Hey all
Here is a breakdown of the specifications of the Fire HD 6/7, who will take a smaller screen size for a higher pixel density?
More info on the chipset can be found here.
Feel free to discuss the overall specs or design here:good:

Bricked device
I got one of these Fire 6 devices for the missus and it will not power up past the splash screen. No mods of anything else was done to the device, still brand new. The wife used it a few times.
Amazon help pages not helpful
I'm pissed off to say the least.
I was disappointed when I first pulled it out of the package due to its bulkiness and wieght but it kinda grows on you after a bit. It does support otg. Root and the playstore would be a great addition.

Yeah, the design is not very good. Even the 1st gen Kindle Fire felt better in the hands. Still having fun with it anyway!

NVM I figured it out doing "adb reboot-bootloader". When in fastboot mode it shows a blank screen with no back-light so that's why I was confused. But still I do not know how to get into fastboot mode with a cable which is crucial for recovery

Kindle fire hd and fire hd the same thing ?
Dumb question, I have been going thru some of the threads. I sometimes see people refer to the kindle fire hd 6 and 7 and sometimes just fire hd 6 and 7.
Are these the same devices? If so it appears that root is close.

AFAIK Amazon removed the Kindle branding on their 2014 tablets hence
Fire = tablets
Kindle = ereader
ok, no root other communit
i posted a question in the google plus community and received this response :
A dumb question, is the fire hd6 the same as kindle firee (kfsowi)?
Sorry for newbiness...
No, it isn't. We provide support only for the KFSOWI model and nothing else.
So the amazon fire hd 6 and 7 is different than kindle. Their rooting process doesn't work for fire hd
Also, the fire hdx may be a different beast.

Kindle Fire/Kindle Fire HD/Kindle Fire HDX (2011 - 2013) = rootable
Fire HD/Fire HDX (2014) = not rootable atm
I think they are trying to get away from the Kindle branding. I think of kindle as a e-reader, not a tablet.

I must have missed where it stated in the video that it was a quad core tegra 3
" Acer has spilled the beans on its upcoming Iconia A200 tablet in a melancholic promotional video.
The new tablet was spotted a few weeks ago by some keen observers over at androidcommunity.com, but now we can finally see it in action.
What sets the Iconia A200 apart from most upcoming Android tablets is that it is a rather frugal device, clearly aimed at the value market. However, it still packs a 10-inch 1280x800 screen and Tegra 2 processor, so it’s hardly underpowered.
The Iconia A200 also features USB connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0 and microSD slot. There is no word on the launch date or pricing for that matter, but it should end up on the cheap side."
http://www.fudzilla.com/notebooks/item/25013-acer-leaks-iconia-a200-tablet
" Credited for posting the video on YouTube, a French blogging site called iLoveTablette.com (English translation) offered a few more specs on the A200.
Powered by an Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, the tablet will offer 1GB of RAM and sport a resolution of 1280x800 pixels. Weighing just 1.5 pounds, the A200 will be lighter than its A500 predecessor. And it will be offered in a choice of two colors: black titanium or metallic red."

Got hands-on with one. Missing docking port, rear camera, and HDMI out. Also, no fake SIM slot. Front camera is centered on a long side instead of an inch from the edge on a short side.
according to all the posts and forums and web videos etc.. the A200 is Tegra2 i.e. dual core. The biggest thing about the A200 is it will come with ICS more ore less out of the box. It will ship with 3.2.1 but an OTA update should be available by ship date.

I had this tab for 48 hours. I have the 500 and 100 so I figured I'll take this for a test drive. I have to say its the best feeling tab out. The back is like butter. Performance wise nothing different. Custom widget is actually good. Screen appears to be better then the 500. The reason why I didn't keep it was no HDMI which I use while traveling to watch Netflix in the hotel. Or at home I sometimes will hook my tab up to TV and use my Bluetooth keyboard and mouse for internet TV. Or if it had a dock port that would have been acceptable. give it 2 months this tab will be 250-275 all day.
Just a side note while returning this tab I was able to get a open Sammy 8.9 for 350. Never thought I would like it and its pretty good. Especially since the mic works (with BT head set too) now I can Skype.

