Confirm whether it is 32Gb or 16Gb? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I've just bought this Galaxy S5 on a well known auction site.
My problem is it was sold as a 32Gb model but the storage only shows 16Gb (without any additional SD card fitted) .
I did a check with the IMEI number and it shows it should be 32Gb. Is this because of a bad flash when the seller reset everything for selling, or can the IMEI number be wrong? The box it came in also said 16Gb which has added to my suspicions.
All advice and help gratefully received.

On these auction sites you buy a product as is afaik, no refunds or warranty. I guess if both the phone and the box say its a 16GB device it probably is a 16GB device. You could call Samsung to provide clarity or Google if the device`s imei number is reported as stolen.

Well if it says 16 GB.. that's probably what it is. You failed to tell us what S5 model you bought or give us any context e.g. what carrier it originated from or which auction site which seriously impairs our ability to help you. For example AFAIK, none of the US carriers offers a 32 GB version. Look in the settings menu, about device or storage and see if you see something closer to 16 GB or 32 GB?
Probably your best bet is to download the free version of the (Samsung) Phone Info app from the Google Play store. It should tell you how large your ROM is and also do a cursory appraisal of your phone's authenticity.
For a more authoritative confirmation, you could run any number of utilities to check the ROM size e.g. parted, fdisk, gdisk. Note that a lot of utilities require root however.
e.g.
[email protected]:/ $ su
[email protected]:/ # cat /proc/partitions
major minor #blocks name
253 0 1048576 vnswap0
179 0 15388672 mmcblk0
179 1 15360 mmcblk0p1
179 2 58816 mmcblk0p2
179 3 512 mmcblk0p3
[ ... ]
Note the size of mmcblk0 (your ROM)
~ 15388672 = 16 GB
~ 31268536 = 32 GB
.

Thanks for the replies guys. Like I said I checked the storage info in settings and it showed 16Gb. I heard though that this can happen from a bad flash perhaps when he was returning it to factory standard settings.
The model is a SM-G900F and it's unlocked and currently working fine with the 3 Network here in the UK. I just find it strange when I do the x#06# for the IMEI number it looks like it should have 32Gb. I'll do like you suggested and download that app and see what it says.

The IMEI check is not always correct.
You can see the storage capacity on the back of the phone (the sticker behind the battery).
Or you can use Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app to check for the internal storage capacity (under MISC INFO section).
You may also want to check if the phone is a refurbish one (open 'Phone INFO ★Samsung★' app > Menu > Refurbishment Check).

I downloaded that app and it has shown it to be a genuine UK model 16Gb model. Ok, it's not what I was after but I got a good discount off it as compensation and as it seems ok in all other reapects I'll just keep it.
Cheers for all your help guys

PHONES PURCHSED FROM Mobiles.co.uk

Hi all,
I have recieved my phone from mobiles.co.uk finaly who initially advertised the I9000 as the 16gb version... This is incorrect and have since changed their website to 8gb..
I have been in contact with mobiles.co.uk who have tried to send me an 8gb memory to make up the difference. Like probably most of us here we already have 8gb memory cards so this is useless but may be useful to you.
I would advise that anybody who has purchased the Samsung Galaxy S from mobiles.co.uk as the 16gb version, to double check and you'll probably find its the 8 and if you want to return it.. do so before the return policy runs out and goto vodaphone for the 16.
I am curious how many people they have done this too!!!
Hi, I bought mine from Mobiles.co.uk, and yes it was advertised as 16g, but it was also advertised as having an LED Flash at one point. But being realistic I never expected to get a 16G version since Vodafone announced a UK exclusive on it. Mobiles corrected this as soon as they got them. I didnt bother asking for an 8 gig card, as you say, we mostly already have them.
You are fully entitled to send it back, and get one from Vodafone, but it will be locked, and likely Vodafone branded with the red dog turd. So I'm happy with my 8G version, and its hardly a limitation given we can add another 32G in the SDHC slot.
I guess its a question of weither you feel cheated or hard done by, or weither you shrug it off as an easy oversight in today's world where a new gadget arrives every week.
Thats exactly it.. but would rather be given the choice than realise when its too late and cant send it back.. Vodafone offer it for £35pm and dont give the half price offer neither which would pay for the SD card..
Just a note to people... thats all.
guys do you know if this phone work on tmobile US? can I buy it off and get it send over to the us????
thanks

[Q] Model isuues : 1B027A , 1B028A - which to choose ?

