cloning old wm5 firmware - Windows Mobile

Hello,
I do not know if I posted in the right place but I need urgent help. I have lots old terminals Motorola HC700 (F4707A) that were downgraded from WM5 to WM2003SE. Now have to put again WM5 but I don't have that old firmware.
I have another two terminals with original WM5 on them. Is there any possibility to extract the firmware completely or clone it and put it on those with WM2003. Or can anyone help me with firmware for this type of terminal.
If you can clone or extract the firmware what tools i can use or can someone explain how do this. It is urgent. Thank you.

Start searching here (register your account):
http://www.modaco.com/forum/651-windows-mobile-archive/
or maybe here:
http://www.modaco.com/forum/546-motorola/
Eventually, try Google, and search for wm5 roms for [name of the phone]

It's not a phone it's a scanning terminal. It's an old terminal and i can't find anything about it.
I just want to copy SO (firmware) from wm5 good terminal and put on WM2003 bad terminal.
Where i can find info how to do this ?
Thank you

Yaho0o, WM5 rom flashed to device ... how to explain .... is not only the set of files. They are flashed to device with fixed location in memory and the info about this location is wiped away while flashing.... So you can not just copy the firmware from a device - half of the files visible in \Windows folder of the device via file manager are just the labels.
Here no-one will help you. The best way - try to contact Moto support at motorolasolutions.com - maybe they have the firmware for your discounted barcode scanners.

do anyone found asolution ???

I need RS-x-xx.bin file. Please share.

Hi
I need to fix my broken XDA. I will try to write the RADIO DUMP file RS-x-xx.bin directly into the flash memory. Just because I can;t find another device to read the file from it I ask all friends in the forum to help me.
This file can be obtained using XDA manipulator with a serial cable ( usb not work ) with the device in the bootstrap mode and by pressing CTRL+R.
This will dump all radio flash memory to a file.
Hope the format will be the same as the one in the flash memory is.
If the operation will fail, I will let you know. If succes, I will ofer my services to repair all devices from 1% error RSU which cannot be fixed trough the steps descibed in the forum.
Thanks in advance.
Silviu C.
Me too
Could somebody please help us here?
Nah, I don't know...
I have such a file, but I'm reluctant to give it to you. Here's why:
The radio ROM contains the software needed to make the GSM work. It also contains what is called 'calibration data'. More and more radios, such as the one in the XDA, have no more tiny knobs to twist on the inside. Instead, all the tuning is done in the factory, and the data on where these virtual knobs should be set is stored in a special spot in the ROM.
The update files that come with the Programme B upgrade package only contain certain regions of the ROM that need to be written to in order for the device to be upgraded. The format of these files is understood (ask Itsme or W4XY for help if needed), and IMHO these files are a much better starting point than a straight 4MB dump of all ROM. Whatever sorry state the unit may be in with this whole 1% business, restoring the entire ROM from another unit is a sure way to make certain the unit can never be repaired.
Peter Poelman: Thanks for the kind reply.
I understand your point, but could you please give us some idea how to solve our problems with this 1% business. As you might have noticed that we have tried all posible options/ suggestions there is in this forum.
. In my case, the GSM ROM is broken after I accidentally left the GSM 1900 option checked on after upgrading to TMobile RUUv2.04b_CEv4.01.00wwe_VS_Ozone_Test_(Integrate_Radio_6.24.01).
Your suggestions would be highly appreciated....

Copy files from ROM ?