Is it possible to run windows mobile or windows 8 on the kindle fire?
don't think so - cause of the processor
but a dev might know better ...
The more important question would be why would you want to?
Loo I know what you mean. My cousin actually bought a windows phone back when the HD2 was brand new. As a matter of fact I think it WAS the HD2 he bought.. well anyway he said he didn't like it so he ended installing Android onto the HD2. But just recently he bricked it so now he has the REZOUND.

I'm not a expert on Windows mobile or 8 but I don't think it will happen. Number one Windows is closed source so it would be hard to modify it to run on the Kindle Fire. And two unless Windows is released on a system that is close to the Kindle Fire then there probably is very limited selection of drivers.

Something tells me it will be possible, especially if there are any OMAP4 tablets at all, drivers should be similar.
Whether anybody actually goes through the trouble of getting it done and usable is another story altogether. I wonder what the performance would be like...
I totally understand that Win 8 is gonna be pretty much impossible to run on the KF, but would it really be that difficult to have the windows mobile OS on there? I feel like the kindle should have more than enough power to run it. Then again I'm still a young budding dev so you all tell me
So as many of you might know the nexus 7 is now available for pre-order. I just ordered mine. Since it's a Nexus device all future firmware updates will be straight from Google and in a timely manner. There will also be a ton of dev support being a nexus device there will be a lot of amazing devs working on root, recoveries and such things. So again I ask, who plans on getting one?

You do realize that a 10.1" screen is going to be more expensive right? Not sure what you mean by an actual tablet when the only difference if going to be the screen size. I like the size I don't want something too big or too expensive. You could sell your nook and afford the nexus now lol. To each their own.
I'm running ICS on the 7 inch kindle fire and the size on that is what's stopped me from getting the nexus 7... tho jellybean is really tempting...

Yeah I'm well aware of the screen size lol. My father has a Kindle Fire (told me not to root it the first time I saw it) and the size is fine with me. But yeah the quad core with android 4.1 for $200 is what sold me.
I had the HTC flyer for about a week before returning seeing as I used the money on a tv and Google tv but I live 7.1 screen size. For me its not too big and not too small, granted I'm not the biggest guy around lol. It fits comfortably in two hands without having to really stretch out your fingers to type. Personal opinion in the whole 7.1 vs 10.1 inch

It all comes down to personal preference. If they came out with a 10 inch one, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Currently thinking about getting the Transformer Pad Infinity... but man does technology move too fast... i hate getting something and finding out 2 days later that a newer faster one is out in a couple months for the same price haha
Im sure the nexus 7 is gonna be a beast though. Quad core + project butter... dammit google give me a 10 inch nexus!

rege420,
I must say, you gave us the challenge of a lifetime, We tried it today and it is not possible. The main package that needs to be modified is the framework-res-apk which can be found in /system/app, this file is owned by Root and has the Rights of Read Only when you are not at Root. Once you drop to Root, there is a hack that makes the lower and upper bars Transparent but is is a serious hack and requires knowledge on repacking and signing apk's, so for this reason we do not post a How To on this hack.
I will keep it in the back of our minds if we come up with a viable solution, we will get back to you rege420.
It's a shame, I installed Swift Tablet Keyboard & liked the look of it over stock but it was pretty annoying to have half the last section of keys cut off by the side bar, worked fine in portrait though.