Well, i didn't found anything about this before so :
Which model to choose :
1B027A
1B028A
???
Any difference between them ?
I had 2 x model 1B027A and i had to return them ( light bleeding, pushed in volume button , and a big gap between glass and edge of tablet ).
If anyone know - please help to decide (or explain models ).
Thanks.
I'm not even sure where you're reading those model numbers. I looked inside my settings and couldn't find anything that looked like those numbers.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
... sorry .. I just get info about 1B030A - its 32GB version
Still 27A & 28A to be checked
Model can be found on the box label.
I have neither of those model numbers on my box either. On the white label "Model: Eee Pad TF101".
If interested mine is 1B031A AS TF101 1B/T250/16G/1G/W which corresponds to TF101, BRN, GL GPS,1G LPDDR2, T250, 16G EMMC, CB - 802.11bgn(AS)_WW + BT2.1, 1.2M/5M CAMERA, 2CELL3300, ANDROID WW,N/A
I have answer for this.
27A - first model 16 GB
28A - first model 16 GB to be sold with docking station (in a bundle)
Post to be closed.
Cheers.

SM-G900 ?

Factory Outlet Store is selling the S5 and has models in stock right now. Pricing is a little high compared to what it will cost from TMOBILE or ATT - $799 - but they are unlocked and will ship in two days.
What seems odd to me is that they say the model is SM-G900 and don't mention a letter at the end? The sales floor at their site doesn't know but I guess it will be printed on the box if anyone buys it from them,.
What I am not certain about is how universal the International Versions will be - I assume they will all be very similar - but any difference in file structure could potentially lead to a brick -
I have never considered buying an international phone in the US before - has anyone here got any experience they can share good or bad with other phones?
*(Edited this after realizing the stupidity of my original question - I can really be a noob sometimes...)
I agree with you in regards to the model number.
On websites like kogan and mobicity for me, in Australia, they don't even say SM G900. they just say Galaxy S5 LTE Model.
I think the model codes will become much clearer once the device is officially on sale. This is one of the reasons why i am slightly afraid to buy now, because i might buy a slightly less popular model with less dev support.
EDIT: sorry, i completely derped out, but i also meant to say that it is not clear exactly which model is the international model, so you should just wait out a little longer.

Well, a little more research seems to indicate that the European Internation Version is SM-G900H - and from what I have been able to see - that is the model number offered by several web sites that are selling it and shipping now.
Something else ODD that I have seen - Most of these sites - EVEN SAMSUNG - lists the S5 as only having up to 64GB of MicroSD Storage. I checked the Samsung site tonight to see if there were differnt models with different micro sd sizes - and I was very surprised to see that Samsung had the phone listed as having up to 64 GB micro SD - where all the materials I have seen up to this point has said it has up to 128 GB.
I wonder is it possible that Samsung Changed their mind and did 128 after they released the original material or will different versions of the phone offer different amounts of Micro SD Storage? very ODD -

Yes, that is what I meant - actually, I should have said "western european" version - but then I am just making some assumptions based on what I have read on a number of different web sites - from Sammy mobile - to Samsung - to various Online Electtroics sites to Amazon.com and so on -
Patience is not one of my best virtues - but I will have to bide my tme and wait. I have a preorder for a TMOBILE phone but I got a feeling I am going to be sending it back - from everything I have read it appears more and more that TMOBILE has locked the bootloader on the S5 - I obviosly hope that is not the case - but time will tell....

it is almost certain that carrier branded versions will have a locked bootloader.
for the xperia z at least, bootloader unlocking is not possible for the t mobile versions. they don't even allow you to unlock it.
so you just have to watch out for that.

