[Q] how can I hide incoming and outgoing numbers? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

it's been my problem for so long.
iphone doesn't show the number of a caller or dialed (it only shows the saved name)
I wanted this on my galaxy phones for long.
full screen caller ID is an option but it make a lot of problems.
is there a way to tweak it?
or is there a mod that I can use?
for example:
now the number and the name shows:
John
12345678
what I want is to show only the name:
John
please help me
my current phone is galaxy note 3, soon note 4

The default dialer app does not have any option like that.
You may need to search for 3rd-party dialer.

dialer does not effect the incoming and outgoing calls. actually I never use samsung's dialer.
there should be a mod or something that we can change it. we can all call recording, we can replace buttons. we can change the theme, why can't we change this too?

Ok I see.
Actually I mean the Phone app.
So if any modification, it should be done with this Phone app.

I just want to hide the number when I already have the name.
just like iphone does.
it should've been available by default.

You just want the ringer to RING without any other indication of an incoming call?
or
U dont want an INCOMING CALL ALLTOGETHER?
I gather it is the Former coz In the latter simply turn On <flight mode>
U can also set the device to recieve calls without Ringing by setting it to Pick up after <zero> calls.
Using a handsfree here would be an advantage.
U wont Miss any call.
I just want the ringer to RING without any other indication of an incoming call. Is it possible?

I doubt it... Seems kinda pointless, having the ability to tell you who is calling, but then deliberately turning it of..
yes, but when someone is calling, there is always a delay.
When you hear the first ring, the caller already heard it twice.
Maybe by disabling this, it would speed up the process a bit

That's the network, not the device.
It can't be the network, I never had this problem with my Nokia phones.
I personally think it's a flaw in the dialer application or in WinMobile itself.

I agree with texarcana here, the lights begin to flash on my phone when it rings a good few seconds before the screen get around to displaying the incoming call notification.
This is on WM 6.1, on my new HTC Diamond Touch.
I assume that notifications such as an incoming call or text message are either
A) A windows message sent to a background service awaiting it.
B) An application is executed with parameters describing the event
In either case, i believe it must be possible to redirect the notification in the registry. However, if the notification method is at fault (ie causing slow response, most likely to be true if B above is true.)
I'm going to investigate, I'll post an update of my results.
Im really sorry to bump this really old thread but has anyone solved this?? I would like to disable the incomming call notification too.. cuz I just added a full screen caller ID, but the damn notification pops up and covers the photos of my contacts.. so whats the point of the caller ID if i, not gonna be able to see the pictures
well i know its in Hkey_curent_User\controlpanel\notifications\phone
but im not sure how to disable it...
or even more important (for me) only disable it for a certain #...? thanks! anyonbdy
To Diamond I found. cab which options are unblocking "flash light for." in SOUND & NOTIFICATION it didn't give but nothing. I dug around in the HKLM/Drivers/Builtln/Keylight and Keypad register and I turned off LED generally speaking but I blocked buttons
first you'll need a registry editor, then edit the following key:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Notifications\Phone
Duration=1
change the 1 to 0
im not sure if this is exactly the fix you were looking for. its intended for stopping he default caller id bubble from blocking fullscreen caller id apps like s2u2.

Didn't work for my samsung i760, what about DispllayOrder? Set it to 0 too? Or what would that do exactly? I'm curious now, it's set to 1 so if all else fails, I could change it back to 1 again... I guess. I'd just like to know first before I go blindly jumping into something.. haha
Sidenote setting it to 0 did work I just had to reset my phone so remember to reset your phone after changing this, I see the curtain try to popup, or at least the frames but nothing after that... Although sometimes it does act buggy and I'll completely miss or be able to answer a call cause my phone will constantly viberate (No pickup on ringtone at all starting) then after the call is missed the viberating will stop but my phone will still be frozen... Thats when the screen is off though..
Okay after a few tests sometimes it does work and sometimes it doesn't work at all and the curtain will still show up... Then again screen off sometimes the phone wont ring at all, I'm setting it back to 1... LoL
I just wish there was a way or a more advanced notification manager, it should be just like being able to disable incoming text messages and disabling sent message notifications..
____
I'd love a fix for this too, as I already have a picture caller id with PocketX Photo Contacts Pro...
But it's annoying as all get out!! To put it politely, I slide to answer then I've got to press the left softkey too! In order to answer a call, if I could just disable the built in windows mobile caller id curtain then it'd be a heck of a lot easier...
Please let's get a scripter on this to start working their way around and tweaking it to be able to be disabled..
Thanks!!
________
As for ring delay which is also a few other posters concern of the phone taking it's own sweet time to decide when to start ringing... This is what I used for my i760, I'm sure someone here could turn this into use for any phone make and model:
Ring Time Limit Fix:
**772 [service code]
six zeros for the code (000000)
Scroll down with the d-pad till you see end of basic nam
hit right d-pad to change "exit" to "more"
hit middle d-pad to select
hit the down d-pad 76 times till it says slot cycle index
Change this to 1 or lower EDIT: By entering the value with the number pad and then you hit the middle d-pad to exit.
This changes the frequency at which the phone talks to the tower and will
start the unit ringing MUCH faster. the lower you go the faster but the more battery it uses. I find 1 gets the phone ringing within 3 seconds but doesn't hinder battery life.

