Hi all,
My Defy green lens is on Quarx CM10 2013-03-18 ROM, I have an issue when I want to restore a nandroid backup.
CWM displays "error while restoring /sdcard/.android_secure" at the end of the process.
I have tried a lot of things to get rid of this but no luck :
- I tried to search on XDA forums, no luck. No appropriate answers...
- I googled it, no luck.
- when I try to do a "utimate full wipe", then flash again CM10, restore my data and make an nandroid backup, then, finally, when I want to restore my nandroid, it says "error while restoring /sdcard/.android_secure"
- I tried to format my sdcard, no luck after a new try of backup / restore.
- I tried to move all my app on the internal memory instead of the sdcard, then tried to do a new nandroid backup. Then again, I have the same message "error while restoring /sdcard/.android_secure".
I know there is more recent builds but I still use 2013-03-18 because, IMO, it's the last stable one.
If I do the same with CM7 ROM, I haven't this issue about android_secure !
Any ideas ?

I have never been able to restore .android_secure with any CWM version. I extract the backup into the folder.

So, I just have to restore my Nandroid backup, ignore the error message, reboot and then, once booted on Android, extract android_secure from backup to sdcard android_secure folder ? That's all ? It works like this for you ?

Yes, this works for me (And reboot after extraction). Make sure system and data are restored properly though.
error restoring .android_secure
Hi I understand this thread maybe dead but I recently restored a nandroid from a 4.1.2 ROM and .android_secure had an error, I have read the above posts about rebooting (ignoring the error message) but when I look in sdcard I already have a folder called .android_secure and on the extsdcard I also have a folder called .android_secure but this one is empty, the one on the sdcard has data on it.
Therefore, I have some apps on the phone as I should have, and others are simply not there or are highlighted as not being installed.
From the above posts you talk about taking the backup nandroid and finding '.android_secure folder' and placing it onto the sdcard under .android_secure folder name, but given I already have a folder and data there do I delete the one already there or is this simply the same info being overwritten?
I have also tried to install missing apps/data via TB but this freezes or at least it doesn't process the install.
I figured if I sorted out the .android_secure this moght allow the missing apps/data to be installed from a reboot, is this anyway right?
Also, I do believe the apps that had been moved to the extsdcard are the apps that I'm having issues with, but given I have a TB backup then what issues would be that prevents them from being installed from the TB backup aswell (or are they separate issues), as I said they stall/freeze on install from TB.
All I want it my apps/data back, I have the info on the phone for sure, just how to execute it that it isn't painfully slow or repetitive for me to do, gaining the apps/daa back.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

hello I got same problem.
on my account i find what cause the error
it was on the my sdcard which has no more space for .android_secure files
so i've freed up my sdcard so a 700 mb .android_secure files would fit
Hi everyone,
I have a situation here with my Nexus 4. I am running CWM Recovery 6.0.4.3 and AOKP nightly builds. I was using Stock ROM before AOKP. That time, before I upgraded I was trying to make a nandroid backup. I had around 7GB free space before performing the backup. Eventually the backup went wrong, it said "Error while backing up /data". I don't know what to do so I just reboot and re-run the backup process, but it still gave me the same error. I then boot into my phone and realized something... my free memory space has lessened to around 2GB only! I then decided not to make the backup and just flash my ROM to AOKP. I thought this will clear the problem, but it's not.
So, my question is, how to clear this used space? I checked in the nandroid backup folder and found absolutely nothing there, so it must be somewhere else... Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance

