Can't connct to camera. I beg of your help. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hello and thank you for taking the time.
I recently gotten this message popping up everytime I try to use the camera on my S4.
"Can't connect to camera". I'm not sure why this is happening, so I thought maybe perhaps it had to do with the camera itself
so I went ahead and got the camera part replaced and got a new camera and it still shows this :'( I spent a lot of money getting this new camera part and I still get this message.
Can some one please help me? I sincerely ask because I am losing hope.
I am currently running a PAC-MAN ROM
Thank you again!

I'd recommend Odin back to stock. If the camera works then you know it was a software issue with your ROM. If not, then you most likely have a hardware issue.
Or if you you think that is too extreme, just try reinstalling your ROM first.

Thank you so much for replying. I am sincerely grateful.
The front camera works just fine. Its the rear camera.
I have wiped and installed my ROM into the phone hoping that'll work but nothing. I also tried another ROM still nothing.
What you have suggest though about using ODIN to go back to stock ROM I shall try
Is there anything specific I need to do to go back to stock ROM for the s4? I have i337m and don't have the original ROM.
It's been 4months since I last did all this so I'm a bit in need of refreshing.
Thank you again friend

You'll need the odin tar file specific to your i337m phone. Unfortunately, I'm on i337 so I'm not sure which one you need.
I guess start with determining what base you are on. Should help you find it easier. This link will help with that..

So I have done everything and found out it is a hardware issue :/ Does this mean it is not fixable?

Sounds like a hardware issue then. (Had it been a driver issue, the stock samsung firmware that you installed on it would have solved that issue)
You mentioned you just got a new camera. Did the camera work after it was installed? If you took it to a store, maybe it's still under warranty and you can take it back. If you replaced it yourself, maybe the something came loose. Try taking it apart and making sure it's still connected. If it was an after market camera, maybe you need different drivers?

Do you know where I can get the drivers for the camera on the s4 i337? I double checked everything after taking it apart and yet nothing. If it's an actual hardware issue I guess I can't do anything about it :'(. Actually my warranty is voided due to rooting. Thank you very very much for trying though

The Samsung camera drivers would be built in to the stock image. I just threw in the driver suggestion in case you replaced the camera with another brand.
I wouldn't worry too much about your warranty being void due to rooting. It's one thing if you bricked your phone because you were trying to flash something you shouldn't have and then try to get it replaced under warranty... That's wrong.
By Odin back to stock you put the phone back into the state it was when you first received it. If the camera is still not working, I would try to get it fixed under warranty. (unless of course it broke from a fall or a swim... then you'd be out of luck)

I'm offering an alternative to those who are unable to get warranties or relunctant to wait for a new but probably another unreliable phone set.
You may ignore this if you are confident to get a new phone without extra cost.
Seen as there is meant to be an official update coming from HTC sometime in the near future I'm going to hang around for that, if one fails to materialise then I'll start using one of the custom ROMs.
Having said that, everything currently works on my Hero. And so it should, it's only 5 days old.

If you can reproduce the fault by going back to the stock state (and hopefully get the LED/Headjack faults again) you have proved that there is a software bug in the phone.
i never had any doubt it is a software thing when a simple app, Toggle Headset, bypasses the 3.5mm jack problem, and that problem is always present and simultaneous with the LED problem :/
you don't fix motherboard problems with a widget, so it obviously isn't a motherboard problem :/

If the problem is reproducable by flashing the Hero back to the original ROM and waiting a couple of days får the problem to reappear it's 100% confimed. But so far this thread is my best hope that HTC really knows of the problem since [email protected] apperantly "fixed" it...

Problems? I've installed 4 different versions and 3 radios now, no issues at all! Its usually people who don't follow instructions who have the issues.
Official is available on MoDaCo's website, you can try that.
As for warranty, make a nandroid backup and you can go back to stock and re-do recovery partition easily.
Comfirmed. Updating to latest Version fixed the issue. I just restored a old nandroid backup and problem is gone... Weird, as i was expecting it to be there..will now flash back to latest version... still unsure if i should go about getting my phone replaced...
I sent my hero back to HTC who MAKE the phone and they replaced the mainboard

THIS IS JUST A THEORY!!! I REPEAT THAT IT'S JUST A THEORY!!!
I have a friend who has a theory why a hardreset doesn't fix it:
It's because HTC shipped the phones with a factory configured image wich might have differed from the ROM mage flashed to to phone in the first place. When all of us had to do our first hard reset the ORIGINAL ROM image replaced the factory configured image which apperantly contained software to poll the headphone jack to see if the user put a jack in there. That software DIDN'T exist in the flashed ROM image.
THE ABOVE IS JUST A THEORY!!!

SO why did it work at first and what has the LEDS go to do with it? i reset my phone twice and it all worked fine it was a week or so later that it went wrong if it worked why did it stop?
dont worry about invalidating ur warranty, just make sure you do a nandroid backup before you flash , any issues or need to go bak to stockrom just do a restore!!

If you make a nandroid backup your warranty will not be invalidated once you restore it. Get Your facts right.
Flashed almost every version of MODACO and no problems whatsoever.
What is the problem with the 3.5mm jack?

