Hello all,
Ever since upgrading from android 4.3 to 4.4.2, my battery life on s4 has been significantly draining a lot. I have read threads on the internet about this similar issue but I am asking the experts here to give possible workarounds if there are any. I have turned off all the possible battery draining settings (including bluetooth, NFC, Motion gestures, air view, and all those fancy stuff from Samsung) and use the only things I need (such as WiFi, Mobile Data, Auto Brightness). I occasionally turn on "Sync" to check emails but leave it off most of the time. I have root btw, if that helps. I am posting my battery stat of a typical day of my phone disconnecting from the charger at 8 a.m. and surviving without a single charge to 10 p.m. Sometimes it will run out of juice even before 10, but I can deal with it. I just want to know what is causing this such battery drain on my phone when it was perfectly fine before the upgrade. Some people said that its the OS problem which Google is working on to improve, like android 4.4.4, and if anyone knows when that upgrade will be released to GS4 Verizon variant, that would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Disable the apps that you dont use. Like PlayBooks and stuff...might help if you dont want to try custom roms.
Plus did you wipe data after your upgrade? It is a must (kind of)
Press Thanks if I helped

some people have 2 days on there phone with 5-6 hours screen on.
i only have wifi on and all the other stuff like location services and bluetoot etc, is turned off
can somebody please help me so i can use this phone like it should be
The latest update has improved battery life...
Sent from my SM-G900H using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
1 install Android Assistant, search for it on Google play
2 check what apps are using the most Cpu time
3 decide what you need and what you can uninstall (careful).
Mind you, some apps may not appear in the list and be often using cpu time anyway.
In addition, try the app 'Greenify', it can help a lot in saving cpu time and energy, if you learn how to.use it.
Also (only for rooted devices) use Autorun manager or a similar app to select apps you want to prevent from starting at boot.
Hi
I will try tht thanks.
When i look with gsam the android(os kernel) is at 82%!
i think that causes the battery drain right now but dont know how to fix it
Hello
Right now i have this when i got it of the charger. and i didnt do anything with the screen so its less that one minute of screen on time.
I think its pretty bad

I had this same issue. Mine was overheating when i used any app and sucking up battery life like crazy. Yesterday I did a factory reset, reloaded my apps, and installed the latest firmware update (NF6). So far everything seems to be back to normal. No more overheating and no extreme battery use/drain.
oh ok.
I only have the battery drain but no overheating yet
But isnt it to quick to putt it back in factory reset since i only have it for like 3 days
Hi guys,
I have SM-N900 Note 3 and was worried about the battery life.
I factory reset it and only signed in with my Gmail account.
I left it for 7 hours at night, and the battery has drained from 100% to 93%.
Is it normal? I always thought Note has much better battery life and without nothing running in the background it should drain like 1%-2% over night.
what do you think?
(running stock Samsung firmware, 4.4.2. no SD card)
Thanks
If all working well my Note 3 would drain about 2 % overnight, (thats on wifi with BT, GPS on, no power save, no blocking of any type), anything above 5% I usually start looking for the cause. But to be honest with original 4.3 I rarely had to look, since I updated to 4.42 it's all over the place from as high as 20% to as low as 2 % and I can't pinpoint the cause, which drives me insane. ATM it's running about 4-5%, which I'm not too happy about and if it get's any worse I will start deleting everything until I get this phone under control. I have couple chinese tablets, where inside the settings there is a menu where you can stop programs from start at the boot up time, I search everywhere and I can't find anything like that on the Note, but since I'm rooted I can freeze or delete stuff, maybe not the best solution but it works.

thanks for sharing!
woah, so many crossed data about your %.
and yeah - since you're rooted, you can install Xposed and install BootManager module, so you can see which apps are running from the boot.

