Hi,
I woke this morning to 19% charge after 6 hours.
When I try to charge it through the mains whilst turned off, it just vibrates every 2 seconds and shows a line across the screen as though something was going to show but stopped. Kind of thing you would see with a knackered screen.
Whilst I type this, I keep getting USB device not recognised as it connects and disconnects however the charge is still showing but doesnt seem to be putting anything into the phone.
The phone knows the charger is in, and shows but nothing is going in.Battery drain..
Charge only via Qi charger!!
PC also didnt see phone..
Try carefully cleaning the USB port with a needle or toothpick (under the USB pin as well!). Might be something metallic in there interfering with the connection.
I'm assuming other USB chargers and cables also do not work?

Try the cleaning, if that doesn't help try cleaning the contact points on the battery and its slot with a bit of denaturated alcohol and a cotton swap.(for sale in any drugstore).
If that doesn't help either, and you have one within reach, try another battery. And if that doesn't help, it's likely the motherboard.

I just posted on the accessories forum about my experience with the Brodit active holder that I purchased. Mounted it in my car, and plugged the brodit charger in. Fuse in car charger went bang (not literally). Now I know it's not my power adapter in the car, as I've been using another JasJar charger and GPS charger for ages, so I went to Halfords and bought some replacement fuses. Tried them in the charger. Every one died too instantly.
I assumed the charger must be faulty, and arranged to send the holder back to Clove to replace it. It wasn't until I plugged my JasJar into the normal charger last night that I discovered it was no longer charging at all. I tried unplugging and replugging. I tried using the USB cable in my pc. Nothing works. Even the other car charger won't charge it any more.
I'm guessing I now have to send my JasJar to HTC for repairs and be without it for a couple of weeks. I'm not too happy about it though, and thought I would ask here first if this has happened to anyone else and if there might be a way to get it charging again without having to send it away.
i had a similar problem, i went to france with a charger that had a changable head, with pins for the different countries on click in plates, and on the top was a usb socket.
i took a standard usb to mini usb cable with me figuring this is a usb charger like the one that came with my phone but no, i couldnt get it charging, then after 12 hrs of it refusing, it eventually kicked back in, i sussed you had to use it like plugging it into a pc, ie, it turn it off, wait, then plug it in. bingo it started charging again.
its working like activesync, right pain, shoulda just taken me charger and a mains convrter
sorry it doesent really help but its poss related

similar problem. but i change the port miniusb. 30 dolares in mexico.
no problem, is easy. and now is working ok.
Well I've sent it in for repairs now. Couldn't get the thing to charge.
this forum is amazing...if there is an information available, you can bet it you can find it here...:
thanks carnivor: I had the same problem, but just was not smart enough to get the idea to shut it off and then on...with your help i solved the problem...i still don't get it, why it did charge with the original charger or with the usb cable from the pc and not with the generic usb charger and that same cable....and actually: it depended on the ROM installed: with the qtek rom it did not matter, with the t-mobile it did..
anyway: now it works. thanks!
I notice that the power lead is thinner than a usb lead so there may be less wires inside, ie 2 + ground instead of 4 + ground, the lack of TX and RX connections may well be what causes it. Im not going to hack into the charger cable just yet to find that out.
Intresting about the rom versions changing the fact if you can have device on before sync or not. Im not going to reflash now with an update around the corner im just going to wait for that.

yes, but interestingly it also doesn't work with the same cable that syncs and charges from the pc, when this cable is connected to the lighter or the generic USB charger...so the mess starts already in the charger.
but bottomline: as long as there's a workaround...
Q: Suddenly my car charger (cigarette lighter plugged) is not working anymore. After 5 mins. my device stops charging..... is there anybody having the same problem and knows how to solve it?
If it's after a period of time maybe a battery contact issue?

If you've already read the sticky posts relating to car chargers and your (mystery brand) charger isn't one of those, then maybe your phones battery terminals and connectors need careful cleaning with a cotton bud moistened with contact cleaner or IPA. I had a problem with my mains charger ceasing to charge my TyTN II after a minute or two a long time ago and after cleaning as described, the problem went away. Be sure not to spray the contact cleaner or IPA onto the phone or battery, only the cotton bud/Q-tip and then gently rub that on the spring contacts and battery terminals. How does charging via mains adapter or PC USB port go?

