Using the Stylus on Windows 98 via DOSBox Turbo - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Quick question for those of you that run Windows 95/98 via DOSBox Turbo on your Note 3. I know DOSBox Turbo supports the stylus, but in what way? Is it true 'absolute' positioning where you could hit the Start button with the pen, and it would open even when screen stretching is on or would that tap register somewhere else on the DOSBox machine? There isn't much information around it from what I can find.
I know it can be used like a mouse in 'relative' mode, but it would be great to get some more info on this.
Thanks!

Will Qemu and Windows 9x run on Touch Pro 2?

I have Nokia N95-1 and consider buying Touch Pro 2. I have questions
1. Will Quemu & Windows 9x run on touch pro2 ?
2. If so, will the physical keyboard of touch pro 2 be usable in emulated Windows 9x?
I have one very simple application ("Supermemo 2004") which runs on Windows95/98 or higher and I have to use this application everyday, sometimes being away from my PC, so ability to run it on a mobile phone would be very useful and practical to me. My Windows application requires me to press the following keys (this is the only input): 0,1,2,3,4,5,arrows,enter or space. I would like to press this keys on Touch Pro 2's physical keyboard. I wonder what are the chances that it will work. Don't want to change my Nokia N95-1 for WM phone without prospect of abovementioned task success.
I will greatly appreciate your help in this subject.
I doubt you will get it to work

Indeed it seems to be to many chances of fail in this attempt. However on Youtube there is a movie with Win95 working on HTC HD2. I thought if it works on HD2 it should also work on TouchPro2
Regarding Qemu, I prepared working image of hdd with Windows and my application on PC computer and it works very well.
Windows 95 does work on the Pro2, just not very well. I used this automated installer, which does all the work to get Windows 95 running on the device. But because it's emulated, it's still nearly unusable for most things. Don't buy this device based off its Windows 95 ability, or you're not going to be happy with your purchase. W95 on the Pro2 is extremely slow, and it won't run many applications. I'm not even sure if the keyboard works at all. Googling "Supermemo2004 Windows Mobile" seems to indicate there is a version for WM2003 or higher devices, you should try taking a look at that instead.

[Q] Questions by a new to Windows 8 user

These questions are regarding my Toshiba Satellite P845t-S4305 I just purchased a few days ago and absolutely love both the laptop and windows 8. I have a few questions and greatly appreciate any help anyone can provide me. I have searched to the best of my abilities and have found all other answers I needed these are what I could not find answers to.
1. Any time that I try to install Microsoft Office I am unsuccessful. I have tried both the trial for Office 365 premium and purchasing the monthly subscription for 9.99. I have an .exe file to install but when I run the program I get a UAC prompt asking me to allow the program to run. I hit yes it disappears and nothing happens. I have tried both 32bit and 64bit versions and I have tried right clicking and run as admin. I have been able to install 7-zip and chrome both of which were .exe files as well.
2. Sometime the mouse behaves weird. I am referring to the touchpad not an actual mouse itis kind of twitchy almost as though someone has connected remotely to the computer and we are both trying to control it at once but this is not the case and it is only occassionally not all the time.
3. What are the limitations to running an app in metro rather than desktop mode for example Chrome I can either run in desktop mode or relaunch in metro what if any limitations do either mode have?
4. Is there a way to get touchpad multitouch gestures similar to a Macbook such as two finger swipe to go back or forward in web browsers or four finger swipe down to open the app switcher? Pinch to zoom using either the touch screen or touchpad would also be convenient.
Thank you all so much for your time reading this I know it is a little detailed.
XDA has always saved me in the past I have no doubt you all will come through once again.
Thank you once more for good measure
The only one of those that's really about Win8 is the Metro vs. Desktop question... The truth is, unless an app is sideloaded or installed from the store, it's not really Metro. Software (including Chrome) can look and feel like Metro, but that's not the same. As for the tradeoffs, Metro apps update through the store (they can't update themselves), run in an extremely restrictive sandbox (can't even read most of the filesystem), have extremely limited multitasking (they can be snapped to the side of the screen, and if expressly written to can run in the background, but that's pretty much it), can sync state across Windows machines with the same account (without using their own syncing code), use the Settings charm for controlling options and permissions, and respond to gestures.
1: No idea what the problem is. Watch Task Manager as you begin the install; check what happens after consent.exe (the UAC prompt) goes away. Also, obviously, reboot (if you haven't already) and also make sure your Windows is up to date.
2: Hardware or driver (hardware-sepcific) problem. I can't help you, ask the manufacturer.
3: Answered above.
4: Yes, use a decent touchpad and/or driver for it. My 4 year old HP laptop supports multi-touch even in Win7.

