatable :good::laugh:
Using wesc headphones with my s4. Sound quality is great. Especially with flac files...

Brilliant guys can't wait to get my s4 now.
The S4 has a pretty decent internal speaker and the quality of the output via the headphone jack is good, although it isn't particularly loud when powering a passive speaker. I would recommend, as another user mentioned, Viper4Android as it really improves every aspect of the S4s audio.

I have two Galaxy S4 models: GT-I9500 with Wolfson audio, and SHV-E330S with Qualcomm WCD9320 audio which is slightly improved version of WCD9310 used in GT-I9505.
What can i say... After using I9500, sound quality of E330S sucks.
1) Not as loud as I9500. So you need earphones with good acoustic amplification.
2) Sound is kind of dirty. Not as clear as I9500.
You can use some software audio improving, but if you are real audiophile then you should know that you can't improve quality by software processing. You can make it louder by increasing RMS, but u won't get a better quality than chip capable of.
Qualcomm audio chips are not for those who like to listen the music a lot.
i9505 did have audio issues at launch but was fixed quickly afterwards. There is no issues now
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
so when I get my s4 will I need to update it to the firmware fix.
That's correct, should be an update or it will come with the update already applied.

should I stop buying galaxy phones because of poor music quality?

I donot know if it is something wrong with the galaxy lineup or maybe android but I am having poor music quality on my phones I had a galaxy s3 and now a galaxy note 3 .Tried nearly every player poweramp, winamp, player pro and even rooted the s3 to try viper4android but the music always sucks either too flat or too noisy .should I try a sony device or the music on android isnot rich and crips (os problem).
I tried the new Adapt sound in note 3 with the default player and nothing new.
I use the bundled samsung headsets (tell me if I should replace them).
Thanks in advance ☺.
Are u talking about the sound with or without headphones?
Anyway I think the sound is one of the best u can find on any cell phone, there are just a few better (htc m8 4 example). If u are talking headphones I would personally advice anyone to switch away from in ear headphones (sound always bad to me) and take some real headphones instead. Hope that helps in any way
With headphones .

Bundled headphones are rather poor/flat for music - I still use those sometimes as a headset since the controls and mic work (while other models of headsets do not) but for music I use separate headphones.
I use the earpiece from my HTC one and it sounds nice.
Only caveat is the music player of touchwiz is slow and dumb.

No, you should stop using crappy headphones.
I'm using AKG K323XS A Black with N7player and my own equalizer settings. Perfect sound on my Note 3.

Try over ear headphones or at least switch if you like earphones. I haven't had any issues with the sound using sl 150 headphones.
good music quality achived but with issues
I tried apollo + dsp manager yesterday with the bundled headphones and the sound quality was greatly improved but the installation of the dsp manager messed up the default music player and the system as they become not responding when I get notifications during apollo playback . Maybe I will try a cm based rom any recommendation for good ones .
Thanks.
Head on over to hi fi org. Music, get a separate player like a Fiio x3 or x5. My rig is an x3 with vmoda m100 headphones, powered by a portaphile 627 amp. Day and night totally. I hate carrying both around but sound on phones are anemic at best.

Samsung stock IEM suck.
Can't believe flagship phone like this got iem like this. Coming from LG phone, the quality of bundled iem like day and night. Even quadbeat 1(optimus g and g pro bundle iem) blown away this ****ty iem.
Now i'm using Qb2 (g2 iem) with poweramp
Sound is much2 better

Yeah, the included headset is a piece of crap.
I had the same thought at first, thought something was wrong with the phone. After listening to some music with my HD598, I can safely say that the phone has very good audio quality.

You also may opt for a ROM with Viper Audio, but seriously you need better headphones first.
As others have said I would agree
1) Standard in ear headphones are not very good quality with any phone.
2) Android doesn't seem to be oriented towards prioritising high quality audio.
Having said that there are a number of steps that are likely to improve audio quality depending on how important and how much money you're willing to spend.
My advice would be first get a decent over the ear quality headphone.
Then get your music in lossless format e.g flac files not low bit rate mp3.
My personal favourite music player is Neutronmp.
Then if you still want more and are willing to spend more then the advice to head over to headfi given earlier is going to lead to an excellent source of advice.
Likely advice, again referred to earlier would involve investing in a separate dac / headphone amp.
Many available at different prices, I use Fiio E17 via usb otg cable and usb audio player Pro

buy and try this app before throwing your Note3.
Hahaha....
Best app for Android!
"Usb audio player Pro" (uapp).
I am a 2-year fan of Neutron Mp app, and comment much to the devs when they improving that app.
Suddenly, I saw uapp when searching smt not music related. I tried demo in 30 minutes then I know I must paid uapp!
Memo : You need to have a good hp to confirm (not to use crappy inear)

This will be good. I shall turn it up loud and test that tonight when I am home.
I installed the mod and set the selinux to permissive, froze the soundalive (can't disable so freeze it with Titanium BK), Samsung Music still plays well, but how do I know the mod is working?

i installed beats and dobly atomos and viper. From what i can tell nothing will make these cheap speakers sound better. S2 2014 has more bass but doesnt get as loud. S2 2015 gets a little louder but sacrifices bass. In general my note 4 or 5 speak is 3 or 4 time better than these junk.

When i want good sound, i stream music from my S2 to my vintage 1980s stereo speakers with a 10 inch woofer, 4 inch midrange and 2 inch tweeter. The S2 is so thin, the speakers are probably 3 mm. Is it any wonder the sound is crappier than a cheap pair of earbuds?
