Hi all. I just picked up my first windows phone and I love it so far. I have been an android guy since gingerbread and wanted a change of scenery. So at my local WalMart, I found a Lumia 521 for $49. I couldn't pass it up. However, I was wondering when the 8.1 update was coming out for it? I have T-mobile. Or should I just buy the 635?
Update: I got 8.1 through previews for developers. And Nokia got back to me on twitter. It's in its final testing stage

Uk release date for the HTC Maple/Snap/S510 is due to be 12/13th June - Not long!
I want one. How do I get an unlocked unbranded one?
If you head on over to HTC's website (www.htc.com) you will be able to see the where to buy link and it will give you a number of suppliers or alternatively you can do a google search for 'htc snap'.
All I saw was links to buy through AT&T and T-mo. Im looking for one thats unbranded. Ill start searching after the release date I guess.
Check out some of these links:

HTC Snap with Sprint Branding Appears on Best Buy Web Site
Today, 8:48 AM by Eric M. Zeman
The HTC Snap, first announced earlier this year, has appeared on Best Buy's web site with Sprint branding at a price tag of $520. The Snap that was announced in April 2009 was a quad-band GSM/EDGE version with dual-band 850/1900MHz 3G support. HTC has not officially announced a CDMA variant of the Snap. The Snap has a 2 megapixel camera with video capture, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, GPS, and Wi-Fi. The Snap also supports microSDHC cards. It runs Windows Mobile 6.1.

Got my snap! It really is brillinat, just setting it all up at the moment.
Tell us some more about it, or shoot a video or something !
Im not shooting video..can not be bothered.
So far i like the slim profile, and form factor, keyboard feels good and battery has lasted over a day and a half with a complete hammering on internet and constand download.
Bad bits, the back cover is a pain to get off, petty i know, but still (you need nails, I have none!). Tab key is in the wrong place, but quickly getting used to that.
Released!

Hi everyone.
Im about to take the plunge with my first android based phone. I have just returned the compact 5 / Diamond 2 to tmobile as I wasnt impressed with it. Ive had windows mobile before but just couldnt get on with it on the diamond 2 and the phone did not ring anywhere near loud enough unlike the hero that I have had a play with.
So phoned tmobile today to order the g2 / hero and tmobile tell me there will be a 3rd android phone as in the pulse. Also instead of using my upgrade, I could put my contract sim in the pulse and buy it outright for 174 pound.
Bar a larger screen, hardware looks identical. I am aware the hero is a high end device, but when you look at the specs of the pulse which is supposed to be a low to midrange handset, there only looks to be the camera resolution thats different.
Any news on the tmobile firmware update as yet please as well?
Any satnav software that comes with any recommendations, and hopefully free.
Your thoughts and advice please ???
Cheers
Paul
Get the G2/Hero.
The new firmware should be available for it in a few days. T-Mobile have set themselves a deadline of 28th September to have it avaialble. I know this from official posts on the UK T-Mobile official forum.
Free SatNav? You could try AndNav2 but it's still very much a work in progress. CoPilot Live 8 is reasonably priced and a good product.
For the holidays I want to get my wife a GSM WP7 phone, but I don't think the HD2 is the right choice for her. Don't get me wrong, I love using my HD2 running WP7, but she isn't as tech savvy as I am.
For the price, I think the HTC Mozart might be the best bet. Newegg is currently selling them for $279 with free shipping. The LG Optimus 7 is the only other WP7 phone with a cheaper price tag, but they don't seem to be built as well as the Mozart. Before I bought my HD2 I purchased 2 LG Optimus 7's and had to return them because the hardware buttons were very flimsy.
Seems like the HTC Mozart is the best WP7 phone for my wife.
What do you guys think?
good choice go with it. or wait till the Nokia Lumia 601 comes out.

Thats probably a better idea, if time permits that is, be a shame to get a device thats effectively being replaced in a few weeks
If you want a simple WP7(stable, fast, smooth, etc...), do not choose HD2 ^^
I went ahead and ordered the mozart. I wasn't sure if it was a good buy, but now I see that Newegg is out of stock after I presumably ordered the last one. I guess I got a pretty good deal.
I have to admit, even though I have been an HTC buyer (HTC Typhoon, HD2, now Radar).
I like what Nokia did with the 900 and now the 920 ( my next must have ).
In any case I want to get a Windows RT device and so far MS Surface stands as first pick, because if Nokia was going to launch they would have by now (but the rumors will not stop).
So if Nokia launched a Tablet that took design of the Lumia would you buy?

I voted 'not sure' because I'd very much need to see the price and specs before deciding. I'm looking for a Win8 Pro convertible to replace my laptop and iPad. I certainly LOVE my 900, and would like to get the 920, so if it was Nokia that put out the tablet I wanted I'd scoop it up just from my experience with them so far.
Hi,
I've been tempted by the Axon 7 for some time now having seen it in Beijing, and was excited to see it demoed in the ZTE Demo truck that went to our local shopping centre, presuming that it would be released imminently. Unfortunately, it hasn't appeared and since the mini version *has* appeared (Car Phone Warehouse), I presume it isn't going to be released at all.
So, I have been wondering what my options are. Is it plausible to buy one when I'm next in China and use it easily in the UK? I'm reasonably literate with phones and flashing/etc, so I could perhaps do that too, if it is an option. Does the Axon 7 in China have all the same hardware features as would be expected in the UK? I'm particularly thinking of things like NFC for Android Pay - NFC isn't used much at all in China, so it would be (almost) sensible for them to leave that off phones sold there, but it is something I would want. I would certainly want the Play Store and such like.
I have used a Chinese phone in the UK and successfully installed the Play Store on it (and it had an Intel CPU so it wasn't completely straight forward). It was also a ZTE phone (Geek v975) as it happens.
Any advice on what to do?
Max.
PS. My main reason for the Axon 7 is the front-facing speakers. However, other than not allowing *both* microsd *and* 2nd SIM, it is pretty much spot-on (note that HTC One X9 has a dedicated microsd slot and great front-facing speakers, but I can't find one that isn't locked to CMCC, and it doesn't seem to be so well thought of on this forum, though I see it does have a forum so I'll ask there too).
Axon 7 is a greate deal of hardware.
Of course you can use Chinese version on UK, but you have to flash Global rom and modem.
I myself own a Chinese version, but I flash US rom, because chinese rom is lack of play store and full of crappy app
Hi David
I did exactly what you are thinking about. I'm typing this reply from a 128gb Chinese zte axon 7. I bought from Ali express. When you but from china the seller will root the phone to enable Google play store. That's fine but it screws up obtaining the OTA updates. I can walk you through how to overcome this and get onto 7.1.1. No root nothing like that. My advice it's easy and you can save a packet getting a great phone.
Currently you can pick up an axon 7 for 270. Job done.
I'm running my 128gb Cuba version as well. I have 2 sims and an sd card running on it. There's a few threads on how to go about it. There's not much that needs doing apart from installing Google on the phone. Everything is simple. Just use the search function and you will get everything you want.
