I hear that your able to unlock the bootloader if your on 4.2.2 which i am... what do i do.. how do i go about doing that?? Please Explain in Detail if you know how Thanks in advanced
You can't unlock the bootloader. But if you're on mbd or mdl firmware there is an exploit around the bootloader. See this

you posted on another thread you are on mf3, so no loki either
read up in thread [Index] All Things MK2 and ATT in General. And in Hashcodes SafeStrap thread in Development.
SafeStrap will be what you need and there are different ones. No AOSP roms or custom recoveries/kernels.
Read thoroughly it is not easy to pick up at first.
In the All Things thread post 5 will be your route afaik. But read all of OP page and last 20 or so pages of the two threads.
Some study will prevent some heartache--
Odd because in another post I was reading they said the only unlockable bootloader was on 4.2.2? But Thanks for the info guys ill study up

They were wrong. Some think the bootloader is unlocked because of the Loki exploit. But the bootloader is never actually unlocked.

With the i337 study is your friend--
Too many people don't use the correct terminology and like on Android Central some don't know what they are talking about.
No i337 bootloader has been unlocked. Pre MF3 builds have loki-doki exploit to bypass Sammy's security check of kernel when flashing roms. MF3 and above don't have that, so have to use SafeStrap which puts the roms onto the System Partition and bypasses check that way. But, uses your partition memory. So, MF3 and above can only use stock TW kernels in TW based roms. No custom recoveries or kernels. Some folks call the pre MF3 builds using loki as unlocked. But, they are not. There has been some advancement with SafeStrap and flashing MF3 and above roms that may make things better for folks. But, I don't keep that close a tab on them being on MDL. But, irregardless no unlocked bootloaders.
Hope this all makes sense--it still confuses me--:good:

Hello everyone, I just get ATT galaxy S4, It is so fancy, but ATT's craps sucks.
Does ATT S4's bootloader already been hack by XDAs?
If so, how to unlock it?
I just have the TWRP installed in my ATT galaxy S4, could I flash customized ROM and customized kernel now? Or I have to wait until the bootloader is unlock?

The Loki thing still has me confused and curious what folks think... I've been through many of flashes and had good and bad issues over the years but unsure how I feel about flashing up a ATT S4. I've been leaning towards getting a Tmobile S4 with a unlocked bootloader and getting that unlocked since I feel like it will be a bit more bulletproof. Is that paranoia or is Loki close enough to a unlocked bootloader that I can basically do everything with as little risk as would be expected with normal device flashing?

THIS INFO IS EVERYWHERE! READ MAN. useless thread here serious.
hey there bud, sorry everyone feels the need to repeatedly tell you to search instead of ending the thread with an explanation. im also sorry everyone else feels like this information is readily available, when its the furthest from that. you will require some digging and deduction skills to acquire all the information needed to fully utilize the loki function.
Since att took it upon themselves to lock the bootloader, the kernel has to be properly provisioned before it will allow it to boot (if the kernel is not set up correctly, you will receive an error about unapproved software on the device and will have to restore sans odin....yuck), so our awesome drjbliss and the infamous adamoutlers have provided a tool called "loki" which will allow bypassing of the locked bootloader and allow us to run the custom firmware.
please ensure that whatever ROM you are running has been previously provisioned with loki, or you are flashing a custom kernel that has loki baked in. Alternatively, there is an auto loki tool floating around called "loki doki" that can be flashed after any ROM to pre-loki it before boot.
You can PM me with any specific questions, and all you trolls should learn to help instead of complaining. In the amount of posts it took to complain about the OP not searching, it would have only taken one post to clarify and then this thread would have simply got buried.

