Hi All,
Recently I replaced the LCD screen of my defy+ phone. However after replacement mic volume has decreased a lot. In call, other party can't hear any sound. I checked all the rubber parts (yellow seals) & can confirm have placed each of them in place which packing back.
However if I switch to speaker mode incall, mic volume increases again.
I have tried various ROMS right from flashing original sbf to latest 4.4 ROMS.
Please can any one help or throw any light on this.

Hi guys,
I've been having alot of problems regarding my Hermes incall volume - it's whisper quiet. It doesn't seem to be the ROM (i've tried 3 now, the official WM5 and 2 WM6) nor the radio (i've tried 1.40 and 1.43)
I've also had a look on the forums to no avail, any fix seems to not apply to my system.
I know it's cheeky to start a new thread, but if I can't find a resolution I think I'll just sell it on the bay.
Cheers
p.s - I have ensured that it is to the fullest using both the scroller and the speaker during a call. The rest of the volume on the phone is fine, loudspeaker and ringing etc.
Ringing volume comes through your speaker in the back, and so does the speaker phone option. Your head piece might be going bad, that might be the reason why you dont hear it loud.
If the phone is still in warranty, then send it to be replaced!
Hi,
I have unusual problem with my motorola defy earpiece (or at least i think it's that). Bought it used, so don't know how it was before...
During calls the volume of earpiece speaker is very low, practically unusable unless you are using phone in completely silent environment. The weird thing is tho, when i turn the phone around and listen closely on the back side the volume is actually a bit higher - seems like in call sound is coming from big phone speaker on the back, just very silenty... When turned to loudspeaker mode during call - everything works as intended, i can hear loud voice on phone's back speaker. I know that people are having problems with defy's earpiece not working at all, but it's not like that for me. It actually seems that both speakers (earpiece and main speaker) are working during calls just on very low volume. No luck searching for help on internet, doesn't seem that anyone had this happen... Problem egsisted with stock ROM, so i installed CM 7.2 - nothing changed. Volume buttons work, but even max volume is just too low. Wonder if that could be software problem or the hardware is somehow ruined? Any ideas? Don't know where to turn - i'm intending to take phone apart and see what's going on in there, no previous experience so please stop me
I just got my defy today and have exactly the same problem. I flashed cm 7.2
Hi,
I purchased a used D802 International. The earpiece volume during phone calls is very low, even when I turn the volume to its maximum level. In a noisey environment, I have to keep the phone very close to my ear. I have seen volume mods but they seem to be for the internal speaker and headphones. In my case, the volume from the built-in earpiece is very low.
I flashed the volume mod via TWRP and the volume level is still very low.
Anyone have a possible solution? Is it possible the internal earpiece needs to be replaced?
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks.
@audit13 if the problem occurs on both stock roms with everything clean wiped then I think that the earpiece might have to be replaced BUT
BUT.
The earspeaker is hidden above the screen behind those small holes. I suggest to try to clean those small holes as they might be filled with dirt which causes the soundwaves to not go through.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just finished cleaning the grill and the earspeaker volume is still low.
Do you think it will be different with a custom ROM?

if you're on stock based rom - you can try dorimanx' custom kernel... you have it for both KK (latest v10.8) and LP (v4.5 latest)
with the kernel - there comes a dorimanx settings app which has an option to increase the earpiece, headphones and speaker volumes...
before trying the kernel - just make sure you backup everything through TWRP - better safe than sorry...
I installed the latest Dorimanx LP kernel and the volume is better. I had to set the gain to 6 but it wounds fine without distorting. Thank you.

i'm glad you solved it :good:
I decided to flash a custom LP ROM just to see how it runs on my D802 and the earpiece volume will go a lot louder than it did on thee stock LG KK and LP ROM. I flashed the latest Cloudy and the max volume dropped again. This leads me to believe that the volume has something to do with the LG software.

if you're on cloudy rom, you must try "true stereo mod"... (you can find it in lg g2 forums)
it makes the earpiece play right channel and normal speaker plays left channel (or vice versa)
very good when watching a video, especially in landscape mode... sound is much better... (and you can tune the volumes in dorimanx settings app so both " speakers" play at equal levels - since the regular speaker is much louder than earpiece)
@60nine, thanks for the suggestion. I just loaded cloudy and played with it a bit. I'll try your suggestion when I get a chance, although I am the type of person that just uses their phone for text, surfing, email, and calls.
I put it away for now while I wait for my glass screen protector and TPU case from ebay. Shipping from China to Canada takes about 3 to 4 weeks!
The phone was used and had some scratches on the screen in one spot. The scratches are not noticeable unless you view it from an oblique angle or the image has a pure white background. I can't really complain given how little I paid for it
Low earpiece volume could just be a bad earpiece speaker.
For nearly a year right after flashing a rom I noticed that my earpiece volume is extremely low to the point where I couldn't hear certain callers on the other side. Since I noticed the issue after flashing a rom, I assumed that it was a software issue.
After getting time, I decided to finally flash Lineage OS even though it kills many of our phone features. I wanted a phone that I could make calls from. After the flash, nothing. Sound was still low. @i95swervin added LS997 support to alpha rom. I downloaded it and still had the same problem. I continued to search and only one single person had a problem while others said that the volume is fine. I then decided to try replacing the earpiece. At under $10 shipped, it wouldn't hurt.
That was the issue as it is now loud again. It is an extremely easy problem to fix with a single small phillips screwdriver.
Can anyone help me with the low sound on earpiece speaker on stock rom and with stock recovery.
Please help
I am from India. I was facing the same problem. The ear piece volume was generally low for all the calls and it was even inaudible for calls from certain numbers. It was kind of freaky experience for me. I took it to the service centre. They did 2 things. They flashed the software afresh and removed the grill covering the ear piece. Now the incall sound quality is absolutely fantastic. I suggest you to try the same

I am also facing the same problem on jio, i cant hear the voice without earphones but the quality of whatsapp calls are fine. I think the earpiece itself is fine and their is a software problem. is there any workaround ?
Hey, so I had this earpiece issue. I couldn't hear anything during call, nothing. I thought it was a Pie issue but after resetting and doing SMMI test I confirmed a hardware problem.
Went to authorised service center and they took it no questions and replaced a new LCD and battery in 4 hrs. They say earpiece is connected with screen and battery also with screen, so yeah, I got lucky.
Get it checked, I think moisture entering the earpiece can ruin it.

Can u guv ur numbr?
From my experience i suggest Stock Rom Mod in this rom the earpiece volume is increased and it absolutely fantastic . I tried all pie & Q roms only the Stock Rom Mod has volume increased.
1. Flash Stock Rom Mod
2. Flash Magisk Manager
3. Use Es Explorer and grant root permission and RW permission
4. Device/vendor/etc/mixer path.xml
5. Change RX1 DIGITAL VOLUME FROM 90 to 95
6. Save and Reboot.
This rom only solved the irritating low in-call volume problem.

You can increase the earpiece gain using any custom kernel and kernel manager in any custom rom.
