WARNING: You REALLY need to UNDERSTAND and read EVERYTHING or you MAY brick your phone!
IF YOU HAVE NOT UNLOCKED, THIS BUILD WILL PERMANENTLY PREVENT YOU FROM DOING SO. STOP NOW and GO UNLOCK!
Purpose of this thread:
To get you, the locked or unlocked RAZR HD xt926 owner, from any version to 4.4.2 (KDA20.62-15.1).
Things you will need:
FXZ KDA20.62-15.1 thanks @stras1234 as always!
Instructions:
Use the RSD Flasher with KEEP DATA to flash this on your phone with RSD.
OR
Use the House of Moto with KEEP DATA to flash this to your phone with fastboot.
OR
Use RSD Lite to flash it, but, you will lose data unless you modify the XML file manually.
This will get you a clean OTA install. You will lose root.
Thanks, I was looking for the fxz.
Guess I am a n00b how do you flash this?

I flashed the fxz, but it now says my Android version is 4.4, not 4.4.2. Is there a reason for the downgrade The System version is now '19.5.3.obake_verizon.Verizon.ens.US'. Thanks.
Um what? That system version is for a Droid maxx. This FXZ is for the razr hd. There is no possible way you flashed this FXZ on a razr hd and ended up with what you're saying.

Take a look at it yourself.
That didn't come from this FXZ. What, EXACTLY, did you flash?
I flashed 'VZW_XT926_4.4.2-KDA20.62-15.1_1FF.xml' using your utility with the KEEP DATA option.
I don't know what to say. I for sure didn't hunt around for a Maxx fxz and I certainly don't have a copy of one sitting around on my PC. I downloaded the .zip you posted above and used your utility to flash it. Afterwards I flashed dhacker's CWM (v6.0.4.9) and SU (UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip). That is it. I did nothing else.
that screen shot made me lol
other than the obvious, correct phone, wrong version, the build date is funny too.
how the f did that even boot lol

im working on flashing this now to verify the file and will report back soon.
I've already had someone verify the FXZ in my download link and send me a screen shot of it. It doesn't look like yours so I really don't know what to tell you. There is no way possible that the FXZ I posted has anything that shows obake in it as that's a COMPLETELY different device. This is the xt926 RAZR HD and RAZR HD MAXX. It's not the Droid Maxx which is what the screen shot you posted shows. Post a copy of your swdl.txt file from the RSD flash. You'll find it in your RSD install folder.

That's nice. Doesn't give me the information I asked for. You keep claiming that flashing the FXZ in the OP is what did this to your phone, and I keep telling you that's not possible and has been confirmed for me by several people at this point. Telling me what's in the screen shot doesn't really solve the problem. I can make that screen shot say anything I want. Doesn't mean the information is accurate.

I got a Droid Razr M for an upgrade, Worked great so i rooted it, Still worked great all that day, then i went to sleep and when i woke and the WiFi would not work!
The toggle switch turned a darker gray, When i tap it it turns on then in a split second turns back off.
I have done a Factory Data Reset and then i did a hard reset and then i wiped the hole thing out and re flashed it to its original state. Still would not work!
So as a last resort contact Motorola for support and they tell me that i had rooted my device and there is nothing they can do. I didn't say anything about rooting it so they must be logging all users data. (Invasion of Privacy?)
So i am back here again, Not being able to use WiFi, On a 2GB/M plan. f%$king peace of $#!+.
Nothing else is bad! Its just the wifi!?

It is probably your fault. A broken radio is your burden why do you think they do not want you rooting? The radio partition can get borked very easily. You need to renew it.

Ok, SaturnsVoid... so, first, sorry to hear about the problem. Motorola/VZ is giving you BS... rooting won't break your WiFi unless you did something or installed something that would...
What's your current system version?
Have you taken any OTAs since you had it? If not, you may still be able to unlock.
Also, may want to try using WiFi Connection Fixer on the Play Store (requires root...)
If those don't work, try PMing me... I can help you work it out...

Well, it looks like Android is pawning you.
Motofail was the root exploit for the 4.1.1 version and it didn't unlock the bootloader. Motopocalypse was the only method to unlock the BL and, according the date you posted from your fastboot screen, you're on the May OTA that blocks the BL unlock. You really need to stop using random tools and start reading before you do something. Also, you can't flash CM11 with SS. Utility 1.20 is the correct utility to use for your system version. Are you sure you're using the 1.20 Utility? That's the only reason I can see that you're getting the fail. Did you try to flash the newer OTA at any point?

Don't take it personally, it's just a little bit of sarcasm. I know it can get lost through the internet.
With that being said. I reread thread and saw that date again. Utility 1.20 was for the OTA prior to that, so that's why you're probably running into issues. Sorry, you can slap me because I told you wrong in the post after yours where you talked about using 1.20. Matt never updated a utility to reflect the newest OTA. As for CM11, it specifically states on the CM website that you need an unlocked bootloader:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Xt907_Info
CM was designed for SS on the Razr because the Razr never had an unlockable BL:

Hey man i see you bricked your phone no worries i'll help you out i've done it myself.
so you're going to need
motorola drivers
RSD lite lastest version
4.1.2 xml file for razr m ( just google search it)
and patience
ok so
I guess you know how to put your razr m in fastboot mood if not you power your device off and hold the power , vol - and sorta click it multple times. until it brings you to the screen. then you should be able to run rsd lite and flash the 4.1.2 xml file would could be found with a single google search. so flashing firmware is pretty easy.. it should be a breeze. after that just leave your phone as it is. motorola will be releasing the 4.4 update swoon hopefully so i would just wait.
hope this was semi helpful

Someone quoted me but for you.
I was using original stock 4.1.1 version + http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166542&highlight=98+18+94 to use xt907 on t-mobile.
Yesterday, I used RSD to restore the 4.1.1 version and OTAed to the latest 98.30.1.XT907.Verizon ROM. Then the t-mobile sim does not work any more, and the original method does not work.
Then I tried to downgrade 4.1.1 version using RSD, and failed. Then I'm stuck in the fastboot mode...
My question is:
1. Is there a way that I can get out of fastboot mode? Which rom should I use in RSD to restore?
2. Is there a way that I can downgrade to earlier version?
3. Is there a way that I can still use t-mobile sim card?
Thanks
You might be able to use the droid razr m utility but I'm no expert in it. I've just dabbled around in all of this. Wait for some insight from Rikrong or someone of the sort.