greenfiy is the best software for us
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155737
2% overnight - 7 hours - for me. Data on, no sync at all, weather widget update every 30 minutes, KK, Faux kernel.
0% - If I turn on Powersave when Screen Off in Performance Profile(Xposed Module). It is amazing with of course a slight delay when turning it on. [Around 8hrs]
1-2% - Depending if my network is stable. Wifi-on. Zooper Widget not greenified. [Around 8hrs]
Hi! It is a first for me to post a thread here at XDA. I really need your help regarding this battery issue on my S7 Edge Exynos (Factory-Unlocked). The first time I got this device I was very impressed the camera, screen and most specially the battery life - hands down for this device. But I had an issue on my first device and the Samsung Service was able to replace it - the first device got a stuck pixel and then the replacement unit got another issue, another pixel problem. So, Samsung Service did is to replace the screen, actually they replace most of it to make it short they only transfer the internals from another new phone - the motherboard, camera, and battery even the back panel is new. Then after I got the unit and updated the OS to Marshmallow 6.0.1. April 2, 2016 security patch level I notice that it drains battery faster that the first time I got the device. I guess a 8-10% per hour when using it on LTE, locations off, sync off, auto-brightness on. Then what I did is visit Samsung Sevice to let them check the device, they hooked it up on their pc and run a diagnostic test and no battery problem found. I was wondering if my battery usage is normal. I was not a techy guy but I just compared it before it got fixed from 100% to 99% it drains I guess for 2-3 minutes and a screen time is 3-4 hours max and 15 hours on battery. Really appreciate your help! Thank you! By the way the apps I regularly use are facebook, instagram, twitter, social messaging apps and most of the time web browsing on chrome.
Paragraphing? Search? Did you try? Follow the links, read...
Yes been trying to search regarding this issue and found some but does not directly answer the issue on my device. Anyway thanks.
Facebook is a well known battery drainer, maybe install GSam from the play store and monitor what is draining the battery the most.
Okay will take note on that. Thanks alot!
I had really crappy battery lifetime and it drained juice like hell! I made sure wifi and bluetooth was off when sleeping(screen off). Tried every guide ive found but newer got to the root of the draining problem.
I did an factory reset and the problem was GONE. Now I have 1,8%/hour drain with normal usage included bluetooth headset connected, and 50% brightness with batterysaving enabled. kept 100% after unplugging from fastcharging for 1hour without usage.
If u struggle, try a factory reset! its simple, and if u have backup it doesnt take long to recover!

Look at your firmware version. If it ends in APD1 or higher, then battery drain is a known issue that can only be fixed by downgrading to APC8 or lower. In battery stats, if Android System has double digit (12%+) drain then you have APD1 or higher and the known battery drain issue.
Okay thank you! really appreciate your advices.
Hi there, for the last week or so, with no new apps being downloaded prior to issue, I have noticed a significant battery drain by Android OS (39%) and inside it showed incredible Keep awake time of 16h 50m (though the phone screen is off). For reference, the screen time (25% battery usage) so far is 1h 31m. I have installed and given root access to GSam Battery Monitor (its root companion is activated too). The program indicates that Kernal (Android OS) is taking up my space but I was hoping instead it would be able to give the direct app that is eating up my battery. I have tried restarting it twice and after letting the battery run off completely and fully charging it before turning it back on.... no dice.
S4 - SGH-i337M (jfltecan/jflte)... verified root... Android 4.4.2

Kernal: 3.4.82-KT-SGS4-gb0a91ad
Recovery is via TWRP
I know there may be suggestions to turn off GPS, WiFi, etc, etc... but I'd rather not do that due to the fact the phone life was absolutely fine w/ them on... I'd like to fix the root of the problem instead of working around it. I haven't made any changes to phone settings for a month. Reformat is a last resort but want to exhaust options prior to.
Any help appreciated, thanks.
It seems that the only way to have figured it out is by disabling individual apps and see if there is any improvement in battery life and drop in Android OS wake time and battery use.... After checking the 4th app of possibility, it seems like KiK was the culprit. Just going to remove the app as I haven't used it much. Maybe an update for the app occurred causing this to happen. One work around for those who want to keep the app that's causing the issue and minimize the battery drain, you could just go to the app's system settings and do a Force Stop and the program will be off and then turn the app back on whenever you need it and then turn it off again via Force Stop. It's a app issue, not anything you can really do about it except downgrade or uninstall the app.

Hello
So I got a refurbished Galaxy S5 about a month ago, it was working just fine and all, but then lately something has been literally grinding my gear, the battery drains about 10% each night (about 7 hours) it just annoys me so much, I've done so many tests, and I found out that the WIFI was the culprit, I disabled every single option and feature that the WIFI comes with, turned off locations, gps, basically anything that uses data, but in vain, I even have this problem on safe mode, I looked everywhere on the internet, I don't know how to solve this problem, the only workarround this is to disable the wifi while asleep, then I only lose about 1 to 2% of battery life, this problem is giving me headaches, please help, I even updated my phone from 5.0 to 6.1.0 but no difference.
Adtional info: model SM-G900F
Rom: G900FXXU1CQB1 (stock rom) It came with the a hong kong rom so I just flashed it back to MAT one
Idk I'm just so lost, and I know I made so many mistakes in this post, I can't care less, I'm writing it while very sleepy and tired, just, help, please.
thanks in advance
Tons of people saw the post and zero of them replied... oof, sounds like a deja vu
Mine does drain more with any kind of Internet enabled as well. Just turn off data when you're sleeping. Or get an automation app like Tasker which does it for you.
Though I used to have a J1 and I used to keep wifi on all the time, but it didn't drain as much, how come?

Dude ,what you want ,expect more (1>2% lost in standby for 7 hours)? I don't understand you !?!
You want WiFi and data always on ? Why ? You use Facebook when you sleep ? I'm lost....you scare me dude !!!
I'm not using Facebook or anything, I'm not sure if it's just me having super high standards, but I used to lose only about 3 to 4% when idle with the wifi on for like 6 hours, that's why I made this post
