im searching for a kitkat rom and kernel stable with good performance for gaming anyone knows?
Yes, we know... Now you can find it yourself...
Just set your governor to performance and you are good to go. If your devices not good enough it doesnt matter which kernel or rom you have
There's no such thing as "best rom / kernel for gaming", you can try some of them and then choose the one thats suits you.
ROM will be pretty much irrelevant unless it requires a stock kernel or doesn't work with custom kernels.
Kernel only matters if you want to try overclocking. Some can be overclocked, some can't. Test at your own risk. Pointless, IMO. The S4 Pro and 2GB RAM is good enough to handle even the most intense games just fine, with the 720p screen.

I've been trying different Roms lately, such as cm10.1, slim bean, liquid smooth. They were all fine except liquid smooth. But I was just wondering in general, is there a ROM that enhances or makes gaming better on?
No. Your question is silly, it's like asking. What is the best operating system for gaming? Is it windows 7? Mac? Or Linux?
... What you're asking for are kernels, not roms. And there is no best rom or kernel. Just look around and try for yourself

As zephix mentioned, you should be looking at kernels, not roms, to improve gaming performance. You would want to look into kernels that overclock the GPU by default, or give you the option to overclock it yourself. Compare the different kernels out there, matrix, faux, motley, harsh, etc and see which one benefits the GPU the most.
For example the Matrix kernel has a GPU overclocked version that boost the gpu up to 487mhz. This should help improve game performance but will also negatively affect battery life when gaming.
Trinity kernel, its the BOOM
Trinity kernel forces gpu over clocking all the time though, with no option to set it back.
You can try the RasBeanJelly ROM + Trinity kernel combo. RasBean has new bionic patches while Trinity bumps up GPU. I'm running that right now. There was a nice jump in my Antutu score (20,000+), but we all know benchmark numbers mean nothing.
Like zephiK and Raider said: it's up to you to try out a bunch of different ROMs/kernels and see which ones you like best. Since I'm answering, I say check out RasBeanJelly and Trinity.
Faux' kernel gives me quite good 3D performance.
franco r53 has quite bad 3D performance for me. r61 seems to be really good, but somehow uses more battery while gaming, at least for me.
Every ROM is okay, I play games with vsync off and 128mhz CPU and they run good. Dead trigger, most wanted, temple run 2, and riptide are smooth. Games that aren't tolerable are basically not optimized and most likely lag on every device it can run on. Long story short, every ROM is apt, the GPU is a beast and isn't necessary for things out now. And HD YouTube even works in this mode.

All roms have bionic. Rom won't do anything to your game. Kernel probably won't either. Games on the stock nexus 4 run great. If it weren't for washed out colors I'd say kernels are a waste of time. But anyone saying that stock android on the nexus 4 is slow or unfit for gaming is a liar. Just stop worrying about this performance bs, enjoy your nexus.
Are there currently any kernels that would work nicely with 5.0? I want to overclock a bit but don't think theres any kernels yet, just asking here as assurance I'm right or to be proved wrong.

Youre able to use any kernels such as funky, faux, etc. Basically any that dont come with their own ramdisk. Personally i use snuzzos funky kernel that if you care about benchmarks puts the grouper right on top with this years' flagship devices on antutu without any overclocking. Though if thats a need faux is stable enough with lolipop to overclock nicely
Edit: if you were to go with funky you should try out the CPU governor 'lulzactive' as that's by far better than any other I've tried, on my hardware at least.