Hi,
I'm trying to get around the problem of the quiet sound with the AT&T rom, I have another XDA running the latest T-Mo rom and was hoping to mess around with some dll's from the TMo rom to see if I could sort the problem, but the drivers used for the sound are protected somehow in the rom, so it won't let me copy them to my SD card or PC (which means I can't try it on the AT&T rom)
Is there any way of copying these files out ? and then into the AT&T rom ??
Cheers
Neil
see dumprom
No good for me then, I only have Windows Machines here..
Ok, I have thought of a possible work around, but I need someone with the T-Mobile WM2003 Rom (Pref 4.01.16) & Linux/Unix to copy the wavedev.dll & waveapi.dll from the \Windows folder and send them to me so it can try it out..
I'm sure its not only me that this "feature" annoys. it makes Tomtom especially useless on the voice prompt side of things.
Cheers
Neil
?? I don't see the problem, dumprom is a windows tool.
in case you had not found it yet, I added the link to the binary to the wiki page.
Ah right, excellent.
Sorry I assumed it was the same as the makerom tool which states its unix/linux.
-=edit=- I just tried the link on the dumprom wiki page, and get the dreaded 404 error
Thanks
Neil
oeps. a common wiki error, I forgot to '~'-escape the '~' in the url.
Thanks mate, it seems to be working now
I'll have a play about with it when I get home.
Cheers
Neil
Back again
The dumprom app crashes (tried on two machines) when I try to execute it. I have tried it with various command line configuations but the little windows xp error box pops up saying that the program must be closed
dumprom crash
Hi Swifty
Yeah I got this too - until I realised that I was the problem. I was omitting the myrom.nb1 filename (or whatever you have called yours) from the command line! D'Oh! What is your exact command line that you use?
it is known to be buggy and crash on certain roms.
I am working on an improved version in perl - dumpxip.pl
but it does not extract files stored as 'xip' yet.
Silly me I done the same thing as you and omitted the rom file.. thanks
I have now extracted the AT&T and TMobile roms and compared the files, the AT&T's wavedev.dll is larger in size, I think this is where the modifications were made.. but I can't rebuild the TMo version into the AT&T rom because I don't use linux
Hopefully someone can help me out and we will finally have a perfect WM2003 Rom -=edit=- IF it works
Cheers
Neil
Carefull!
i fearbthat just swapping in the new dll may not help... it may have other dependancies that also need changing. The interface / entry points may also have changed and you may need a whole slew of other stuff and some other registry settings too. But pls go ahead and try... let us know!

Neil,
Use CYGWIN it's an excellent "Linux running as a command line in Windows" environment. It's easy to install, start and run commands. It comes up as a DOS box-like interface and Voila! You have Linux, stable, clean and fast, including the ability to build ROMs.

wm2003 4.01.12 deleted my files?

after installed it on my t-mobile mda n' passed several difficult trouble on radiostack, this os such a great thing that i expect to figure on my pda. but, later i realized that the os didn't fit my expectation when its began to erase my files on the sdcard 'misteriously'.
a thing that make me become so so bad, the size of files doesn't match with the used area on the card, what kind of trouble is this? they erased my files but the space didn't change..
is there any idea to get my files back before i'm goin' to format it?
how to avoid it in the future?
thx for read it..
The only way to avoid it is to write protect the memory card by moving the slider switch to lock position.
slider switch...
thank's for ur answer, it migth be useful, but can you point the position of the slider? whether it's.on the pda or on memory? l'm using visipro mmc 256mb, n' i don't see any slider on lt.
thx.

Sorry, I forgot to advise you to install Registry Editor Program on your PPC first. (e.g. PHM Reg edit)
hi,
it's quite good, i alo thought that but i had installed "regeditce" prog so the file doesn't associate .
I'd installed the PHM as u mentioned above and ran the SD_fix but it didn't react (install or import..ect), it just opened the PHM program. Hence, i dont know whether it's imported to the registry or not now i'm waiting and hope the problem will be solved.
Thank you all
Unfortunately, it doesn't work well, after running that file, i installed two programs on storage card (HandMap and E-dictionary). Then I tried to soft reset and my MMc card was erased. oh, what can i do now ?

Where is the SD_fix.reg file
Hi,
How can I get the SD_fix.reg file? Thanks
hi,
the file is above
I think that the .reg file is exported form a key in REGISTRY, but when i run it, it isn't imported to the defined key exactly so the card is still erased
Help me, thanks 'coz i like the 4.01.16 of T-Mobile
hi all,
Let use "Resco registry" to import SD_fix to Registry. It's okay now

The file *. bif is responsible for home-tomtom tell what our ID device and what kind of device we have. I have rewritten this file by saying that my device is a tomtom-go, and I have access to everything except mapshare because it generates an error between my account and ID device. I therefore believe that the key might be there.

Yes, but my device is a htc universal, therefore does not generate the same file bif that generates a htc diamond. That's why I need to file bif generated htc diamond after run tt7. I try to deceive tomtom home with this procedure.
So, someone solidarity to load this file in this post, please.
Thank you.
PD. I need the file UserPatch.dat after run tt7 too.

I need those files for study.

RE Info
Hi,
You do not need the file bif of diamond if tt7 install on the memory card you'll see that you create the file ttnavigator.bif that is unique to each device.
Each file .Bif has a deviceunique id differently depending on the ppc which uses.
Sorry for ma bad english, I hope you have understood what I wanted to explain.

