Battery Temp/CPU Temp

I have a feeling that the battery temp reading we see on our phones is actually the cpu temp or motherboard temp
I ran setcpu stress-test for about 30 minutes (phone unplugged) and the temperature got to nearly 50 degrees Celcius
Feeling the top middle area on the back of the phone (and the same area on the screen on the opposite side) that area feels hot, the battery however is stone cold.
So... Battery Temp = cpu temp?

Anyone got an opinion on this? Its important for the overclocking crowd

I can tell for sure that battery and CPU temps is always the same but where is the sensor?? On the battery or the CPU?
If I was designing this phone I would put it on the CPU as it is more likely to produce heat if overused.
However I just experience a drastic temp raise from 33C to 41C in 1 min just after pluging in the phone. I was using it but noting eavy. I was only changing some startup setting with an app called Autorun Manager. So it might be related to battery but according to what you said it is more likely to be located on the CPU.

I currently have one of those extended batteries and tmeperature rises to 52 C after 10-15 min of playing gameloft hd games. I have measured phone temperature with an infra red thermometer and battery was 30-32 degree and upper part of the phone (between sim card and camera seemed to be as high as 49 degree) so the sensor must be on the cpu or motherboard, not anywhere close to the battery.
Unless battery gets hot inside and is cold outside for some reason. And sensor is simply inside the battery like in a laptop battery (google: 'How Lithium-ion Batteries Work' and open first result)
In my personal opinion manufacturers wouldn't waste space inside the battery for additional sensor that looks pretty big on the website above. Furthermore a hot battery would be hot throughout its casing too.

Temperature Issues?

When I am using my phone with WiFi ON or browsing the web, the temperature rises upto 45°C and 54°C while charging....
I am not sure if this is the average temperature or its too high.....

When charging there is always some inefficiency as the battery accepts current.. this is generated as heat. When simultaneously charging and using a high current drain activity (such as wifi or browsing) it is not uncommon for devices to become pretty warm... whether this is similar to others or not i cannot say, however I doubt there is a risk to the device as the semiconductors are typically rated to a minimum of 70C..
you can also always try an alternative charging source..some perform better than others.

I had this problem when I was on franco kernels. I am now on the latest AbyssNote and my phone had rarely gone over 38C.

[Q] Nexus 4 heat problem

I am getting bothered by the heat of my nexus 4 especially at the camera side..., when I play psx emulator it really gets hot and it gets hotter when it is charging... even if i am only watching or streaming the internet it gets noticeably hot, so i would like to know if this is ok or not.
what are apps that could monitor the temperature?
what is the normal temperature when gaming and idle?
I would like to know about this things so that if my unit is a lemon, i could return it to lg for the warranty.

you have a quad core device, its normal. when you stress the cpu, gaming, streaming, itll heat up. when you charge, your battery will heat up. the back o the phone is glass, so itll feel like it gets hot fast. when the device hits a certain cpu temperature, heat throttling kicks in. this will lower your cpu speed and cool down your device. when it goes over the cpu safety temperature(100C i believe), the cpu will shut down and the phone will power off. there are several apps that show the cpu and battery temperature. remember, battery temperature and cpu temperature are two completely different temperature readings.

System tuner gives you cpu temp. But you should get an app that tells you battery temp as well...

simms22 is right you can under clock it safely kernel tuner is free on play

Intel CPUs (i5, i7, etc.) can survive going over 100 degree Celsius, but the commonly quoted safe temperature limit for long term operation is 70 degree Celsius. I would assume that the same holds true for other silicon chips, and find it difficult to believe that the shut off temperature for the Nexus 4 is 100 degree Celsius - you will be getting serious burns on your fingers by then.

That is a little worrying. Are you using a case? Also what is the room temperature where you were using the phone?

[Q] Phone overheats while gaming

Hi,
I've been using G2 for the past one week. Within minutes of playing a game( `10 mins), the phone heats up a lot at the back where the camera is placed.
I dont even need to play high end games like NOVA 3. Just regular games like Candy crush, Cut the rope etc heats up my phone real bad.
It heats up so much that its impossible to touch it with your hand.
Please advice if anyone has faced this issue.

Guys you realize that you have a quadcore at 2.26 Ghz... And when you play a (heavy) game or some other heavy tasks (browsing in 4G for example) it's normal that the CPU heats, right?
Temperature is very subjective without reading the CPU temp with an app, it feels hot in your hand (you can have cold hands and in this case you feel much more the heat) and it's hot because the CPU temp is about 90°C is different...
Heat and overheat (or "maximum overheating" like above ) is different too..., in any case there is a thermal throttling that prevent overheating. Our CPU shutdowns at 120°C so there is a little room... Even 80°C is nothing for the CPU...
Even 90°C for the CPU temperature is almost nothing (for the the stressed people) and there is a thermal protection in any case. Thermal throttling that reduces the CPU freq according to the CPU temp, same thing for the battery. And in case of extreme temperature -> shutdown.
And if you speak about "overheating" when playing a game or browsing while charging your phone...
Check your CPU temp with an app and report here...
It remembers me all the threads about "overheating" in the Nexus 4 forum...

I will definitely try installing a temperature app and will report the temp soon.
I'm worried that the heating takes place near the area where the camera is located. Can this have any adverse effect on the camera?

I cant vouch for a smartphone camera in general, but I know I had a newer regular old camera that sat in the sun and the heat for a day, and was perfectly fine. I don't see the heat damaging the camera.

Average temperature and battery life.

What is the average temperature of CPU and Battery on your Z3+ ?
Mine is about 45-50 CPU and 42 Battery.
Could sometimes get up to 70 CPU and 47 Battery "Too hot for a short time at random times".
Battery life is about 4:30 SOT.
Is that normal for this device? What apps do you use to regulate the temp and increase the battery life?

Same with me on stock or custom 7.1.1

it varies from 40 to 50 on idle.
However, it's summer here and temperature is kind of hot "About 42c"
I don't know if that's related.

yes, room temperature affects temperature of the phone on idle

I live in Turkey/Konya, idle temperature is low. But when I started to use the phone, it gets hot after 4-5 minutes later. Even though I am a light user, this heat and lag poblem made me hate Sony. I will never buy a Sony phone again. Some say new XZ Premium and XZ1 don't get hot so much but I can't trust them. If you have a Qualcomm Processor phone, heating becomes a scourge for you. I used and using Samsung Exynos phones but they never had so much problem about heating so much.
