For using towelroot, flash any version of 4.4.2 lower than the XXUGNG8 which does not have KNOX 2.0
Then towelroot

Haha yes buddy..INDEED!
But ONLY ORIGINAL SAMSUNG STOCK FIRMWARES and custom RECOVERIES.
If you need to flash any custom roms, flash via custom recovery. Not all custom roms are odin compatable.

Hello.
Thankfully before some months i bought my S4 and I rooted to Omega rom with your help.
Now I am sick of it and I want to sell the mobile.
How will I restore to completely default system so the warranty from Samsung is back?

Just flash a stock rom and youre unrooted

Knox 2.0 is not in 4.4.2 it is an update that rolled out a few weeks ago.
Not sure if once in 2.0 it can be downgraded by flashing a previous 4.4.2 rom.
It has many new updates like the pattern lock and simplified method of transfer of data from our phone to the knox containers.
It looks like this now

I've only updated to 4.4.2, never updated or run knox-i have the app disabled-but it's listed as being 2.0.0 in Manage Apps, with no updates to uninstall as I've not updated it., yet it's still already 2.0.

Well i call it knox 2.0 because when i had a 100mb upgrade, it stated that your phone is going to upgrade to 2.0 with a kids mode functionality.
Rest even I have never noticed the version no. Just many UI changes from knox 1.0 to 2.0.
Plus Even samsung calls it 2.0. It was stated on the samsung's website that it knew about towel root exploiting the linux kernel and it shall resolve this in an update.
Rest idk what that update was. I clearly remember samsung calling it knox 2.0 upgrade update.

Well yes. I am already on 4.4.2. Received the uodate 2 days back.
PURELY KNOX 2.0 update.
Well many people, including my sister did that upgrade and towelroot stopped rooting. And many are complaining now that towelroot has stopped working.
That is why I blame the update.
I cannot use towelroot altogether as it does not work on i9500.

ok, so:
upgrade to 4.4.2 with Odin will update it without tripping KNOX, just no to upgrade KNOX to 2.0 when receive this update, and the towelroot will work.
If necessary, for warranty reasons, re-install 4.4.2 with Odin will unroot it and have stock ROM as brand new.
Correct?

What exactly do you want mate?
If you flash the official firmware agaim you'll be able to upgrade your phone via kies or get OTA updates.
If you install a custom rom, you wont be able to get anything and in addition burn the knox efuse.
Plus we, at XDA wont recommend you one. You have to search for yourself which rom fits your requirements the best. Each rom has something unique.
Check the developers thread, read about the bugs and fixes and then we think you are wise enough to decide on your own

Does towelroot set the device software flash to custom preventing future otas?
Hi everyone. I just bought my SGS4 today (i9505) and I want to know how to proceed before messing around. I searched a lot on the forums and on the internet but I can't figure out what to do.
I'm currently on 4.2.2 and I'd like to flash a custom rom without voiding the knox counter. How should I do?
Thanks in advance

Sry I've read you are on Version 4.4.2. My mistake.
So you currently run Android 4.2.2. Do you have the Knox bootloader already? It is inverted to all firmware builds MGG or higher.
When you don't have the Knox bootloader you can flash everything you want to and you are still able to reset the counter with triangle away.
When you are on the new Knox bootloader i would recommend you to upgrade to the latest Android version and then use the link I posted.
