Hello,
I have been using Snapshot M8 for longest time and have quite enjoyed it.
For last day or so, i have been trying to update to M10 but i have been unsuccesful.
Im very technical savvy but when it comes to understanding some of lingo on this board, i am terrible.
So, ive tried updating to the KitKat firmware but after so much trouble ive decided to abandon it in favor of the JellyBean firmware. After bricking my phone over and over again, i finally got back to stock 4.4.2 with working modem's and the like. Also, ive reverted back stock recovery.
Ive read through quite a few threads but to no avail, can not understand how to upgrade or downgrade to M10.
Can anyone help me find what version of the firmware i have and advise me how to upgrade to M10? (jellybean, since i heard they're are problems)
I hate asking for help, i just cant understand what to do.
ALSO, THANK YOU DEVELOPERS for such a great port!
I believe you need the KK bootloader for M10.
So you'll need to flash this first (or just an official stock KitKat firmware), then a compatible recovery (e.g. CWM 6.0.4.9) and then CM M10.
lem22,
Thank you for your reply!
So its not a good idea to flash M10 using the jellybean firmware?
I can successfully flash CMW 6.0.4.9 using RSDLite. (ive become quite fluent after bricking my phone, haha.)
but when i tried to install M10 through CWM i get a status 7 error, i believe im flashing with 6.0.4.9 KitKat.
You must flash KitKat update first (http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=8), then compatible recovery and then CM11 M10.
I suggesting to use CM Nightly builds (mine is 9/27, which is more stable than snapshot builds.

So, I gave my girlfriend my DInc last year when I got a new phone. Put a fresh install of CM7.1 on it and it's been running well since then. Well, I'm trying to breath some new life into it, but I've been completely out of touch with DInc ROMs for over a year now and I am lost.
What is the most stable ROM available for the DInc at this point? I'd like to put JB on the phone, but ICS would be fine.
Will I need to update the bootloader? Radio? Newest recovery?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm so far behind I am at a loss reading through everything in the development section. Any help is greatly appreciated.

1. ROM? Tiny's CM10 (formerly Pons's CM10) is arguably the best and most actively maintained, and even the latest CM10.1 (Android 4.2.1) is a very stable ROM. If you care about recording videos you're better off sticking with GB, otherwise, JB is as stable as ICS. Evervolv JB also is a good Android 4.2 ROM.
2. Radio? The latest radio (2.15.10.12.20) seems to be the preferred one, cmlusco has a thread about it on here somewhere.
3. Bootloader? HBOOT 1.07 is the latest, and if you unlock it through htcdev it adds some extra features like flashing things through fastboot.
4. Recovery? CWM is still perfectly fine, but TWRP has been gaining a lot of traction lately and is very nice. Installing it can be a bit troublesome, it's best installed using fastboot and an unlocked HBOOT 1.02 or 1.07.
You do not need to update the radio, bootloader, or recovery to put JB on it though. You can just flash the ROM (full wipe if coming from CM 7.1 of course) and all should be well.

I think you meant to say the only reason you havent upgraded - in which case, me too! I've found Tiny's latest CM10.1 nightly (01/26/2013) to be stable. Everything is working for me (GPS, camera, wifi, etc) with the exception of video, automatic brightness, and the preview is occasionally glitchy when taking pictures. The glitchy preview problem can be solved by using something like camera360. Unfortunately, there are no solutions for the automatic brightness and video problems that I know of at the moment...
Stability...your pretty much on it Anything based off 2.3.x will be your best bet in my opinion. GB is rock solid. While its nice to have updated software it comes at a price/missing features etc... It doesn't hurt to try out different roms but i feel in the end you will stay on GB. I switched off the rom in my sig back to Bugless 2.3.7 GB incredikernal EXT4 mod. Haven't looked back.
Latest Radio is in my sig.
Hello, newbie here. Not a dev, but I've been flashing roms on my last few phones and I'd like to think i have half a clue what I'm doing, lol.
Was reading through this thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2664652&page=4
I'm currently running CloudyStock 1.0 with TWRP 2.6.3.5. I understand i can keep root by flashing SuperSU right after flashing the ROM, but will it cause problems if i flash any other mods before rebooting (like the walkman mod, for instance)?
So I flashed this rom last night. Works great and still rooted. IMHO since your coming from different Android versions I would not flash a mod in the middle of flashing a new rom.
1. It may not be compatible with 4.4.2 framework etc.
2. Much like you I've been around this for awhile and it seems like with this phone there is no really easy way to get back to a previous version of Android without wiping everything. Upon flashing this rom the Kit Kat version overwrites the TWRP or custom recovery.
Personally I would wait to flash mods until someone cracks this and makes it where TWRP can work with Kit Kat. Which will not take too long I imagine. Xposed doesn't work yet with 4.4.2 missing that... Hope this helps!

