Wifi antenna location - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ive been trying to find out which contacts in the samsung s4 are for the wifi antenna, so that i can look into attaching an external higher gain antenna. Ive seen the cable on the side called the wifi antenna cable but upon disconnecting it i didn't see a drop in wifi connectivity, can someone confirm that this is in fact part of the wifi system. When i unplugged the cable i only lost cellular connectivity. Can someone post pics or draw n a pic to show where the wifi antenna is inside the phone. Thanks

Hardware question

with an external antenna do you think you could incress the wifi distance and connection speeds availble another words
is the external antenna connection on the back of the wizard linked to the antenna of the wifi antenna... if so this should incress wifi distances
anyone?
plus aim me xprojectzaox
ZAO like the christian metalcore band?

My HTC Touch HD has weak wifi signal

anybody know how to repair this? my Touch HD's wifi signal is very weak. I'm right beside my router and I'm only getting 2 bars. I move it away about 10 feet and it gets no signal. I happen to have an Nokia E71 and the signal is very good. having them turned on the wifi at the same time and at the same spot. (
Can anyone help me please?

There's a slider under All settings -> connections -> wifi -> advanced -> power mode. Change it from "Best battery" to "Best performance"..
This helped a lot in my case, although I admit that Wifi connections are still a little weak. I think the hardware wise the chip HTC used is not of top quality. However it has helped me a lot, give it a try...
mine works very well even when im upstaires in my house so not sure of your problem. how good is your home pc wifi connection?
The WIFI and Bluetooth signals are very week, like if there was no antenna. The touch HD finds my WIFI access point only when I'm in the same room of the router. If I move only 5 meters away it loses the connection. My notebook and Nokia E71 work without any problem and find my network at the other side of my apartment. I tried to make a hard reset but nothing changed, same results. I also tried to change WIFI settings (best performance instead of best battery).... same thing I tried to remove WEP keys from my router, change IP address and so on without success.
Same problem here

I find that unless I am right next to the wireless router then I will only get 1 bar of signal. Wifi reception is just weak :/
TC,
Well, a lot of factors play into the reception of WIFI Signals. Firstly, are you living in a wood-based home, or are you living in a place where homes are constructed from pure cement and concrete?
Cheers.
its not the signal from the router but its the Blackstone wifi ( and bluetooth )signal from the device is very weak.
And its on best performance.....
And when i bought the device it had a very good signal.

Could you enlighten me with information on the location of the wireless cable and how to do it as I have never tried it before. Thanks in advance.
well you need the HD Service Manaul which shows you how to open the Phone.. it also shows the Where The GPS & Wireless/Lan Cable are located....

Thanks WaveyKat, it worked like a charm, I have wi-fi back
I have added a photo of the cable to reconnect. I think that it would be better to put some glue on it, but I did not do it
Thank God, finally found this thread to realize that I am not alone to have the weak wi-fi signal issue. Actually the blue-tooth function is also not functioning. So I decide to try the method that suggested by WaveyKat. Already found the Blackstone Service Manual on the web. I need to order the screw-drivers Philips 0, and Torex T5 which can be found on eBay, but cannot find the flat plastic stick P/N: RTT00006. Does anyone know where to order it on the web? Please advise and thanks!

I have used a simple small flat screw-driver to unscrew all these 6 screws, it worked fine.
Instead of RTT00006 I used an old credit card + а plastic spoon However I've spent about an hour to remove the antenna cover, it was the most difficult part.
This video can help : search in google "htc-touch-hd-disassembling" (sorry I cannot use external URLs)
hey guys
same problem here...
i was using the Nokia N85 and used to play in my house without problems...
with doors closed it works fine...
but now with the Touch HD i can't...
that's so sad!
should i come back to Nokia N85?
LoL
OMG!
I had bought a secondhand touch hd and the wifi was barely working. I was so disappointed until I read this. I opened my device and noticed the cable was loose, I connected it and voila, it immediately found a network!
Thank you so much!
Howe open Touch HD? Please pictures or video
Thanks

