So I rooted my Streak for the sole purpose of getting rid of some annoying default software. I used androot's soft root process.
Today I was attempting to use it to test barnacle, but accidentally chose a permanent root. After the phone rebooted, I got the android.process.acore error and all the fun that goes with it.
I believe the problem is the missing package(s). Actually I'd bet the specific one is "getting started" or HuangYin.apk (or something like that).
Anyone have a copy of the zipped folder they can make available?
Thanks!
Hey, first post here.
After wiping my EVO Shift and installing the most recent version of Nonsense, everything appears to work except that Visual Voicemail doesn't seem to want to activate. For example, if a voicemail is left, I'll get the notification text of its presence, but the message itself won't push to VVM.
I've tried installing the newer version of VVM posted for folks with the Voicemail Update issues described, but it's just as unresponsive.
I've also tried alternate ROMs to test, and VVM appears to work just fine with them (saved voicemails are present, new ones arrive without error). Since I prefer the Nonsense ROM, I'm hoping I can figure out how to get it working. So far I've had no luck - any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
is your voicemail all the way updated? it should be T.5.1.0.56. I know I had the problem that the voicemail wouldn't update and so I had to put a sprint updater .apk back into the /system/app folder to make the voicemail app update. Maybe they're related?

I had this issue on several of the Roms I tested out. Sometimes I would get voicemail notification hours after the voicemail was left, it was very sporadic. I just flashed NFX shift semi-stock new rom and I can confirm there are no voicemail issue everything works fine.

I figured. Maybe I'm going around finding it the wrong way, I plug in my phone as a "disk drive" and then manipulate stuff that way?
Good Idea/Bad Idea?
ah, the "disk drive" mode only allows you to explore the SD card. /system/app is located on the phone itself, so you'll need to use a file explorer like Astro or the ADB shell. Personally, my voicemail problems didn't stop until I pushed the voicemail .apk and the sprint updater .apk via ADB

Awesome. Ok, that makes sense. I guess now I must figure out what you mean by by "pushing" I'm guessing I have to use the CMD like when I did recovery?
I have the voicemail .apk mention on this thread, where do I get the sprint updater?
assuming you have ADB set up (which I think you do to root the phone in the first place...), just plug it in, make sure that USB debugging is enabled and NOT to put it into disk mode. Once you've done that open up command prompt/terminal and type this:
Code:
adb push /path/to/vvm.apk /system/app
where /path/to/vvm.apk is wherever you have that particular .apk on your computer. you should just be able to drag the folder into the command window (at least that works on macs, I'm not sure if it does on windows). You can find the sprint updater in the stock ROM in /system/app. just make sure to reboot your phone after the pushing, and hopefully everything will be working

Yep - that's the version I had updated to. Still no response for some reason.
And I had success flashing the NFX Shift Semi-Stock New ROM as well - for some reason VVM worked flawlessly with that ROM, which is why (coupled with the fact that I seem to be the only user encountering this error) I'm confused.
All the same thanks everyone for the suggestions so far!

I tried and still nothing. Maybe I didn't do it right...I typed CMD in the Run in windows. I copied and pasted the command you typed and the path to the apak file and...got a bunch of info...stuff describing how adb works and whatnot but no "success" or anything...should I even expect that?
A successful push just tells you how much it pushed how fast. If it's not, you may have to type adb remount first to get read write permissions for /system

Something that likely related:
When I upgrade the VVM to 5.1.0.56 and launch the app it attempts to verify my account for about a minute then states that: "Communication with the Voicemail-to-Text server ha timed out." It also says that Voicemail service wouldn't be interrupted by the app re-verifying, even though VVM doesn't actually work.
So something regarding my VVM's ability to talk with servers? Hrm...
Hey guys, not to hijack here, but I have found in my experience that google voice is the shiznit when it comes to flashing different roms and such where you need to wipe your phone... I always liked the sprint vvm, but gv will carry everything over, and have no setup other than to download the app. It took me a while and a bunch of missed messages to figure it out, but now I wouldn't go back. Either way, Good luck getting it straightened out.

you can copy files into /system/app with root explorer.. well worth whatever it costs. I never used adb after i got root explorer from the market
I'm having trouble with the VVM on my Wife's rooted EVO Shift. I pulled the updater app out of system apps, but put it back in there to try and get her VVM updated. The updater starts and says Upgrading Voicemail application, however, eventually errors with Sorry, there was a problem checking for update.
I've tried on 3G, Wifi, 4G and its consistent. I rebooted the phone after putting the updater back and fixing the permissions.
I rooted the phone when we got it, installed the custom recovery, then cleaned up stuff with Root Explorer, not much else.
Any thoughts or recommendations?
Hey. Sorry to go off topic but does your plan have to be provisioned for vvm for it to work? Is it supose to say vvm in your bill?
I've never got visual voicemail to work on the hero and this phone but my plan was never for android phones.
Thanks in advance if anyone can answer!
Save the hassle and go with google voice..also sprint vvm provisions automatically..from what I knw it never said anything bout vm on my bill

