Howdy,
I'm only able to get Latitude working when GPS is on, it doesn't seem to want to auto update using tower triangulation.
I think I saw something on Google about there being some issues with the 6800, has anyone gotten this to work?
My gps works perfectly. Did you try using gpsviwer or htc gps tool? Please list your exact setup for any help on troubleshooting
Sorry, i might have been a bit unclear: latitude works fine when I am using GPS... but the thing is I can't keep GPS on 24/7. I was wondering if people had success with getting latitude to auto-update with an approximate location based on tower triangulation like all the other phones seem to do
Why can't you use gps 24/7? I don't think the Titans have the triangulation ability. My gps is on 24/7.
my battery is dead in 2 hours if GPS is on, plus it doesnt work indoors
My location is set to on all the time. My phone dies after days not hours. I think you have other problems.

my location is always set to on, and i have the googlemaps process running in the background but if i get out of the googlemaps even though it asks me if i want to keep my location on it will not update my location unless im inside of googlemaps.

if i go into googlemaps it will update my location, when i exit it will ask to keep my location on which i choose yes. Googlemaps closes but the process is still running in the background yet it will not update my location until i open googlemaps back up. Shouldnt it be always updating my location then?
I don't know about that one. But my guess is no. But why would you want it to update your location when you aren't using the program.

googlemaps has latitude in it, latitude is used to show your friends where you are, thats why i want it to always update it, it even asks me to keep displaying my location so then it should be always updating it but it doesnt.
Its not a problem for me i just thought it was a pretty cool program but if i always have to be in it to update my location then whats the point besides to see where your friends are but if it doesnt update it for them then who really knows where anyone is.
Ok well I bet the program is updating you location automatically. Are you putting you phone in sleep mode, because this breaks gps locks. You can't let your phone go to sleep if you want your gps to update.
If I read it right when you exit it asks if you want to keep the location stored on googles server, which means it's not updating, but if someone checks where you are at it will show the last place you were at.
I believe this means if you answer no that it removes your location from the map so it doesn't show you anywhere, tho this is just a guess as I only got the software lastnight.

I have the same problem on my Desire, and I found this from google;
"This is the intended behavior, however, there is a known issue where background location updates stop periodically on the Android devices, especially if you are using many other apps simultaneously. We're in the process of working on releasing a fix for this issue so thank you for your patience. In the meantime, you may need to occasionally tap My Location from the Maps menu to restart background updates."

Hello.
I was thinking about making an app which would open gps settings at *#3124789650#
Basically, this app would run and terminate settings in 2 seconds. Oh yes, it would autorun every time gps logs activity. Gps starts running, apps starts and terminates, gps locks.
So, I'm looking for someone capable of doing it as I lack experience in programming for android.
Thanks,

Wifi used to turn off under standby on Windows Phone 7, which was the most stupidest feature in the whole OS I don't care what anyone says. Can anyone confirm if this is still present in WP8?
Since nobody got their hands on a device that's not even out yet, we can't answer that.
How can anyone confirm such a statement when the os isn't even out yet? (and some features may be still on the work, since the sdk isn't the final version yet?)

There is/are an app(s) for that!
Even if it is still present in WP8, you can always have an app to help you add this feature (like other OS always does!)
Hi,
It would be really great if you could let me know the name of any of the apps which helps in keeping the wifi on all the time.
I am not having a rooted handset so I cannot change the registry entries and would only be able to get an app which is already in the marketplace

Its called keep alive

FWIW, even though the Wifi is switched off when the screen is off, I believe the OS does switch on & off the wifi as and when it needs to (checking emails, receiving push notifications etc) without fully waking the phone (ie the display stays off)
I run an app that polls a local server every few hours to check for new items. The local IP 192.168.1.65, as it appears on the local network, is the IP it checks. Every morning when I check my phone, the live tile has been updated overnight. It can't have made contact with the server unless it was connecting via Wifi, so therefore the Wifi is indeed being used even when the screen is off.
Therefore, I have no use for Keepalive or any of these apps. I'm not sure why people need it?
There were some recent news which mentioned that Live apps (Don't ask) will most likely remain active, even with the screen locked.
Also, seems that enabling your app as a GPS app will most likely let your app. However, these are discussions and rumors.
Wifi does not get completely shut down when you lock the screen. It simply enters a power-saving mode, cause you won't actively need your connection while phone is locked.
You can check this in easy steps. Get an app that updates itself over internet everytime you run it (say a whether app) and lock the screen at the exact moment when the app goes past the loading screen. You if you press the power button, you will see wifi is active in the status bar.
If you lock it the usual way, while nobody needs wifi, you will see wifi gets turned off almost instantly.
What if you are downloading bunch of podcasts ? Will the podcast app keep the wi-fi on until it finishes ? Also.. skype (or any other chat program) needs to check for updates as well.
I am sure they've made it seamless..
Hey. I've just bough myself a nexus 4 with 4.3 android on it and i was wondering if the GPS is always turned on? Or does it turn on only when an application asks for it? I cant find an on/off button for it like my gf has on her galaxy ace 2.2 android. I noticed when i run google maps the GPS icon appears in the notifications bar. I installed the Avast anti-theft app and was wondering if it needs GPS to work all the time or as i said earlier, just when the app asks for the coordinates (GPS icon doesnt appear like when im using google maps). Thank you and have a great day.
It only activates when an app asks for it it, and then only if you have GPS allowed in location settings.
Look in settting>>location>>see if it's enabled. If it is enabled then your gps will automatic turn on when the app needs it. Also see if you have both option ticked. That way it will use more options to pinpoint your location. I usually do not tick on the wifi option as it drains so much battery for me.
Great! That means it wont drain my battery Thank you for the quick and good answers!
has anyone gotten this? I have GPS off, but the finding location notification and reticle comes up and just never goes away since GPS is obviously off. how can I figure out which app is doing this? it just started, but i haven't installed any new apps lately...

u could install a firewall app where u can enable every app by its own. first shut all apps off, than on one by one to find out which makes this. this is what i would do. yes the app is not for GPS, but mostly when an app starts trying to find out ur location than it wants to deliver the data somewhere. so it could work like this. i have "android firewall" from the play store. its the icon with the blue shield an an android logo on it.
@jayochs GPS toggle switch actually leaves wifi and mobile network location on(Google). Just drops hardware/verizon* GPS. You can long press toggle to check. Not sure if this is your problem, but I found this odd testing and just making sure you are aware. I don't get GPS pops when completely off, I do when I toggle the switch.