I know - that is why I am starting to look at buying an International version - they cost a little more than the Carrier versions - but they are compatible with ATT from what I have been told and they are definitely unlocked. The only thing I am struggling with is knowing which version they are selling - they call it the SM G900 - but other sites call it SM G900H - which according to Sammy is the European version -

I contacted mobicity recently and they said the international version was called the SM G9005.
dunno if i can be certain about that though. But yeah, as you said before, you're a patient person so that will come in handy
EDIT: couldn't find anything on the SM G9005 :/ only found a bunch of leaks from january
Whatch out it's a fake!!
Hi, I'm not trying to pun on anyone, but I bought a SM - G900 (*no letter after it), it is an international phone, it is factory unlocked, works with a micro SIM, I have a 30 Gb micro SD card in it, rooted, making phone calls and connecting to the internet via my provider's data plan (Ultra Mobile) and through wifi, but here's the truth about this phone!:
* It says that it has 16 Gb of internal storage (BIG FAT LIE!), even though I says that in the settings, you will fill it up with a couple of applications, and it will quickly state that there's not enough space, I connected it to my computer using MKT drivers, and it still shows those 15.something Gb, but the files in it just take about 3, including the ROM, and it says I only have 500 MB left.
* There's supposed to be a 1.27 Gb phone storage (1.27? Really? not 2 Gb, not one, but 1.27), and that fills up pretty fast too. And displays it as an internal SD card in the file browser.
* I added a 30 Gb micro SD card, I actually purchased this card specially for this phone ... Which now it's just a waste of money, it mounts, but, when I installed Link2Sd on the phone, it just keeps transferring the applications from the internal to the phone storage to the phone storage itself, I tried formatting the card as ext4, ext3, ext2, swap and it keeps getting reformatted to fat32 every time the phone detects it, it says that the sd card is damaged and needs to be formatted, so you're pretty much stuck to whatever the real storage amount the phone has. I even tried making a 2nd partition with Mini Partition tool and Aparted, but then, the phone doesn't mount the 2nd partition, only the first one.
* The pictures and videos taken from the camera, can automatically go to the sd card, but they get corrupted after a reboot with no option of recovering them, **ssed me of because I had taken a video of my 2 yr old son saying "I love you daddy".
* It is rooted, but not through a custom rom or anything like it, I mean, IT ALREADY CAME WITH A CUSTOM ROM! So it was already rooted, I tried One Click Root and the application said that the phone was successfully rotted, but Super User had not been installed on it, downloaded SU from play store, only to find out that the phone already had root acces, just had to install SU to give apps permissions.
* The screen mirroring on Samsung smart Tv's doesn't work, it's not even picked up as a media device when connected through USB to it.
* The battery literally dies after only 3 hours of use (as opposed to the battery life on the real S5) without any low battery warning.
* The smart pause and smart scroll doesn't work correctly, the videos pause as you are watching them and the scroll actually makes the screen twitch.
* Cannot download any Samsung apps to it BECAUSE IT'S NOT REALLY SAMSUNG!
* Doesn't come with the Samsung Navigator, you have to download google maps, and, at least to me, Samsung navigator is better.
* Driving mode NEVER enables, even if you enable it manually or put it in a dock.
* IT IS NOT WATERPROOF!
* IT IS NOT A RUGGED PHONE!
* CANNOT flash another custom rom to it (or at least I have been afraid to do it) because there seems to be nothing compatible with it and don't want to turn it into a brick.
* The IMEI on the phone DOESN'T exist on the IMEI check list!
* Even though I had to use the MKT drivers to connected to the computer, I tried the original S5 drivers and it doesn't connect, and the mass storage driver never installs succesfully, so no mass storage device driver for it.
* Custom recovery? Well, it already comes with one ... IN CHINESE! So you really can tell what to click without erasing the phone.
* Stock recovery ... it does have it, so you press the volume up button and the power on button at the same time, and you get the dead android logo, then you press volume up again along with the home key and you get into the stock recovery, but can't partition from there ... lame.
* No gorilla screen on this one.
* It cost me $300.00 usdlls, which is not fair, the phone does exactly the same and works the same as a $50 - $100 usdll phone.
* It is a replica, there's no original Samsung anything in it, even tried Samsung live support (the one that you can see the live representative through google hangouts) and the guy said ... literally ... and I quote: "I'm sorry, I can't give out any support for your phone because that serial number is incorrect (I sent him the picture of the sn from the sticker inside the phone), the IMEI doesn't exist and Samsung doesn't make a SM - G900 model, it has to have a letter at the end of this for identification", and then he just closed the session, without any further explanation, just like that, without noticing me that the support session had to be closed.
End point being: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!