Video added: camera flash sync problem! frustrated

i recently received a new nexus one because of dust under the screen. today i noticed my camera flash is not working properly.
everytime i take a picture with the flash enabled the flash fires once (for exposure metering i assume) but the second flash never comes. so the images are flashless and super dark.
i tried "factory resetting" and the roblem continues. anyone else have this problem. seems like a software issue? any ideas on how to fix this?
im on stock ere27 2.1 update-1. ALSO this problem effects aftermarket apps as well because its part of the firmware.
Update: recorded a short video to demonstrate my problem.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVKlSe0UiDY
Called HTC, they had no idea what they where talking about. Transfered me to Google support. They had no idea what was causing this problem and suggested a "swap"
... this phone is a SWAP... its 2 days old.
I'm getting sick of this.
Is there anywhere to download the full stock ROM that is flashable without root? I tried the "manual update" patch from 2.1 to 2.1 Update-1 but that didnt fix it either.
Maybe my firmware has a glitch that is causing this flash problem. Anyone know where I could find the full flashable ROM?
Recorded a short video to further explain whats happening.

It's definately a odd problem, I haven't seen this myself, but if you have already reset your phone to stock and have done the updates and are still experiencing problems. Sadly, your best bet is to have Google warrenty your phone. Don't root to see if its going to fix the problem, you'll be in a much deeper hole if it doesn't fix your problem.
TL;DR
Let Google replace your phone.
Is there a way to re-flash the stock firmware from a ZIP without having the bootloader unlocked?

You might want to take a look here.
It has a complete list of all the stock roms and images. (With download links.)
You need to warranty your phone. Don't waste your time trying come up with a solution. I'm sure it's a hassle, but it will be worth it in the long run.

Just trying to come up with an easy alternative since this is kind of a minor issue?
Also this phone is my second nexus one, First one had tons of dust under the screen. This one is real clean so I was hoping I could hang onto it!
why did the picture without any flash at all have a brighter resolution than the one with the flash on?
EDIT - Have you tried one of the other free camera apps from the market? It might be an error or problem with the stock Camera.apk

As stated, this is the problem. The first flash is for "exposure" the second flash is for the actual picture. So the camera is exposing thinking there is a flash coming from the camera. But there is no flash happening during the picture, only before hand.
And yes this is a firmware problem. so any app that uses the camera has the same problem with the flash. I've tried a bunch.
Does anyone know the actual hardware innards of the nexus? If this is just some kind software glitch I may just unlock my bootloarder and fire up CM. Maybe that'll fix it?
I'd hate to return another one... this ones screen is perrrfect.

Soft button always on, also when the phone is off

Hi guys... i have a serious problem. Soft touch button is always on, although the phone is off. I supposed that was a problem of cm9 kernel. But now I have flashed cm7.2 with cm7 kernel but the problem persists ... the level of the button light was very low... but they are on...
Sent from my MB525 using XDA
I need some help
Give a try to CM7.1 that is stable... if it doesn't have this bug you may be certain that is a rom related problem... in last case this can be edited in build.props... i believe that you could disable from there, besides i don't think that is a good solution...
I have this problem with some build/nightly someday, but could not remember what one... changing rom solved...
Thank you so much. But the strange thing us that now I have flashed the froyo Nordic sbf. And the problem persist. The problem is that I have to pull out the battery everytime I shut down the phone. However I will try cm 7.1.... thanks
Sent from my MB525 using XDA
hum... them it was two diferent problems.... i believe that flashing nordic that is a stock sbf should solve both problems... but if they persist then this are beyond my simple knowledges...
good luck indeed!
Always on means always responds to presses or just the light is always on?
On... minimum level but on.....

Its really weird try flashing some other sbf for your phone and see else it might be a hardware issue.
I have exactly the same problem for months. I can't remember what caused it but it has remained so even after flashing back to official rom.
I consulted a local customer service center and they said this was a hardware issue. The motherboard has to be replaced to solve it.
Ok thank you,,, as i expect is an hardware issue,,, so i have to send away my defy to replace motherbord,,, wow, i'm very happy-.-

Just wanted to say that I got the same problem on Defy+ since rooting
(DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-231_CEE_ROOTED_No_Signed) and installing Epsis CM9.
Don´t see why this should be hardware-related.
Update: fixed after different cm9 flash and cache clean

I though it was hardware related as even if I turn it off, remove the battery, when I just put it in the soft buttons glow but as I didn't notice how it was before the first flash I can't tell for sure but after reading this I still have a hope.
I am having this problem with my Defy. Currently I have CyanogenMod v9-20121116-Nightly-jordan and I am still suffering the problem although I have tried several flashs. Could you please explain how did you solve it?
Thank you very much!!

Have you considered if it's a hardware issue? Intermittent issues can be hardware. It might explain why no matter the ROM you have this common audio cutout problem. I just had my phone warranty serviced because whenever I would record audio or audio and video upon playback I would get these weird audio artifacts like popping and static sounds. The tech told me they resoldered the audio pins to try and correct the problem. It is now fixed btw. (The same repair had them replace the proximity sensor too but it seems to me they actually replaced the entire main board b/c my board serial number is different. To my understanding the proximity sensor is a module and the audio chip is soldered onto the main board.) Would warranty service be an option for you? If not, there is a good tear down guide on iFixit.com and others on Youtube.
As for making a flashable zip I found this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207467

Just rooted S8.. Selective Focus in Camera not working anymore

Hi guys,
Just rooted my S8 and installed TWRP, using STOCK Samsung ROM, AQH3. I noticed in the Camera that "Selective Focus" is not working anymore. I didn't change anything else, just rooted the device and installed Notorious Kernel, before doing this the Selective Focus was working OK. So does anyone know what happened? Any help would be highly appreciated, I really like this shooting mode. Thank you!
EDIT: To clarify: before this I got sometimes the error, but mostly of the time it worked well. Now after rooting the phone and installing TWRP it doesn't work at all in any conditions, even with different subjects.. I've heard someone reporting this issue in another thread, but I can't remember at all
Root these days is nothing but problems.
Well ok.. But I really can't figure out how root could broke a single, specific, functionality of the Camera
