Galaxy S4 I9506 2g network problem - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I Have a galaxy i9506 (orange france android 4.3),
Phone was unlocked now but I have no network on 2G , 3G finds network just fine.
Any way to fix this? Can I rewrite modem file and then try to unlock with *#0011# method?
If this is posible can someone direct me to a good modem file?
Thank you.

If i write modem is posible to unlock by nck code i supose. I realy need 2g network.

How can I bring the phone to it's original state (locked orange france) so I can the use a NCK code to unlock it?

Flash the france orange firmware from sammobile's firmware database. Instructions are on the same page as the download. I can't link, sorry.

I did that , It kept all my programs and settings intact , root was left intact too. I used odin 3.09 . so nothing happedend after flashing original firmware from sammobile.

Complete Refresh

If you have rooted than its very good, wipe everything from recovery and flash complete firmware from odin. Its impossible that root is there, because system, kernel and recovery partitions are overwritten. However su binary app will be there but will not work because data partition remains intact.
Now back to your original problem, i don't know how you unlocked your phone? I am afraid phone's efs is not corrupted, because if everything is good means imei and modem and when phone try to register on network of locked phone then it simply ask code. Check imei, modem and network status, if your phone is registered on network and showing carrier name?
Backup efs partition before playing more because if efs is corrupted than you are finished ! I9506 is qualcomm version so QPST tool can also help in modem related issue, press thanks if it helps

Indeed after reflash i lost root. But the phone is still unlocked and no 2g signal. How can i relock it? The phone was unlocked with direct unlock option from some unlock software... dunno witch one(I bought it already unlocked and rooted )

I searched some gsm forums and found something that is said to work for I9506 too:
SPT BOX forum :
4.4.2 kitkat net probleme after supper imei unlock
connect your N9005 to the Box using USB in ( dm+modem+adb ) mode by dialing *#0808# in Samsung's Dialer ..
1st - Choose N900w8 from the list then click Repair 3G Network this will Fix the 2G network
2 - choose N9005 again and press repair 3G network again this will Fix the 3G network with 2G working too
Unfortunately I don't think anyone in my city has SPT BOX ( .... i will search some gsm services

I told u some points, please follow it and find out what is the root cause of your problem then try to ask or fix. You can use qualcomm nv tools and qpst for imei but first find out what is the cause then ask for help.
EFS professional also has nv tools and other fixes, use this download link

Hi , thank U for the info. I must now learn how to use the program to rebuild NV of the phone ( atleast i think that i must do) . never had to do such fixes of any phone. The i9506 was unlocked by direct unlock in z3x box. After that no more 2g connectivity , the phone finds network if I manualy search but cannot connect to it. Sais emergency calls only.
Anyway I think your sugestion will fix my problem .... just have to learn how to use program
Thanks again.

I rooted phone , backed up all that I could find to backup in EFS Professional 2.1.73 and after that I tried option "repair NV Data file permisions" "Option to repair NV data file ownership to fix 'Unknown baseband' and 'No signal' issues." .... then big dissapointment .... popup "This option cannot be used with your device! " . Damn I was realy hopeing that the option will repair my 2G signal problem. Seems that I must find another solution .... maybe some other sugestions?
Thank you.

When u run efs professional u have 4 options, try 2nd option 'Qualcomm nv tools' . Check information on diagnostic tab and if u see any thing wrong try secure ops tab for ESN / MEID / IMEI repair, also first check that your phone is showing correct IMEI by *#06# which is on behind the battery.

The phone is showing corect imei. I browsed through tabs , backed-up nvdata(took more than 30 min).I will look at diagnostics tab to see if anything shows "RED" .
Thank U.

I made some screenshots with the info shown in NV TOOLS . I don't know what to look for to see is not ok.

Plz post snaps of lockscreen, imei check window (*#06#) and phone about device. also tell me which firmware u have?

Screenshots , Firmware is Official 4.3 Orange France from Sammobile

From snaps, it seems your phone is registered on network and modem is working fine that's why showing correct IMEI. Normally when your phone is not registered on network, shows emergency call and null IMEI then you are unable to call or sms but i can't understand your case. If you are not able to call or sms then try changing different carrier sim or upgarde to latest kitkat 4.4.2, follow this link
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9506
P.S. At last post snap of complete status window(in two snaps) from about device.

At last i can say your phone efs is corrupt, try manually writing IMEI again from Qualcomm nv tools and flashing kitkat 4.4.2. If don't work then samsung tool (Z3X) or other hardware box can fix efs like u unlock from Z3X box.
This is free tool which offer imei repair, ChimeraTool

i have same problem
:crying:
If I were experiencing this, with my limited knowledge, I would flash with Odin back to stock mdc and do a full factory reset. If after that there wasn't any network connection, I'd call Sprint customer service number from a land line and ask them to walk me through programming the phone properly. I'd probably tell them the phone kept freezing up so I did a full factory reset and now the phone refuses to connect on the network. Maybe something unknown happened and something got erased during the reset and needs to be entered manually again. I'm not saying this is what you need to do but I'm saying that this is what I would do if it happened to me. I do not claim to know what I'm talking about either but it sounds like the most logical thing to me to do.
Because we didn't get a full restore for this it may be an issue.
I'll see if I can make a better package to hopefully fix that.
Bump, is there no fix for this yet?
This is why you do a efs back up

Solution
Just flash old MDC tar such L720VPUAMDC_L720SPTAMDC_L720VPUAMDC_HOME.tar.md5
You should get signal back
then use DFS Tool to restore MEID & ESN & IMEI if you lost then.