Just as you said, it must be somewhere. Check other folders or even the rood of the virtual SD card. If you still don't find anything you may have to factory reset the device and wipe the SD card partition. Before you jump the gun though, make sure (assuming you're using windows as your PC OS, show hidden folders.
Did you check of have a Clockworkmod folder? Each time you create a backup, it creates a new folder with a new time stamp.
Use a file manager to delete the unnecessary or aborted backups. The backup folder should be visible with having to use an app such as Root Explorer.
Hello
I made a full backup with philz and transferred it to my pc. Tried to delete the backup folder from my internal sd card but can't. Get this message:
Cannot delete backup: the storage is write-protected. Remove the write-protection and try again.
BTW, I'm on stock kk 4.4.2
Thanks for your help
By default, CWM and Philz protect the nandroid data from being deleted since they utilize an incremental backup scheme rather than the older image file setup. For example, let's say you have three nandroid backups: A, B, and C. If the nandroid data wasn't write protected and you delete backup A, you would screw up ALL your nandroid backups. A is the master backup. When the recovery makes backup B, it only backs up the changes made between A and B. If you then made backup C, it would back up the changes between A AND B, and C. Since the possibility of screwing up all your backups by deleting the oldest is a major problem, CWM and Philz write protect the storage.
Go into Philz, then enter the backups menu. Delete the existing backups using its delete function, then select "free unused storage data" to recover the space. After doing that, switch to TWRP 2.8.6.0, as it doesn't make incremental backups and thus doesn't write protect the storage space. Also, unlike CWM and Philz, you can place the backups on your MicroSD card..
Done....thanks very much Strephon
hi, i have the same problem and it work, thanks!
Guys This is a noob question but please help me with this
After Rooting my phone i backed up my apps with Titanium Backup with Apps + Data
then later i was planning to install a new ROM so i even backed up my ROM using Philz Touch Recovery with Data+System+Cache+Boot.
After trying several ROMS one of it asked for clearing the Internal Storage (Media Storage) and i lost all my photos and stuff.
Currently after returning to my Stock ROM and flashing Titanium Backup apps back i cant find My Audio Manager (Hiding App) data.
On Trying to remember i think that the app location was set to sd card.
I want to recover my Audio Manager Apps Data because it was really Important
I currently have a full backup of my stock ROM which totals abut 8.56 Gb is there any way to just get the data back.
It was reallly IMPORANT Please Help.
Titanium backup folder is set to the internal storage by default. Unless you changed that.
When restoring a backup there it should ask you what you want to restore. Data, system, boot, efs, etc.
Just select data. But this will restore all backed up data from your backup.
I know the stock samsung rom is about 3.5 GB, the rest is data. So you will have 5 GB of data that might need restoring.
hi folks,
i have an i9505 running stock rooted 4.4.2. i noticed that under device storage it is telling me that of the 9.95gb available internal memory, only about half is free. it says "applications" is using about 3gb. however all the files on the internal storage only add up to about 800mb. i have used es file explorer's sd card analyzer to look at all the files on the internal storage, and it confirms only 800mb or so is there. where is the 4gb or so other data?
w.
You're rooted. Do you have a custom recovery installed?
yes i have CWM installed. i just used it to wipe the cache partition and davlik cache. didn't make any difference.
You made nandroid backups however, right? Two things you need to know.
1. CWM by default protects the internal storage where nandroid backups are stored. You need to delete the backups and delete protected storage to get the space back.
2. CWM is no longer supported. Switch to TWRP as certain ROMs will not install with CWM. In addition, TWRP does not protect the storage like CWM, and it allows nandroid backups to be stored on the MicroSD.
yes i have several CWM full backups but they are on the ext SD card. no backups on the internal memory. what is the protected storage you're referring to? CWM is supported for a stock kit kat 4.4.2 rom isn't it?
In CWM the location where the nandroid backups are made is on the internal storage, and is protected from being modified by the user outside of the recovery. This is because of how CWM makes backups. The default backup format is to take incremental backups. The space is allocated so that the end user cannot randomly delete backups outside of the recovery, because in an incremental backup only the changes between the last backup and the current ROM state are backed up. Deleting a backup between the earliest and latest backups screws up all backups following the deleted date. It is possible to change the way CWM does backups, but most end users don't dig deeply enough into the recovery to find these things out.
CWM's protected storage space is on the internal storage, and it is the biggest reason your internal storage isn't reading the correct amount. You need to head into the backup menu and free all unused storage to get that storage back. Once you do that, you really want to install TWRP, because it avoids this problem altogether.
