DSP Manager - Omni Q&A

Hello. I'm running Omni 4.4.4-20140913-hammerhead-NIGHTLY on my Nexus 5. It seems that DSP manager does nothing to the sound quality when playing music using Google Play Music, Songza or any other music app. Changing compression, eq settings, etc has no effect on the sound. Am I missing something? Is there something I'm not doing?

At least in the past, it's always been a bit of a limitation of DSP Manager that many apps would effectively bypass it. This goes back a long time, well before Omni.

DSPManager and Voodoo on CM10

As much as I like how nice Android 4.+ looks, I'm still running CM7 because I can't seem to get the sound I want on CM10.
Just now, I think I found out the reason why.
FYI, JetAudio is my music player. I like it a lot and would never leave it since it has everything I want: folder playback and reverb.
On CM7, I'm using the combo JetAudio SFX + DSP settings + Voodoo.
On CM10, DSP settings + Voodoo only seem to work on Apollo. Maybe because other apps think DSP is Apollo's EQ instead of a standalone app.
At first, I thought it was JetAudio's problem, but it's the same for RockPlayer and BSPlayer.
Please some devs look into it.
Or is that how you guys want to implement it?
Why do you bother with dspmanager if you have Voodoo ? I always delete it at flash, so the Voodoo is used + players EQ. Too many EQ's doesn't make sense trying to set them up properly, like 3 people trying to drive the bus.

I also rock both voodoo and DSP, but I usually disable any of its functions when the similar function is enabled in the other app. Example, I usually have bass booster enabled in voodoo and disabled in DSP. Also, I find voodoo crucial for its Smart Amplifier since I find that the sound on my headset is too low for my liking, while the DSP equalizer is quite useful when I want to tweak my sounds. If given the choice though, I'd prefer using the MusicFX apk from stock android, since I find that it works best with voodoo sound.

Isn't voodoo integrated into DSp manager?

Congrats on posting and still not answering the question.
I'm using AOSP and manually flashed DSP manager bzw. voodoo sound. It's a great combo that simply gives more options.
Using the first flahsable zip suggested here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1891017 you may try the beats v3 one if you want to.
Yes, I'm using CM9 DSP manager in jelly bean, it's compatible.

Congrats on posting and still not answering the question!
If you read properly, you can see he already has DSP installed on his CM10 setup (surprise surprise, it comes with it!), just that it doesn't seem to engage properly when using any other player than Apollo.
OP, reading DSP manager help:
"DSP Manager is per-output audio adjustment application.....
The manager can only enable it for applications which are compliant with android's audio effects specification, i.e. most music players."
That means players with their own EQ in CM9/10 won't be working. Google Music will work, so will Apollo. It's an Android limitation I believe that was introduced with ICS.
So, that's not a solution for your problem sadly, but rather an explanation. Cheers.

Fine. But what do Apollo and Google Music have in common? They are system apps. Try migrating your music player to the system partition using Titanium Backup. My guess is that user applications don't have the right to tap into DSP manager.

And it's a bad guess. It's not because they're system apps, heck you can install Google Play Music and Apollo both directly from the market without having them installed previously. It's a limitation that is caused by changes since Android 4.0.1. It would be pretty nice if it was that easy.
For what its worth, PowerAMP now supports DSP Manager, see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37836540&postcount=12

[Q] Google play music - Equalizer settings FX BOOSTER - What are they?

