@alialexali I have installed and use MX Player along with their ARMv7 Codec app and never had any issues playing any videos.
So basically if this is the thing putting you off don't worry about it.

Seconded.
Download MX Player. Download the ARMv7 NEON codec. Enable HW+ decoder. Enjoy.

Great thing about android - There's always a way

i wanna get the MX video player,, but wich Player CODEC for galaxy note??
in market if you search for MX video player you will see Player CODEC also,, see below:
For ARMv5 CPU
For ARMv6 CPU
For ARMv6 VFP CPU
For ARMv7 CPU
see the market here..
so what is the different..? and winch one is for the galaxy note and for galaxy s II ...?
thank you very much
MX Player will tell you if it needs a Codec pack, which in the case of the Galaxy Note and the SII, it doesn't.
Regards,
Dave
Use Mobo Player from the market, no need for codecs, hands down the best Videoplayer! For all phones I have tried on!

Use ARMv7 version whenever you have to choose the CPU architecture on Galaxy Note.
Newer devices such as Samsung Galaxy S, SII, Note have got ARMv7 architecture, while LG Optimus, Samsung Galaxy Ace have got ARMv6.
They're optimized in a different way such as PC has got 32-bit and 64-bit architectures and you can't run 64 bit drivers on 32 bit OS or vice versa.
You've got to watch for the device specification to find out what type of instruction set does it use.
Thank you very much.. i got it now..

Dice Player is the smoothest player with the clearest subtitles (especially embedded mkv's)...BUT you cant buy it!!!
I'm looking everywhere for the 1.8.1 version that plays so perfectly.....but I can't find it.
Cant find apk..and cant buy in the market. arrrrggghhhh
Dice player seems pretty good, it plays in HW mode and does not have any audio sync unlike the stock player/MX video player and all others.

[Q] which is best MX player codec for nexus 7

Which codec should i used with mx player for nexus 7.
ARMv7
ARMv6 VFP
ARMv6
ARMv7 Neon
ARMv5
There's no need to download those extra codecs unless if MX Player asks you to download them.

For Nexus 7 first generation 2012 the correct codec is the Tegra3 one. Here is the play store link.

That doesn't answer the question. Maybe OP wants to download them preemptively before mxplayer asks.

MKV file support on Note 3

Hi guys. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed. It seems my Note 3 won't play the audio from any MKV files I put on there. My Note 2 & S3 both play the files with ease and also let me stream them to my TV. However when I play an MKV on my Note 3, the video players but displays an error message regarding the Audio. Anyone else noticed this? Not sure if Sammy are removing the Codecs from future software updates. I guess we'll find out in the coming days when they roll out 4.3 for the S3 & Note 2.

its the same on n900, its lacking of support for audio codecs... you have to use Mxplayer or another one and use H/W decode and its all good...
Use mx player and you have to download the dts codec for mx player which can be found in xda. The dts codec does not come with mx player due to copyright issues. Just load the codec in mx player by going to custom codec which can be found in settings - > decoder

Use Mxplayer and it'll prompt you to grab the correct codec/plugin for it. Should work fine.

License issues with the h.264 and ac3 codecs.
Diceplayer has been forced to remove the support for them as well. MX and BSplayer don't play DTS audio.
It's a really pathetic attempt to halt piracy. (Since those are the most used codecs in pirated videos.)
Use VLC . It plays everything, Comes with all codecs and doesn't give a sh*t about licence issues. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.videolan.vlc.betav7neon

Well that sucks...I sold my S4, Hoping to get the same experience with a larger screen and more raw power. But it seems its not much of an upgrade. The speaker g is worse than that of S4.

You're going to see this problem on all updated phones and versions.
Just use another app. I've got about 4TB of various videofiles, amongst which h.264 ac3 .mkv's, and they play fine.
Or grab an old apk version of Dice. 2.0.53 still supports them.
here's the solution
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/general/gn3-ac3-support-mod-pako777-t2867140
MKV may contain codecs that are not compatible with Samsung Galaxy Smartphone.
To solve this issue, you'd better to convert MKV to Samsung Note supported format with Faasoft Samsung Video Converter.
Hope it is what you are looking for.
In order to play all MKV, AVI, VOB, TiVo, MPG, WMV, FLV/F4V videos on Galaxy Note 3 properly, you'd better convert videos into Galaxy Note 3 supported video formats first before transferring them to Note 3. Along with some help from third-party software, this can be done effortlessly.
brorsoft.com/how-to/get-galaxy-note-3-play-avi-mkv-vob-mpg-files.html
Meh, VLC Player still plays everything without a single objection. It's open-source.
And the best part? You don't have to spend hours re-encoding all your blurays..
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.videolan.vlc
The problem isn't Android or the Note 3, it's copyright. Copyright that led to mkv support being removed from mediaplayers made by more obedient companies. VLC is opensource, they don't listen to copyright companies.
(Why did they enforce the removal of MKV, you might ask? Because it's the main container used for pirated HD videos these days. It's a lame anti-piracy method that once again affects paying customers more.)
Vlc player and mx player as suggested above are right solutions to play. Mkv files. Don't go for installing codes N stuff

Personally, I find that Samsung's stock video player is a vast, vast improvement over any other stock player. True, it doesn't play everything you can throw at it but it is far more capable than say the HTC stock player, or the vanilla Android video player on the Nexus devices because the codec support with these is just shocking. Point being, as stock players go, Samsung's is probably the best - I certainly wouldn't call it rubbish, though YMMV.
I've not tried VLC for a while now, but last time I did (probably a year ago) I found it very poor, though I used to use Diceplayer and MX Player Pro a lot and always found them to be ok. These days, I usually use the Archos video player with the free codec pack when stock doesn't quite work for me, which isn't very often on my Note 3, but almost always when using my HTC One or Nexus devices (5 & 7).
Regards,
Dave
Another disappointment is that metadata does not work on the Note 3. You would think something as advanced as this and it would work.
VLC all the way!

+1 for MX Player. It's a shame it doesn't support DTS anymore, but I find it's only mkv files that have been converted form blu-ray that contain DTS audio. Weekly HD TV shows seem to be fine.
now i am using mx player with dts codec
but the mx player seem to have problem with playing m2ts with dolby digital sound
seeking forward and backward is really laggy and took 3 to 5 second and the sound will crash
what about vlc or dice are they capable playing 1080p m2ts without crash ?

AC3 sound support for Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 (TW ROM) fix found.

As you may know, Samsung dropped support for AC3 sound some time ago, so the stock video player would only play video with no sound on several mkv videos that I have on my device. To counter that I used MX Player until a few days ago it also dropped support for AC3 rendering my mkv videos unplayable.
I found the following posts on the Tab S / Tab 4 forums. I tested what they suggested and the problem was solved both for stock video player and MX Player.

They both work. I currently have the Tab 4's fix on my SM-T320.

One is for rooted and the other I wouldn't have a clue where to put the unzipped files.
Easiest thing for some of us is just uninstall current MX player and load a previous MX player and don't update.

Both say the same thing, place the ".xml" file in /system/etc and the ".so" files in /system/lib. Both are for rooted devices. The libraries are the same in both posts, the xml file differs slightly.

AC3 support used to work until NK1 update.
Just dowmload the AC3 update on op and MX Player will take care the rest.

err, but you can simply get the "custom codec" for MX Player (widely promoted on this very forum, if I'm not mistaken) and bingo, AC3 and DTS support is restored to MX Player.
