[Q] Jolla Sailfish OS for Nexus 7 3g (Tilapia) ? - Sailfish General

Is there a port of Sailfish OS to Nexus 7 3G (tilapia) model?
There is a ready built alpha image for Nexus 7 wifi (grouper).
Sailfish OS for Nexus 7 wifi by user junnuvi
The alpha version for grouper refused to boot on my Nexus 7 tilapia, while trying it with MultiROM. The installation went succesfully. First CyanogenMod Android and then Sailfish image, but when trying to boot the screen got stuck at Google logo.
Marko on the other hand has a detailed list of instructions in his blog to build a Sailfish OS image to Nexus 7 grouper. I tried to follow the instructions a couple of times but did not succeed. I am too beginner at compiling programs and there are too many variables to adjust when you really don't know what you are doing.

You can flash a grouper version of twrp to a tilapia and then install grouper roms but you will lose 3g ability. The process can be reversed.
And then maybe you could run the grouper version of sailfish.

Sorry to say, but no.
I was trying to install grouper version with MultiROM, so that might be the reason for failure.
Installation itself went fine and I did not notice any errors, but booting with Sailfish got still stuck at Google logo. Waited really long (15 minutes) for that google logo to disappear and then rebooted with power button but no luck this time either.

Ubuntu boots to black screen?

-I am using Multirom
-My internal rom is stock 4.2.1
-I also have PA 3.0 installed
- using Kernel w/ kexec-hardboot patch (stock 4.2)
When I install Ubuntu it will go to the boot screen (where it says 'Ubuntu' with the little loading squares flashing) then it eventually just goes black and doesn't respond. Any ideas on this black screen of death? Let me know if you guys have any info, tried to google around but can't seem to find this specific problem.
Haha a nice number of views but looks like nobody knows yet huh?
I've since wiped off ubuntu and tried to install the rom several times. I've downloaded new images, re-applied my kernel, all sorts of crap but it doesn't seem to a make a difference, still the same scenario happens.
Something else I've noticed is that if I wait a while at the blank screen, eventually I hit the power button I will see "ubuntu" flash in the center real quick, then back to blank screen.
I have excat the same behavior in exact the same configuration. Yesterday flashed Multirom to a stock Android 4.2.1, with Ubuntu image nightly from 14-Feb-2013 + kexec4.2.
I see the initial Ubuntu bootscreen which turns black and that's it....
Any ideas are highly welcome.
Im not dual booting and the same thing is happening. I tried a new download from today with no luck.

Just re-installed 4.2.2 and got that back working. Tried to re-flash Ubuntu from scratch and same thing.... Fade 2 Black
Same here...
I'm also having this same problem. I've just bought my nexus, my first android device to help out with Ubuntu dev but cannot get it to load. 4.2.1 stock ROM with kexec 4.2 and multirom. It could be me doing something stupid but have reinstalled Ubuntu several times with no joy.
Still, first post here and good to meet you all. Looking forwards to getting all this moving. Exciting times

Same here. Ubuntu used to work in an earlier version (build of 12 Feb or 13 Feb), with Launcher crashes very often. Then, begging from the 14 Feb build, ubuntu just boot into black screen. Retried many times, changed MultiROM version ... just doesn't work, always end in black screen.
Hmmmm, is it just users with multiboot or can people not boot in running native? I guess I'll try again in a day or two and see if anything has changed. I'll update if I have any success or hear anything.

Nope. I am trying native install with no multiboot and I just get black screen.
I am performing manual install each time..has anyone done the Ubuntu based auto install?
Same problem here...
I get the Ubuntu animation with the red and white balls animating then the screen goes black and nothing...I have let it sit for 30 mins.
Stock rooted 4.2.2 with a37 M Kernel
Same problem as OP
I have the same problem as the OP
Nexus 7 32g wifi only
Multirom v8
Android 4.2.1
kernal_kexec_42-2
Using the 15 Feb 2013 build
Does anyone know where I could get a hold of an older build to see if that solves the problem?
Edit: Is everyone here using a recent build of ubuntu?

Same problem here... very sadly. Stays black after see logo some seconds. I will test n7-ubuntu-16gb.2012.10.26.tar.xz now...
Update: Black screen has been confirmed by the devs and its under the class of "critical", I bet it will be all sorted soon.

Sorry I miss read what he meant. We need to find the build 3 days ago (13/02/13) which isn't affected, only if someone has it by chance.
Nice, glad to see I am not alone at least. Thanks so much for all the info thus far guys.

