Locked out of Galaxy S4 using Unlock w/ WiFi - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I have been using Unlock with WiFi on my Galaxy S3 using a 1 letter password with no issues. Please don't judge me for using such a simple password
Anyhow, I now have a Galaxy S4 and just got it all setup last night. Installed Unlock with WiFi, entered my 1 letter for the password, and now I appear to be locked out of my phone.
At the lock screen, when I type just 1 letter and press the return key, it just erases the letter like I didn't type anything. This continues up to 3 characters. If I type 4 or more, then I get a message, Wrong Password. So this tells me the S4 must only recognize 4 or more characters, yet Unlock with WiFi still allows you to enter one 1 character for the password. I have sent an email to the developer, but I was hoping someone from here might be able to shed some light on the matter. I 'm curious why or how this could have happened.
How do I get back into my phone? I have already tried the Android Device Manager, but my phone never receives the new lock. I know this because it allows you to enter a message that will be displayed on the lock screen, and I never receive the message. I also tried AndroidLost but no luck. It apparently thinks my phone is offline and none of the commands sent are successful on my phone.
Also, my phone is rooted if that helps. Just rooted it last night thanks to the help of this forum.
Thanks
Mike

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think any of that is going to work. It either requires a recovery partition to be installed or USB Debugging enabled.
I had USB Debugging on, but after I had everything setup on my phone I turned it off. I didn't install a recovery partition.
I have decided to just reset it and wipe it clean, since it's still like new and I have no data or pictures on it. Though I do dread fine tuning all my settings, reinstalling all my apps and setting everything back up the way I had it.
Anyhow, not sure how you reset the phone though. I thought after you enter the pin code wrong so many times, it will ask you to reset the phone. Anyone know the limit?
When I enter the code wrong after 5x, it tells me to wait 30 seconds, and then tells me a total of how many times I have entered the wrong code. I currently have entered the wrong code 30x and all it says is wait 30 seconds and try again.
Seriously, that sounds like it's going on indefinitely! If so, what can I do at this point?
I'm still waiting to hear back from the developer of the app that contributed to all of this.
Thanks
Mike

[Q] Security PIN turning to password and locking me out

This issue has been addressed and no actual cause has been determined.
My pin lock pad which I usually use is replaced by a keyboard for no reason and my pin doesn't work anymore.
it keeps asking me for a password and after every 5 attempts I get a 30 seconds countdown.
To add insult to injury trying to restart the computer boots me into download mode.
It's very frustrating to say the least. Fortunately I have a twrp backup that I can restore but it's such a waste of time.
Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Useless posts just to raise your post count are all over this forum, seriously if you cant offer anything remotely helpful why post at all? Also put your tongue back in!
OP can you extrapolate how to arrive at the issue and also please state device model, device status etc?
Are you using an application to set/unset your PIN?
I had this happening to me repeatedly, however it was accepting my PIN as the password so was more just annoying that anything else.
After some experimenting I found that it was Secure Settings (setting the PIN) that seemed to be the cause - somehow it was setting the PIN correctly the first time it ran and then subsequently it would switch to password.
I ditched it and instead setup my set/unset PIN via Pebble Locker (also using Wifi and other bluetooth devices to set/unset PIN).
After using it for a few days successfully, it locked once setting a password instead of PIN, and this time my usual PIN failed to unlock it. Luckily it was about 11pm and I knew that it would automatically unlock at about 7am the next day when the wifi was automatically switched back on - so I didn't need to reset or anything (although I got the impression at the time that you could unlock it via going to your google account somehow - but I can't recall the details and may have this entirely wrong).
I setup a Tasker profile so that I'd have a backdoor to disable the PIN by plugging it into power and checking if I'm at home at the time. Not the most secure solution, but hardly wide open either.
I'm having the same issue and it also appears to be a quirk with Secure Settings. Actually locked me out of my phone yesterday, had to return home where I had task to unlock phone in order to get back in.