This is why we love to Root the Kindle. Given time, we will make the Keyboard work, we just need more time to come up with a script that safely tackles the Framework. We'll get-er done over time.
That's good to hear I love my kindle but I hate the restrictions amazon put on it. For 400$ I should be able to do whatever I want on it

rege420,
Yes, I completely agree. I have never quite understood Amazon's marketing, it just does not make sense. In the end they loose, not us, since we the developers will always find a way around locked down devices. Sony is an excelent idea of a company who embraced the open source market and for this reason, the are very well respected in the development community. If Amazon would open the door a bit, they would inevitably sell more devices.
Yea why sell such a great piece of hardware and then lock it up like fort Knox. Its probably the best made tablet out at the moment and you can't do anything with it. I don't get their angle

rege420,
You and I totally agree on this point. The Kindle Fire series of Tablets are a beautiful piece of hardware. They are packed with solid features and they have a fine Motherboard from TI.
Lenovo Tab 4 Plus
http://www.gsmarena.com/lenovo_tab_4_8_plus-8603.php
It's slightly bigger than the Nexus 7, but not so much by comparison, as you can see here from a side by side:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/vYDGB1BfzbWjhO9t2
Better specs, clean Android, beautiful screen and very, very well made hardware, with the additional Plus of having an SD-card slot. By now I am on my 4th Nexus 7, which I mainly use use for eBook reading and some casual gaming, but the problems with the USB slot and the easily defective memory are a nuisance and I have been on the market for an alternative for more than 3 years. The Tab 4 for me is that alternative.
I've had it for a couple of days now and while it is not wildly popular (yet), there is already TWRP available AND root through Magisk.
Finally a decent tablet with USB-C, nice hardware, very good screen time (basically sames as the Nexus 7) and an up to date Android version without significant bloatware (Except for Microsoft Office, which you can uninstall easily, since it's not a system app).
I hope to see a thriving community around this tablet; it's worth it and will please those who have been happy with their Nexus 7, but are looking for a more modern piece of hardware as a successor.
Lucky me I am still on the first one from day one ?
Just have to charge wireless since 6 month. Bud there is no factory Image coming so as long as custums are coming I am good to go. But the Lenovo looks promising

I think 2gb is enough for games
AGREED!!!
When i first saw this, i thought, this is the only upgrade to my 4 year old nexus 7....but sadly lenovo did not launch the 4/64 version in India....i don't know what to buy now..iPad looks like the only choice
I'd suggest the Huawei T2 7.0 Pro. I have both it and the Nexus 7. The Huawei is lighter, smaller, better battery, slightly better CPU/GPU, Micro SD slot, fingerprint sensor.
Oh and it can take a micro sim and be used as a cell phone.
The only negatives:
Only works on 2.4ghz wifi
Android 5.01 only currently
No NFC
No wireless charging
Otherwise it is a worthy successor. There are tons of 8" tablets available but for sheer portability (and why the nexus 7 was so popular in the first place), the T2 is a viable option.
Huawei also had the Media Pad X2 7.0 which has far superior hardware but I have been unable to find one to purchase anywhere.
I also used the Nexus 7 primarily as an E-Reader (I have had it with junk E-Ink devices, kobo and kindle are garbage)
but my Nexus 7 has a stuck reboot loop issue if it powers down.

Not only that, it's also got Micro-USB, not USB-C. Deal breaker.
Same goes for the Huawei, Micro USB.
The Lenovo is also availble in an LTE version. I don't need that, got a nice phone with an international contract as hotspot, so no more additional contracts for me, WiFi does the job for me.
The Lenovo does look like a solid device. For me the size though is a no go. Plus I have not seen it for sale anywhere in Canada. No clue what the supposed release date is.
What about superfish?
What tablets run stock Android or very close to? I want a tablet that will get new major Android releases.

Pretty much only the Nexus 7 is stock.
That doesn't seem to matter though. Google discontinued updates on the Nexus 7 after Android 6.0.1.
Agree, and I see no sign of them releasing a new tablet anytime soon.

Ya, I gave up waiting. Hence the Huawei that I have been using.
I just pulled mine out of the closet to check for updates and can't believe it still has a better screen then these Xiaomi phones I keep buying.

As bad as it's going to sound. I'm glad Apple is finally in the wireless charging game. Ya know they're likely to drop an iPad with it soon, and this may inspire the creation of other wireless charging tablets. It's really the only thing holding me back from replacing the Nexus 7 2013.
Mi max 2 ... Snapdragon...big battery..usb-c....not expensive
Minecraft story mode 2 is playable
