[Q] Recover Private Mode - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry if this has been covered, but I couldn't find it anywhere.
A recent policy push from my work to encrypt my phone failed and I ended up having to reset my phone.
I've got everything back up and running. Encrypted. Rooted. Xposed. and with the XSecureStorage module I got Private Mode working again. But it doesn't recognize the previously hidden files.
Is there any way to recover these files? Or even just delete them from the SD card?
Thanks!

I found this post and i have the same problem. Viewing the private folder in windows shows 8.22 GB available of 11.5GB, but there is no file on there . Can i restore the previously lost data or even just format that partition for getting free space again?

Recover deleted photos deleted from internal memory

Hello everyone. Im sorry maybe i didnt open the discussion in the right place. I use galaxy s4 and suddenly i deleted my camera photos. And all of them were in internal memory of the phone. No ext sd card i have on my phone. The big problem is how to get the pictures back. I have root acces and running on 4.4.2 pls i need it very urgently.if anyone has idea pls right here or message me here thank u all reading this
Someone else had this issue, but in their case it was a factory reset. My recommendation to that person was to try Recuva, but unfortunately, Recuva doesn't detect the existence of the S4 at all. I did a quick google search and found an alternative that may work for you, here. Your S4 must be rooted for it to function.
I have not tried this, so I do not know if it will work. I changed the save location to the MicroSD card through the Camera's settings, as well as enabled write access to the MicroSD for all apps, so I have little to no need of this program.
Thank u. I think one more. As u said recuva doesnt detect the existence of s4. Is that possible to make something on a phone to mounts its internal drive as usb drive on a computer then we can scan it with any recovery program.
i dont think you can get your pictures back lol. since its called ''DELETE''
Not true. When a file is deleted the pointers to the file are changed to mark the space the file occupied available for writing, however the file is still present on the drive. Programs like Recuva work because the file isn't overwritten when deleted. However, Recuva doesn't recognize MTP devices. The only way Recuva can recognize a MTP device is if the transfer protocol is changed to UMS. Note that PTP mode on the S4 is NOT sufficient for the purpose.
Well how to change the transfer protocol to UMS? Any ideas?
SG USB Mass Storage Enabler will work as long as you're not on Android 4.4.x, according to the developer. Otherwise you'll need an app like Airdroid to do the job. There are other apps on the Play Store that may work.
EDIT: Some added research here seems to indicate that doing this will not work on the internal storage, as the internal storage has not been a separate partition since Android 3.0 according to Google. Try it, but I suspect @xDroidZz is correct, though not for the reason he thinks.
One more interesting is that possible to mount internal.file system over recovery? I have cwm recovery . I mean to mount file system through recovery before system boots and recover files then. Is that idea possible?

Plz help Lost all data after SDCARD0 folder delete

Guys as usual I was talking backup via PC.
I found two folders into my Internal memory named SDCARD0 & SDCARD0.
I thought it must be a duplicate and deleted one of them.
Immediately I found I lost all my data from Internal memory.
Folders like whatsapp, dcim, movies and all other whcih were created by other apps got lost.
So has i actually accidentally deleted them due to sdcard0 folder or they are present but HIDDEN somewhere?
Coz still my internal memory says 3.60gb free which was same size before doing this unusual accident.
My phone hasnt got any root access.
Please how can I get back my files in this case?
My all apps r functioning properly except they lost all their custom settings...
What can be done to get my data back from Internal memory?
What you can do is, NEVER DELETE SUCH FOLDERS AGAIN.
To be aware of this in future, have a backup via foldersync or similar...
The chance that ull get ur data back going against zero...sorry
-EDIT: REQUIRES ROOT-
Oh you can do it. Did it myself a few weeks ago..

is there no way of running recovery software when plugged into a PC? I know I saved a lot of data from a camera while back by scanning its memory in recova or something similar while hooked up via usb
You should do some research first if you don't know something

Lost all of my Private Mode files after update from 4.4.2 to 6.0.1

It's been a while since I last asked for help here but this is serious... I (finally) updated my S5 to Official Android 6.0.1 and now I can't access my Private Mode files. Accessing them isn't the problem, problem's that I don't even see them when I use Root Browser and go in the private folder. But all of my internal storage files are there, same with the SD Card files (all hidden files were on the SD Card). I tried reflashing KitKat and enabling Private Mode to no success. How to get back my files?