Agreed. Whenever I have imei problems I reflash the modem, when you do this it rebuilds the NV files and such.
If you still feel like you need the Service Mode Menu you may need to navigate to efs/carrier/ and edit the hiddenmenu file with a text editor to ON instead of OFF . If this doesn't work then google the subject and you will find your answers.

GSM ONLY mode not registered.

Greetings guys...
I just got a note 3 SM-N9005 as a gift from my relative in Netherlands. Problem is gsm only mode never worked, if I changed it to gsm only it just shows emergency call only. WCDMA and LTE works just fine, just gsm only not registered.
As I traveled a lot to an area with poor connection or with just 2g only available, the phone try to change to gsm mode but it never get registered, just showing emergency call only.
I already roit and flashed it with my country 4.4.2 malaysia firmware and factory reset it numerous times, but the problem still not fix.
Anyone can help me, please...

What is your effective CSC? (as shown by CSC Select or some other similar program).
You might still need to root and install RegionLockAway.
I Have 2g but no 3G nor 4g on n9005

Hi there,
My note 3 do the contrary. Mine (n9005) can register 2g but doesn't pick up the 3g signal. The only options I have in the network mode settings menu are: gsm/wcdma automatic, and wcdma only. 2g signal only is picked up when I check gsm/wcdma but when I switch to Wcdma(hoping it will pick up the 3g), phone just can't register to any signal. APN is correctly configured. Phone was unlocked, still unrooted, on stock kit lat, updated via ota
here's it's info when I click *#1234# i the dialer:
AP N9005XXUENA6
CP N9005XXUENA2
CSC N9005VFGENA4
Do you have any solution please to enable 3g on this phone?
Thank you in advance.

I got mine from Netherlands too and I am experiencing the same problem here in Egypt but I've noticed that the IMEI on the back of my phone and the SW doesn't match and I think this is the cause of this problem
same problem
i have the same problem i bought my sm-n9005 from UAE and uses it in Egypt i have the same problem only the gsm not registered to network but the WCDMA mode is registered and couldn't find aany help on the net and i wounder if i rooted my cell will it work or no or it has to be unlocked i don't know what to do please help if any one figure out what to do just say it thanks
I'm having the same problem with n9005 in Egypt ... connects only to 3G network
Imei and S/N both are different from whats under the battery
I'm on NB3 4.4.2
Fixed ...
I fixed My SM-N9005 using SPT box and i have 2G/GSM working again
it has been unlocked using super imei with the SPT Box to work outside Europe
unfortunately there was a bug in the 2G/GSM network
they fixed it now ..
so all you have to do is find any mobile repair shop near you that has the SPT Box
connect your N9005 to the Box using USB in ( dm+modem+adb ) mode by dialing *#0808# in Samsung's Dialer ..
Choose N900w8 from the list then click Repair 3G Network ( this will Fix the 2G network )
then choose N9005 again and press repair 3G network again ( this will reFix the 3G network with 2G working too )
this will not restore the original IMEI - S/N but the phone will be fully functioning
SM - N9005(europian) UK model work only 3G not on 2G

I have the exact same issue as you described with SIMs in India( with Europe (UK) model phone that was bought in Dubai):
refer my post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51173634).
When I have contacted the local service center guys with SPT box, the above steps doesn't help solve the problem.
BTW, my handset is upgraded to 4.4.2 but rooted. So I am not sure if that is blocking the above steps to work.
Any suggestions are welcome..

Thanks for your reply. the steps you mentioned have worked like a charm. My mobile works on 2G and 3G just fine.
I went to one of the local service shops here in Bangalore(India), and have forced him to just try the steps as is using SPT.
There was lot of hesitation by the service guy(just like the Samsung service guys), but I had asked him to just do it and at the end it just worked.
Thanks a bunch. I am so happy

I'm having this issue as well as the imei issues; and as such, I'm getting the not registered error quite a bit. I prefer using 2g while on the go for bbm, whatsapp, Facebook, etc and 3g only when I'm browsing (to save on battery). Does this method solve the not registered problem as well, or is it just to rectify the 2g/3g issue?