Been doing fine jd, thanks. Hope you are too.
Yes, I really like it. Not gonna Jailbreak, but my bank just started accepting Apple Pay. So, going to play with it. Something for an old man to have fun with.
It's just picking up steam as far as number of merchants, so ordered and will mess with the LoopPay FOB where AP isn't used yet. A year ago I would have sworn I would never use this techy stuff for banking. Must be getting soft.
FIrst of all thank You for taking the time to naswer
Second!
I have my phone rooted + CWM, am I ready to install Custom Roms? I know we need the bootloader unlocked in order to gain the ability to install custom roms, but I don't see any bootloader unlocking for the S4.
Have things changed? Or is the process of installing Clock work Basically two in 1, bootloader unlock + Custom Recovery install
I guess clarification is more of a better title
EDIT 1
While I'm at it I have a different question as well. If I run a custom Launcher (buzz) and freeze most bloatware the S4 stock has, is there any benefit of installing let's say Google Play Edtion Rom from the threads? I'm thinking mostly for ram purposes/battery.
If you are on the i337M you are good to go, bootloader is unlocked
Since you asked that question, would suggest you read up on the noob stickies before flashing and read the rom OP pages and scan the thread of the rom you want to flash.

jd1639 is right, rooting is not an issue with MF3, but make sure you read up on safe strap if you want custom roms... There's very little in the area of custom recovery at this time, if you get to the point where you can't at least boot to the point of being able to use ADB, you'll have to visit best buy to see if they will flash you back to stock, which can be iffy... If they won't help, you'll have to wait for Kies to get MF3, or wait for someone to find a work around for MF3.
Good morning guys, Please pardon my ignorance if you find anything dumb about this post, I just switched back to Android yesterday.
I want to side load 4.4.2 on my Verizon Note 3 Using Odin. I found this write up here --
http://androidcentral.us/2014/01/update-galaxy-note-3-to-android-4-2-2-kitkat/
A couple of things that concerned me were it has to be factory unlocked. "Make sure your phone is factory unlocked. It is compatible for both users". Being that it is global ready does that mean it is "unlocked"?
I know I should root but being that I just got it I want to make sure there is not anything wrong with it first etc as I heard once rooted its irreversible and Samsung would know (correct me if I am wrong).
Any follow up insight would be great thanks guy.
First question. Are you with Verizon? If yes, is the the developer edition? If no, then DO NOT FLASH THIS. The link you posted is for the international version of the note 3. Being able to use a Verizon n3 globally via adding that plan does not make it unlocked.
Also. There are a few other threads on this same exact topic.

I hope I caught you before you tried anything.

If you were to flash that it would most likely brick your phone. Just because you root your phone doesn't mean that it's permanently rooted or that "samsung will know". It's not hard to get rid of root access either. If you have never rooted a device before I suggest you do a little research on how to root your specific device before you start. There are a lot of write ups on XDA and other sites that will provide some very helpful information. I've read countless posts of people who rooted and started messing with files that they didn't know what they were for and ended up with a paperweight for a phone, all because they didn't take the time to search and read the forums first.
I have rooted my phone while not tripping KNOX, I am still on M17 4.3 that came with my phone. I am trying to upgrade to KitKat, as I have heard from numerous people in my area that the signal has improved dramatically for LTE and 4G.
1. How do I go about upgrading to KitKat without tripping KNOX or losing root? Is that possible at this juncture?
2. Can I upgrade to a custom Kitkat ROM while also recieving my signal upgrade? Or do I have to upgrade to an official firmware/ROM first before I recieve the better signal?
Thank you very much for the knowledge!!
Upgrading to stock 4.4 won't trip your knox but custom 4.4 will most probably do.
So should I take the Ota update or what? Will I lose root?

If you already have the ota for your carrier/device then go for it. You might loose root as this is official but you can root again after if that is the case.

There is a guide at the link below specifically for tmobile on how to upgrade to 4.4. Maybe you can post your question there as most likely someone in the same situation as you have posted there. As far as tripping knox, as long as you flash official 4.4 firmware it will not trip. Rooting and custom recovery on 4.4 I don't know since I don't have the tmo one.
