Looks like all those wifi recovery apps for rooted phones just give back a hex/binary code instead of the actual wifi password
anyway to decrypt these?
all wifi passwords are in a text file

It's difficult to give you an useful answer since you provided no details at all. You'll get better answers if you tell us exactly how you tried to recover a password, program names, versions, examples, et cetera.
Start with telling us what you see in

I wanted to enable wifi tethering with my Verizon Galaxy Tab to my Fascinate. Now I cannot get my Tab to see any networks.
I thought I'd made a clean copy of my original wpa_supplicant. BUT I cannot find it - seems to have gotten deleted.
If someone would post me a clean copy of the /system/bin/wpa_supplicant I would greatly appreciate.
Thanks

Hi,
So far none of the modifications i've tried worked, so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
1) Removed "bcm_supp.conf", so it got recreated - no effect.
2) Took a copy of "wpa_supplicant.conf" and renamed it "bcm_supp.conf" since they may have the same contents - no effect.
3) Modified "wifi.conf" with a different path and the file got recreated there - no effect.
[....
SUPP_CONFIG_TEMPLATE=/system/etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
SUPP_CONFIG_FILE=/data/wifi/bcm_supp.conf ==> SUPP_CONFIG_FILE=/data/misc/wifi/bcm_supp.conf
...
SUPP_CONF_FILEPATH=/data/misc/wifi/
...]
Rebooted the unit after each experiment and attempted to turn wifi on. It tries to scan and finds absolutely nothing (no AP) even though it used to.
Thanks
when i change my wpa_supplicant file to see adhoc networks i faced the same problem and i figured that it was because of the file security settings chmod it to 766 and it worked. you can try this.

I found a wpa_supplicant.conf in /etc/ and a bcm_supp.conf in /data/misc/wifi (not in (/data/wifi like I read in many forum posts). Which of these files do I need to remove or correct in my Samsung Moment 2.1?

No, for the "unable to scan for wireless networks" problem.

Run fx explorer
Mount /etc fs as read/write (click on tools icon in fx explorer)
Overwrite apns-conf.xml in /etc

Hey, thanks so far BUT..
i did everything, it showed me the Overwrite/Merge option and i did so, but when i restarted the phone, it still displayed the APN list not complete thingy. Is it possible that my country's setting aren't in the other conf.xml file and if so is there anyway i can insert them in.

Does this app need root access? I bought one of these (A760) for a friend of mine, but the phone is not able to create APN for lycamobile in UK (same problems mentioned in this thread).
Would installing he application from play market solve the problem? Or it will need root permission?
why when i open fx explorer root it says your device is not rooted? help me plz

problems with CWM
I've had quite a few problems before i managed to get it working:
1. flashed CWM from ADB, but every time I rebooted to recovery it was still the same (original)
2. So i had to install VROOT (http://www.mgyun.com/en/GetVRoot) to apply root and then renamed /system/recovery-from-boot.p to something else
3. Then i flashed CWM again and it worked.
4. I flashed AudiROMv1.zip from cwm.
Then my phone recognized MOBITEL (Slovenian) APN.

Dear all,
I am currently using a totally stock unrooted Note 4 (the G variant). I need to retrieve a wifi password for my school wifi network, which I cannot recall. I tried using adb to retrieve wpa_supplicant.conf from my phone (adb pull /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf c:/wpa_supplicant.conf), but apparently the file does not exist (the exact error message I got was "the remote object '/data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf' does not exist").
Can anyone with a rooted phone advise me if the above address is the correct location for the wpa_supplicant.conf on our Note 4? If not, where is the exact location for this file? Is it because the phone is not rooted that prevents me from retrieving the file using adb?
Any other solution would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Without root we can still use adb, which I believe is sufficient for the purpose of retrieving files from root folders (I may be wrong, that is why I ask the question in my OP), one of which contains all saved wifi passwords. Regardless, I find it extremely hard to believe that Samsung will ever entertain such a request if you approach them.
Since I have you here, and assuming that you are using a rooted Note 4, could you let me know where you can find the file wpa_supplicant.conf on your Note 4? You can use ES File Explorer to navigate to those root folders.
Thank you.

I'm not a expert on non rooted phones, but I think to use adb, you need at least a permissive selinux kernel and a non secure kernel.
Without that 2 conditions your better solution is the Facebook of Samsung.
....and yes. Your path for wpa_suppIicant.conf is correct and that file contains wifi passwords.
Hi there,
I am using the simple swipe unlock method, but often that also unlocks your phone in your pocket. When it did unlock it did something and now I cannot change my screen lock type, when I open settings>lock screen>screenlock it asks for 'Confirm PIN', while I never set a PIN. I tried all the ones I would possibly have set somewhere, but it doesn't work. I read somewhere that there are other people unable to change their lock type, and the solution would be to clear credentials, however, that option is greyed out.
I deactivated and activated device administrators, I cannot encrypt and decrypt my phone, as some people suggest, because it then also asks for a PIN.
Does someone know how to tackle this problem without a factory reset?
I have a SM-G900F with android 6.0.1
Thanks!

Thank you for the info but it didn't work me.
Can you help me with another but similar issue please ?
I have TWRP Nandroid BACKUP zipped files downloaded from internet.
I open with 7zip and try to delete some files but can not as 7zip says : Read Only.
I have Debian as well on my computer. I transferred the zipped file there to change permissions. I did this successfully but somehow I can not open zipped file in Debian at all. There are 2 applications on Debian to open zipped file, both of them show and empty window, look like nothing inside.
How can I pass the Read-Only problem ?
Important. Root required.....
Hey everyone,I saw so many posts regarding Android & iOS that the Mac address is changing to 02:00:00:00:00 and WiFi is greyed out. None of the WiFi or hotspot not turning on.I get the same problem in my Condor and I searched a lot for the solution.I go for factory reset, full reset, flashing stock, radio etc.... But nothing helped. Some strange solution was to hit the back of the phone, put it in the freezer etc...I tried many other ways and that worked only was putting a file named
WCNSS_qcom_wlan_factory_nv.bin
In to the folder / persist....... But it worked me for exactly 1 day and the problem still continued.
So I tried a new method which helped me a lot........
Steps
1.Take a back up of folders /persist and/data/misc/WiFi
2.unzip the below attachment and put the file WCNSS_qcom_wlan_factory_nv.bin
To /Persist folder.
3.[important step].use any file manager to give full permission to the file(Use ES file explorer, I used solid explorer that provides more permission, if ES doesn't work use Solid explorer)..
4. Restart the phone
5. Now your WiFi will be back to rock............
If doesn't work try clearing the folder /data/misc/WiFi/wpa supplicant... And /persist....
If any thing goes wrong use back up's......
Don't forget to hit thanks if it worked......and don't blame me if it doesn't worked......

Should I root my phone first?
I also have a condor with the same problem, but I checked in the root directory and in the /persist folder the file " WCNSS_qcom_wlan_factory_nv.bin" is already there, and so is the "bt_nv.bin"...How should I make my WiFi and Bluetooth work ,it has been like this for months , appreciate any advice
i cant see any folder and i can't make folder in my phone how can i fix it?..
Thanx a lot bro, it work for my phone Moto G 2013
Self corrected?
After flashing the last ViperOS rom, my phone got the 02:00:00:00:00:00 physical address. The phone was still connecting to wireless lan but I wanted to correct the wrong address. Something weird happened while I was prepairing the phone to follow the recommended steps for correcting the physical address issue: for managing files, root permissions is needed... so when I flashed SuperSU and restarted the phone, the physical address was corrected... I don't know why, I don't know how...
This may help