I've got mine set to 0 though, but then again, I don't get very many calls, plus I have my phone charging a lot. Also I always carry around a spare extended fully charged battery in my holster... Usually my battery lasts a whole day... But with it set to 0 my phone picks up and rings at the end of the first ring on the callers end.

Full Screen Caller ID

Anyoner know of a program for Full Screen Caller ID?
I have used S2U2 and Photo Contact Pro, but the only reason I use them is for the caller ID. I would rather have a program just for a caller ID rather than install extra stuff I don't want.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

Try the OPAL phones canvas which you can find here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=430354 or with different color skins here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=430768&highlight=phone+canvas

If you just want a full screen caller id, I'd recommend S2U2, which offers a real full screen caller id, with the option of "slide to answer".
Of course it comes with other functions as well, such as lock your device and volume control, but you can disable all those from the S2U2settings program.

how to disable the auto dailing when touching the contacts in the dail pad?

how to disable the auto dailing when touching the contact in the dail pad? Is it possible to display the contact details like I-phone does? When using the prevous Diamond's netvigation pad, it is possible to open the contact details. But how can it works for HD with no direction pad? Please help, very inconvenient when choosing the contact with multiple phone number. HELP!!!
THAT is something that also really annoys me.
i would love an option to turn that off!
I am using Pocket CM and it doesn't has that problem.
1 click on the contact to show detail and another click to choose which number you want to dial.
does it replace the standard phonepad app?
what we mean is when you press the dial button - then the dialpad and the call history appears.
clicking on a contact in the list leads to dialing the number.
in the normal wm contact app the klick leads to the contact like we know and want it.

I completly agree, I have been seaching for a solution..
didnt find a registry key that could solve that
this would be a nice feature to find
actually you have to slide the contact name to choose the phone number you dial, or the action you launch.
i agree this is the most annoying thinh in hd
I think you are talking about the Phone interface (Refer to User Manual P.50 Using Phone Features), when you short-list the contact you would like to select, on Point 4 of the Manual, it instructs you to
To call a different phone number
associated with the contact, select
the contact, then tap Menu >
Open Contact.
Instead, you can just simple "tap" on the right hand of the contact, it will pop up the contact detail, then you can select (tab on the associated number) to dail
Hope this can help.

One way that I have tried is to change the phone dial skin to standard windows mobile. If you install the htc tweak written about in this forum you can easily change phone skins. The standard phone skin does not dial the phone when you tap the contact but gives you a list of phones for that contact. It does mean however that you will have another look for your phone dial.

I'm fine w/ just sliding, thanks a lot! Dunno why I didn't think of it lol...
This is also something that bugs me but not only that.
I drive to work by bycicle. When I do, I have my HD in my pocket, playing radio.
The HTC headset has 2 buttons embedded of which 1 auto dials the last number when pressed. Unfortunatly when your wearing a headset, have a laptop bag around your shoulder and during these Winter times are wearing sturdy coat, the button gets pushed accidentaly all the time.
Disabling that function would be brilliant too.

All I know is that I found it as an option in the HD Tweak under the heading 1.8 Phone Pad Style. There are two options HD (Default) and Windows Mobile Standard.

Right thanks. I was merely referring to your use of PocketCM. Obviously some things are tiny using the standard included theme.
So my question was, aside from any dialing issues, I just wanted to ask real quick where you got a WVGA theme if you did (anyone know of one?)

if you just slide your finger across a certain contact, it will not call directly that contact, but change the phone number selected, if more numbers available, or switch to send text message etc.
I also discovederd that by accident, but its working and enough to solve this most annoying problem.
it seems there is no solution to solve it. Anybody have further suggestion. Please help for the frequent user of the smart dailing. Or if we could change the registry of the phone. Help!