IMEI Number does not match

Hi there!
I'm planing to buy a Note 4 from a guy. The phone is brand new with box which is brought from Germany, N910F.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/lv46p1ymv63pf2h/AhnMYhQ3GbaEnhSa3gXAjIdBnaKKkMj4dnN2416P4kXZ.jpg?dl=0
The thing is when I check it's imei (the seller sent me a clear picture showing imei on the box), it says that the imei is a old nokia phone. (imei.info) I tried couple of different phones, 5 different android phones, and I only got one phone which does not match, LG G3. ı know that it's a legal phone, my friend bought it from a samsung store. So the thing is, do you guys think that that Note 4 is fake? Or is there a problem about website since it shows LG G3 as a old phone?
I want to make sure everything is ok about this phone before paying alot!
Thank you!
Can you call Samsung? They may be able to confirm whether this the IMEI of a legit Note 4. The website could be wrong, surely. But before purchasing, it's worth investigating. Good luck!

My Galaxy S10 = FAKE

About six months ago I purchased a fake 512GB Samsung Galaxy S10 plus for $800 off eBay..
I had no idea it was fake until a few days ago after watching YouTube videos on fake S10’s...
It looked soo legit when it arrived and the nice packaging...
Live and learn....
I have not been able to update the phone since I bought it...
Is it possible to update a fake Galaxy S10?
What would anyone else do if they were in my position?
So it's one of those Chinese knock offs? Is it even running Android 10 and One Ui 2?

Under settings my serial number is: 123456789abcd... Another sign that my sign that my phone is fake.
Hmm it's possible it might be a hacked phone meaning they hacked the crap out of Android and made everything look legit when it's not. Or it could be a copy. If it's running Samsung firmware with one UI you should be able to flash the latest Samsung firmware with Odin.

Yeah most times if serial numbers don't match like that it's fake and best way to find out is use cpu z and antutu and look into hardware info cpu has to be the qualcomm snapdragon 855 if it's the chinese version if it's like MPD or MTD something something random then yeah it's fake sometimes it will show you the real memory size it's supposed to be 8GB i can't remember fakes ones have less sometimes 1GB or something.
Sorry you got duped bro

The IMEI checker says the Brand is Samsung and Black List is Clean whatever that means..
If it gives you serials numbers and matching imei's regardless if single or dual sim, is real.
Blacklist means if it shows BLACKLISTED it means the previous owner has reported the phone lost or stolen for an insurance claim, or not paid rest of bill, thererfore the network provider block the imeis from operating, aka no calls, texts or data ONLY wifi can be used.
And other easy way to test is to do a software update or manually via odin, download official software.

Ok, thanks.... In the app “ AnTuTu Benchmark” .app it tells me my phone is fake...Cool little app...
Thanks for all your help..
I hope I can update this S10 to Android 10.
Sounds like it's a hacked phone more so than fake to to me. You might be able to flash the latest firmware and everything reset to normal depending on if China messed with the internal circuits or not.