i have trouble to connect to wifi. have problem connecting to wifi where other phones, NB dont its just showing low signal... can someone hlp?? thx in advance
How many "bars" do you get when sitting right next to (3 feet/1 meter) a wireless router?
its full but when i go further like next room it drops to one bar and disconnects. thats my wifi at home and when i want to connect to someones wifi i have one bar where he has full ... would it work if i go to winodows mobile 7 or i checked forums and there is a way to enable 802,11n and it should fix the range of the wifi

looks like ur having the same problem as he is. check this thread and read thru post #5 to last.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150312
+ check if you can get any BLUETOOTH connection (pairing)
if it fails...definately a loose cable issue as i mentioned in that thread.
BT is working perfect even in range where wifi makes problems so i dont think the cable is the problem. if im in one meter distance wifi get full bars but when i check the signal longer it drops to half and back to full. so when the signal is half or less it drops below range and the connection failes. can you tell me whats the max distance of the wifi in HTC HD2??? have the phone in warranty so will try that but dont think they accept this so trying to solve it my self...
depends on the router
is it possible to buy better wifi chip to my phone?
my router is D-link dsl 2641R

A USB antenna, as in, a WiFi antenna?
what is a USB antena ?
Normally, it's a dongle that plugs into a USB slot. You can buy them just about anywhere and use them on just about any computer - but typically you use them when you either don't have a card installed or don't want CAT5 running around the house.
I don't know why one would want one for the tab as it has integrated WiFi.
I have a feeling he meant 3g.
Yes a WiFi antenna so I can increase the ability of the tablet to connect to weak signals.
I don't think that would be supported. WiFi dongles typically have software that has to run alongside them and there's nothing like that for our Tabs (or any Tabs for that matter). That I'm aware of, anyways.
If you're looking to get a stronger signal at home, get a WiFi booster(s) and place them around the house in areas that have poor signal - as for trying to increase signal strength in public places, you're sol.
put ddwrt on old router like linksys you're set for wifi repeater
I know this thread is old, but I did not want to start a new one. Had anyone ever seen this: roklandllc.blogspot.com/2010/10/bearextender-n3-wi-fi-usb-adapter.html ?
Apparently they had the device work, just by plugging it into a Android device called a FlyTouch 2. I wonder what it is about that device that allows it to work. I think they noted that the FT2 was running 2.1 I believe on another site.
I do not know if it would be more of a burden to have an external Wifi, but it is interesting. I am thinking of buying one if I can find it on sale next month, when we have money.
people are getting bactrack working and that has built in support for the awuso36 wifi adapter

WIFI keeps dropping

I've been looking everywhere for answers with no such luck. I notice when I try to watch videos via youtube or using skype or FB, or even if I'm not doing anything at all, the WIFI connection all of a sudden the connection drops for 2-10 seconds then reconnects again. Whenever this happens, WIFI analyzer shows: "not connected, Authentication failed"
I'm currently using my university's wifi network (Eduroam), so I'm getting signal from 10 APs in total and most of them are using channel 11 and the rest are using either channel 1 or 6, so i thought it might be some interference issue till i bought a TP-Ling mini router and set it to channel 14 which is not being used by anybody near me but I'm still having the same problem.
any Ideas ?.
P.S. I'm using PA rom, but I had the same problem with stock rom.
With numerous threads on this topic it doesn't even seem like you tried to search out solutions. Most solutions have to with making sure the N7 shell is fully snapped into place all the way around. A gap can cause loss of signal with the wi-fi antenna. Some have even opened the case and slightly bent the connector pins to make better contact, but be careful with that. Changing to a static IP has worked for others. Please learn how to search.

I've done alot of searching, there is nothing wrong with the shell, I tried the Static IP, and i even tried the nexus 4 patch which fixes the wifi dropping issue in sleeping mode (I forgot its name)
thank u anyway.