I was using the Google Play Edition for my Samsung Galaxy S4 (I9505), I flashed that ROM onto it, I used to use Google Play Music and use the equalizer settings there. Now I use the Cyanogenmod 4.4 Kitkat for my S4. The same equalizer for google play music is not there (it uses DSP manager or something).
I don't care about this but.. I had a really awesome equalizer preset there, I liked "FX Booster" I'm pretty sure that's what it's called. I need to recreate that same one with this equalizer so I would appreciate it if someone could post a screenshot of what FX Booster equalizer settings look like so I can copy them. I have looked almost everywhere, tried googling every type of thing and nothing helps.
If nobody can do that, can someone tell me how I can get the old equalizer back?
DSP Disable
As far as i am aware the FX Booster has 4 different qualities , 3d Effects , Clarity , Bass , not sure about the 4th. I am guessing this is more than a bunch of equalizer setting. DSP, AcId , Viper Audio are all custom sound mods that need to be de-activated if you do need to use the players equalizer.(You should be carefull removing the DSP , there might be side effects)

[Q] Music equalizer

When i install third party equalizer, and set it in settings, when i play music, and want to boost bass for example, sound is same, nothing changes??????

try another music player from playstore n turn off its equalizer or fx so it can use your dsp music fx ..... ex. best music player.apk
By mistake i uninstalled music fx in grand 2..how to get my music fx again?
if you are on stock or custom rom in both cases you have to reinstall the firmware or rom again. however, you can try copying the apk again to /system/app folder, but i guess it will not work.

Equalizers don't work and Audio Effects only works in Google Play

As the title says, I have downloaded several equalizers and none of them will work in any audio app I have tried (google play, slacker radio, etc.). When I tried to use the built-in audio effects app, it only works on Google Play and not Slacker Radio.
Are there any solutions to this issue? Does a custom ROM fix these issues?
Thanks.
Yes it is the issue. I have poweramp and it has its own equalizer which works only in poweramp. And if I change the effects in default equalizer, it won't affect poweramp settings.

Is this a device issue, ROM issue, an app issue or a Marshmallow issue?
No idea. Probably device issue.
I think BlackPlayer might have an option of letting you pick the EQ, at least when I used it consistently it asked if I wanted to use the system or app's EQ.

Will this allow the use of an equalizer within other audio apps like Slacker, Amazon Music, Pandora, etc.? If the EQ only works within that app it doesnt solve the problem. Thanks.

Improve Audio?

The one thing that I really dislike on the LG G6 (LG-LS993) is the audio. It has a "tinny" sound. Is anyone aware of any way to improve that? I'm thinking of software solutions. I know I can use my ear buds or my Blue-Tooth speaker system but there are times when that isn't practical; such as showing a video to someone else. Thanks.
Have you tried : jetAudio HD Music Player or VLC Player???
If all of your music is downloaded into your phone into the file system there is an app called Poweramp in the Play Store..... It is amazing it's three bucks but you can have a three-week trial I have found it has Soothed me from not being able to have viper audio being that we are stuck without root. The only downfall is this EQ and music player system is for everything in your library or file system but the tweaks are great and it's full of features..... I just returned my G6 for a v30 plus it works on both.
We may be in the same boat I want something that works with YouTube and Google play music

I lied I just got it working with Google Play Music there's a ton of settings in it and it's sounding amazing you should try it out it's a free trial I attached a picture of what it looks like that way you don't have to pay if you don't like it but my car has garbage speakers and it really helps my Bluetooth Loud areas
There are game settings in the menu you can hike up and then the 7-band EQ the first bar all the way to the left is actually pre app control not EQ lol!
If you try it out and have any questions hit me up but I think this app works great I'm going to try and get it going with you tube. And if you like Last FM there is special settings for that app by itself
If you're a fan of Google Play music only I found this version of Dolby Digital just download and install it but do not open the app reboot your phone and install Google Play Music if Google play music is already installed then after you go through the reboot open Google Play Music go to the menu settings hit refresh then scroll down for equalizer and the Dolby app will open right up.....quite a few settings in it

Thank you for your suggestions. I tried VLC Player and it sounded pretty good but it kept losing my music. The music was still there but I had to keep pointing to the location. Anyway, I'm trying out Rocket Player right now.

Thank you for all your wonderful suggestions. Prior to seeing your post I tried VLC Player and it sounded pretty good but it kept losing my music.