[Solved] Weird lock-screen issue

Solved (how can I add that to the title?)
Verizon Galaxy S5, rooted and running 4.4.4
I had a weird and unsettling incident today. I had my phone set up for pattern unlock. I pulled my phone from my pocket and it was on a pin unlock screen. I was unable to get it to go back to pattern unlock, even with pulling the battery. As so often happens when I'm ambushed with a password requirement (the old pattern unlock didn't require a pin), I couldn't remember it. I'm sure I'll remember it eventually but I needed to have navigation right then so I had to do the reset, lost some stuff, nothing too important (old factory reset didn't used to wipe the SD so I lost some stuff there too). Mostly annoying but neither here nor there really. I always assume that anything on my phone is volatile.
So that was that. I assumed my phone had pocket-swiped and got caught in a pin fallback. Except I'm playing with my phone now and I'm unable to duplicate the effect. I have a pattern set and a pin behind it but playing with it and getting the pattern wrong doesn't lock me into having to enter the pin. If I get the pattern wrong several times, I get prompted with forgot pattern (which prompts me for my google account info) or backup pin (which prompts me for my pin but allows me to hit the back arrow to go back to the pattern).
If it helps, I did not have encryption on this device. It was not new when I got it so I had performed a factory reset so it should have been in exactly the same state. Can anyone help me understand how I got locked into this "having to enter a pin" state?
[Edit: I just tried enabling the pin lock screen and it is different from the screen that I saw which was more like the "backup pin" screen]
As an additional question, I see there is an option to disable the auto factory reset. If you disable it, what are your options for if you forget your passwords? How would you reset the device?
Edit2: OK, the clue was in there. If the auto factory reset is disabled, you are able to go back and forth between the pattern unlock and the pin unlock. If the auto factory reset is enabled, you jump to the pin unlock and then you get 10 chances at the pin and there is apparently no way to get back to the pattern unlock. I'll reserve comment on whether having the auto factory reset enabled as the default is a good idea or not.
Just as an additional note, I just checked and it is not possible to unlock the device from the android device manager when it has a pattern lock or pin lock screen set
This just happened to me after the tenth try and fail it wiped the whole internal and external cards and went in to boot loop I had to reflash the rom best thing to do is turn off the phone boot to safestrap and restore a back if you go through with the 10 tries at least pull your memory card before the 10th try
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Free mobile app
It looks like a good answer I found was that if you load up the play store on a browser on a PC, there is an app you can install that will unlock your device. Pretty smart (though not cheap [edit: actually pretty cheap, just not free]). I did need the nav but if I had known of this app, I probably would just have asked directions. I definitely should have pulled the sd card anyway.
Here is the link to the app. There is also a free version which does less. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.thomascannon.screenlockbypass.pro

Galaxy S8 is soft locked (not rooted)

Ok this is going to be a nightmare to explain, my brother has an S8 on Sprint, his battery was low and turn on max power settings and enabled some sort of restricted app usage setting or something to that extent, after locking his phone he went to unlock it (he has a password lock) the keyboard to type won't pop up I'm guessing because he switched his default to Gboard, ok this is where it gets screwy and yes he managed to mess up this bad, I did some googling and realized Samsung find my mobile has an unlock screen option if you sign into it with your Samsung account on your phone, so I gave him my phone and he tried to sign in here forgot his password because he used a randomly generated password with lastpass, ok I download LastPass it won't let me in I'm not a recognized device, I think try the desktop site I get not the right location because he's not living where he originally set it up at, so I thought reset your Samsung account password and send it to your Gmail he can't get into his Gmail because again he used a randomly generated password with LastPass and he can't get into LastPass, id factory reset with Stock Recovery but FRP will kick in and he doesn't know the password.
Look I've done my fair share of rooting and roming and installing stuff I shouldn't have, but I've never messed up this bad, it's beyond what I can think of though, I've tried everything I can think of but any help would be appreciated thank you in advance
I've contacted Samsung support and tried explaining everything but they are just f***ing worthless, they kept thinking I wanted to reboot the phone when I was asking if battery saver turned off when the battery was full
Should also say he took the Oreo update whenever it dropped for the S8

stolen S7 Edge was found, but is now locked - what to do?