It still could be a battery contact issue as voltages may differ slightly when using the car charger compared to the other forms of charging. As an example if the Kaiser is set to stop charging when the supply voltage drops below a certain value and the car chargers voltage is lower to start with (and fluctuates with normal driving/electrical usage) then that may explain things. It's well worth doing this cleaning every so often anyway as a matter of course so give it a try and see what happens.
Additionally, could heat be a factor eg if it's sitting on a hot dash or near heater vents (the device is designed to not recharge above certain temperatures)?

Thanks for the advice, i will give it a try
if you have any adapters that allow for another usb input, nice a headphone adapter, or the HTC Multifunction Audio Cable YC A300, a ycable or anything with a USB in, try that first.
if that doesn't work, take the unit into your retailer and they will give you a new (or refurbed) unit, as your USB port may have a pin or two out of whack.
This may be weird, but my tilt used to charge just fine from most USB chargers(car, AC, usb cords). One fine day it quit charging off most chargers except the official AC charger from AT&T. I tried to fiddle with the USB pins inside as one looked like it might be a bit bent/damaged. No luck.
However, yesterday I noticed that My Settings->System->Power->Advanced settings page had following option checked:
'When device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC'.
Once I unchecked it, it started charging of PC USB cables (obviously), but strangely enough also charging from my car charger(s). Hope this works out for you or someone else...

It is probably because your normal USB pin 4 and 5 in the cable of your other chargers are not shorted to signal that there is no data connection. So your phone thinks it is connected to a PC (or a device which might send it data), hence not charging the battery according to that setting
I have a similar infuriating problem, i have had a MDA VArio III for over a year now, had an issue with my last one and had a replacement issued in October. Now i have used the Brodit active holder (ciggy lighter version) since day one over a year ago and wit the new MDA as well. now all of a sudden phone will not charge in the holder, borrowed a friends active cradle still no charge, used a no brand usb ciggy ligther charger and charges fine!!!!
When phoe n is placed in the holder orange charging light comes on but phone does not charge and the light goes out 5 mins later!!!

thanks

Problem solved - Pin 5 on my phone was ever so slightly out of alignment, bent back into place and all is now well! strange it only affected the brodit holders, nothing else!
Car charger failure explained
I also experienced this same problem and actually broke my phones mini usb plug in frustration at lack of charging. Got it fixed again though
The reason for this problem has become apparent since my phone was repaired. In your car, like my car when the heater is switched on it will gradually heat up the cigarette lighter socket. My charger cable like yours has a thermal safety circuit built into it. So when the ciggy socket heats up the heat is transferred to the charger plug and breaks the elec charging circuit. You might see me driving around London with my charger plug hanging out of my window (to cool it down) on a Winter's day!!! Honk if you do.
The solution would be a cheaper charger without the thermal circuit built in. Go into Maplins or PC World and ask them for that..... They dont know what your talking about, because I have already tried.......! Good luck
You just need to make sure to enable your phone to charge when connected to PC.
Start->Setting->System->Power->
UN-CHECK the box that said "When device is turned on, DO NOT CHARGE the battery when connected to PC"
It is really weird. When the battery was low yesterday, I plugged the phone into a wall charger and found that it was not recharged. And then I plugged it into the USB port of my computer, it was not recharged either. The computer also failed to recognize a new device was plugged in.
I tried different computers and different cable. No recharge. No recognition. At first, I thought the battery must be dead. But this cannot explain why the computer did not communicate with the phone. So does it mean the micro-USB port in my HD2 was dead?
The only thing I did recently was to install the latest Chucky Rom. Is it a bug from the rom?
Any help is highly appreciated!!!
its a cgonfig you can change in the settings menu, start, settings, in my phone then the menu on the lowest level, about the phone, battery, there you can mark if you want to charge while connected to the computer, why its not found, i dont know, but know you can charge