Additionally, I hear mention from a couple of persons that they ended up taking their phones to repair shops and had them do it. Is it that special hardware has to be used along with the spt software; or can I just connect up to my laptop with the software and do it myself?
Has anyone found a fix without the need for an SPT?

i have a samsung note 3 SM-N9005 which i bought from hong kong. the issue is that it was working only on 3G, no 2G or LTE. was showing emergency calls only if i selected anything else than wcdma only in the mobile network
so i tried everything i could to fix it but without luck, until today
follow these steps and will work(mention: my note 3 is rooted)
1. go to keyboard inside Phone and dial *#0808#
2. select DM + MODEM + ADB and press OK
3. download SPT : seach on google "samsung professional tools ver 19.5.7" and click first link(password is Nokia.Firmware)
4. put SPT install folder into exclusions inside the antivirus as it may block your repair
5. open SPT, select Model SM-N900W8, select highest Port (eg: i had COM4 and COM5, so i selected COM5. if you don't see nothing just rescan or else go back to step 1)
6. click Repair 3G Network in Service Tools tab and wait to finish
7. select Model SM-N9005(your phone), reselect highest Port(COM5 for me) and click Repair 3G Network and wait to finish
8. reboot the phone
it worked like a charm for me and i hope for you also

LS980 - Need help with Debugging Modem - Doesnt connect to WDCDMA / CDMA Networks .

Have the Sprint LS980 , unlocked and using it in India. However It does not connect to any CDMA/WCDMA networks . I have followed this Topic to the T . This used to work before i bricked my phone and ended up Erasing all partitions and was stuck in Download mode only.
I have gone through all the possible failures with this phone including Soft Brick , hard bricks etc and have been able to revive it from there with the help of the XDA comunnity.
 @Lifoo in particular.
I also had the EFS partitions messed up and was able to update and fix the IMEI , MEID and ESN numbers using the DFS CDMA tool !
But After all this , I still cannot connect to CDMA/WCDMA networks .
If I select GSM only then I immediately connect and get GPRS / EDGE Data , however any other choises including WCDMA only results in no Service.
I have checked my SIM on another Phone and it works fine in the same location on WCDMA. All this used to work fine before I bricked the phone , so there are a few more fixes that need to be done before i can consider this as 100% working. Any help in getting through this last mile is much appreciated . I have spent the last 3-4 days getting IMEI , MEID and ESN numbers fixed thinking this to be the cause. However even after these changes I have had no luck !
ls980 can't take wcdma/cdma
how about check your setting? whether choose the right nerwork mode
Yes , I have checked all the APN and Network Settings multiple times. They are correct .
Attached are my Radio/Modem logs.
GSM.txt -> When i Switch to GSM only option
WCDMA.txt -> When I switch to WCDMA only option.
Any suggestions ?

[Q] service menue (+#0011#) Service : Limited ?

Hi,
I have this problem, after the mobile was rootet in a bad way. (Knox - 0x1)

2. In the service menue (*#0011#) Line 13 IMEI CERTI : FAIL
3. in the service menue Line 11 Service: Limited
Well, the first and second problem I solved, but I still have no network.
I think Line 11 -> Service : Limited, is the problem.
Do anybody has a idea how can I fix this problem?

Your problem is IMEI 0/0 - most networks will not let a device with IMEI 0 join the network.
Your only hope that will not cost you is to try to restore a "golden backup" - also POSSIBLY present there inside service menu or if you have a backup of the partitions MODEMST1(12)/MODEMST2(13)/FSG(18).
Other than that you will need to contact a very competent shop (but as far as I know very few boxes can write back the IMEI on N9005) or Samsung directly.

The Imei I allready write back, its showing the right IMEI if I type *#06#.
Also my Imei certi is on PASS again.
But if I type *#0011# on line 11 shows -> Service: limited
Maybe thats why I don't have a net.

Does it show the same IMEI that is written under the battery? Since it is almost certain that somebody wrote you one of the 5 or so special IMEI numbers with certificates that have been circulating around with some boxes and which have been already blacklisted in most of the world.
No network coneted

Ok, the story is like that.
My son in law visit me here in Austria, and just befor he fly home again to the philippines, he buy him a Note 3 (SM-N9005) from here in Austria.
But he don't read the sticker on the box, " Europe Model" it has to be used with a europian SIM CARD before it can be used with a asian SIM.
So he just went to a mobile store in the Philippines and tell them to open the SIM lock.
After this the phone not work anymore right, it operate very slow. So finaly he send it back to me, by Fedex.
I take it to the "Mobile Store" here in Austria, but the told me the can't fix it becouse the " IMEI is lost 00/00" and in the Service menu ( *#0011#) it shows IMEI CERTI: FAIL.
So I bring it back home and try to fix it.
The Status now is:
1.) I write the IMEI back with this tool: EFS_Professional_2.1.73 ---> it works great my Imei is back
2.) I flash many moden.bin's until I'm sucsessful, and now my " IMEI Certi is : PASS
3.) If I try to use the phone, everything looks fine baseband is there the phone is fast, the only thing, if I try to use it as a phone, it say's " Not registerd to a Network" Emergency call only"
So I don't know waht the to in the Philippines, when the try to unlook it.
If I look in the Service Mode, it shows Service Limited.
Any Idea ?

Check if you have IMEI
Go to Settings > About > Status
If its null or empty that means your IMEI is lost and you cant use any SIM or network, IMEI can be only restored if you made a backup before.
If you are lucky enough reflashing the phone firmware maybe solve the problem