My girlfriends S7 Edge was stolen in France and unbelievably she was contacted through the Embassy that it had been found!!! I couldn't believe it especially because the police was more than rude and didn't care at all at first.
Anyway, after an ordeal to get it back by mail without speaking french ourselves it is now here without the case. Plugging it in it came up in download mode. Rebooting brought the lockscreen back, but her pattern doesn't work and it's in French. However, there were still messages on the lockscreen, so I believe it may not have been wiped. But no idea why it is in french now and why the lock pattern doesn't work.
Apparently one can set a temporary password through device manager, but problem 1 both wifi as well as mobile data are disabled - I can't get to it through device manager. Problem 2 I can pull down quick settings, but cannot activate either wifi nor data. Problem 3 I thought you can always get to the backup PIN entering a few wrong pattern, but that doesn't work either - only the delays increase.
There is no recovery installed or root. I may have enabled debug mode and read I could delete pattern.key via adb, however am not there right now.
Any other ideas? I wonder who changed the phone to french and download mode. Could be the police (because they found GF and there was no name on the phone) or the thief. The SIM was missing, if the thief threw away the SIM the police must have accessed the phone.
Any other ideas? I absolutely don't want to go wipe just yet, but without the phone connecting to either wifi or data there is no hope through google. We can call it with the replacement SIM.
Any way to get out of the pattern and to enter the PIN? Doesn't a PIN always have to be set when a pattern is set?
Would adb deleting of the pattern file actually work?
Google how to bypass passwords you'll find help in d results
Yeah, I did - had to do this recently restoring a TWRP backup when my pattern suddenly didn't work any more - even though I used the same pattern on the older version and thought I deleted everything. It must have stored this stuff outside the data, system or boot partitions.... weird.
Anyway unfortunately it looks like the thief got access and deleted everything, that's why it's in french. So the only way for the police to identify the owner must have been the IMEI - there is nothing left but creepy selfies of the thief - tons of them.

[New][July-16-2020]Unlocking bootloader on VZW Pixel 1 and XL

AS OF JUL 19 THIS HAS STOPPED WORKING
I apologize if you did not get your bootloader unlocking!
At the moment, there is no information if the classic exploit will return, if it has worked for you, please make a post about it on this thread!
We will go back to work to ensure pixels will get unlocked. I do not know how long it may take, it could be a few days, a few months or a few years. For this reason I'd respectfully ask you for no ETAs on the development on the exploit.
I may keep this thread open if people are willing to crack on something or need help.
Thanks for understanding.
----
I wanted to make a new thread to clean things up as the correct answer is buried so far into the VZW thread and I don't believe people have time to dig down that far to do something so simple.
Please give @RaspberryPiBen a thanks by going to his quote for finalizing my rant and making it into doable steps.
The work by the community is absolutely incredible.
RaspberryPiBen said:
Here is what worked for me:
Prerequisites:
No SIM card in the phone
ADB and Platform Tools installed on a computer (https://www.xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linux/)
The latest OTA image downloaded to the computer (https://developers.google.com/android/ota#sailfish for the Pixel or https://developers.google.com/android/ota#marlin for the Pixel XL)
The phone connected to the computer with USB
Learn how to use ADB and Fastboot on your computer as it can differ.
Steps:
1. On the phone, open Settings>System>Reset Options and factory reset the phone. It should say "Restarting" or something similar.
2. When the screen goes black, press and hold the Volume Down key until you get into the Bootloader mode. Use the volume keys to navigate to "Recovery Mode" and select it with the power button.
3. Hold the Volume Down key for about a minute (while it resets) until you see an android lying down.
4. Hold the Power button then press the Volume Up button once. It should give you a menu.
5. Use the volume and power buttons to select "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" and confirm the reset.
6. Once it finishes, select an option that is something like "Sideload OTA"
7. Go to your computer and type in 'adb sideload sailfish-ota-qp1a.191005.007.a3-394b5899.zip' (without quotes) for the Pixel or 'adb sideload marlin-ota-qp1a.191005.007.a3-23002a57.zip' for the Pixel XL OR you may drag the zip file into the command prompt after typing "adb sideload", either way it should look similar.
8. Factory reset again from recovery mode
9. Reboot to system
10. While it just shows the G, press the power button until the phone restarts
11. Once it boots up, skip all of the steps but disable the options for sending information to Google.
12. Enable Developer Options by tapping "Build Number" seven times
13. In Developer Options, enable USB Debugging
14. On your computer, run 'adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.android.phone'
15. Reboot twice
16. Connect to WiFi
17. Open google.com in Chrome
18. Check Developer Options to see if you can enable OEM unlocking
19. If you can't, swipe away Settings from the Recents menu and go back to Chrome
20. In Chrome, open a bunch of websites. After opening each one, check the OEM Unlocking option again and close Settings afterward.
21. Once you can enable it, do so! Now you can unlock the bootloader.
Unlocking the bootloader:
-Reboot and press the Volume Down key when the screen goes black
-On the computer, type 'fastboot flashing unlock'
You just unlocked the bootloader!