Will do, I'm looking for something to make my N7 go from a car engine to a hyperdrive! & yes I love getting high benchmarks, sorta tricks me into believing my device is faster than it is lol. Might make me be totally oblivious to any lag haha xD. Anyways I'll give funky a shot with the lulzactive gov as I've already tried Faux before.
Is it at all possible to overclock my phone I've heard about it but not sure

Yeap, but you to have to flash either a custom rom and kernel, or just a stock based custom kernel.
For example you can flash CM 12.1 and use Renix63's kernel which features CPU overclock, custom governors & I/O schedulers etc. Search the S3 Threads, there's everything to answer any of your questions. If you need help by finding something specific, I can you list you the corresponding threads for unlocking/rooting and a rom&kernel to keep up with the latest progress.
I would not be too excited however, overclock is not really needed on our device, only if you need to run an heavy game
The phone gets pretty hot as it is so I wouldn't do it if I were you.
Excuse me fellas, but I have my phone overclocked without any issues. I'm getting a faster response and I haven't faced any high temp. So, before replying, have it tested, because it seems that you got the answers from the back of your head. He doesn't care if there are problems, you won't prevent him, or better, you dont have the privilege to do so.
Check my signature. @1497Mhz (I had it @1593 for a while), with a great enough battery life, better responsiveness and a cool phone.
Bit of a general question here, but I am getting some really wacky benchmark scores. They're all over the place and id like to know if any of you guys have found a rom and kernel that just works.
I've tried quite a few custom rom's now both Lollipop and Marshmallow, and they've all offered underwhelming performance (Not much faster than my old 801 soc device).
Albeit for the exception of resurrection remix, of which gave me phenomenal in game performance and AnTuTu scores within the 7700 range. A HUGE improvement over stock and other custom Rom's. Unfortunately Resurrection Remix 6.0 is by far the buggiest rom I've loaded, soft reboots everywhere, no working camera and artifacts.
Any recommendations for a good rom ? or should I be focusing on kernels with say stock Oxygen OS ?
I would say stay on OOS so that you can use all Sensors (FP and LF) and give Boeffla Kernel a try. Gives me amazing performance and pretty good benchmarks if i configure the Kernel to give me max performance (i dont do this often because a Benchmark score says nothing). With a balanced setting on the Kernel you get good Battery life and a good performance for daily use.
Use stock with Boeffla, guaranteed stability and from what others have posted with their tweaks seems best option. Everything else looks too experimental or unstable.
just use kernel auditor and use these settings; govenor-interactive, scheduler-row, readahead-1024, in virtual memory dirty ratio-30, dirty background radio-10, swappiness-10, Z-ram-250, under entrphy read-128, write-256. you will hit over 90,000 on antutu with stock rom. I've used these setting with stock with stock kernel, skydragon and oxyslim. i prefer stock now, i just uninstalled the apps i don't use plus oemkitlog, oneplus telephony, com.codeauroroa.img
But why should you even bother with Z-Ram when you have 4GB RAM in this phone?
Doesnt make any sense for me ...

It is totally pointless in a system with 4GB (even 3) RAM, wouldn't add performance since CPU now has to compress/decompress data on the fly - but what I'm wondering is: does Android have ZRAM by default or is this added? If it's added, lose it. If you were running an emulator this would be a hit.
Hello, i'm thinking of flashing a custom kernel to my MXP, but I don't really know which kernel should I choose cause I don't know which is better.
There are 2 kernels that which very popular around here are Squid and Ultra kernel.
I'm trying to flash a kernel which support for great gaming performance and extend the battery life a little bit, and giving less heat up my beloved phone. I've heard there's a kernel that can overclock past 1.6GHz, so I want to try (To be honest I've never overclock a modern generation phone's CPU before so I don't want to in over my head, plus I don't want to overclock it because I don't really want to because I've been out of the game for so long since I did it with my Sony X8).
I'm opening this thread hoping you guys (the Pros) can teach me, show me or recommend me about this.
Thank you
So as far as I know there are two kernels available for marshmallow. Squid's and Ultra. Squid was the first around here and has kept updating and improving. That is the one that you can overclock, as a matter of fact is overclocked as soon as you flash it. Most people use Kernel Adiutor to tweak it. Ultra kernel on the other hand expands on Squid's but it hasn't been updated in a while and some of the governors available on Ultra create crashes and bootloops. In reality the only way to go is stock (as in the one that comes with whatever ROM you flash) or squid's. Some people might disagree with me but I would suggest making your own opinion by reading through the threads. Most questions, issues and concerns are addressed within. Otherwise, good luck.
