[Q] Root, S-off/unlock/superCID, and ROMs - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
I intend to acquire a used S5 - G900A (because HTC one M8 has sealed battery) in the following weeks but have several questions.
Is it possible to:
Unlock for other carriers? I will be using outside US and at least baseband-wise 4G should work.
S-off for any ROMS? (or it doesn't matter in S5? I use HTC).
What are the major ROMs? Dynamic Kat / Visix / Unity ?
And difference between them? (I find the descriptions confusing).
Thanks.

[Q] Is it possible to get the GS4 i9505 on Att with CM?

So due to circumstances I am going to be moving to AT&T phone service. Right now I have a nexus 4 which is great. I love how open it is and that I have Cyanogenmod on it and many other things. But I will have the ability to get a new phone when I switch to AT&T. The GS4 is better in a lot of way (cpu, gpu, screen, sd slot) and the same size (essentially) as my Nexus 4. The problem is it isn't as open an environment.
In doing my research if I were to use the AT&T variant I wouldn't be able to even install a custom recovery. I am looking for other options. One I thought of was to sell the AT&T variant and pick up an international one. From what I can see if I picked up the snapdragon GS4 I9505, i would be able to install CM on it and use in on AT&T without much trouble.
From what I've seen in these forums it should be a problem to use the international version. I can just root and install a recovery and CM. I may need to SIM unlock it but that would be it. I wanted to confirm that and ask a few other specific questions.
Does it work with AT&T LTE?
Is the bootloader unlocked?
Are there stock recovery images?
If there is anything in the process that would be a problem?
Thanks for the help.

[Q] Back in the Saddle....with a Sprint GS5

Hello everyone!
It has been a while since I have been on XDA and I am back in the saddle with a Sprint GS5.
Technically, I am going to purchase my GS5 today or tomorrow and I am interested in getting rid of the all the Bloat on the phone (Samsung stuff, etc). A few questions I have are as follows:
Using the Link below, I will be unlocking and rooting the phone, it appears to be pretty self explanatory, is this the best option to use?
Just in case, is there a default or stock Samsung Sprint ROM I can restore? For example, there were default roms your could restore on your phone to take back to the store for warranty work?
Are there any barebones Kit Kat 4.4.X roms that can be run on the GS5? I am coming off a MotoX which I loved the stock KitKat ROM
I see there are a few different recoveries to use, does one work better than the other? Easier to use?
The Galaxy ~S5~ All in one support thread!**NOOB FRIENDLY**
Thanks for any help and suggestions (Links, readying, etc.)

[Q] Different device types?

Was looking at the unified rom section to see if it's worth to go ahead and root my phone as I've held off. Got really lost quickly with all these abbreviations. kltexx, kltelra, kltetmo, kltecan, klteatt, klteub, klte acg, kltedcm, klte. So many. I know mine is kltetmo as I have a TMO S5. Does that limit my rom choices to ONLY kltetmo or would i be able to flash a klte build? I know i wouldn't want to flash a klteatt and such but what about just klte?
thanks!
the same as that question. How can everyone help me?
How can i distinguish kltexx,kltelra,kltetmo,kltecan,klteatt,klteub,klte acg,kltedcm,klte?????
You can use klte ROMs on your T-mobile which is international LTE (900F) since both are GSM.
Can anyone help me with my model s5(SM-G900R7) are there any roms out that I can flash I'm kinda new to this

What to do with a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N900S - that's 'ESS' not 'five'

I have an N900S - it's the south-korean Telekom take on the SM-9005. But I'm in France and some of the French LTE bands aren't open.
By the specs it appears to be exactly the same as an N9005 except that it has a weird retractable radio antenna and these pesky blocked LTE bands.
It's rooted - finally - thanks to philz recovery which has a specific binary for the beast, and I've got all the tooling necessary to hack into the NanD storage and looked at all the tutorials and (finally) freed up the modem mode system menu.
But as the tutorials point out, I need a kernel built from AOSP to actually get in and permanently activate those LTE bands. And, it being the ESS, not 5, I have not yet found one.
So it's time to get there myself! Like any good programmer (and I am reasonably good), my principle attribute is laziness, so the first port of call is here - amongst the experts.
Here we go then:
. Does anyone know what the principle differences are between the ESS and the 5 - what is that make a 5 ROM/kernel, be a bricklayer on an ESS?
. Is anyone already working on this (I find no dev references anywhere)?
. If the answers to the above are negative, can anyone point me in the right direction for acquiring this knowledge for myself?
Thanks
The main difference between 900S and 9005 is the bootloader, but any AOSP/CM ROM from lollipop 5.0 supports both models fully.
For kernels which work with stock TW ROMs, I believe arter's kernels should he compatible, but you will want to read his instructions first.

Install clean (non-carrier) rom on SGS5

Hello,
I want to install a clean (non-carrier) ROM on my girlfriend's SGS5 (SM-G900W8). This is a canadian Fido phone. The reason I want to install the clean ROM is that they removed some parts of the ROM to scam people. For example, they removed a Data Toggle from the Notification Panel. Also, I want this SGS5 to receive updates as soon as they are out, not when FIdo decides to update it.
So I searched on SamMobile and found that there are just other carriers firmwares and 2 uknowns.
So my questions are:
1. What should I do in order to get a clean SGS5 rom on SM-G900W8?
2. What are those unknowns?
3. Is the phone going to work properly on Fido if I install other / non-carrier firmware?
Sorry if these are some stupid question. I am a Nexus user and never had these issues before...
The W8 version will definitely work with any of the T-Mobile roms and most of the other roms. If you're looking for stock roms, all the canadian carrier firmwares are cross flashable, meaning you can flash the firmwares from Bell, Rogers, Telus, Wind, etc.

Thanks for a quick reply.
Would you recommend any specific firmware? Without any issues and with the least amount (or absence) of bloatware?
I recommend the pure note 5 rom available in the developement section. It's very fast, stable and awesome battery life (I get 5 hours of screen time). I suggest waiting a few days since V6.5 is coming out soon though.

Oh, I thought that It's only OK to install ROMs for SM-G900W8 only. Can you please explain what kind of ROMs I can install on her SGS5 (SM-G900W8)?
I checked the N5 Port - looks awesome. I think I will install that one.
You can install most roms that are developed for the snapdragon variant. I installed the rom on my T-mobile S5 (G900T) and it works flawlessly.