The OP mentioned he can't charge when connected to the WALL charger, so changing the "Charge when connected to PC" option wont fix the fact he can't charge it thrue the wall i'm afraid.
You said you installed a new ROM lately? Maybe revert back to the previous rom or a stockrom to test? If this doesn't work theres a big chance your USB port might be broken... (or a defect charger, but since it doesn't get recognised on the PC aswell i'm a bit afraid it might be your USB port on your device)
doesnt sound like a rom issue since charging happens even if the phone is switched off, so its not handled by the rom. could be a repair job... you can get cradles of ebay that have a battery slot for charging spare batterries. That wayt you can flash wait you need cable working to go back to stock spl... doh!
does anyone know why my hd2 wont turn on unless plugged in and all it does is reset at the "stick together" screen? i was recently stuck at the "this concludes your beta" screen.. but after i hard reseted it.. it kept doing this.. please help!
check your battery

Have a look in the usb socket on your phone. There should be what looks like a piece of plastic(contact strip), sticking up in the middle of the socket. If this is not there, you have broken the usb socket and will need a new one.
If it is there, is it leaning over to one side (no gap between it and metal socket)? If yes, very carfully try to move it away from side.
If contact plate is there, with a wooden toothpick (do not use anything metal or hard plastic), wipe over contacts, as these sockets tends to fill with dust and lint from pocket.

Thanks for your input. I tried all the methods you mentioned but no luck. The phone is not charged. So I guest the USB charging socket was broken ...
So for HD2 owners, be care of your usb charging socket. It might be very fragile.
Make sure the battery pins in the phone aren't bent. If the conracts aren't good you won't be able to recharge. or so I've heard.
I had the same problem
The only thing that help me was doing a hard reset. I tried to charge it with different chargers, different comp. At one point I was thinking to bring it back to tmobile, but luckily the hard reset did the job. One other thing, I was not able to do the reset by holding down the buttons, I had to do it from settings->security->factory reset and enter 1234. Good luck
I had this very same or similar problem yesterday. I thought I had killed it with a rom update but it turns out I had somehow managed to bend the middle pin on the battery terminals. it would still turn on on but would not charge at all & battery was just draining. When plugged into USB or wall socket it would not show the plug symbol it just showed battery as 100%. once I straightened the middle pin up all was great again.
how did you streighten the middle pin in the usb port i can hardly see anything down there

Suddenly my Galaxy S5 doesnt want to charge on the wall. When I plug it in, it shows the bolt sign, then it start vibrating every 2 seconds. I tried changing the cable, the charging box, the location, and still no luck. Then I tried to connect it to my laptop and it worked, it works on my laptop even tho now it doesnt recognize it. So I think its not my charge port, cause it works charging it in my laptop. Its not the battery, i have 3 and I tried with all of them. I tried the smack method with the power buttom and no luck.. what can I do?

i had a similar prob, see if phones usb port is dirty/corroded or has bent pins.
i bought my s5 used thinking i had to swap out the usb port
i cleaned mine, battery removed, after cleaning mine out w/a steel dental pick, exfine sandpaper on the pins, and tissue dipped alcohol w/toothpick and/or dental pick i got it working again 99% of the time, b4 my endeavor it was only working 5% of the time.
start w/just using a toothpick or something not metal to clean it out and even the alcohol method and see if it improves.

does the dashcharge take some wiggling to activate? @hamzah93 @KaszasM it basically means there is lots of lint in the USB-C port. USB C is known for that. Use toothpick with the sharp edge to rub inside the USB-C port to remove the lint. keep going at it for sometime as the lint is really stubborn. i had to use a safety pin and rub constantly for 2-3 minutes to get the lint out. however using metal is not suggested until you know what you're doing.

most of the times its just the connector , i changed a few already ,
maybe he didn't placed well by the change or it's already **** product.
you must push all the way down once i even needed to polish the edge of the usb too, that it matches into the backcover.
in my case as i made from my phone in a hot moment a 1 + "fold" a needed to change beside the battery display backcover, even the smd connector on the board .
but all if them is still fine even the last wich i mentioned in the first post above , now with the new smd ?
take your phone to pieces and free the usb port and try your charger / even better any usb otg.
if it works the trouble is 100% that u must push "down" in the backcover let the red isolation ring dissaper in the cover , if not worked with "free" usbport order 1 more
I changed the connector many times
I ordered one more flex cable and dashboard
I will chang it will replay
Thank u
i had the same issue. i just cleaned the charging port with some water ( i took the risk as it is splash proof) and a cloth and its even dash charging now. But do it at your own risk. i do this often when the problem occurs again.
