One of the mods linked this snapdragon based band unlock on the front page.
It's a thread for a sony phone, but it's claimed that this will work (or should work) with any snapdragon chip with root. Has anyone tried this or attempted any similar methods on the LG G3?
I'm interested in the 1700mhz umts (hspa+) (aka AWS band), i'm guessing since the tmobile G3 and the wind S5 both use the the same s801 and have the same AWS band i'm after makes me assume this is probly a software limitation or what do you guys think?

I am currently on StraightTalk service using a t-mobile sim. I am interested in purchasing the LG G2 with my current sim. Before doing so, I wanted to see if anyone has any feedback with using the 4G LTE services with their T-mobile sim on Straighttalk?
Do you have any suggestions on where I can purchase a T-mobile compatible LG G2? I did find one on negri electronics but it did not mention that it was T-mobile compatible (The T-mobile site doesn't have an option to purchase the LG G2 unlocked currently).
I would appreciate any pointers in purchasing this phone unlocked, looks like an awesome phone!!

IIRC the tmobile, att, and international editions are the same hardware wise. I'd double check, but buying the ATT version unlocked is the cheapest way to do it.

I bought mine retail at the AT&T store and they gave me an unlock code over the phone the same day. I then tried my T-mobile SIM card in it and it worked fine (and I got LTE). But I don't know if the AT&T version has the 1700mhz band for T-mobile's non-LTE 4G. I am assuming it does not.
I just got an email notification today that the T-mobile version is available for purchase. You might look into just buying it form T-mobile. I assume they will have it in their store very shortly and that will surely have the 1700mhz band for if you do not live in a refarmed 1900mhz area.

Straight Talk has AT&T LTE now. That's what I am doing when my contract expires in a few months.
Did some more googling

GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
AT&T version (D800) does not support WCDMA 1700 / T-Mobile version (D801) does not support LTE 850"
May or may not be a firmware thing.
Not much mention of the tmobile variant anywhere, everyone has the att version to test. However the tmobile press release did say 1700/2100

The Snapdraon 800 chipset has built in LTE, and Qualcomm made a big fuss about it being "world LTE". On top of that the chipset is supposed to have a configurable radio, so my guess would be each version of the phone should support everything and it would be the firmware that enables or disables different frequencies.

Although I am no dev and I dont recommend just trying this, it would be interesting if a real developer could look to see if firmware could be cross flashed to enable a different radio band on this phone since it is all the same hardware and the chipset its self supports all of it.

Good information and a good idea. It's good to know that the hardware is there, so maybe if the need arose then a dev would look into this.

Hi all, I'm wondering if I may trouble you with a quick question.
I recently bought a Galaxy S5 (Galaxy S5 G900F) in the hopes to have it future proof as I move to Canada next year and would like to have a solid phone for about two - three years. I'm based in Ireland at the moment and wondering can the phone be used in Canada without issue?
I was looking at a phone company (Koodo) who offer great rates and once I inputted my IMEI it stated my phone wouldn't work on their network.
Surely the S5 would work on any network throughout the globe? Last year my Note 3 worked perfectly in America and it was an international edition also.
Is this a hardware issue (radios) or software (were a simple flash of a different rom could fix)?
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Figured it out yet? Ironically the hardware is capable of supporting all GSM and LTE bands world wide. But Samsung endeavors to sell their phones for higher prices in more affluent countries. And carriers don't want to make it easy for you to jump ship and sign your phone up to another network. So they have artificial restrictions in the firmware and other measures e.g. region locking, SIM locks, to limit what you can do. They have to allow enough compatibility that you could usually roam when traveling. But not complete compatibility or you might buy a cheaper S5 from another country. Or change carriers willy nilly.

And so it is for your phone. It will work most of the time in Canada. But it isn't 100% compatible and you may find that it can't operate on the necessary bands in fringe areas or for niche carriers.
Most of the bands are the same between the S5 900F (yours) and the S5 900W8 (Canada)
The differences, I believe are:
2G: same for both
3G: Most bands are the same. But you have B8(900) in place of Canadian band B4(1700 aka AWS)
4G: Most bands are the same. But you have B5(850), B20(800) instead of Canadian bands B4(1700 aka AWS), B17(700)

It appears to me that your phone supports all of the Fido bands. And most, but not all of the bands on other Canadian carriers. I don't believe that your phone will work at all on niche carriers Wind or Mobilicity.