"Dialing" and "In Call" Screens Customization???

Hi everybody
I have recently installed Inesoft Phone and I am really happ with its dialer and its caller id applets, but when I choose to dial a number or contact, etc. (and when the call is established), I see the original Windows Mobile dialer (which frankly I hate !!!), is there anyway ro replace just these screens ("dialing" and "in call") with a customized one?
I want to customize these screens only and I use Inesoft's dialer and caller id and I don't need to customize them...
Is it possible?

Thank you for your answer, but I'm using Inesoft Dialer now (this means that it IS On) and when I dial a number with this dialer, i.e. when the phone is dialing the number, the original Windows Mobile "Dialing..." screen appears and this is also true when the call is established (connected). I want these screens (JUST these screens) to be HTC's skinned screens. How can I do that?

Strange Dialer thing

Is it only me?
I'm coming from WinMo only phones. I owned a lot of them, the last being the Touch HD. I was so used to press the "green" key to access the dialer and look for a contact using that mixed numbers/letters phone keyboard.
On Nexus One, I select "phone" shortcut on my homescreen and I get the dialer. But if you push buttons on that keyboard, you only get to dial that number (no contacts lookout, matching what you have pressed). So you have to go to Contacts or Favorites to select someone you want to call (too many operations to not get annoyed )
Is this a normal behavior on Nexus One? Or am I doing something bad?
I made a movie to see what I am talking about (not a native English speaker).
Movie 1
The second movie is made showing what I am talking about using a Market application I found: SuperDial. It works as expected, but still I am confused why Google didn't make this a default (I see this on every phone)
Movie 2
Thanks for any suggestions.
Alin.
On the N1, you can press the "search" button at any time and begin typing a contact's name, and they should pop up as a top result. Alternatively, you can hold the Search button, and simply speak your contact's name. I find this to be the easiest way.
Yes, I've seen this, but it gets more general results, not only contacts. Also, after you find a contact that way, you click on it and it won't dial directly. You still have to select what to do.. not that fast ...
I'm not an American/Englishman and nor my contacts are , so speaking names is useless. Last try was: "Alex Axon" and the phone undesrtood "alex sucks own" .. you got the idea
Thanks for answering anyway. Are there other methods?
You can install aContacts from the market. It does what you want and very configurable. Unfortunately android stock dialer doesn't support T9.
Thanks.. will try that also. As I mentioned, I already found some replacement for my issue.
The question was: is this normal behavior for the default dialer? Or am I doing something wrong?
It looks plain stupid to open an application (Phone in Nexus case) always on a tab that nobody uses (dialer with this behavior). How many times someone will dial a number directly instead of using a saved contact?!? At least the application should remember the last tabs it was in: Favorites, Call Log or Contacts... Dialer is plain useless most of the time with this implementation

This is how mine reacts as well. There's another "application" called "Contacts" in my tray (it also started out on my desktop but I've removed it) which takes you to the same four-tab screen but starts on the "Contacts" tab. This sounds like it would be perfect for you if you used it instead of "Phone."
I also really miss the smart dailer (I think that's what they called it) on the Windows Mobile phones. I'm amazed that it wasn't implemented in one way or another in the stock dialer since it's been in the WinMo phones since forever.
I remember trying out some apps in the market that emulated the smart dialer. On is called SuperDial and the other was Star Contact. Both looked too ugly for me to use, though.

That's something cool I never tried, but OP wants to dial immediately after tapping on the contact's name. Doing it this way would be the same as hitting the magnifying glass while in the dailer/contacts app, which brings you to the contacts page where you'd have to then tap on the number you wish to dial. On Windows Mobile, after you T9 the contacts name into the dialer, you can select them and it'll automatically dial the contacts default number, which was very useful.
if you say "call" before the contact's name when using voice input, it will default to dialing them.
aContacts actually do the job really, but really well. It replaced my Phone application from this moment on.
SuperDial was good also, but ugly looking.

Where do you type "call"? OP can't use voice dial because he's not from an English speaking country.
you type call on the keyboard as far as I understood, just before entering contact name.. but the process is long in my opinion...
I'm a bit lazy myself
EDIT: tried to enter contact using keyboard on Dialer.. and nothing happens, contact is not found, and dialer just starts dialing the corresponding key number