1. DO NOT Flash CM11 or any ROM without the 3.4 kernel, official cm11 is now based on the 3.4 kernel , @epinter 's are not.
2. DO NOT flash an old recovery not for the kit kat boot loader.
3. DON'T NOT make a backup before flashing roms so you can easily go back.
everyone please add your suggestions i will update the op with them.

dhacker29 has some cm11 builds with a 3.4 as well as a working recovery for our updated phones. I just flashed his latest cm11 build with 3.4 kernel and so far so good. Only been running a couple hours while at work so it hasn't been put through the paces yet either. If you go to the Android Dev section and go to the CM11 Official thread you can a link to the 3.4 builds at the bottom of the 1st post. Good luck

I can confirm Apollo doesn't work. Play music works with bugs however. When I choose a song it says can't stream but when I choose the same song again it plays.
So I can play

Ok so Im going on a road trip in a few days. Pandora doesnt even work with CM11. I guess my only option is to RSD back to VZW_XT926_4.4.2-KDA20.62-10_1FF.xml. The stock kit kat bootloader ONLY works with these 2 ROMs and only 1 is stable enough to not be near a PC for a week. If I'm missing any other options feel free to chime in...

Try PowerAmp, working for me on a razr m
New to installing mods
I'm pretty new to modding, so I was just wondering how beneficial it is to install for example cyanogen mod vs the latest kit kat on the razr hd. I hear people praising how good mods are, but then I constantly read about the bugs and glitches to the most common things people use such as music or camera. Is there a mod out there that is 100% better than the current kitkat build no matter how you slice it, or are there always going to be trade offs?

If you are on the KK bootloader i would use the stock KK ROM for now just because all the devs are going to have to port there ROMs to work on the new bootloader. The only one you can use right now other then stock is CM11 only by Dhacker29. The Epinter CM11 build is still only for use on JB bootloader. So RIGHT NOW the ONLY stable ROM in STOCK KK. You can not downgrade the KK bootloader to JB no matter if you are unlocked or not.
In a week or 2 i am very sure we will have more options, but remember this phone is almost 2 years old. None of us thought in a million years MOTO would release an update with an open exploit that was closed last year on the 9.16 build.

I would have my phone on CWM 6.0.4.9 recovery. That one is specific for the KK bootloader. The version you have is pretty much useless for flash KK roms.

I have an SGH-i337z on Cricket and I was able to root and install TWRP using hroark13's method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...cket-aio-sgh-i337z-jflteaio-twrp-2-7-t2858698)
I've been trying various CM builds, the Google Play Edition ROM and PACMAN, but they all seem to have issues (5GHz WiFi, one app or another not working properly, notification glitches). To be fair, they are AT&T ROMs. Also, it takes a bit of work to install as you have to remove the asserts line from each ROM before installing. But if you just want to root and use TWRP to backup it works fine!

Just out of curiosity, was the GPE ROM you tried the Lollipop one? Also, are there any roms for this phone that work well and stable in your experience?
I haven't tried any lollipop roms yet. The 4.4.4 kitkat GPE ROM was stable with the exception of breaking a music streaming app I use (subsonic). It was also the only ROM that identified the carrier as Cricket instead of AT&T.
Pacman I didn't really like so i can't speak much for its stability.
CM11 can be hit or miss. The nightly seem more stable than the stable or milestone versions usually, but one gave me 5GHz wifi problems. I was never able to use 5GHz with the milestone I tried.
Right now i am using 12/13 nightly CM11 and it has been running very well. I really like the slider shortcuts on the CM lock screen, so I'll probably just stick with CM.

Yes, CM11 is working great! If anything is broken I haven't come across it yet. There are certainly a lot available and any unified or AT&T ROM should work (no need for safestrap), so feel free to try out anything that looks good! I liked GPE and it seemed to work really well until I found it didn't work with one app I use occasionally (subsonic). You might not have any issues with apps you use. I also seemed to get better battery life with GPE. The wifi issue I had with an older CM11 build seems to have been fixed, so that's working well now. The author of the root I used seems to like Skyfall, so you could go that way if you like touchwiz.
Have some fun trying out a couple, and make a backup before installing something different so you can easily go back if you decide you liked one better.

Hey everyone, I've been away for a very long time from this device (and forum obviously), I need some help catching up. My device is currently running rastapop rom (5.0.1) with CWM 6.0.4.7. I want to renew my device with a clean, latest and stablest rom, I dont care about features or Android version. Can anyone recommend me a good, solid rom, and provide some details regarding the installation? (e.g should I update bootloader or CWM?)
Many thanks in advance.
I found that the latest stock 5.1.1 on a nexus 4 is very stable without any issues.
Latest build of purenexus rom is awesome.
I had been away from this phone for a while as well and I have to agree the latest Pure Nexus is butter(first I updated to the latest official 5.1.1 to get the latest partition updates.). Better than average battery life, super stable. I've yet to have a single reboot or any other unpleasantness.

The first thing you should do is to flash the latest twrp recovery, CWM is not maintained anymore for the nexus 4.