On a dutch forum there's someone that has mapshare working on his HTC Universal.
They posted a list of compatible devices and also a tutorial how to connect with mapshare. Maybe is that tutorial working for you?
Do you want me to post it??

What is the link for this forum or post?
It is in dutch so maybe you can't read it. It is located here:
http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/view_message/30308552
For english people i converted it to english.
1. Open TomTom Navigator 7 on your PDA
2. Go to Map corrections -> Correction preferences and select all but "corrections reported by some.
3. Close TomTom Navigator on your PDA and TomTom Home on your computer
4. Move the map navigator that's on the PDA (In the my device folder, i think) to program files.
Now it is program files\navigator
5. Remove the following files out of all your folders: "SeverLineIdndex.dat" "ServerNameIndex.dat"
They weren't there on my PDA
6. Remove ttnavigator.bif from your sd-card
7. COnnect your PDA to your computer and make an activesync-connection
8. Start TomTom Home 2.3
9. Connect to your TomTom-account
10. TomTom Home gives you 2 options. Connect to your Pda or Sd-card. Choose Sd-card.
11. When you get an error meessage klick on back.
12. Now you can see your mapshare updates!
It should work with the following devices:
IPAQHW65
IPAQHW67
IPAQHW69
IPAQRX57
IPAQRX59
IPAQRX42
IPAQRX45
ARTE10000
HTC-ARTEMIS
TRIN100
HTC-TRINITY
ATHE100
HTC-ATHENA
KAIS10000
HTC-KAISER
POLA10000
HTC-POLARIS
SEDN10000

PHAR10000

HTC-OMNI
WING20000
HTC-WINGS
DIAM10000
HTC-DIAMOND
RAPH10000
HTC-RAPHAEL
PLAT10000
HTC-PLATINUM
But this is only a solution for this devices. I hope someone can get a solution for all devices. I hope you can succeed with the .bif file!
Why do you need these files?
If it is in support of somthing relates to a WAREZ project then you are in the wrong site my friend.

In need o a little assistence.

Hello,
It's already a long time ago since i needed a Dutch ROM for the HP 6xx series, i can't ind this anywhere but now i finally have a Dutch device.
so now i heard something about ROM Dumping, i also understood that this has something to do with pdocread.
but as the rookie ( maybe even ''noob'' ) that i am, i want to ask the following question, how do i dump my dutch rom, what programs do i have to use or that, and is installing a Dutch rom the same thing as flashing it to your device? or do i have to convert files to .dio format?
all help is welcome!
post scriptum,
i got the 614 in every language available right now, so if you do me the favour for guiding me through this dumping, ill upload all the ROMS of any language you want, i got almost every language.
sincerley, alex
ok, i used DUMP TOOLS now and in the ''manual''of dump tools
it says i have to copy dump_gene_os_extrom.exe
to my device, i did this.
it also said that i needed a minimum of 70MB.
after like 5 minutes the device copied data to the storage card
im using a 1 gb micro SD of kingston.
now, it already copied 716mb on the SD card and growing.
i cant imagine a rom any bigger then like 120MB.
i tried alot of things so could someone please help me?
im willing to donate if anybody wants money for their time, no problem.
you are not using the correct dump tool, there is specific dump tool for 61x here. You need to connect to computer with activesync to use it

Thank you very much for this, it really helped me, i retreived the following files now from my device :
- diskimage_Ver.nb0
- part2.nb0.payload
- part2.nb0.payload.part1
- part02.raw
the files standing above, are the files that where retreived from my Dutch hp 614, now i want this rom, on my other 614 that ain't Dutch.
i already tried to rename the diskimage_Ver.nb0 to > flash.dio, then flashed that file into my 614, after that whas done it got stuck at the startup screen.
so is anybody prepared to help me out and tell me how i can get it to work.
P.S. for the ones that are going to link me to the thread where someone links to a Dutch ROM, that one doesnt work, it doesnt go any further then the start up screen.
if there's people that want money for their help thats absolutely no problem.
i just want my pda restored and dutch.
thank you in advance.
that is weird...it should work
anyway can you flash custom rom like my 6.5 or sergiorus 6.1 without problem?
also post your result from executing this command when your device is running a working rom:
pdocread -l
and
pdocread -t