Hey people,
I've been trying for a while now to root my sister's Intercept (virgin mobile). I've looked all over the place and no method seems to work. Does anyone know of a way to do it?
I've tried:
z4root apk (said phone is rooted but su wasn't installed and all other apps said it wasn't, including root checkers)
intercept root apk (same as above)
SuperOneClick (latest version) (stopped in the middle and never completed, always fails)
Gingerbreak apk (just reboots the phone and doesn't do anything)
Any ideas? Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
The intercept root apk worked like cake for me. I would try doing a factory reset then using that apk first thing after rebooting. It doesn't work with FB01 (Sprint) Intercepts after a February 29, 2012 update, but it should still work with EC07 (VM).
This is the one I used: http://intercept-root.googlecode.com/files/InterceptRootV1-35.apk
Once you've used the app once and reboot your phone, open it again and if it worked you should see options to either unroot or install CM01 custom recovery (recommended if you want to flash roms onto it).
Good luck!
Gonna try it out when I get a chance. Thanks!
The z4root dont work on the intercept anymore. and the inerceptroot.apk on my phone would say that it was failed or what not and i would use root apps and they would still work (even without superuser)
I have been using a optimus v but I have an intercept that's rooted with super one click. Its a brand new phone just opened it and runs like crap slow and just tards out. Rooted it to try and fix it still a no go. Any clues

I have the sprint version, interceptroot.apk worked until the latest FB01 update, after that I had to us samsung SWupdater to load customer recovey
Intercept root apk should work with the VM intercept. I recently tried that method on mine, but I had to do it a couple of times before it actually rooted it.

Id just start from scratch and find a stock rom to flash. I used to have a VM intercept for a painful 2 years. Sometimes you just need to start over with a fresh rom.

Its still stock rom never fa
lashed anything on the phone. Its actually started working like a normal intercept. Had it off for about 2 weeks then turned it on recently and works alot better. I'm pretty much using the phone as a play toy seeing what I can change and explore all the files to get a better idea about android. Maybe I can find a way to make the intercept a good phone.e( highly unlikely, since it is an intercept)

Intercept root
i have an intercept from VM and it was easily rooted with interceptroot.apk Google it, a safe copy will be found on sdx-developers website.
this should get you started, make sure you download the file with your phone, click the home button. Next, click the settings button on your phone, go to applications and then in the following menu, go to development and turn on usb debugging and use the back icon, next allow unknown sources in the menu you are now into again, and click the home button yet again.
Make sure you have some sort of file browser, I personally prefer the app "file expert" but others have their own preferences. (you can use any file tools, like: es file explorer(free), file explorer(free and paid), file expert(free and donate versions), root explorer(free and paid verisons). Anyways, go to your sdcard with the file tool, locate the folder called download, and tap the icon that says "intercept-root.apk" make sure its version 1.35!
You should be asked if you'd like to install, select install. *** NOTE: if you have an antivirus on your phone(whats the point?) you'll get a pup warning, it does not mean its a virus, just a Potentially Unwanted Program, which means that you might not want to install just because it will void your warranty.. if you don't mind, JUST IGNORE! ****
next, you will have a few options, might I suggest permanent root so you don't have to keep rooting your device, it will also have other options and install a handy icon inside your applications menu screen for safe keeping!
You should be all good to go, to find out, go to the google play store and download a program thats free called "root checker basic" It will let you know if your good to go or not.
That concludes the fast off the top of my head tutorial! happy rooting!
*** Update ***
This intercept root apk file also has the option to install the CM01 recovery mod (flash) if your into modding or wanting to flash the phone to a new network sometime (why????) you might want to use this too, make sure to read up on it, I personally have not done it and choose not to, at least yet.. This is important if you want to install roms, kernels (like crappy-kernel) and opens more features to your phone, but can render it into a paper weight if your not careful and PAY ATTENTION!
hope this helps everyone.
I updated to KK yesterday, kept the root and everything, but when I downloaded (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2456338) and and inserted the Hotspotprovisions and removed the odex files from the system/app/, the Mobile Hotspot app dissapeared and I can no longer start up the app. I looked into titanium backup and it wasn't listed anywhere there, its as if the app is just gone without the trace, even though in the system/app/ folder I moved all the original files back into the place!
Please help
Unfortunately, I've been looking for a solution to this as well.
Same scenario: backed up/renamed original APK/Odex files and replaced with the single APK. The Mobile Hotspot app no longer appears in my application list. Looking in Settings/Application Manager/All also produces no listings for the Hotspot app or provisioning.
I found the original APK's and placed them in system/app, but still have not been able to restore even the original VZW tethering functionality.
Any help or suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I don't know what to do to fix this problem but here are the original 24a files for the provision apk and odex. Hopefully they help:

EDIT: permissions are rw-rw----
This is my moms phone first off, she got it used from my sister. When she got it it had been factory reset but since my sister forgot her PIN part of setting the phone up for her was to log in with my sisters old information first to make sure it wasnt stolen. I mention this in case that might have had some bearing on anything.
The issue is when trying to sideload apps onto the phone and you tap on an APK file it comes up with the Text, Image, Video, Other popup as if you tapped on Open File As. Its as though the Android Package Installer thats built in isnt associated with APK files kinda like youd have file associations in Windows. As a temporary workaround I have gone and grabbed a third party APK installer app off the Play Store but that still isnt ideal as to install anything you have to go through that app then.
She has ES File Explorer installed and even tapn hold on an APK and using ES's Install option it uses the built in Package Installer so it doesnt work. Oh and Unknown Sources is of course enabled.
I would like to fix this without completely reinstalling the entire ROM with ODIN if I can help it or completely factory resetting the phone again.