Thank you very much for your reply. I figured it would be something to do with the radio.. Will check the bands for the network Koodoo, if it falls in ok and I can find a firmware to flash which hopefully should do the trick. Hell I might even just sell before I go, make it easier.

Koodo is a secondary brand of Telus.
They use 3G 850 CLR/1900 PCS
And 4G /LTE 1700/2100 (and possibly 700 in the future)
You are missing their 1700 LTE band, sometimes referred to as AWS. So you will have to find out how extensively they use that band and whether it is a sole frequency in any areas.

Hello I have a problem with my LG G2 (D802) Europe model! My carrier have relase 4G in bands 38B 2600 MHz TDD buth lg g2 d802 not have this bands, has instead bands TDD 40B 2300 Mhz!
I can add this bands on my g2?
The new license the company in 2600 MHz band (TDD) has been acquired by a process of transfer of RCS & RDS and 2K Telecom, with the agreement of the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM).

Unfortunately these bands are not something we can add/remove but some chips are hardware capable only that they're restricting them for some reasons.

Try to follow the clip above if you are from RO(the guy who made this wrote the instructions in romanian), should give you what you wanted but apparently everybody is still complaining about band 38 not doing much
I'm also in the same situation, i keep finding stuff that leads me to think that it's possible, first of all the snapdragon 800 supports LTE band 38, there are several threads that have unlocking guides and claim in the first post that several devices have been unlocked (I did not manage on mine unfortunately).
From what i've seen the One plus one has managed to unlock that LTE band, a Galaxy S5 and several phones that have MTK chipsets (with only root access and an app).
So unlocking LTE bands is not impossible (if there is hardware support of course) .
Really hope someone will give us some useful info on this. (we got 4g and extra 10gb of traffic for free, but only on 4g)
i need the band 4(aws) but the XT1642 just have LTE bands 01/05/07/08/19/20/28
have any way to change or chose the bands? or its hardware

There are limitations because of the hardware bits (RF amps) that are missing. For example if the radio works on LTE band 17 (DL 740Mhz, UL 710MHz), then it might be tricked to work in LTE band 12 (DL 737.5MHz, UL 707.5MHz), they are "close enough" to work.
Also I had a Alcatel phone that was sold by T-Mobile with one of the existing bands (LTE 5) de-activated because it was not used by T-Mobile. After unlocking the phone (legally) it would still work poorly on AT&T network - and then I was able to activate that band by using the above software - because the needed RF amps where already present inside.
LTE band 4 AWS is a special animal, the DL and UL frequencies are VERY far apart. Not matching anything else, so even if we can program the radio to work in those bands, the output RF amps will just not be able to perform.

I'd love to say that I understood you but I'm very ignorant about bands and frequencies.
I read that the QC SnapDragon 617 has a X8 LTE Modem (can't link because I'm new, but it's on the QC webpage) which has the Snapdragon Global All Mode, and it's supposed to support band 4 AWS. I don't know if that helps with the output RF amps, or I'm totally doomed.
Yes the X8 Modem supports the bands. But it needs something else to work. Those bits are soldered on the US version and not on the EU one. Similar, on the EU one there is band 20 that is not present on the US hardware.
T-Mobile recently acquired a lot of low band spectrum that is supposed to improve reception inside buildings. They say that the T-mobile phones that will be able to take advantage of this spectrum will only be available later this year.
How does it work with spectrum and unlocked non-carrier specific or international versions? Are they compatible with low band spectrum? How can one find out?
I believe it's the 600mhz spectrum and V20 I don't think has the right antenna to use it. As far as I know not even The s8 has it

Most likely you're thinking of band B12/700MHz. From checking that site, many of the LGE V20s include that band (both US996 and H918).
No idea what band is gonna be used but I did read about T-Mobile acquiring the 600Mhz spectrum. Unfortunately our v20s won't be compatible. More than likely will only incorporate phones made later this year.

We will not be able to make use of 600mhz spectrum on any device "To say the least" older then the Note 8 "Presumably the first phone to have 600mhz capable hardware in the coming months"
I find it strange that no V20 is able to utilize 600 MHz spectrum. It was my understanding that until now, other carriers such as ATT did have 600 MHz spectrum. It was just T-Mobile that was deficient. So should not a non-carrier specific phone, or an international model have hardware to use it?
