On my Note 3 I simple ran Towel Root, than SuperUser and CM security.
With 4.4.4 out, why on the S5 are you guys loading different Kernels or doing additional steps? Need to know before I make the change.
Thanks.
Because update NE9 patched the towel root exploit and caused us to lose root once updated tbrough OTA's. The great devs here figured out a work around to that so we could keep root. Follow the devs instructions on how to update to the newest firmwares an to also gain root.

Hi, I am new to rooting the android. I tried looking around but couldn't find a clear guide.
I am looking on how to update my verizon Galaxy Note 3 that's on version 4.3 MJ7 (Hyperdrive RLS4 rom, model N900V) while preserving the root. Or would I have to loose root for a while and then re-root? Ultimately I am looking to install the newest Hyperdrive rom, but I believe I would have to update the stock firmware first?
Would be great to get some tips on how to do this. Thanks!

Getting my note 3 from o2 UK tomorrow, 1st thing i want to do is root! Is it the same procedure as my s4 or is it completely
different, can lollipop be rooted yet? or do i have to root kitkat 1st? What is the easiest way to root/flash custom recovery?
The only other thing is i dont know what version of the note 3 i am getting yet, upgraded online, i am assuming its the N9000
cheers
So, you have plenty of time till tomorrow to do some Google searching. There are thousands of how to's on the Web.

If your phone comes with an unlocked bootloader then rooting is easy, as easy as S4, and same procedure. For Lollipop, just flash the latest TWRP (2.8.5.0) and flash the latest SuperSU zip from the recovery and you are done. No, there's no need to root KitKat first to be able to root Lollipop.
It is the same process rooting L & KK.
Hi.
Question, is there a way to root 5.0 (stock) without tripping knox?
Tried to search\google it, nothing came up.
It's very important to me not to set off knox I still have warranty.
please help :fingers-crossed:
Device model SM-G900F
Nope not really
There was some info about downgrading to KK and rooting with towelroot, then using Mobile ODIN Pro to inject root into a stock Lollipop ROM and upgrade that way, never got that working myself though
No way to directly root stock Android 5 on the Galaxy s5 without tripping knox. However, you can downgrade to a stock 4.4. ROM and then use Towelroot. Afterwards you flash Alexandr's prerooted Lollipop ROM. There are guides everywhere, you could use this one for example https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys5/comments/2ubsbs/guide_rooted_android_50_for_the_international/

Can I just downgrade to 4.4, root it and leave it like that without upgrade it back to 5.0?
Yes, you can. No one is forcing you to use Lollipop. I find this thread very useful: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-root-triggering-knox-2nd-method-t2843044
If you just want to use towelroot on 4.4. follow the root instructions and do not flash the Lollipop firmware afterwards.
Now that the OE1 tar is available, is it possible to root my S5 which is on the OE1 update currently?
Has anyone attempted to Root with KingRoot? Many devices are having luck with it on recent 5.0 releases: http://androidxda.com/download-kingroot-application
It said it isn't possible for king root.
Tried and it doesn't work.
Btw i hate this new comment thingy...
Just got a replacement S5 and tried rooting before doing anything else... This thing already has OE1 on it with lollipop 5.0.
Please tell me this turd isn't getting the hammer because I'm locked out...
Is there a root method for OE1?
Looked thru the other threads, and didnt see anything that pertained directly perhaps someone can point me in the right direction.
Have my stock S5 from verizon, on 4.4.4 NK2 firmware. Looking to update to whatever is the most current stock firmware with root. I'm coming to this from years of rooting Sprint devices, this is my first Verizon and I've been putting it off forever. Been getting the nag screen everyday now for a software update and I figured it was the time to update this and get myself root.
Thanks in advance for any help in where to look. Please forgive me in advance if this is a duplicate, I searched...I really did, but since its all new to me I wanted to ask.
Looks like the process is to flash 4.4.2, root, check if bootloader can be unlocked, and then proceed 2 different ways if it can be dev bootloader unlocked. If it can, unlock bootloader, flash twrp, and then flash whatever rom you want. If you can't unlock the bootloader, folow the guides to upgrade keeping root with safestrap and use roms that are TW for locked bootloaders. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I just got a 4.4.4 g900v myself in a trade and I'm figuring out how to proceed as well.
Ok, slight difference. You can root & check the bootloader from 4.4.4...