EDIT: Probably best if we move over to this thread to discuss this issue now.
Hm ... some people has reported that the latest images is now working normally. But I am using the 30-01-13 image and it works just fine as well. I just want to know whether it makes any difference if I issue an upgrade via sudo apt-get update && suso apt-get dist-upgrate comparing to flashing the latest working image. Anyone knows about that?
I should have posted behind the MultiROM thread in the Nexus 7 Original Development forum, but I don't yet have right to post there.

Dual Booting Nexus 10?

I have not been able to find any threads for the Nexus 10, but I was wondering if it were possible to dual boot the Nexus10?
My goal is to try and install both Android and Ubuntu Touch preview on my nexus 10 tablet so I could try out Ubuntu touch without losing all of my android functionality.
Are there any resources on how to do this and has anyone ever attempted to do dual booting on the Nexus 10.

I found MultiROM for the nexus 7, which seems to work exact how I wanted, even supporting booting from otg cable. However, there was no release for Nexus 10, or planned, and there was one thread asking about its existence on the Nexus 10 but was locked by a moderator for being in the wrong sub forum.

Yes it mostly has to do with kernel and recovery but rom must also be edited to work on dual boot. On my xperia play I can boot up to 4 ROMs using turbo kernel. The kernel creates slots on the SD card where the other ROMs are installed. I don't know a lot about how its done. But its very useful to have especially when you have a low ram phone so you could boot different android versions. Now if someone could get that done for nexus 10 it'd be awesome. Cosmicdan is the developer who did it for xplay

Ubuntu Core Linux on Nexus7 (Not Ubuntu Touch)

Do Not follow this thread.
Discovered that my Nexus7 is, in fact, the 2012 model for which I was led to believe, by the, to have been the latest 2013 2nd edition model.
2013 Nexus7, 16GB WiFi Edition
This is a full fledge Ubuntu Linux distro for the Nexus7 Tablet.
I've discovered the following:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Nexus7
I've installed Ubuntu Linux 13.04 on my 2013 WiFi Nexus7 16GB.
So far, seems to work fairly well. Even the onscreen keyboard.
The Nexus7 Boot Image and System Userspace Image can be found at:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/13.04/release/
After installing the automated installer on your Ubuntu Linux computer:
1. Add the attached modified checksum file to your /Downloads/UbuntuNexus7 folder
2. Replace installer script at /usr/bin with attached modified installer script
3. Be sure to remove the .txt from the attached files.
Everything will install smoothly from that point onward.
this only covers Nexus 7 2012, not 2013
I think the Nexus is a perfectly capable device of running Ubuntu or any other distro.. Actually it kinda opens a new sea of possibilities. Imagine compiling a rom on the device itself :b
Linux on Android already has this covered. Check out their website. I have it up and running. The Complete Linux Installer app makes it very easy and provides great instructions.

Well, in all fairness, Linux on Android runs Linux apps on the Android kernel (which is, of course, Linux). That's not quite the same as having a bootable copy of a full distro like Ubuntu. I would think performance on the full install ought to be better. I've run the Linux on Android on the Galaxy Tab 2 quite a bit and it is great, though. Just saying I don't think this is quite the same thing.

To be honest I'd like some pics (or in fact anything that can prove it actually works), I highly doubt the same image that's used on the first N7 will work on the new one too. I just got KitKat and I don't want to break it yet
Is there any screenshots of this?

That resolution matches the original Nexus. Either you're in the wrong forum, or it's fake.
Could you please take a picture of the actual tablet running Ubuntu with a camera so we can verify?
I went and tried this myself (for science ), and I can confirm it doesn't work. It doesn't get past the Google bootloader screen.
Anybody else looking to attempt this should backup their TWRP/CWM backups to their computer, as flashing this completely wipes the tablet.
I learnt that the hard way. Good thing I had nothing important on it.

My Nexus7 was sold to me as the 2013 Second Edition model.
They based the model edition upon the purchase date of September of 2013.
Looking over the specs I just typed from the box, it's the 2012 edition.
I had no idea.

Other OS Roms for NExus 7 2013 (flo)

Hello,
I just got my Nexus 7 2013 tow months ago and it currently have the stock android and 2 Ubuntu Touch installed though MultiRom. Now I'm really interested trying out other OS other than Android. I've tried FireFox OS but it's buggy. I tried to look for Tizen and Jolla no luck. I found linux ROMS like Plasma Active, Ubuntu Desktop 13.04 and Bodha?? but all I see is for Grouper only (Nexus 7 2012). Does anyone here knows sources of any other ROMS that can be installed in Nexus 7 2013 and also supports multirom? Thanks so much