Poppers, you're on point. However, there's no Razr M utility for the latest update. You can use House of Moto from DroidRzr or flash the latest OTA with RSD.
Daniel, since you updated to .1, you can't downgrade. Just grab the last FXZ from SBF or use House of Moto to clear the fastboot fail. If your battery is low, you need to make sure it's charged before fastbooting.

Thanks RikRong! I managed to use house of moto to reset the system to the latest VRZ_XT907_9.8.1Q-94-1. Now the phone works. But I still cannot use t-mobile sim card. And the original method described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166542&highlight=98+18+94 does not work on the latest ROM.
Any idea if there is a way that I can use t-mobile on it? Or my best bet is to sell it on craigslist?
Thanks,
Dehao

That method should work, though I don't know much about it. You might want to post in the thread. You should be able to get the phone to work on T-Mobile.
I'm on 98.30.1 and on T-Mobile. I used that tutorial also.

I managed to modify a turbo system image file to include tethering on an unlimited data plan. Download it here. Use with Mofo root. This has been confirmed to work for several people, but others are reporting problems. Your mileage may vary.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF IT BRICKS YOUR PHONE, SETS YOUR HOUSE ON FIRE, EATS YOUR CAT ETC.
Thanks to @aFancyTickler for helping me determine what files to modify.

I'm pretty sure the way I did it if you install xposed installer it should read xposed as installed. You will not be able to install any modules due to write protection. Again no guarantees.
I'm going to be busy for the next few hours. If this is broken you'll have to wait a bit. For your information all I've done is modify the build.prop to include provisioning (for wifi tether) and add the gravitybox app to system apps. I also installed what I believe is the correct file for xposed framework to work. Even if it doesn't the phone should still boot. No promises. Good luck to anyone who chooses to install

I managed to modify a turbo system image file to HOPEFULLY include tethering. This image also potentially has gravitybox baked in if I did everything right, but the wifi tether is much more likely to work because I actually know how that's supposed to work. NO GUARANTEES AS TO EITHER. I DO NOT YET HAVE ACCESS TO A ROOTED TURBO. If you want to test this sucker out, go here. Use with Mofo root.

Then I'll be attempting this. Currently downloading as we speak. Quick question, why is this image (3.3 GB), so much larger than the factory image (1.4 GB)?

If you are rooted and bootloader unlocked then you do not need to make a system image file you can flash or make roms.

I know but I have a developer edition and not everyone has one. I want to make a rooted system image, then relock my bootloader and see if this method will work to provide root for those who do not have developer editions.

Ok just a heads up was able to restore phone with original rooted image file
yeah i think the problem may be with the xposed app_process. untill i get my linux all settup , @Ekkoria can just add the modified build prop with tethering to the file for now untill i figure out how to add xposed properly
I am going to watch this thread. I am happy with the turbo other than not being able to tether.
Thx for the development!
A friend of mine gave me an S8 phone. Its reset and wiped clean. I was trying to set it up but it requires his old gmail account and password to get in to. The problem is, it won't take his password. He emailed google about it and he's waiting to see if they will recover his account on it. He won't be using the phone anymore as he has a new one. I'd like to use it as I have an S7 and this one has double the storage space that mine has.
If they can't recover his account, I want to flash the memory and start over. I've been a computer tech for 20 years so I know all about flashing the BIOS and how that can brick it. My question is, since I can't get into the system of the phone and see what the version of the firmware is, how confident can I rely on the back of the phone where it says SM-G950U? I've read that even though its branded that way on the back, it doesn't necessarily follow that it will show that in the system. I've downloaded the newest firmware I can find for it, SM-G950U_201910251442240_c0osvhilm6_fac from Updato and will use Odin to flash it with.
This was used on Straight Talk and has Tracfone branding on the startup.

Am I missing something. You say this is for his device. You linked s8 active stuff to a user that has a. 950u. This is not for his device. Luckily Odin don't allow flashing of wrong firmwares. You just bricked a guy's phone.

My mistake, I knew what phone he had I mean it's clearly written in the description. It looks like I posted the wrong link ACCIDENTLY. Nobody's phone was bricked. Well mistake made and valuable lesson learned. As far as the way you came at me questioning me if this is for guys device is pathetic to say the least. How you gonna ask that when it clearly says that. If this is what XDA is all about you know just read your response to my mistake, I won't be part of it. I'm about helping people and not smashing them when they make a mistake. Clearly you feel it's necessary to talk to people like that. What's that say about you?

You know I've been sitting here thinking about this. And it's TRUE 100% most of the bricks and bricking does happen on the locked us devices. Me myself even have a semi bricked one just sitting here to no avail of fixing hours and hours spent. They are a lot more finicky it seems than a unlocked bootloader ???
I'm sorry but I'm still having trouble getting this to work. I've tried the combo file and putting the extracted file in the AP section, and while that works, the phone just goes into a loop from the Factory Binary to that Settings screen and once its rebooted, it all starts again. What am I doing wrong? I've reset it to factory data several times.
Phone is an S8 64GB SM-G950U used on Straight Talk. Has Tracfone branding on screen when booted.