Hey guys. After 5 months of my purchase I finally achieved bootloader unlocking. Basically I am a user that has never updated to latest, I don't know if it makes it a variable if you're already on latest and try this. (I was coming from Sept 2019). So what I did was factory reset from the system menus. Then as soon as the screen went black, I did bootloader combos and straight to recovery. I factory resetted as prep, flashed DECEMBER patch, then after that finished, factory resetted again. Essentially, I followed the classic ADB exploit that has "never worked since Sept-Oct 2019" And yes I do have the VZW_001 CID and "_VZ" in GL website. Know when yours is bootlooping as soon as you reboot it, just hard reboot so it boots up quicker, I don't know what it does for it to take so long. Anyways when you get in, just setup like we'd always do, NO google account, turn off all setting requests (Data location, wallpapers, etc). Then as soon as I got in, I turned on debugging, ran the classic adb pm command, rebooted TWO times. This means as soon as I booted, i swiped to go to home, then rebooted a second time. As soon as I did that, I loaded up my wifi connection, I don't know if it matters but Im using the 5G wifi, then I load up google.com. Immediately, I already notice something strange. Google.com doesn't have a "valid SSL certificate" I thought it was weird, so I went to google.com on my PC and look certified SSL. As I knew that was weird, I was clicking around and I thought that was enough. so I went to the dev menu. OEM lock still grayed out. I went back to chrome and simply typed in "youtube" Let it load up. Then I clicked on the site. I went back to the dev menu. Still grayed out. I exited settings app and relaunched it to the dev menu. OEM unlock lit up in flying colors. I could not believe it. I instantly ticked it with 0 hesitation and rebooted immediately to the bootloader. The unlock command worked! I am now unlocked sailfish! I thank the community so much for all the hard work. I, only motivated the community to their potential. Thank you again!
Generally there are some kinds of factors.
Users have stated before if you OTA'd from menus to Latest patch, it would say "October", even though it's really december. This may make the unlocking procedure impossible. I have also not seen any marlin users report back to me yet about this method. You can still try flashing from googles site if you're already on "October = Dec".
Enjoy guys. We proved WE own these phones, and not VZW.

I Can Confirm it works on Sailfish... unlock my phone on the day its discovered (July 15 ).

Tried that and still no luck.
Oh well, I'll probably keep trying tomorrow or something, not a huge fuss as I've since bought a new phone, but would've been nice to play around with custom ROMs on this pixel.
I went to check the IMEI number for my phone but it says "Unknown" in the settings now? Not sure if that contributes to it

Your IMEI is either unknown due to uninstalling android.phone, or actual corrupted/blacklisted EFS. If true, nothing can be done about that.
When you reset the device, did you flash December Android 10, and in the setup process, disable all the requests (data location, wallpapers, etc).
Is there a sim card in the phone?
Cheers.

This was literally my 4th time trying. I bought my phone off eBay so I'm honestly not sure if it's a verizon variant. I tried a checking my IMEI on the Verizon and Google website, neither of them actually indicate that it's a Verizon phone. But if it's a Google phone I expected to be able to unlock my bootloader already... idk Maybe it came from Canada or somewhere else like the UK.

If you can gather enough evidence that your device is a Google store device, you can go here.
To get a 50% chance of displaying actual correct device, you can download Simple CID Getter on the Play store.
Cheers. Let me know how it goes.