SD Card Decryption

I have been searching high and low for hours and cannot find anything related to my situation.
I am replacing my V20. The SD card is encrypted. I attempted to decrypt it on the V20 but it would hang at 1%. Sat there for several hours. I read one post that said I needed to disable screen lock and reboot the phone. I disabled screen lock, did NOT reboot, tried to decrypt gain, sat over night, didn't go past 1%. Rebooted phone, now I no longer have the option to decrypt the SD Card. I reenabled lock screen with same password and still no option to decrypt. I tried using Cryptonite to decrypt it, I get to a point it asks for a password, but then gives me an error stating there was a problem with file permissions or the password. The V20 is not rooted. Hesitant to root it and risk losing all of the encryption keys. Closest thing to a solution I have been able to find is to copy the files to a PC, format the sd card, encrypt it, copy the files back, then decrypt. This seems quite hoakie to me.
PLEASE HELP!!!!
The long way of transferring data to and from computer seems to be the only option

The problem is, the data is still encrypted and unreadable to the phone or computer. If I copy the encrypted files to the PC, format the SD card, encrypt it, then copy the files back, won't the phone double encrypt the files? Or will the phone recognize they are already encrypted and "unlock" them?
If I go this route as a test, will DD in Linux make a sufficient enough bit for bit copy of the SD card to restore it as if nothing happened? Is there a Windows alternative that would work just as well?

I think what Still_living714 meant was that you have to use the V20 to access the SD card and copy the data to a computer using USB or a network connection through it.

I understand that. But the V20 isn't even able to read the files even though they were encrypted on that device. Most of the files are not readable. So copying an unreadable, encrypted file, from the device via USB, to a PC, will still result in an unreadable encrypted file on the PC. I then format the SD Card on the V20 and reencrypt it. I then copy the still unreadable and encrypted file back to the SD Card which is in the same V20. Now the V20 is going to encrypt that file again making it double encrypted, correct? Or will the V20 recognize that it is already encrypted and give me access to the file since the lock screen password was reset back to what it was before this fiasco started?
Maybe I'm just not explaining the situation correctly.

Umm, that's not how the encryption on an external SD card works on android.
If the OS fails to decrypt the card, the whole thing is inaccessible. Android encryption is not a "per file" encryption.
Forget all of the double encryption nonsense. No file is ever double encrypted you simply copied encrypted files from the SD Card to new device/pc, and copied them back to a formatted and re-encrypted SD Card in hopes you can decrypt them. Thus, is there a way to decrypt it (period)? That's the real question!!!!
So, can someone answer the real question. Especially, I'm having the same problem after upgrading to a S10+ from a S8+ that I traded in. So, now I can't read nor access 14.3 GBs out of 16 GB SD Card; which is unacceptable.

Verizon S7, Factory Defaulted, Any Possibility of Recovering Files?

My son messed with my password entry, and the phone defaulted after too many "failed attempts".
I had about 2 weeks of pictures and videos on the phone that I would like to attempt to recover. They were stored on internal storage, not an SD card. The last time I attempted recovering anything was on a previous phone. Just mounted it, ran Recuva, and grabbed the available files.
With this G930V on Oreo, I can't mount it as a drive any longer, I can't seem to scan for files meaningfully from any app or from a computer without root access, and I can't find a meaningful way to get root access (I've rooted a few phones before, but I can't find a working way to do this one).
Is there any meaningful way to recover files after such a factory default, or should I just accept the loss at this point?
Thank you.