1. Check add/remove as Toshiba may have installed a "trial" version or Starter edition. You should remove any previous versions of office installed by Toshiba, doubtful they are full and sounds like you have your own you prefer.
2. Try updated drivers, I've found the Toshiba touchpad to be very finicky and harder to control vs other's though. I have used it on Portege R930 and Z930 and I can't say I really like the experience compared with other's like HP or Dell.
4. Try the utility for the touchpad.

1. worked perfectly there was a trial version of office installed as soon as I removed it everything went as it should and I now have my office installed thank you so much
2. coming from a macbook left me with high expectations for the touchpad but the touch screen really makes up for that. I always thought the macbook would be perfect with a touchscreen.
4.I will have to look this up thank you

How to run Win8 metro apps "windowed"?

Purchased last week a notebook with Windows 8 (64bit). Couldn't find a way to run the metro apps provided in a window, they all run fullscreen mode. Anyone an idea how to accomplish this? Any hints welcome.

I use ModernMix from Stardock. Works great for me.
http://www.stardock.com/products/modernmix/
The behavior you're asking for is not officially supported. There are various third-party hacks to do it, like ModernMix. It's also possible to "snap" a Modern app one side of the screen by moving your mouse to the top edge of the screen, grabbing that edge, and dragging it to one side. Doing so will let you display the Desktop or some other Windows app on the remaining majority of the display.
Thank you guys for the info. Will give ModernMix a try.
I have found another tool to make "start" windowed.

[Q] Dosbox Turbo with Win 9x

Hi,
Im trying to run Dosbox Turbo with win9x images to run some GOG like Fallout 2. Problem is that it seems like when I check "manual mode" My mouse settings are overridden.
I usually play dos games with my stylus pen and absolute mouse positioning. This doesnt work in "manual mode", is there a setting for the config to set this up or does anyone have a Note 3 with Win 9x image who can tell me what to do?
THX!

Noone with tips on how to get the mouse to work properly in dosbox turbo? *Bump*
Seems like the problem might not be related to manual mode but something else, like resolution or how the program works with the mouse.

Dosbox Turbo - Mapping Triggers and Thumbsticks

Hi all,
This thread probably won't get much traction, but I'm pretty sure the developer for DosTurbo isn't very active anymore.
There are really two separate issues here:
1) The analog triggers are not mappable. The in-app mapper does not register them at all. I dug around quite a bit on this, and if I'm not mistaken, DosBox Turbo is really just an android port of Dosbox with some added features. Dosbox itself has it OWN mapper. Has anyone had success getting the triggers to work?
2) The thumbsticks. Now I don't know why the developer restricted the mapping here, but here are the options:
a) map a thumbstick to keyboard keys (like up, down, left, right)
b) map one thumbstick to mouse control, the other to "joystick"
You can only pick either a or b. No combination of both allowed. The problem with this is that I want one thumbstick to map to up, down, left, right and the other to map to the mouse control. You'd think (b) would work, but games without joystick support do not recognize the "joystick" so I'm stuck using the d-pad if I want mouse control on the thumbstick.
FYI, I'm trying to setup the controls of a modern shooter with Duke Nukem 3D. I am very close. The dpad control movements, the right thumbstick controls mouselook, triggers do nothing. I just want the left thumbstick to work like the dpad, and the triggers to work.
If anyone has any advice, please let me know. Like so much in the Android emulation world, things get so very close to perfect without ever reaching it.

That was actually the first emulator I tried for Dos (free version). I found it confusing because at the time I knew nothing about Dosbox. Anyway, last night I bought the full version and yes, the controller mapping is 100% compatible with the Shield Controller. Thanks!
Also it seems the developer for Magic DosBox is active, unlike all the other Dosbox ports. The UI is kind of weird... perhaps that's why I was so confused. Runecrafting and all these other references to fantasy RPGs is an unnecessary layer to the learning curve. That said, the help documentation inside the app itself is quite good.
Actually im interested as well.. can you make make a small guide, link or something for this?
I only found things in russian..
