[Q] "New GApps package found" notification - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Yesterday I installed an AOSB ROM on my GS5 along with the most recent version of GApps. However, a notification keeps popping up that says "New GApps package found. pa_gapps_2.0.0_standard.zip" and when I open the AOSB OTA to update it, my phone freezes and the screen goes black. I've tried to update it twice with the same results. Is there some way I can disable this notification or should I try reinstalling GApps from the recovery screen?

You can try reinstalling the gapps from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942 if that fails you can disable notifications in settings.

flashed another version working fine
you installed the wrong GApps.Your phone firmware is 4.3, but you installed the GApps 4.4.2.You should install the corresponding Google service pack.

lineage os 15 development is currently in alpha stage, you have to wait until the stable release

Ok I'll wait till stable update,
I'm having issues with the fingerprint sensor. It is showing some error 'Enrollment was not completed' when I run the fingerprint sensor in Lineage 15. And then the wizard exit. It is showing the same thing again and again. Also it tells me to locate my sensor on the back of the phone while it is in the front. Anyone, some help?

LOS15 is an alpha. Read the thread. You'll find that those are the current issues with the most recent publicly available build. Solution — wait for new build.

“Google keeps stopping” after Android Oreo update

I got a Nexus 6P and it received the Oreo update yesterday. After installing the update, there were few errors like "Gboard stopped working" etc., That happened only once and the device was working normally for few hours. Now suddenly, I keep getting "Google keeps stopping" in the launcher screen. When I close the popup, the launcher is reloaded and the popup appears again immediately. Phone is currently kind of unusable. Tried to open Settings, but that got closed as well.
Tried checking Play Store for the latest updates, but got none. Anyone else got this issue? Any idea if this can be resolved?

Try wiping the cache partition from stock recovery. If you have TWRP (doesn't sound like it) wipe dalvik cache as well.

In the stock recovery, I see only these options:
Reboot bootloader - Restarts this recovery
Recovery mode - Boots up and then shows "No Command"
Power off
Barcodes - Shows barcodes of various things about the device.
Start - Starts the device normally, issue still exists
I don't see any option for wiping the cache partition.
I don't have TWRP installed, but will do if that is my last option.
Just figured out how to clear the cache partition from recovery mode. Just tried clearing the cache partition. But the issue still persists.

It's kind of a long shot but you can go into settings>>apps and force close and wipe data from both Google App and Google Now Launcher, then restart the phone. If you are still seeing the error regularly then you download the full OTA (.019) and sideload it from recovery mode. You will not lose your data this way. If that sounds too daunting, you can also do a factory reset from recovery which will wipe your userdata, so be sure and back up your stuff before the factory reset.

I can't do that, since I am not able to open Settings -> Apps. It gets closed as "Settings has stopped working"

Just did a factory reset. I didn't get the error for an hour. After setting up all my apps for half a day, the error came back. It is unfortunate that even stock Android has issues with Google's official app.

The problem is on your end. You will need to properly wipe your phone and reinstall Android. I would suggest you just go ahead and unlock your bootloader now, because unlocking at any point in the future will wipe the phone. After that is done, re-install Android 8.0. There are many tutorials on how to do this. It will not void any warranty you may have. It will give you more tools to work with in the future. Good luck.

Try Nova launcher. It's working great. Best luck.
There is some critical error for the new android Oreo (for me is nexus 6p) which make a system crash on the desktop (google now launcher) and on settings (you can't open app list). It is can be created by any of your applications which you need to find. So only way to remove the app, in this case, it is to use a google play application or maybe some other launchers. For me, it was "6 Minute English". I find it via installing nova launcher and on the common app list, the application was shown without a logo, with green robot image instead.
Google keeps syopping after OREO update
I had the same problem with my Samsun Galaxy J7 after the update. I just unstalled the google from the apps. It went back to the previous version. Now the problem is solved

Unable to change permission rr 6.0

I have clean flashed resurrection remix 6.0 (8.1.0) with stock Gapps on my OnePlus 2
Everytime i go to the apps menu in settings and the app permission menu it says package installer has stopped
I have tried wiping cache/dalvik
I have tried clean flashing with pico Gapps still it didnt work so back with stock
P.s. i have no problem in installing from play or from an unknown source and have no problem in providing new permission to the apps but i cant change them once selected
Unable to attach images using apps and cant post link before 10 posts
I have exactly the same problem.
Nexus 6p on RR6.0 (Oreo 8.1).
Can install apps. But cannot access permissions.
Getting this error message "package installer keeps stopping".
I have tried to clear package installer cache, even clear its data. But the same problem keeps cropping up.
This post has no solution to it. Just an affirmative to whatever you are facing. I wish somebody could help.
Experts, please tell us what information you need. and how to get it for you. I would be very pleased if I could get to the bottom of this frustrating problem. Thank you!
I just had same issue with my Mi Max running RR 6.0.
It started after changing the theme to dark in settings-display option.
I reflashed and things were ok.
As soon as I change theme to dark it started again.
I reverted back to automatic theme then everything is alright.
So i guess issue is with RR source.
My wife's Pixel with RR 6 just had the same issue. Setting the theme to automatic fixed the issue. Makes me wonder if the dark theme setting during night hours would make the issue appear only at night...
Edit: Posted a bit too soon. Set her clock to 10pm, watched the theme change, attempted to edit permissions... Package Installer stopped.
